Some of the comments I'm reading here is very funny to me. Which defender hasn't goofed before?

Boateng? Terry? Vidic? Ferdinand? Smalling? Koscieny? Gallas? Pique? Varane? Skertel? Sergio Ramos? LOL

If you actually dig deep, you'll find out that every defender MUST goof once in a while.

The match that's being talked about, I watched that match live and I think it ended 1-0. In that match, Eric Bailly (I didn't know he's the one then though) was superb in that match along with his co-CB. They frustrated Athletico for almost all through the match till towards the ending when Torres was introduced and he went on to score that goal. I'm pointing this out coz people are disregarding his entire performance in that match.

I'm not gonna hold briefs for Baily, but I know I won't bring out my sword of judgement till I've actually seen his displays for United. If Smalling can eventually become a rock for us, then Baily can come good for us. As for now, I won't judge him yet. Time shall reveal all.

Mou should sign more please. Let's have too many options available to us.
Your last paragraph. Do you want us to sign defenders that we might not use? We already have Smalling, Baily, Jones,Mensah. McNair says he is a midfielder, so I won't list him.

This Bailly looks like a disaster waiting to happen. If Torres can destroy him like dat, den i wouldn't want to see what the Özils, Sanchezs, Mahrezs and Defoes of the EPL will do to him
That was just a mistake of a young defender. Tores is a very pacing player, Ozil wouldn't win that ball.

You forgot to add power. Lol Mourinho likes that.

People always criticizing pace and power saw how lowly Leicester ran the league last season. Although I always advocate for a mixture of pace, power, dribbling and skills. Chelsea and City have better balance of these qualities than United. We had a better balance in 2008 with Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Nani all with pace and power, then Vidic, Brown, Neville with power.

Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic to Manchester United.

The usually reliable Gianluca Di Marzio says that Manchester United officials have already contacted the Chelsea hierarchy about the possibility of bringing the 28-year old to the Theatre of Dreams.

Chelsea obviously wouldn’t want to part with one of their first-team regulars, and the idea of selling him to a Premier League rival would make this transfer an extremely tough one to complete.

However, if the player wants the move desperately enough, then he could well force his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer.

2 me this is actually my favourite rooney goal!
This was a wonder. But it was inviting, although the first time accuracy is world class. The overhead kick was not inviting at all, it was the last thing any human would have thought.

Ali's goal took three touches. Neymar didn’t stop the ball, his first touch beat his marker and the second was the short. But Ali's goal was also a wonder.

Touch, control and lob/volley into the net. It doesn't sound out of the world to me. They happen often.

Among such, the one I respect is that of Neymar where he turned almost 360 degree to volley home. That was out of this world.

There was a goal Le Tissier used first touch control to lob himself while the ball was at his back, lobbed an oncoming defender with another touch, lobbed the 2nd oncoming defender with another touch before slotting it past the keeper.
So Rooneys kick was better than that goal?
And if you are talking about outer space goals Bergkamps goal against Newcastle is number 1 ahead of any Rooney goal.
I have just reviewed that Le Tisser goal (both) about twice. abeg, that is almost a regular goal you see every season. The Bergkamp goal, I have known it forever. Rooney's goal beats all.

Trevor in a low key FA cup fixture. Ibrahimovic in a friendly. I no know Falcao own. But you couldn't mention any from EPL. You see. Whereas we get the Le Tisser stuff every season.

Zlatans bicycle kick against England is special, Trevor Sinclairs bicycle kick from OUTSIDE THE BOX for QPR is special. Both of these are truly special once in a blue moon kicks. Rodney's bicycle kick was the type Tega and Segelu used to score every week.... And they didn't have to shin theirs. grin
Sinclair FA cup 1997
Ibrahimovic Friendly a few years back

You see, different tournaments with almost 20 years apart. Low key complications.

But Rooney in a Manchester derby, in the EPL. It comes once in a blue moon. Forget your Tega and Segelu stories, bicycle kicks from direct crosses are not common. But long rage happen every time in training.

What does that mean oga?
My friend Tega used to score bicycle kicks like Rooneys for fun but he never scored a goal like Le Tissiers or Bergkamps
We see bicycle kicks that are inviting, then when one scores it, it's not a surprise. Even Rooney scored one last season, I think against Swansea. But that Rooney's overhead kick, with the height of the ball, no bouncing, no rebound, the ball was going away from him, tell me when you saw that?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 11:30pm On Jun 07, 2016
I don't know the way you guys look at it. May be because it is Rooney.

There are goals you see every week.

There are goals you see every season.

There are goals you are opportune to see in a life time.

The goals of Le Tisser, Henry, Bergkamp, even Giggs in FA cup, are goals you see every season. But Rooney's goal against West Ham is a goal our generation was privileged to see. The instinct, the technique and precision. It was never a ball calling for the legs. It was a head ball that was falling behind. Every other person would have left it since it didn't fall to scoring position. What did he do? He turned and converted a hopeless situation into the greatest EPL goal ever. A derby winner.

A clip of old goals from a small club and watching goals live is not the same. If Matt Le Tissier had scored those goals for United or Arsenal there would be no contest. How is a shinned bicycle kick unique?

