It's always good for defenders to have speed. |
Chelseafan1:Cool down it's just one match. |
raumdeuter:Injury ruined him. He started well but injury and change of managers finished him. |
dopeJemi:Januzaj is fast but his individual tendencies slow him down. |

Commending our DM position. That was it. Not once did we talk about the whole League. |
Experienced players are always the best. Look at how Pedro in the wing makes Chelsea attack so fluid and chances are becoming clearer. |

None of these suggest I said he would rule EPL. It was all about signing a midfielder. |
raumdeuter:Not true. When did we have this argument? I only suggested we bought Paulinho after Thiago joined Bayern. |
Dayokanu, now to you. Show me when I said Paulinho will rule EPL. |
^^^ The average position of our forward at Ethihad exactly same as against Newcastle.. Memphis = Valencia.... Playing highest. Rooney = Van Persie. Januzaj = Rooney. |
When we beat City in 2012 at Ethihad, Valencia played the highest on our line. Higher than Van Persie and Rooney. Opta chart says Van Persie was fighting with Rooney according to you guys' logic. ![]() On City side, Ballotelli played top 9 but on average position he was behind Aguero and Nasri. Are you guys entertained? ![]()
|
This was when City beat us at Old Trafford in 2013. Silva played higher than Tevez according to opta Average position chart. Silva was actually highest on the line when Tevez was behind when they beat us.
|
Who was obstructing who here? Benzema, Ronaldo and Ozil on same line in the middle. ![]()
|
Behold the very first I checked. ![]() Using you guys deluded logic, we can say here Van Persie abadoned his striking duties and obstructed Welbeck. I can bring countless ones like this from Van Persie and world class strikers. See Ronaldo ahead of Higuain and Ozil. So we can say Ozil was obstructed by Higuain? I check these charts every now and then. The best positional chart is that of Zonal Marking. As for opta, I rely on their heat map.

