Fiery preacher and pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare, has said former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, does not belong in the same class with the former premier of Western Region, Obafemi Awolowo, and does not deserve to take the place of the late sage as the leader of the Yoruba race.He said although both leaders made unique contributions in bringing the race together, Mr. Awolowo belonged to a special breed created by God and was only in the class of world leaders like Mahatma Gandhi of India.Mr. Bakare stated this in an interview published in the second edition of The Interview magazine, a new monthly publication led by a former Group Managing Director of Leadership Newspaper, Azubike Ishiekwene.Mr. Tinubu, a national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, holds the title of Asiwaju, one of the numerous titles also held by the late premier of Western region, who passed away in 1987.Asiwaju in the Yoruba language means “the frontline leader.”Mr. Awolowo founded the Egbe Omo Oduduwa in the 40’s to promote the culture and unity of the Yoruba. In 1951, he founded the Action Group, a political party that ran for elections in the First Republic.He later founded the Unity Party of Nigeria, which swept the governorship polls in all the states in the old Western State as well as the old Bendel State in the Second Republic.Apart from ruling Lagos State for eight years, Mr. Tinubu, a Third Republic senator, was believed to be the brain behind the merger of some opposition party into the APC in 2013.The parties were the Congress for Progressive Change, All Nigeria Peoples Party, Action Congress of Nigeria and a section of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.The party currently controls the federal government and 22 states, including five of the six states in Yoruba land.But Mr. Bakare said Mr. Tinubu was yet to cross the kind of rivers rivers Mr. Awolowo crossed.“What major river did he (Tinubu) cross?” Mr. Bakare fired back when asked by his interviewer if the former governor was not qualified to take the place of the sage who is widely described as the last authentic leader of the Yoruba.Reminded that Mr. Tinubu was the major engineer of the merger that helped to bring the Yoruba together, the clergyman said, “And you think it was only Bola Tinubu who made that possible. I see. Which one came first, the chicken or the egg?”He stated further, “Well, the answer is in the Bible. You are a preacher yourself. God first created the bird of the air and not eggs. The birds laid the eggs. If you see the picture of patriots and Nigerian leaders here, they are all a collapse of his.“The people who are attempting to wear his (Awolowo) glasses do not have his vision, they attempt to wear his cap but do not have his brain, they attempt to wear his shoes but do not walk his ways. Show me the empire that Awolowo built with public funds. To a Yoruba man, there is no concept greater than Omoluabi.“If you get to my father’s grave in a hut he built in 1922, which is now a museum, there is an inscription ‘bibire koshefowora” which means you cannot buy a good pedigree or familial background.“I am not trying to take the shine off Tinubu’s efforts; he had laboured but he is not in the same class with Awolowo. Regardless of how many rivers he crosses, he is still Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Awolowo is Awolowo.“I have seen some paintings and pictures out there of Mahatma Gandhi, Awolowo and others and I just laugh and wonder why people can’t be themselves. When God needed a Mahatma Gandhi, he created one. So he did when he wanted an Awolowo. He created a T.D Jakes when he needed one.“A young man once went to T.D. Jakes and said, ‘Pray for me that God will bless me and make me like you.’ T.D.Jakes asked him, “Are you sure.” “He said ‘Yes’ and T.D. Jakes said, “Let us pray. May you be homeless, go through hardship,’ and the young man jumped up and said ‘no, no, no, no, “and T.D. Jakes said, “That is what produces results.”Mr. Bakare, who was the vice presidential candidate of the CPC in the 2011 election, said books Mr. Awolowo authored were still relevant today.“You need to see books he (Awolowo) wrote and how they are still relevant today,” he said. “Years after he left the scene, he is still the numero uno Yoruba leader. Eagles don’t flock. You see one at a time.”

In recognition of the impact of the naira depreciation of the affordability of its fees for Nigerian students, Global accounting body, Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants (ACCA) has announced 60 percent reduction in registration fees for Nigerian students.

The reductions also include 50 percent reduction in first year subscription, and 50 percent reduction in exemption fees.

ACCA Director, Market Transformation, Mr. Kevin Kernan, disclosed this while addressing a press conference at the sidelines of the launch of ACCA Strategic Pricing Initiative for Nigeria.

Kernan said that the reduction in fees was in response to comments from stakeholders in the wake of the impact of the naira depreciation on the affordability of ACCA fees for Nigerian students.

He said, “ACCA has historically has operated a single pricing strategy for all its customers around the globe. But in Nigeria, after a lot of research and consultation with stakeholders, from today, we are making some new prices for Nigerian students exclusively. We recognise that affordability have been an issue for many Nigerian students, particularly with the exchange rate variations in recent times.

So we are reducing the initial registration fee by 60 percent. We are reducing the first year subscription fee for new students by 50 percent. Also many students claim exemptions from our exams, so we are reducing exemption fees for them by 50 percent. These represents significant reduction in prices students, parents or their employers have to pay in order to start their journey towards ACCA qualification.

“In order to avail themselves of these new prices, the student must be resident in Nigeria. So we consider this good news for all our stakeholders in the Nigerian community.

The new pricing applies to students applying for the foundation and main ACCA examination qualifications but it does not apply to members or affiliates. The focus is on the student population.”

“This is a very new venture for ACCA and we have been considering other markets, but Nigeria is one of the first markets where we have done this. We are currently studying Ghana, Zimbabwe. What we are offering in Nigeria is very targeted and focused on the Nigerian students, with a lot of consultations with the stakeholders.”

