funlord:If Gaal and Woodward really wanted a player, I don't think they would need eternity to get the business done. The summary was that they were not fully convinced. This is Woodward who paid so much for Fellaini, Mata, Herrera, Shaw, Di Maria, etc. They bundled Falcao to Old Trafford. If however, it was a mistake they made in Pedro transfer, then it becomes a lesson to be learnt from. |
Woodward. Me I trust. Even this transfer window, anything can still happen. |
Key quotes from LVGs press conference:On Injuries:"Its only a matter of time before Schweinsteiger starts, maybe it will happen tomorrow. Marcos Rojo is working his way back to fitness. Phil Jones is still ill, but he’s getting better and has done some running.”On Transfers:"When I said Pedro fitted the profile I could not lie. I said yes. You (the media) said I was interested. You put my comments into another context. I never said he was coming. If we wanted Pedro it is not a problem, he had a clause." On Ed Woodward"No-one should doubt Ed Woodward. .Every day I am updated by him. I have the idea you want to separate Ed Woodward with me. Never. Never, because every day I am updated by him and I trust him. I don’t think they [the fans] have to doubt Ed Woodward because he has proven already for manyyears he is the right person on the right spot.” On possible transfers:"You have to wait and see. There’s no pressure for me - we have 28 players. ”On David de Gea:"The situation remains the same. I said three weeks ago that we shall evaluate De Gea after 1 September. |
Louis van Gaal has backed chief Ed Woodward and indicated that it was Manchester United’s decision to pull out of a £22m deal for Pedro. It has brought criticism on Woodward who is understood to have travelled to Barcelona on Monday in an attempt to close the deal and pay the buyoiut clause in the player’s contract. But Van Gaal hinted that United pulled the plug, saying: "I think when we want Pedro it was not any problem because there was a clause in his contract. It was the easiest transfer. "No-one should doubt Ed Woodward. Every day I amupdated by him. I have the idea you [the media] want to separate Ed Woodward with me. Never. Never, because every day I am updated by him and I trust him."I don’t think they [the fans] have to doubt Ed Woodward because he has proven already for many years he is the right person on the right spot.”[Source: MUTV, Daily Mail] |
parrotibaba:Lingaard? Hmmm Always shines in preseason but exposed once given an EPL game. I will advise you let the transfer window close before you lament further. |
parrotibaba:Don't worry. .............. But read this. United did not suddenly changed their mind. The offer for the 23-year-old, who scored a hat-trick in a Premier League record time of two minutes 56 seconds against Aston Villa last season, was lodged last week. http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/9956811/manchester-united-make-bid-for-southamptons-sadio-mane |
parrotibaba:I was just wondering if we now need association of midgets as our front men. |
It's funny how people are pained now only because Pedro joined our rival. If Chelsea had not bought him, many of you would still have been shouting we shouldn't buy because we will have association of midgets in our attack. Many rallied behind that opinion. Now they cry. I guess I was the only one who firmly expressed interest from the start. Many of you guys said he played his last football under Guardiola and now he is finished. Instead of cry and pains why don't we move on? He is coming to EPL, he might still flop. |
funlord:Back four of Valencia, Smalling, Jones and Blind got us our best results last season against Tottenham, Liverpool, Man City. They were protected by Carrick. Now we have Sneinederlin in front of our new back four. We should do well against the top teams. |
ZUBY77:Let's believe the club management know what their doing. Woodward will gladly pay £100m if Gaal say go go get him. Let's not forget SAF and Charlton are still part of this team. With all their experience. |
homesteady:You have a point. |
We all thought we missed Clyne but look at the quality we brought in. Valencia would have benched Clyne. |
weedtaker:Van Gaal was not convinced about Pedro and he never was in for a Centre Back. Griezmann release clause is £56m. I don't know why Spanish teams put too much clause on their players..... |
ocephraim:We went in for Mane before we pulled out of bid for Pedro. According to report, the Mane interest has been on since last week. They must have their reasons. Gaal usually talk about a process. I guess that process involved in monitoring what is on ground and as well as what is to come. Every time they have been convinced they acted and brought out the money. I like Pedro but I also have to see things from the manager's perspective. |
