Crime / I Only Kill Those Who Deserve Death –suspect by Ekykool(m): 9:39am On Nov 27, 2013
A university dropout, Sodiq Jimoh, has
told operatives of the Special Anti-
Robbery Squad in Lagos that he is not an
armed robber, but a killer.
Jimoh, a 28-year-old indigene of Lagos
State, confessed that he was a member
of Eiye Confraternity and was
responsible for the murder of many rival
cult members.
According to Police authorities, the
suspect, who is a trader at the Alaba
International Market, was usually hired
on contract by traders in the market to
intimidate or kill rivals.
The suspect and others at large were
said to have killed at least five people in
Alaba area of the state in May.
It was learnt that after the killings, the
Officer in charge of SARS, Abba Kyari,
began an investigation and Jimoh was
arrested along with his friend, Ibrahim
Oshilomo. After a search of Jimoh’s
home, two masks and guns were found.
Jimoh, said, “I am not an armed robber, I
am just a member of Eiye cult. During
the market election, one of the
contestants gave us N1m to flush out his
opponent’s supporters.
“On May 22, 2013, we knew that Black
Axe (Aiye) members had also been paid
to support an opponent. So we knew
there would be a fight. I got 15 of my
boys and Aiye people attacked us first.
But the Eiye boys were able to gun them
down.
“Four of them, Chibuzor, Tony, Ayanga
and Chinedu; died on the spot. I did not
pity them because it was self-defence.
As cultists, we only kill those who
deserve death and those guys were also
evil.”
Jimoh, who claimed to be married with
three children, said he was not the
leader of the cult but the fifth in
command.
He added that he usually wore the mask
in order to avoid being identified by rival
cult members.
When asked why he took to cultism, he
said, “When I was in 300 level, some
boys tricked me into following them to a
party and gave me something to eat.
They said if I did not join them, I would
die.
“I couldn’t cope with school so I left and
then became a television trader in the
Alaba Market.”
The second suspect, Oshilomo, said he
also participated in the killing, but was
deceived into joining in the operation.
“I am also an Eiye member but I belong
to Iba branch, not Alaba branch. I only
went to buy something in the market on
that day when Jimoh said I should escort
him somewhere. It was when Aiye boys
started shooting at us that I retaliated,”
he said.
When asked where they usually got their
weapons from, Oshilomo said, “Our
leader, Falade, aka Elebiti, usually gets
the guns for us. His father is a traditional
leader in Lagos, so the guns are kept in
the palace because we know policemen
cannot just go in there to search the
place.
“Elebiti travelled out of the country
when he learnt of our arrest.”
Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi
Braide, confirmed the arrest to our
correspondent on the telephone.
Braide said the suspects would soon be
charged to court.

I commend the true christians here conveying the gospel of Christ.

@Topic...I'm not surprised. A time would come when the world would accept bad for good and good for bad. This are times for false doctrines. We christians should "take heed lest we fall".

Our conscience? Yes, our conscience tells us if we are living a righteous life. Our conscience tells what is bad and what is good. Our conscience tells us when we hear false doctrines. Our conscience tells us that it is because of Jesus, we can't satisfy sinful desires.

According to the word of God, those who say there is no God are already condemned. How can you make Heaven, when God himself is the creator of Heaven and Earth? The pope tells you that your good conscience can lead you to heaven but doesn't tell you that God is the owner of Heaven and decides who enters and who doesn't, huh?

Education / Jonathan Approves N400bn For Varsities by Ekykool(m): 12:36am On Aug 19, 2013
PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has
approved a sum of N400 billion to be
expended on infrastructural development of Nigerian universities in
order to transform them to international
standard within the next four years.

The document to this effect is expected
to be made available today at the
meeting of the Presidential Committee
on Implementation of the NEEDS
Assessment in the universities with the
leaders of the four university based
unions - the Senior Staff Association of
Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the
National Association of Academic
Technologists (NAAT), the Non-Academic
Staff Union of Educational and
Associated Institutions (NASU) and the
Academic Staff Union of Universities
(ASUU).

President of SSANU, Comrade Samson
Ugwoke, stated this while addressing his
union members at the SSANU National
Executive Committee (NEC) meeting
held at the University of Abuja at the
weekend.