That is not even the issue , if it's about great goals we might as well recall Cantona and Bryan Robson.
The issue is that the club should strengthen this season without considering whose place would be in jeopardy. First thing is for JM to decide on his formation and buy the players that fit in, offload those that do not.
I have looked at almost all the goals again just now, they are normal good goals. Long range after may be beating a man. Rooney's goal against Newcastle could even stand some of them. Even Rooney's goal against West Ham. Even in Championship, or Africa league, we see all those goals every time.

But that of Rooney's against City is a goal in a zillion years. First time overhead strike of a high crossing into the box. Against a well fortified Manchester City.

I can say I have scored those goals from Le Tisser and some others in my local football, but I can't ever say I scored anything like that Rooney scored against City, or Ibrahimovic against England. These are goals from outer space.

Matt Le Tissier scored at least 2 goals better than that and Bergkamp's goal against Newcastle was better than that. The fact that Rooney's goal was more recent and most of the people voting did not see the other goals LIVE gives Rooney the advantage.

Anyway I am not going to argue Rooney's merits or demerits with you, you never see reason in this particular matter.
I am not one of the Rooney haters ( I was on his side when Coogar brought up the Rooney vs Berbatov argument, and also felt he had more to offer than RVP) but I try to be fair and unbiased.

Rooney has underperformed based on his potential, natural ability and his earnings.....that is an indisputable fact.
However I am not one of those blaming him for most of United's problems in the last 2-3 years. The problem with Rooney now is that he is decent in multiple positions but not excellent in any ( a jack of all trades, master of none ). If we make the right buys Rooney won't be able to make the first 11 in JM's preferred 4-3-3.
A clip of the goals was on the website. You view it before you vote just like we do while voting in United website.

That goal is unique.

i doubt Rooney will start from zero tho, we all know he already has a head start as long as he is in the club.
Hmmm, let's wait and see. Lol.

But he started from zero from Gaal and won player of the tournament in the preseason. Rooney carried on the form playing in the hole behind Falcao and RVP and was giving MOTM performance until he got a red card. By time he returned, Gaal had scattered the plan, Rooney was no longer playing in the hole but midfield. Even when Rooney played as one of two in attack with RVP, he did well and even scored that period while RVP was still struggling for form. But Gaal came under pressure to play Falcao and everything scattered.

That goal would struggle to make top 10 EPL goals of all time if an unbiased person does the assessment.
Not when Matt Le Tissier, Bergkamp, Henry etc once played in this league
That is the undisputed EPL goal of all time. A high ball, ball in flight from afar was hit once with a scissors kick with such precision and it went into the net for a big Manchester derby winner.

THE GOAL WAS NOT SELECTED BUT VOTED. A CLIP OF ALL THE GOALS SHORTLISTED WAS MADE AVAILABLE. ABEG ABEG, DAT GOAL NA HEAVENLY MADE.

I agree say PRESENT and PAST both start with 'P', but they don't mean same. No-one is contesting the performance of Rooney over the DECADE. what Fans world over is complaining of is this CURRENT ROONEY who doesn't fit in anywhere. The earlier we agree that Rooney is PAST HIS PRIME, the better it is for Manchester United as a Club.
I just hope we get it right soon, don't want to see us walk the path of Liverpool.
Wait for next season when we will again begin to play the kind of football that fits world class Wayne Rooney. Not the kind of controlled ball we attempted to play in the last two years that didn't fit Rooney, Nani, Rafael, Wekbeck, Di Maria and the rest.

Guy, you no dey shame when you praise Rooney this much? 7 goals in 9 matches by January-February? Like seriously? Do you mean good for United? Why wasn't Rooney scoring from the ist month of EPL like other top strikers that were leading the attacks of their team were doing? Rooney had to wait till January to pick a temporal form? Is this the kind of striker you want at United? Why didn't you list his shameful stat of going ELEVEN disgusting and shameless months WITHOUT an away goal? huh

If Suarez and Messi wait till January to score 7 in 9 matches, where do you think Barca will get their trophies from?
If Lewandoski waits till February to pick a temporal form, do you think Bayern will win a spoon much less a cup?
Benzema and CR7, did they wait for January before scoring for Madrid to win the UCL?

Back to EPL, Vardy, Kane and Aguero, did they wait for Jan-Feb before scoring 20+ goals?

Now wonder United have been retrogressing for the past few years. When the striker (Rooney) that made LvG ship out all other top strikers will wait for 11 months before scoring an away goal or till January before picking a temporal form, you can be sure that United will be the laughing stock of EPL. Leceister would never have won the league if Vardy was as poor as Rooney. Goals win you games not dropping into the midfield, playing horizontal cross, going 11 months without an away goal and eating £300K a week!! Fùck Rooney!! He's more harm than good. No top team will make him their MAIN attacking threat and still qualify for UCL!!
All these na fake stories you dey write there. No player on earth would have scored goals freely under our lack of creative display in the first half of the season. At some point Martial started struggling there before he was moved to left. That was when things began to move.