weedtaker:This is rubbish. I can show you uncountable times Van Persie was not the highest playing forward even in 2012/13 from opta average position. I can also go back to show you Rooney`s average position behind one or two players in 2009/2010 from opta. Even when Rooney averaged one goal per match as a striker in the absence of Van Persie and Welbeck under Moyes, Rooney scored most of the goals involving in the build up from the deep. When he scored the second goal against West Ham, Rooney played the ball out from our box for a counter, by time Ashley Young got to the opposition box, Rooney had arrived there already waiting for the ball, then he scored. This is how it was when Val, Nani and Giggs were the providers. But our new guys are still learning how to counter. We have lost 5 counters this season. One of them in the first match, Rooney started from our box, after running to the final third with defenders out of position, Januzaj attempted an unnecessary dribble in the midfield and lost possession. Yesterday, Mata killed two counters due to lack of pace, while Januzaj got caught trying to dribble instead of passing the ball. All in the first half. It's not all strikers who thrive staying inside of the box like Chicharito. Chicharito is a box specialist, he is has always been very active there and capitalizes on mistakes, passes, etc when we pressure. But if we don't pressure he offers nothing. This is why he has always been best when we need a goal badly. |
raumdeuter:You should ask me how Neymar is doing. I was the only one who stood behind Neymar when he was still in Brazil. |
ElFenomeno1:The season is still early to say he will not score 30 goals in France. But in EPL mba! So far he is in same boat with Rooney in club outing. But Rooney shit on his head in international duties. .... The player who substituted Lacazette scored Lyon first goal of the season. Lacazette fired blank in three matches in French League. He has 1 goal in 8 matches for France. Even Andy Carol was not so dry for national team. He is 5.9 in height. Meaning the association of midgets will continue. |
chrisley024:Let's look at Madrid if there is a good player that is surplus. Then we can finally offer them DDG. They have Bale, James and Isco. But I doubt if Isco plays from the right side. Griezmann has a release clause we can activate. |
chrisley024:If we qualified for the UCL group stage, we might finally be able to bring a big singing. I still think we might get a surprise after our game on Wednesday. |
elampiro:I am happy Gaal recognizes we need to transit the ball faster and make better decisions in the final third. Even if we are buying a new striker, this ones need to be fixed. |
chrisley024:That was when our team was not balanced. Now the defence is better, Val would do better. Valencia or Young should play the right wing with Januzaj an option to come into either wings as substitute. We cannot afford two young players in the team. The last time we had that was when Rooney and Ronaldo were in our team before 2006/7 season. Valencia's ability to carry the ball with so much balance straight down the line is needed in this play with a deep sitting defence. Our major problem right now is the slow transition of the ball into the final third. Just look at Leicester, when they gain possession in their defence , within a blink of an eye, they are in the opposition third. |
chrisley024:Valencia would have murdered Newcastle in the first half today. The amount of space left to sprint into the opposition box was shocking. We wasted so much would be counters. |
"It’s also luck. I think it was a great dribble by Chicharito after getting the ball. I think you also need luck in football and it’s not only what you say about quality. I think the quality in the third phase in the crossing positions, we didn’t do so good, we didn’t make the right choices. Also we can do better with the speed of the ball and, of course, we had open chances,] alone with the goalkeeper, and we have to score there normally. But I think we were very unlucky. But we played fantastic as a team and we have fought until the end and that’s fantastic to see. I like this type of game, only the result was bad." ......... Gaal and I are not far apart. |
AdeLaNa1:Which other chance did he have? I had a 5 minutes distraction in the first half. Was there a chance? The one I saw was a shot from outside of the box. That no one can blame him. Rooney was not serviced at all. At a point he was not happy with Memphis when he shot from tight angle even though Rooney was well positioned for a close range shot. |
chrisley024:Which match? |
AdeLaNa1:Haba! No be you first mention my name. Must you force me to comment? Part of the fault is from our attackers behind Rooney. The only one time Rooney went to the wing to cross, he looked up and gave a telling pass to Mata in the box within 8 yards of the goal. But Memphis and Januzaj were competing to see who could cause more individual havoc to the opposition. Even when the young boys cross, they put it in the position of the defender even though the striker is moving steps away to gain positional advantage. Another problem, we are playing deep in defence this season, which is good because it makes us stable. But we don't have the experience fast legs to carry the ball forward quickly. Counter attacks are killed on arrival. Oppositions regroup to crowd the striker before we get to the final third. If Mata had pace, he would have got to the box with good great counters with just one or two defenders left. Januzaj also killed one, not that he didn't have the legs, but because he decided to dribble at the wrong time. If I would suggest, Valencia and Young should play the right wing. Valencia' s quick legs will help us carry the ball forward faster and the oppositions would be less adventurous with his presence. If we bring a right wing forward with pace, fine. But we are shooting our legs trying to play a craft man there, it can work if our defence play a high line. In the last few minutes we played a higher defence and with Valencia`s presence we gained the advantage to pressure. |
Nihilist:Valencia offered us a massive pressure going forward. Our passing game is not working yet. Too much time is spent in the midfield. We should always play Young or Valencia. |
If only we had brought Valencia early. He offers so much option, helps to attack faster while remaining strong in possession. |
Abeg. We should learn to pressure from the start of a game till the end. This is disappointing but such is the EPL. It looks to me the players decided to ditch the possession philosophy and went for their own game towards the end. |
This referee is a problem. |
AdeLaNa1:Which chance did Rooney miss. The service to th the box is virtually non existent. Before we get to the box, two or three people have marked Rooney. Even when he has opened well, Memphis and Januzaj will opt to go individual. |
First twenty minutes looked very good. We did everything wight except we didn't score. The last 25 minutes we became careless. Memphis and Januzaj showing the inconsistency young players are known for. Great individual talent but they sometimes forget this is serious business. The major problem is the slow build up. We allow the opposition to regroup before we push to the final third. I can't understand Mata's lack of pace, but what about Memphis and Januzaj? They aren't stretching our forward play. We may need Young or even Valencia to carry the ball swiftly to the final third. Too much passing game is has not worked so far. Our slow game is giving Newcastle hope and the clock run down quickly to our disadvantage. |