Comrade Ugwoke was briefing the
SSANU members on what the NEEDS
Assessment Implementation Committee,
led by the Benue State Governor,
Gabriel Suswan is doing.

The N400 billion, according to him is
different from the N100 billion which
Governor Suswan- led committee had
raised from donor agencies and big
companies to tackle the problems of
Nigerian universities in the year 2013.

The SSANU President said: “Let me give
you a tip on what the NEED Assessment
Committee is doing. The President has
approved that within the next four years, N400 billion would be expended in infrastructural development of Nigerian universities, and to transform them to international standard.

“N100 billion has been raised by the
Suswan Committee, he has done that
already. 61 universities had been
penciled down as contained in the
NEEDS Assessment Committee. These
61 universities will share the N100 billion in various categories which include refurbishing and renovation of lecture theaters and lecture halls, refurbishing and renovation of laboratory/library and the renovation of hostels.

“The second category is building of new
hostels of international standard, self-
contained room, the latest model in the
world. That is the standard to be built in
every university, and also the state-of-
the-art laboratories as well as
classrooms, lecture theatres and the
halls.”

Comrade Ugwoke pointed out that the
money had been shared and out of the
N100 billion, N96 billion had been sent to universities.

He added: “The committee is meeting
again on Monday (today), and by
Monday, the document will be out. This
time around, it is not only by giving
universities money, but it will be
monitored to ensure that the money is
used to transform the universities, to bail universities out of the present situation and develop them to an internationally recognized university standard.”

He, however regretted that the initial
setting up of the first committee that
came up with the report was subjective,
wondering how a committee on NEEDS
in the universities would be set up to
work without the inclusion of the three
non- teaching staff unions, SSANU, NAAT
and NASU, but only flocks with ASUU
members and their associates.

The SSANU president stated that this led the committee to write a report only
from ASUU’s perspective, but for the
quick intervention of the other three
unions who wrote a counter report which was accepted by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who
apologized to the other unions.

However, he assured the non-teaching
staff in the universities and SSANU
members that none of them will be
retrenched based on the previous
NEEDS Assessment report.

The SSANU president said: “I know that
our members will be saying that what
does the committee say about our
members. I can assure you that our
members will never be relegated, they
will never be sacked or retrenched,
there is nothing like that in the terms of
reference of the Presidential Committee
on the Implementation of NEEDS
Assessment.

“We have three Presidents against one
in that committee and we are doing our
networking. Unless they want to close
the universities, they dare not try to
retrench or touch our members, because when we go on strike, it will be mother of all strikes, they know that.
Not even vice-chancellors will cross the
gate of the universities.”

He also frowned on the Senate approval
of girl-child marriage, describing it as an
embarrassment to the nation, saying
that what Senate should concern itself
with is girl-child education, compulsory
girl-child education and not compulsory
girl-child marriage.

Comrade Ugwoke also condemned the
abrogation of the National Minimum
Wage law and the failure of the Senate
to approve local government autonomy
because of their personal selfish
interest.

SSANU, according to him called on the
Senate to reverse its amendment on girl
child marriage, local government
autonomy and the issue of national
minimum wage.

Politics / 2015 Won’t Break Nigeria - IBB •jonathan, Northern Govs Eulogise IBB At 72 by Ekykool(m): 8:57am On Aug 17, 2013
FORMER Military President, General
Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (Rtd) on
Friday said that the nation would not
disintegrate despite the political
hiccups and myriads of challenges
bedeviling it in recent times.
Babangida gave the assurance at a
media briefing with newsmen at his Hill
Top mansion in Minna as part of the
activities to commemorate his 72nd
birthday that comes today.

He said, “when you were not in Nigeria
and you hear the noise, you will think
that the country will break, but when
you come into the country, you will see
people relating well with one another.”
He said, “In spite of the claim by
alarmists who want to instill fear into the
people, Nigeria is a blessed country that
can never break up.

Forget about disintegration because of
2015 campaign. People say all sorts of
things to instill fear. You may think the
country is about to disintegrate. Nigeria
does not look like that.

