Some statesmen will live for hundreds of years after their deaths in the hearts and minds of the people. Abraham Lincoln of the US, Winston Churchill of the UK, Kemal Ataturk of Turkey and Mahatma Gandhi of India are such men. Obafemi Awolowo is another cool

Southern Kaduna people in Kaduna State believe that the fact that their son, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa is governor does not mean political freedom for them yet, unless a state is created for them.

Speaking in an interview with NOAH EBIJE in Kaduna, the new president of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU), Dr. Ephraim Awolowo Goje, says that their ultimate political desire is to have a state carved out of the present Kaduna State for the people of the southern region. Excerpts:

Friday, July 15, 2011

Creation of Gurara State
The issue of Gurara State is a thing that we have set out to achieve, and there is no going back. We are asking for it, and by the grace of God, we will get it. Our memorandum was one of the best so far submitted to the National Assembly. We conducted a referendum, we have gotten a capital and we have done the demarcation, taken our statistics and our resources. So Gurara State is a dream that every Southern Kaduna man is looking forward to. As for the issue of governorship, yes, as long as we are together, Southern Kaduna or Northern Kaduna, we still have the right to produce a governorship candidate. We are all stakeholders in the affairs of this state. It is our turn, and that is why we asked for it, and God in his mercy, gave it to us for the support of the people of the whole state. Yakowa is a man of the people and many people voted for him, North and South of the state. So he is not only a governor of Southern Kaduna, he is a governor of everybody in Kaduna State. He is just from our own extraction, but certainly we will all work together to ensure that he succeeds.

Even with your son as governor
The issue of Yakowa being the governor does not stop us from asking for Gurara State. We are asking for the state not on religious basis, but in agreement with those from the North. Kaduna State is so large, and it has one of the largest in population in the country. We deserve to have not only two states, but three states, Gurara, Zaria, and either the Birnin Gwari or the central, whatever way you want. We shouldn’t be asking for two states, we should be asking for three states. It is to bring development closer to the people, it is not a matter of us producing the governor or not. We want those things that will bring development closer to the people. That is why we are asking for Gurara.

Disunity in the region
Political unity is a gradual process. It is a school that every community goes through. We are building on what our forefathers have done in terms of trying to bring Southern Kaduna people together. That journey is what has taken us to where we have Yakowa as governor today. Our people voted with one voice, enblocs, despite all attempt to divide us, that is a show of unity, that is stability and unity in Southern Kaduna. We have shown that in the choice of Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowaand I am telling you that SOKAPU will do everything possible to ensure that that unity is maintained now and in the future.

North vs South crisis
It is unfortunate. Whenever crisis starts in the state, they will say it is hooligans, it is miscreants, and who are they? That is the problem we have, people are not saying the truth. The moment there is little skirmish, if it is political, people bring in religion, if it is religion, people bring in politics, and to discuss religion and politics in an heterogeneous community like Kaduna State is dangerous. It is not good. We should work against all those elements that bring in these ugly things to show. Whoever takes and hides under the pretext of North and South, under any religion or communal crisis, it is unfortunate, he doesn’t love Kaduna State. And that is what we are going to work on; we are going to fight anybody who doesn’t like peace in Kaduna State.

SOKAPU and Kaduna politics
SOKAPU is relevant. The issue of vibrancy is an issue that bothers on so many factors. It was active and then somehow, somewhere it went a little bit low. With the coming in of the last administration under Professor Ishaya Nock, he was able to stabilize SOKAPU, and I am building on that. We are building on SOKAPU that one day, not too long from now we will be able to take decision on behalf of the people in term of resource mobilization, resource allocation, political activity and other economic activity. We are out to push SOKAPU into that fatherly role, that when we say yes, our people will say yes, when we say no, our people will say no, they are behind us. We have the Afenifere, we have the Niger Delta, and these are power blocs. Yes, we want to stabilize SOKAPU in such a way that they will be able to say one thing with one voice for our people. So SOKAPU is vibrant.

SOKAPU and Diaspora
If you were there in Kagoro during the election, you would have known that we are really well networked within the State, outside the state. Outside the country. In fact we have a website, sokapu.com; we receive correspondences from our sons and daughters in Diaspora. They make input and we are going to expand that. Yes, bring in your resources, bring in your expertise, and bring in your support so that the people can feel the impact of your contribution. If you can establish a secondary school or university, come and build it. If you are based in London, and you are a legal practitioner or a medical doctor, impact on your people down home. If you are working in Lagos, and you are a successful business man, let’s feel your impact in our community in Southern Kaduna. That is the call to our sons and daughters in the Diaspora.

Kaduna and Awolowo name
Well, many people ask the same question. It is circumstantial in a sense. I was born in 1960s at the peak of politics of the first Republic into a family that was essentially Action Group (AG). My grandfather was an activist, my father was one, and when they gave birth to me, my father said, look, this son must be a politician, and he would aspire to be as great as Awolowo of the Action Group. So my father said I should be named Awolowo.