MrTA:Luiz Van Gaal said he needed just a goalkeeper and an attacker. He closed any chance of signing a defender since two weeks ago. The need for a defender has been off Gaal's mind since and this conviction has been parlrticilarly reinforced with the compactness of our back four or five (if u add Sneinederlin). The recruitment so far has fitted well and Gaal has been looking at the holes to fill from our games. Perhaps he has realized now Pedro will not be the perfect player to fill the gap(s) left opened in the team. Why do I say this? Memphis was basically to play in the middle leaving the wing the areas to be filled with signings. Now it looks to me Memphis will play permanently in the wing while we look for someone who can play and cause lots of trouble in the middle. I think Gaal doesn't like Mata to play in the middle, although an intelligent player but plays and constructs slowly. Since last season, Gaal has been looking to play people with speed in the middle. Januzaj, Di Maria, Memphis. Last week we lodged a bid for Mane which was only revealed this week. Mane plays fast and can cause a lot of problem in the wing, behind the striker and even on top. Nobody knows exactly what these guys are doing, but I think they know why they do what they do. I am not one to distrust people overnight. |
Write off Woodward at your own peril. |
Dadehmola:I am trying to find the point in your comment but zero. Read that Rooney's statement again and comprehend. |

[quote author=bigkesh post=37125433][/quote]Make your list longer. Add Clyne. |
Manchester United have told Sky Sports News HQ they have dropped their interest in signing Barcelona winger Pedro amid reports he is set to join Chelsea.http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/9956258/manchester-united-drop-interest-in-barcelonas-pedro-amid-chelsea-interest ........... Report says we dropped interest. Not that we didn't meet the release clause. |

PietroRico:Is this not what you guys have played for all summer? *This will gladden Coogar, StarBoard and Chrisley024. Remaining a Centre Back. A position I think we are okay with so far. |
PietroRico:Rooney never complained about the number 9 when RVP was around. He gladly played behind Wekbeck and Chicha before RVP arrived and gladly played again behind RVP Welbeck and Chicha when Moyes took over. |
PietroRico:Yes. But this doesn't have anything to do with Van Persie. He said so only after RVP had departed. Also, Ferguson said the number 10 is Rooney's best. Andy Cole said playing behind another striker in a tadem is Rooney's best. So this means it's the number 10. In 2009 Rooney requested to be played as a striker. So SAF played him and Berbatov. Now he made a case to be played as a striker in the absence of another established striker. |
PietroRico:Rooney never had a problem with Van Persie. It was about Kagawa. How many times will I say this? Rooney had no problem playing behind Welbeck, Chicharito and Welbeck, Sturbridge, in the national team. |
From goal.com. This one put Rooney above Mata and Januzaj. Appeared to have marked down Damian for that back pass as a few others did.
|
There are many players rating out there. Each with its own opinion. Many put Rooney above several players. ....... Darmian: A smart, energetic display by the right-back. Unlike his colleague on the other flank he got back smartly to cover the pacey Diaby but did not allow Brugge’s threat to curb his attacking enthusiasm. 7 Smalling: Another rock-solid performance from the centre-back, who showed sharp positional sense when Brugge looked to counter. 7 Blind: Looks to be an ideal centre-back in a Louis Van Gaal side. He brings the ball forward neatly from the back and, whilst his pace was at times exposed, he positioned himself well. 6 Shaw: Consistently found wanting defensively as Dierckx slipped in behind time and again. As exciting as he can be in attack, he was a liability at the back. 5 ChrisSmalling.jpg Rock solid: Chris Smalling impressed at Old Trafford Carrick: Lacked the pace to deal with Brugge’s counters and, on more than one occasion, panicked when the opponents pressed high up the field. Put himself in a poor position as he deflected in the opener. 4 Schneiderlin: Already looking like the foundation on which United can build their midfield in the years to come. Intercepted and tackled well, providing the energy and drive his more senior colleagues could not. 7 Mata: Though he remains a creative threat, he looks somewhat neutered on the right flank. His game tonight was rather one-track, drifting infield and passing the ball elsewhere. 6 Januzaj: Failed to build on a pleasing appearance at Villa Park, with wayward passing and poor decision-making marring his game. Once more his willingness to go down under the slightest of contact blighted his performance. 