Also speaking on the rationale for the reduction, Head of ACCA Nigeria, Mrs Toyin Ademola said, “The new pricing initiative is about making ACCA more affordable for Nigerians. It goes with ACCA values which are affordability accessibility opportunities, innovation, and diversity.

“What is driving this initiative is, having listened to our customers, one of the challenges we find that our students have is affordability. So it is not about competition, it is about us providing values to our students. It is about accessibility and also giving them the opportunities at a more affordable rate to get global qualification.”

GOVERNOR Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai of Ka- duna State yesterday disclosed what looked like an admittance that he was indeed attacked spiritually.

He was speaking on the incident for the first time while addressing a workers’ rally in Kaduna.

El-Rufai, had shortly after superintending over the Kogi State All Progressives Congress (APC), governorship primary election, “disappeared” for about 10 days.

But his deputy, Barnabas Bala Bantex, told a gathering last Sunday in Southern Kaduna, where he had gone to represent the gov- ernor, that El-Rufai travelled abroad to woo foreign investors.

Bantex made the disclo- sure at a time speculation was rife that El-Rufai had some health challenges.

Although, none of the government officials were willing to speak on the matter, El-Rufai, however, gave himself away yester- day, when he spoke about the incident.

Though, in a veiled reference, he told some resi- dents, comprising mainly workers: “They wanted me dead. But what they don’t know is that even if I am not here today, my deputy will continue. They can go ahead with their fetish ac- tivities, I don’t care.”

Daily Sun gathered that El-Rufai actually collapsed shortly after the primary election, and was thereafter flown abroad for medical attention.

The collapse, it was learnt, was occasioned by “stress,” which sources said, the governor has been going through, since he was sworn about three months ago. One of his wives, Aisha Ummi on her post last Sunday night, on the social media, two days before the governor eventually returned to Nigeria, through Abuja, further suggested that something must have gone wrong with the gov- ernor healthwise, which might necessitated his “sudden disappearance.”

She had said: “He’s healthy as can be-not an ache or pain. Our prayer is thanking the Lord that he is healthy. We pray for long life and good health to His Excellency, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai.”

The deputy governor, while speaking at the Kafachan Town Hall meeting, told the gathering that the governor was away on overseas trip to “attract investments to the state.”

But if El-Rufai had indeed gone on an invest- ment drive, he would have seized yesterday’s encoun- ter with workers to tell them something about the trip, one of the APC chief- tains, told Daily Sun:

“But if you notice, he was talking about death issue. You see, some of us are still keeping quiet because we are expecting appointments, so we don’t want to be marked. Otherwise, I would have granted you a full blast interview on this matter.”

Other APC chieftains who spoke in confidence previously about the matter had disclosed that El-Rufai was suffering from a “spiritual attack,” over the Zaria demolition:

“Ask around, the Zaria people who are angry over the demolition he carried out have vowed to see his (El-Rufai) end. And these people are using both marabouts and other African traditional magic to hit at

the man. So, forget about what some ignorant persons are saying, I can confirm to you that the man is suffering from spiritual at- tack.

“You know how passionate the man is about President Muhammadu Buhari. But Buhari was in Kaduna last Friday, and Mallam was nowhere near the airport. I understand he collapsed shortly after the Kogi congress.”

Another APC chieftain said: “We have always told him that Abuja is not Kaduna. Abuja is no man’s land, but in Kaduna, we have lo- cals who can invoke whatever they believe in, and in no distant time, you start seeing the repercussion. We hope he would have learnt a lesson or two, from this his latest experience. We wish him well, but he just has to apply the brakes. He is stressing himself too much.”

Meanwhile, the governor’s Special Adviser on Investment Promotion, Mr. Jimi Lawal, for the first time, opened up on the series of allegations against him, which many say do not make him fit, to hold a public office.

Last week, a group, the Centrum Initiative For De- velopment and Fundamental Rights Initiative (CE- DRA), peopled by persons mainly from the southern part of the state, and which campaigned vigorously to enthrone El-Rufai, had given the governor, two days’ ultimatum, to fire La- wal, or face mass protest. The ultimatum has since expired.

The group is being led by a Kaduna State University lecturer, Dr. John Danfulani.

Although, the state government is yet to officially react to the demands of the

group, Lawal, who is in the eye of the storm, has chosen to carry his cross by himself.

Lawal chose the social media to make his case.

Hear him: “I was the founder of Alpha Merchant Bank in 1988 and became the MD/CEO at a relatively young age of 29. My then chairman wanted a loan without collateral, which I refused as a professionally qualified banker that would always abide by the rules. The chairman made false allegations against me, which were investigated and found to be false. He also sued me for not being fittobetheMDbutIwas cleared by the court.

“A couple of years later, Alpha bought a controlling interest in the then Afribank, having competed and won a bid against others. One of the companies that competed against us was owned by General Abacha, who later became Head of State. So, another false allegation (was) made against me and other directors as part of a plan to take over the shares in Afribank.

“I was offered millions of dollars to deny Alpha’s interest in the acquisition, which I refused. Then, came threats to my life, on account of which my parents insisted that I leave Nigeria. So I was in exile for 10 years until 2003.

“As to being wanted in America or anywhere in the world, it is nothing but yet another false allegation. Finally, let me end with yet another prayer: if I have lied in any of the points herein contained, may the Almighty God punish me. If not, may the Almighty Allah continue to bestow His blessings upon me, my family and loyal friends; especially Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai.”