Are you now the Awolowo of Southern Kaduna politics?
Well, not yet. I am still following the people. I have a big vision for my people. We are a people that are highly endowed with intellectual, natural resources, people, name them. But I am yet to see a visionary leader that will come and harness and mobilize our people to the level that will take advantage of these resources. Somebody who has the kind of vision that great man like Awolowo, whom I was named after has. We want an Awolowo in Southern Kaduna, we want a Zik, we want a Sardauna. If the people of Southern Kaduna say I should crystallize into Awolowo, who am I to say no. but I have a vision for everybody. I am not into partisan politics because I work but if need be and time permits, no problem.

What are we talking about here. Its like comparing Apple and Orange. Great Zik is too far ahead of awalowo who was just a rural dweller without any form of education, unlike Great Zik who already had attended several universities in US and UK with multiple educational degrees.

[b]What were the Yoruba and Igbo senators thinking? Sanusi clearly suffers from selective amnesia and delusions of grandeur.
They are cowards, fools, or were asleep at the wheel. That a man like this was confirmed as CBN head boggles my mind. Shame on them all.

What would be the equivalent in the US. . . a ku klux klansman being confirmed for national public office? It is hard for me to imagine because people who are known to be openly bigoted don't succeed in politics where I live.

Each state took respopnsibility for its students. That good.

However, look at this: <quote> Edo State Government also evacuated 100 of its students af the Maiduguri University in Borno State and also helped to evacuate fifty students of Ondo State origin stranded in the state. Students were evacuated on Wednesday night, following the security challenge in the northern state</quote>

Edo is the BEST!!!

Up Edo!!! I salute una with gun honor! Keep up your exemplary leadership.[/quote]Cosign on that. God bless Edo State.

Before I laughed at Fstranger putting Sanusi in the same sentence as Paul Krugman, but now this just makes me angry.

Let me never ever ever hear anyone claim some sort of intelligence or competency for Sanusi again in their lives. Any such folk who claim Sanusi got his positions through anything but nepotism is imo either a m0ron, a fifth columnist, or a sectarian agent.

Top three if the CBN position had been zoned to the SW was what Jarus said. Is this some sort of sick joke?

kq:

Though I posed these questions to a particular poster, anyone who likes is free to answer.

In a nutshell, I think branding the current banking system popular in Nigeria and the rest of the world as "Judeo-Christian" is inaccurate.

Quote from: ekt_bear on Yesterday at 09:03:53 PM

Two questions:
1) What is Judeo-Christian banking
2) Where is it practiced? In particular, is it practiced in Nigeria, Japan, China, and India?

I read the posters initial post and am not so sure if he/she meant to say the present banking had judeo-christian roots. What I would say is just that a lot of what is conventional nowadays, do or did have some form of support from the Judeo/Christian authorities as at the term of their advent. for example some sources do associate the modern form of banking to the UK and as at the beginning the UK was a monarchy with strong ties to the church and of course the church and monarchy had to be in agreement on such matters for it to be accepted(those were the days before the cry for seperation of church and state). Another example is the present calendaring system which of course was perfected by the church more. Though the conventional banking system may not follow christian principles but am sure i will not be too wrong to say it definitely was encouraged by the Church(by that i mean the Church authority) as a financial system. Another thought is that there is a lot of Jewish influence in the present financial system in the world over as there are usually references of Jews being financial brokers and developing many of the global financial institutions we have in the world, that wont still mean they follow Jewish rules for financial transactions but their influence in the present financial system cannot be overlooked.
The banking system used in the Western world, Japan (a nation of what we would call pagans), China (pagans, atheists, non-religious), India (primary Hinduism), Singapore, Nigeria has nothing to do with Christianity or Judaism, in a nutshell.

You'll have to provide evidence of it being "encouraged by the Church", or that there is any following of "Jewish rules for financial transactions."

I suspect that in both cases you are just making up stories, and will have a very difficult time backing up either insinuation.

Yeah! I like Katsumoto too. However, I have discovered that it is better to read as well; not just follow. If you know what I mean.

Because, in this case, I had a point. I mean examples, even in the Western/BRIC countries. I was not just too keen to take it further.

I hope we know that SECURENCY is NOW a joint venture part-owned by the Reserve Bank of Australia (Their Central Bank). The other owners are in London.

So from what I gather, it looks like RBA commissioned a university to develop technology for these notes, retained the patents, and then turned this over in exchange for equity in a company.

The initial way in which it got the technology was still related to its mandate, right?  It developed something for its own use and then found out later that their technology would be useful to others.

It doesn't seem to me as if the RBA developed this technology initially to make profit.

So I don't really see this example as being comparable to investing in a hotel.
