Even as recently as 2009, a scholar from Germany is writing a book on Awolowo:

AjanleKoko:
For those who don't like capitalism . . . Move to North Korea. Apart from that country, I find it hard to identify any other nation that doesn't operate some kind of mixed or market economy. Stop reading textbooks and face reality. By the way, I don't believe airline pilots earn less than bus drivers in America, a heavily unionized country. Impossible.
Hehe. Supposedly North Korea was the more developed part of Korea and the south was a rural backwater. Yet today North Korea is a starving, god-forsaken land and South Korea one of the richest countries on the face of the earth.

God bless capitalism, imo. Let anyone who prefers something else implement it first in his own village or LGA, but stay the hell away from mine grin

I actually don't entirely dislike OBJ.

I don't like that he installed terrible and incompetent governors in the SW in 2003 and 2007. I don't like that he failed on electricity. But aside from that, was he really that terrible a leader?

Nigeria prospered under his watch, did it not? Not as much as it could have, admittedly. But how many other leaders would have done better in his position?

Hahahaha. . .all these okoros feeling funky sef. Na only one question dem ask o but na story dem dey go find for internet as to why he was regarded as Jik of Africa. Na so dem dey take fail exams.

Please list the achievments of Jik of Anambra, biko nu.
grin
Hehe. Zik of Africa, named so by his uncle, broda and cousins grin

All of this is hilarious to me. Their silence about his actual accomplishments speaks volumes!

As for me, I would rather be Ekt_bear of Ekiti with actual things that I've done than "Ekt_bear of Earth" with nobody being able to recall how exactly I got the name.

Blackberries, iPhones, Nokia phones, iPads, Laptops, HTC Phones, Playstation Portables, and Inverters.
Where can one dispose of these items quickly? Let's say I brought one of those to Nigeria, say 100 blackberries, should I sell them off myself individually or there a bulk buyer I can find?
Politics › Re: The Fault Lines Within Nigeria by ektbear: 7:10pm On Jul 17, 2011
There are always choices. And some have chosen to not live in sabon garis. It isn't as if the entire southern population in the north lives there. Perhaps a majority, but not all.

revolt:
the question is how will the middlebelt generate funds to buy the tank.  abeg middlebelt should chill with their fulani brodas afterall hausa has given them power more than other ppl in nigeria. theyve ruled from gowon ibb each ruling 8 to 9 yrs even hausa never hold tht amount of time. one nigeria ooooo. were not breaking up.
Middle Belt, if I had to guess is quite a bit richer per capita than the core north. So why won't they have money to buy tanks?

I am not from the middle belt at all, but it seems to me that a large, relatively underpopulated and very agriculturally productive place like the middle belt could be like Zimbabwe back when it was a good country. Bread basket of West Africa. If it were under competent management, at least.
Capitalism = modern day slavery / colonization.
What do you mean by this? And what would you suggest replacing capitalism with?

Do you dislike private individuals/entities owning property, and being entitled to reap the rewards of selling the fruits of that property?

EzeUche:
I guess you do not know what Sabon Gari means. All non-Indigenous people are expected to live outside cities in the North such as Kano in specified areas.

If you go to the South, there is more freedom to live in different areas.
You didn't understand my question. Anyway, so your issue is the first one I raised, not the second.

Forming their own country will just leave room for Fulani Herdsmen to overrun and take over their new country.
Why? If they form their own country, this means they get to form their own army and police force. And such forces would turn the Fulani herdsmen into suya meat.

Or you think a Fulani herder can stand up to this:
https://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/abrams-122.jpg

Not that they'd need that to deal with them, but you get the idea.

If Nigeria splits and Fulani herder strays into a country that is not his, he will be rounded up and deported.
Politics › Re: The Fault Lines Within Nigeria by ektbear: 6:42pm On Jul 17, 2011
Your reference to the Sabon Garis, is your issue that people don't feel safe living outside of them?

Because if your issue is just having a separate neighborhood, well we have the same in the south.

