^-- Well said. I have female friends and have had slept at their houses before. But if I'm sleeping in their bed. . .we are no longer friends ![]() If a man is sleeping at a woman's house, he better be sleeping on the couch in the living room. Otherwise. . . |
desholah:Seems analogous to the untouchables (Dalit caste: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalit) that they have in India. |
fstranger3:Foreigner? Me who was born in Nigeria, a foreigner? Cheap, yes. Jobless, nope, I'm being paid a salary. Better than some earn out of college. I am fully qualified to be Aare Ona Kakanfo of Nairaland (and in 20 years time, Yorubaland ) |
2nd article you posted is bunk; he cited GDP figures, but made no mention of poverty rates. Or any sort of zonal analysis like the CBN did. Regarding the first article, let's see zonal data and progression over time. And better yet, link to the study. I don't believe it. No man can honestly say poverty is HIGHER now in Nigeria than it was in 1996. It is a lie. |
^-- Who is that? |
Poverty rate is NOT on the rise. It is a lie! https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-633327.0.html#msg8003363 |
I don't see what evidence those two articles provide to support this idea. I bet if I show you a plot of GDP/capita versus poverty, the former going up causes the latter to go down. Anyway, imo our focus in Nigeria should be on producing more stuff, getting economic growth. Let's make the pie bigger first, then worry about how to split it up. |
^-- You have the wrong idea. . . I'm not laughing ;] Trying to help fix the situation! Let's not turn this into a man vs. woman thing @GenBuhari: You are right on the first part. I'm a throwback to the 1700s, in some ways. |
Jarus, when shall you run for governor of Kwara and redeem your people? I hope you are at least making preparations. 12 years from now might be a ripe time. |
^-- why are two beefing And who told you I hate it? I love it more than any other on earth, despite it not doing anything for me |
MzDarkSkin is no more a foreigner, she is omo naija She has spent enough time here to at least be considered honorary ![]() As the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Nairaland, I command it to be so ![]() |
I think it is better to have a national assembly that is skeptical rather than a rubber stamp national assembly like we currently have. It is GOOD to not have everything controlled by one party ![]() Strong democracies have checks and balances and opposition parties. |
lmao @ the above two posts :] |
Part of me is rooting for GEJ a bit though. I'd like to see the northerners kept out of power for a bit longer. They always do a terrible job when in office. . . And I'm afraid that GEJs power plan wouldn't be implemented. Like, I can easily see Buhari not raising the electricity tarriff, as one must if the system needs to be fixed. On the other hand. . . to be quite honest, GEJs closeness to Obasanjo and Igbos concerns me. I strongly dislike the former, and don't trust the latter (not trying to be an @ss, just trying to be a bit honest here!) Moreover, GEJ seems like a weak, incompetent guy. And his destruction of the zoning principle could have very bad longterm effects. So as I said. . . I'm not too obsessed over this election. |
Untentable:Was she too stupid to realize this was not a good idea before you raised the issue? |
What? Posts too long, what is your point? Higher GDP/capita doesn't necessarily imply lower poverty rates? |
Untentable:You should forgive and forget. And next time I go to Ibadan, i'll make sure to stop by her house and "sleep over" too ![]() Wake up my good man! Drop this chick. What is wrong with you? |
@deniyor: For all I know, you are right. Maybe I am an osu. Maybe one of my ancestors moved westwards from his village to mine, to escape discrimination and persecution. It doesn't have much meaning in my culture though. . . so whether I am or not, doesn't matter. |
deniyor:I am not sure if you have difficulty reading. It isn't a part of my village's culture or traditional religion. Otherwise, presumably I'd know about it and wouldn't be asking questions. . . |
@Reality101: OK, was curious. Thanks for clarifying. |
@Reality101: So nobody cares about it any more? You would marry one, and your parents/relatives wouldn't care? |
^-- I probably know as little about it as you do. I'm googling now and trying to learn. |
Is there any way to tell? Do they have certain names, look a certain way? If me as a Yoruba man marries an osu, will my kids be considered also osu? What %age of the Igbo population is osu? Also, where do most of the osu in Nigeria live? In the villages, cities, Lagos. . . ? Just curious, trying to understand this phenomenon and how it affects romance. |
^--Thanks, fixed. |
ragdollz:Of our two posts above, who seems less calm? , for one thing, I wasn't talking to you,Doesn't matter. I'm talking to you. and for another, you won't understand. Just look the other way.I don't remember asking you for advice. |
^-- I hope you are joking ![]() Even if so, not very funny. |
^-- I'm not asking about MY grandpa (who was a Christian, and hopefully is in heaven now.) I'm asking about YOUR grandpa's grandpa. Who in fact it was IMPOSSIBLE for him to know about Jesus, since Christianity wasn't available at that time. Or we can wind back to your ancestor from the 1500s, if you like. So you can answer this question and think about whether it is justifiable for a man who has no access to Christianity but is otherwise upright to go to hell. If God is just, how can that possibly be what he does? ![]() Anyway, this is a big problem I have with many Christians. . . they don't think. They just mindlessly quote the Bible without thinking about the implications. Regurgitate what somebody told them w/o thinking through things, asking, "Is this consistent with a God who is just, fair, and holy?" Anyway, since you haven't thought about this issue at all, you should investigate what some other Christian thinkers have to say about it. C.S. Lewis in particular has some interesting things to say about this topic. |
Break up with the chick. She is either cheating or doesn't have any common sense. Either way, not worth your time. Plenty of beautiful women in Nigeria, no need to waste your time with this one. |