5 MemphisDepay.jpg Star: Memphis Depay impressed with two goals in the first half Memphis: What a thrilling performance from the forward. From the moment he crafted his wonderful opener, beating five players before firing in, he played with menace and drive. Deserved a hat-trick and with more patience in front of goal he would have had it. 8 Rooney: Two contrasting halves from the United skipper. In the first he was anonymous and off the pace. In the second he looked re-energised, with a beautiful back-heeled flick from a Shaw cross showing he still has the skill to wow. 6 Schweinsteiger: Shielded the back four without much difficulty in the second half. He still looks very slow but showed real leadership, pointing and positioning his colleagues throughout. 7 Hernandez: An energetic addition late on, his hard-running forced Brugge defender Mechele into a careless foul; the red card he received effectively ended the threat of an equaliser. 6 Fellaini: His 10-minute cameo may have decided the tie. The opposition could not deal with his physicality and his headed goal gave United the breathing room that they may well need. 7 http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/player-ratings-manchester-united-vs-club-brugge-a2906076.html |
SailorXY:Rooney did better than Mata and Januzaj. Mata was one of those who delayed our play at the middle of the park. Hope he is not getting tired already. Team rotation will soon be called into play, or at least international break is near. |
nyabinghi:Rooney's big personality is playing a role here in him being over scrutinized coupled with the fact that he is already under the knife. Even Memphis said he missed two great chances. This two great chances were provided by Rooney. |
PietroRico:Memphis didn't play 9. So there is no clash of position. Moreover, is Memphis not suppose to be our next great player? He should be our next world class player. Rooney's best position is the number 10. I said this in all my comments since I came here, even to last summer. That is where he has played all his life that he is known for as Wayne Rooney. Even the commentator said it last night that Rooney is better playing in the number 10 than number 9. He can also excell in the number 9 which I am sure he will deliver this season if he doesn't get injured. With the personal we have, it is better to let Rooney play the number 9 while number 10 is left for Mata, Depay and Fellaini. Rooney is doing well to avoid injuries. If he should force his body beyond his fitness, he might get hamstring injury or get caught in a bad tackle from a fitter defender. He is looking to break the England goal scoring record and he knows this is the last chance he has to do it, between now and July, after which Harry Kane might take his place in the English team. Let's see how it goes. Rooney has a way of stepping up beyond competition. Before the world cup, many English fans called for him to be dropped. In the world cup he was the only English forward who did something. He contributed to the two goals England scored by way of Assist and goal. He hit the bar in another attempt. The third match he was rested and England front led by Sturbridge were horrible without him. That was the end of the criticism. Since then he has gone to score many goals playing behind Wekbeck /Sturbridge or in front of Sterling. His partnership with Sterling is becoming a delight to watch. He is even outperforming Sterling - in the last three or four competitive games. |
The only problem with our defenders is even when they can play forward, they play back to the goalkeeper. This happened from start to the end. And it's happening for the third game running. It gets me nervous. |
AncientJerk:Januzaj major problem is that he doesn't see a pass even when it is obvious. He doesn't believe in simple passes, all he wants to do is go individual. He only resort to passing after he had been blocked and our play delayed. This was why SAF didn't let Giggs retire early. Another person who had passes as a weapon was JS Park, he didn't have pace but his work rate and passes made him relevant in big games. These two knew when their striker is counting steps away from defenders, so they dros the ball in his front or on his head when close to the goal. There were two occasions like that tonight. In the first half Rooney thought Januzaj was going to cross, he moved steps away from the defender reminiscent how he scored many headers from Valencia's crosses in 2009/10 but Januzaj did not even see that move as he was head buried. In the second half there was an obvious ball he should have just lobbed to Rooney's front. Januzaj running from left to right and Rooney quick movement from to the right of the defenders had already destabilized the defenders but Januzaj ran with the ball away from the goal front. The guy is still Young, but he needs to improve his decision making fast and play less individually. |