Same draconic pattern opportunists like otedola, adenuga, ibru, danjuma and the rest of dem leeches are trying to create in nigeria.Exploiting and hijacking the state resources, making it theirs without prices at the expense of the people.
Crony capitalism in which a privileged few suck at the teat of the FG (or are gifted monopolies like Dangote) isn't really what I have in mind as "capitalism"

Business › Re: The Economic Structure Of Nigeria By Simon Kolawole by ektbear: 6:28pm On Jul 17, 2011
Nice piece of work. He did a very good job of explaining why these other sectors are unattractive. He forgets Ogun State as one of those which will survive, though (or at least, could survive if it had more leeway to tax today.)

So what do we do, knowing that most of the states in Nigeria will not survive if there is 100% resource control? I've made my own suggestion in the past, but want to hear what others propose.

Pukkah:
This is a beautiful and incisive article that will, as usual, achieve nothing. So sad.

Business › Re: Lamido Sanusi's Performance - Brilliant, Over-hyped, Or Mediocre? by ektbear: 6:22pm On Jul 17, 2011
Let me play the devil's (Sanusi's) advocate for a second.

Why didn't the shareholders sue the CBN or something?

I don't understand this bank takeover well enough. Why aren't they fighting for their rights? If someone confiscated my property under circumstances like this, I'd do everything in my power to bring it back under my control.

Alright, devil's advocate mode off.

Now, in the management teams for these banks taken over by the CBN, is there a director or other high-ranking guy representing the interest of the shareholders? Or is it purely Sanusi's men? If the latter, then this seems wrong to me.
Politics › Re: New "north Nigeria" Vs The Middle Belt by ektbear: 6:13pm On Jul 17, 2011
David Mark doesn't really matter, he isn't the one keeping Benue or the middle belt tied to the core north. Arguably they aren't these days; OBJ and now GEJ have done a fairly good job of separating the middle belt from the core north (imo)
Business › Re: Lamido Sanusi's Performance - Brilliant, Over-hyped, Or Mediocre? by ektbear: 6:08pm On Jul 17, 2011
Can you explain the following:
Even if the bank was in trouble, as alleged by Lamido Sanusi, why were its shareholders and Management not given the same opportunity Unity Bank and Wema Bank was given to recapitalise their banks?
What was Sanusi's rationale for the above?

Even if Intercontinental is the most sickly bank, if the shareholders are willing to inject enough money, then why should they be prevented from controlling their bank again?

Listen, stop crying, and go visit any # of thousands of other such website where "high-tech lynching" of PUBLIC OFFICIALS and GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES takes place. Dailykos.com is one I used to hang around a lot. Redstate.com is another I would visit. Why are you whining so much? Do you think a forum thread like this is unique?

People are not allowed to criticize public officials unless it is done non-anonymously? Are you typing from North Korea or from the USA?

Who even called him Zik of Africa, sef?

His cousins? His uncle? I could even see if he was the driving force behind the independence movement in Nigeria.

Zik of Africa, unknown outside of Nigeria, unpopular in the Eastern region, not loved in the North, not loved in the West.

Lol.

I'm not trying to be bad belle or nothing, but I don't get it. Even Igbos don't really like the dude. So how did he become Zik of Africa w/o even being Zik of Igboland first?

No sweat, just doing my bit. WRT my usage of claivoyance, I apologise from the bottom of my heart. I put the misuse to being tired at my night English class.  grin  You can put down all errors and typos to this.

But that post was made on the 17th of June (a full month ago). Did it f0ck you up so bad that you have to go back daily to read it?  grin There I was scratching my head for a minute, wondering when I used that term not realising that it was from a month ago.

Ok, I am sorry if I was too harsh. But I thought you had forgotten all about it because you didn't respond for three weeks. Were you undergoing therapy? If you want, I can contribute to the cost of therapy. Think of it as my contribution to humanity. Working at the morgue as a body washer can be depressing for someone in their mid forties.  tongue

I tend not to respond to lunatics sick people but since I am partly responsible for the state in which you find yourself, I will respond from time to time.  grin  Please don't think I am being snobbish to you when I don't respond.

Don't worry, I still love you like a teacher loves his student.  wink
