babasoty:
and if that news is true --- SR had to commit a crime so as to report a story--- is that morally okay ?
And who told you they committed a crime? Likely the foolish woman CCed many people on the email. One of whom was repelled by Goofluck Expo J's cheating and dishonesty, and decided to forward the email to SR!

A few comments:

1) This is what happens when dummies (GEJ and his ministers) tries to cheat on the exam. Does it not make sense to communicate privately, rather than emailing everything around?  grin grin grin Of course you'll get caught if you are communicating via email and CCing several people. Someone is BOUND to rat you out. He should have done his expo more quietly.

2) To those claiming this is propoganda, we shall see in a few hours  cool I dey laff o  grin grin grin

3) Shame on Goofluck Expo Jonathan, shame on these ministers, shame on the media company.

It is both silly and illogical to use the behavior of a few bad eggs (or many, even!) supporting either candidate to then disparage that candidate. . .

Nigeria - emerging power
Emerging power with no electricity?  grin

Not yet. A lot of things need to be put in place first.

Shouldn't cost more to ship a container from Lagos to Abuja than it does from China to Lagos, for example. . .

Got a LOT of work to do.

EzeUche:
One thing to learn from Japan is that they have not forsaken their culture or religion for Western ways and customs. Africans need to learn to have pride in our traditional customs.
Meh. Some of these African customs/cultures sucked @ss. Slavery, ritualism, cultism, the osu stuff. . .

I'm glad that sh1t is dead (or dying).

I don't like this idea of holding on tightly to culture. I believe instead in improving it, getting rid of the bad stuff and adding more good.

Let's try to see whether this Nigeria project can work first. If not, then I agree, let's find another option.

The direction of the world is moving towards more economic and political integration. . . let's only partition the country as a last resort.

@aletheia: It looks to me that you'll chose the most uncharitable interpretation of Buhari's words possible. You are welcome to make that choice, though.
Politics › Re: General Buhari Is A Disappointment To Me. He Is Unfit To Be President. by ektbear: 7:38pm On Mar 29, 2011
The past two elections were not free and fair. 2007 elections, international bodies agree was one of the worst elections in Nigerian history.

Buhari went to court for many months to challenge the results of those elections.

Yar'Adua compromised and did a unity government including the ANPP.

Now, Buhari is running again. He has been promised free and fair elections by his President, GEJ. A promise GEJ made to all Nigerians, as well as the entire world.

So if free and fair elections don't occur. . . again, who should be blamed?

Should we blame Canada? Blame aliens? Blame Hinduism?

Should we blame Nigerians as a whole? Or blame the guy at the top of government who made the promise, GEJ?  undecided

This lack of accountability that Nigerians exhibit sometimes is frightening.
Politics › Re: General Buhari Is A Disappointment To Me. He Is Unfit To Be President. by ektbear: 7:14pm On Mar 29, 2011
I'm not sure that your criticism is fair.

I mean, GEJ took the responsibility for free and fair elections himself, guaranteeing this to both Nigerians and the Western world.

So since he has taken this on himself, who should be blamed if they aren't free and fair?

Accountability is a good thing.

^-- I think it is possible to multi-task, though. Buhari can fight corruption, and leave this task force in place to make sure power moves along.

Anyway, while I don't much care for GEJ, I won't be too sad if he wins. . . so long as he gets electricity up and running.

Only read through it once. But it looks like a pretty good plan. Not perfect, but pretty good. Certainly better than what I've seen from the other major candidates.

Very sad stuff.

Damn:
Overview of the History of Revenue Allocation in Nigeria
The derivation principle was first mooted by the Phillipson Commission of 1946 that saw it as the principle through which a region would benefit from its non-declared revenue according to the proportion of its contribution to the central revenue (Adebayo, 1988).  Despite the fact that this principle was equally challenged early enough by the Northern delegates to the General Conference on the review of the Richards Constitution at Ibadan in 1950, it was retained. Between 1954 and 1957, the derivation principle became the chief allocation principle mainly as a result of the dominance of Nigerias export market by primary products from the three major ethnic groups especially the cocoa rich Western region. Also in 1957, a new revenue commission, the Raisman and Tress Commission argued for a reduction of the fiscal gap or imbalance between the Western and other regions. Thus, the committee narrowed the scope of the application of derivation by setting up the Distributive Pool Account (DPA) for other taxes not declared regional or federal. These were made up of mining royalties (30%) and general import revenue (30%) that are to be allocated to the regional governments.
Were we selling cocoa in the Western region, or cocaine?

Kind of amazed it brought in that much cash.
Politics › Re: Tinubu Demands Release Of Acn Candidate In Akwa Ibom by ektbear: 10:07pm On Mar 28, 2011
Alj Harem, those issues you raise of property/land aren't a big deal, pretty easy to resolve. Everyone just keeps what they have, even if it is in a different country.

what if somehow we split up the oil revenue too, so that Kanuriland has a cash stream.

Would it be ok if we split up then?

Only reason we are together is because of oil, right?

All this zoning, minority stuff, marginalization, blahblah stuff is just tiresome. . . I don't want to deal with it.