“Nigeria is an amazing country. When
you live outside the country, you think
Nigeria will break due to the noise you
hear. But when you enter, you see the
people laughing heartily together.”
Speaking further on former President
Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent comment
that the younger generation of
Nigerians were a disappointment, the
former military tactician said contrary to
the personal opinion of his former Boss,
there were other younger generation
elements in the country that were
doing remarkably well in their chosen
careers that should be encouraged and
not derided.

But when he was asked to mention
some of those achievers, the elder
statesman said he would not mention
names, but acknowledged their positive
contributions to the peace, unity and
development of the country.

He, however, pleaded with Nigerians to
allow peace and tranquility to dominate
the affairs of Nigeria, insisting there can
never be growth and development in an
atmosphere of rancor and acrimony.
Babangida said that Nigerians should
give credit to Obasanjo for his role and
stand for unity of the country,
describing him as a leader worthy of
emulation.

“We have gone through a lot of things
as a nation, which included struggle for
independence, struggle to stabilize the
polity after the independence. We went
through the civil war; so many things,
and these were all in the process of
making the country great as serviced
by our founding fathers.

“And in any developing country, there
are ups and downs and I think our
leaders are doing well. I only keep
arguing to ensure that the citizenry
remain steadfast and in peace, love one
another and keep on working harder. I
am very optimistic about this country,”
he concluded.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck
Jonathan and the Northern States
Governors Forum (NSGF) have
felicitated with the former Military
President, General Ibrahim Badamasi
Babangida on his 72nd birthday today,
commending his untiring efforts at
preserving the unity of the nation.

In a congratulatory letter to Babangida
issued in Abuja on Friday, Jonathan
praised the retired General for his life of
outstanding accomplishments, rejoicing
with him on behalf of the First Family,
the government and people of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Chairman of the NSGF and Governor
of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Aliyu, said in
Minna on Friday: “General Babangida’s
life symbolises statesmanship,
patriotism, vision and courage – which
are some of the excellent leadership
virtues that have guided him through
his years of active public service life.”

The forum’s message was contained in a
statement signed by Governor Aliyu’s
Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo.
It added that the history of Nigeria
would always be incomplete “without
paying tribute to IBB’s contributions and
achievements to the socio-economic
and political development of our
country.”

Politics / 2015: Buhari, Tambuwal Divide APC by Ekykool(m): 8:42am On Aug 17, 2013
MEMBERS of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are currently divided over who between former head of state and presidential candidate of the defunct Congress for Political Change (CPC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, will fly the party’s flag in the 2015 presidential election.

Saturday Tribune gathered that while influential figures in one of the constituent parties, the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN), and some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) elements in the new merger party are strongly rooting for Tambuwal, Buhari still commands overwhelming following in the defunct CPC and ANPP.

A highly placed APC source in Jigawa State told the Saturday Tribune that Buhari’s following in the merger arrangement is so strong that at a recent meeting held in Kaduna, the former governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, who could have posed a threat to Buhari’s candidature, was prevailed upon to step down for the retired General.

Those who are rooting for Buhari to fly the APC’s flag believe that he remains the strongest presidential material in the merger party that can effectively checkmate President Goodluck Jonathan or whoever the PDP presents for the 2015 presidential election.

The source, who preferred anonymity, told Saturday Tribune that both Buhari and Shekarau were persuaded at the meeting to forget whatever political differences existed between them and work as a formidable team for the success of the party.

However, some influential members of the defunct ACN, among them the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, and some governors on the party’s ticket, are said to favour Tambuwal’s candidature.

At a recent event in a South-West state, attended by Tambuwal, a state governor was said to have invited one of his friends to “come and meet our next president” (referring to Tambuwal, who had just arrived), giving an impression that the choice of Tambuwal as the APC standard bearer in 2015 election was a done deal.

“Those who are rooting for Tambuwal believe that he will be more politically marketable than Buhari, given his youthfulness; but with the retired General’s increasing popularity in the North, the fear is also real that the new party may sound its own death knell in the zone if it fails to field Buhari,” the source said.

The Interim National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, has, however, denied that the party had started thinking of who would be the party’s presidential candidate.

“If we start thinking about that, we will start digging political well. We want to build a political structure. By the time the structure is solid, we will choose whoever will represent us in Aso Rock. I don’t think that will give us a problem,” he said in an interview last week.
