Lmao Very interesting tale. Full cablegate btw here: http://thestreetjournal.org/2011/09/wikileaks-ibb%E2%80%99s-aide-called-atiku-tinubu-opc-al-qaeda-to-get-us-support/#more-1463 |

This one was given to me by a friend. Evidently it is a question that was actually asked at an interview. I was able to solve it without looking up the answer (good), but I took too long (bad). Given a sequence of integers a_1, a_2,. . . , a_N derive a quadratic time algorithm (i.e. O(N^2) ) for finding all unique triples (a_i, a_j ,a_k) such that a_i+a_j+a_k=0. Hints: 1) It might help to think of this problem in two steps: first write an algorithm to find all pairs of numbers such that a_i + a_j=m (for a fixed integer m). 2) You may want to sort the list first (One thing to observe is that since you can sort a list in O(Nlog(N)) time, and your budget is O(N^2), you can sort once without exceeding your budget. So you may as well assume that the list is sorted.) 3) You can get an O(N^2 log(N)) algorithm in a fairly straightforward way. Question is, how do you get down to N^2? If you can get this far you are nearly there. . . just need to find the bottleneck and eliminate it. Again, you don't really need to write code for this. Pseudo-code is fine. Or even better, explain in words how to do it. |

This one was given to me today. Unlike the first problem, I wasn't able to solve this w/o googling (I found a similar problem online somewhere, then saw the trick behind it and used it to solve this)Here it is: There are 15 pennies on a table, 4 of them are heads up, 11 tails up. You are blindfolded. Divide the 15 pennies into two separate piles by flipping as many as you wish and dividing them how ever you wish such that both piles have the same number of heads. No cheating. |
Both have really bright futures. PHP has most of the mindshare for web development. I don't really see Rails taking that away. Java won't be going anywhere either. As far as "brightest" goes, I dunno. Both are good choices for their respective domains. |
Europeans, Chinese, Africans, all the same. They'll plunder you as much as you will let them. Just don't be in a position where you have to rely on someone else's kindness not to get screwed over, imo. |

Ado Ekiti, Sep 06, 2011 (Daily Champion/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) A Member of House of Representatives, Hon Ife Arowosoge has said, the creation of Local Governments should be the business of the States and not that of the Federal Government as obtainable in Nigeria. This belief, he said, spurred him into lending his support to Governor Kayode Fayemi's moves to create of more Local Government Development authorities in the State to ease governance and spreading of public untilities across the State. Arowosoge, who represents Ise/Ikere/Ekiti Southwest Federal Constituency at the Lower Chambers of the National Assembly opined that it was a lopsidedness , the constitutional impediment that prevented the States from creating the Council Areas without Federal Government interference . The Federal Lawmaker made the statements at St. Patrick's Catholic Church , Ilawe Ekiti in Ekiti Southwest Local Government Area of the State at the weekend during the thanksgiving ceremony to mark his victory at the 2011 April poll and flagging off of empowerment programmes for indigent citizens of his constituency. At the occasion, he donated some computer sets to secondary schools to enhance computer literacy and learning , as well as cash donations to some traders to support their businesses. The rep member , who considered the step taken by Fayemi as capable of fasttracking the development strategy of the present administration, posited that members of the National Assembly from the State will ensure that it receives the nod of the national Assembly when the Governor takes the move to the Federal parliaments for ratification. He maintained that the 1999 constitution as amended made the Local Governments in Nigeria to be under the existing states and that the creation of such Local Governments should not have been taken away from the purview of the controlling states. The Federal Lawmaker said, "The only way the country can grow is by creating more Local Governments. It will fasttrack development being the closest to the people. Let us take Lagos for example, there were 20 Local Governments before the former Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu created more Development Areas to make it 57. "If you get to Lagos today, you will know that development is moving fast and it is in all the nooks crannies of Lagos State and this was made possible because of the Development Areas that were created by the government". The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Adewale Omirin, who said the Lawmakers are still awaiting the bill for the creation of the LGDAs, assured that the House will give it an expeditious passage. Omirin, who represents Gbonyin Constituency clarified that allocation to each of the Local Government will be shared between the existing Local Governments and the newly created LGDAs. http://www.menafn.com/qn_news_story.asp?storyid={9085e565-8536-4666-9bbe-0e64bfa86444} |
Has nothing to with the Chinese. Any businessman will try to keep his costs as low as possible. Including dumping waste water rather than treating it. I'd probably do the same myself if I were a businessman. . . but there are laws and heavy fines in this country which prevent me for doing so. Rather than relying on morality, we need to rely on the law. |
I love seeing economic development in the SW. But the Ogun State government will need to step in and ensure that the businesses do not dispose of their waste in a way that harms the community. This Chinese firm needs to pay cash to have its waste properly disposed of. |
Written by Kunle Awosiyan Wednesday, 07 September 2011 Residents of Abule-Oko,Magboro, a community in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State are at loggerheads with a Chinese company located in the area for channelling its waste water to the village. Some of the residents had fled their homes because of the wastewater, which had since taken over the community while many had lost their property to the resultant flood from the waste water. According to the Chairman of Oke-Ayo Community, an adjacent neighbourhood to Abule-Oko, Alhaji Lateef Balogun, the Chinese company opens up a wastewater channel into the community, thereby causing serious flooding in the area. He said that the residents had visited the Chinese company to protest the anomaly but that the company had refused to attend to their plight, rather, “the flood has continued to increase.” Balogun lamented the rate at which the Chinese company, which had no particular name at present, had been degrading the environment while the state government had failed to take action against it. “It is true that we want foreign investors, but it should not be to the detriment of our people, who cannot sleep in their homes again because of the wastewater,” he said. Balogun, however urged the government to call the company to order so that the residents would not storm the premises to stop its operation. Speaking to Community News, one of the affected residents, who simply identified himself as Mr Joseph, said he had since moved out of his house due to the flood caused by the Chinese company. He explained that the recent downpour in the area did not affect his house but was astonished with the wastewater that suddenly moved into his house in the midnight from the Chinese company. “This company is indifferent to our plight. It opens up a channel to the community without creating any drainage channel. This is unfair,” he said. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/community-news/27791-abule-oko-residents-battle-chinese-firm-over-used-water |
Second lowest HIV/AIDS rate in Nigeria, the longest life expectancy of any state in Nigeria. No doubt things will only improve under Fayemi's capable leadership. |
Written by Sam Nwaoko,Ado-Ekiti Wednesday, 07 September 2011 The Ekiti State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (SACA) has announced that 5 million US dollars (about N750 million) has been earmarked to prosecute the second phase of the World Bank-financed HIV/AIDS Programme Development Project (HPDP) in Ekiti State. The Ekiti SACA project cordinator, Dr Charles Doherty, who made the announcement while speaking at the kick-off of the second phase of the HPDP in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday, also announced that the programme would be kicked off tomorrow by the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi. According to Doherty, about 488 persons living with HIV/AIDS in Ekiti State were currently receiving anti-retroviral treatment (ART), adding that the percentage of people living with HIV/AIDS in the state was 1.4 per cent of the total population. He said the phase two of the HPDP four-year action programme would officially commence in the state on Thursday. He said 72 screening centres were available in parts of the state at the University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti; Specialists’ Hospital, Ikole Ekiti; Federal Medical Centre, Ido Ekiti and St. Gregory Hospital, Ado Ekiti. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/27833-ekiti-saca-earmarks-n750m-to-prosecute-hpdp |
Interesting. Hmm, I like Soludo, strongly dislike Sanusi. I wonder how much value we should place on Sanusi's words. (not saying that they should be discarded, just not sure of the value.) |
