Politics › Osun PDP Senatorial Candidate, Others, Donate foodstuffs To Civil Servants by elbinmanny(op): 10:53am On Jun 17, 2015 |
As the condition of Osun State workers continue to deteriorate due to the non payment of their salaries for the past seven months by the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the Osun East Senatorial District in the March 28 National Assembly elections, Chief francis fadahunsi, has donated foodstuffs to government workers in the senatorial district.
Chief Fadahunshi, a retired Deputy Comptroller General of Customs, made the donation through his fadahunsi Foundation, yesterday, in brief events in Ile Ife and Ilesha. At the events, the food items were handed over to the officials of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, who were mandated to distribute them among their members.
A former deputy speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Ropo Oyewole, while delivering the food items including 50 bags of rice and 20 bags of garri to NUT in Ile Ife, stated that the gesture was in the spirit of Ramadan and also to help cushion the effect of the non payment of salaries in the state.
According to Oyewole, the founder of the foundation, Chief francis fadahunsi, empathized with the workers and urged them to remain law abiding, pledging to continue to render assistance whenever such is needed.
Similarly, a former chairman of Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Otunba Sunday Ojo-Williams, who presented 50 bags of rice and 20 bags of garri to the executives of NUT in Ilesa, said fadahunsi also intend to expand the scope of the activities of the foundation by offering more qualified people scholarships and job placements, urging them to persevere even in the face of the crisis at the moment and assuring them that he would always assist whenever he is called upon.
It would be recalled that the non payment of the salaries of workers in Osun State in the past seven months have been creating crisis in the state, with calls for the resignation of the state governor, who uncharacteristically has confessed that the situation is beyond him. The governor's confession came after calls for his resignation and a passionate appeal sent out by the Osun State chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, asking churches to help feed workers in the state, as the non payment of their salaries have put them in precarious situations.
Heeding the call, The Living Faith Church, a.k.a Winners Chapel, donated food items to the workers before the donation from the fadahunsi Foundation http://dailypost.ng/2015/06/17/foundation-donates-foodstuffs-to-osun-workers/

The embattled former governor of Rivers state, Rotibi Amaechi has been penciled to be Nigeria’s new High Commissioner to Australia.According to APC leaders, Amaechi’s name is among 25 others being shortlisted for posting to various Nigerian foreign mission across the world.Amaechi, who is one of the biggest sponsors of President Muhammadu Buhari ,was earlier speculated to have been allocated the position of Secretary to Federal government. The post is now reserved for the South East candidates, Hon Uche Onyeaguocha and Chief Ogbonnayia Onu.Northern close relative of President Buhari are not comfortable with Amaechi hanging around the President bearing in mind his betrayal of his brother and former President and suggest that posting him to far-away Australia will be a big release to President Buhari and APC. http://dailymail.com.ng/rotimi-amaechi-is-nigerias-ambassador-to-australia/

Politics › Power War APC Seeks Postponement Of Leadership Election Till Buhari Arrives. by elbinmanny(op): 11:32pm On Jun 08, 2015 |
Faced with a looming crisis in securing the selection of its favored candidates for leadership posts at the Senate and House of Representatives, officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are weighing measures to force the incoming class of National Assembly members to postpone their convening beyond Wednesday. According to a senior party source, the postponement “is to enable President Muhammadu Buhari to rein in rebellious lawmakers within the ranks of our party. Buhari is expected back in Abuja on Thursday night after attending the ongoing G7 meeting in Germany. Some APC lawmakers led by for former Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State have reportedly reached an alliance with People’s Democratic Party lawmakers overnight to present a PDP candidate as President of the Senate. Immediate past Senate President, David Mark, was named as the likely beneficiary of Mr. Saraki’s revolt.Former Governor Saraki is reportedly irate that he was schemed out of the APC’s nomination for the Senate Presidency. Last Saturday, the party bypassed the former governor amid concerns that he could not be totally relied upon to lead an effective and cooperative Senate that would give President Buhari reliable legislative backing. Instead, the APC adopted Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan from Nigeria’s northeast state of Yobe as its candidate for the Senate Presidency. SaharaReporters learnt that President Buhari had expressed serious concerns to some associates that a Nigerian Senate led by Mr. Saraki would not lend him the necessary legislative backing to wage a major war against corruption.Mr. Saraki carries a lot of corruption baggage, dating back to his days as an executive of the defunct Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria, and continuing with his tenure as Kwara State governor.SaharaReporters also learned that another group of lawmakers in the House of Representatives were also upset with the APC’s choice of Lagos legislator, Femi Gbajabiamila, as the party’s sole candidate for Speaker. Yakubu Dogara, an aspirant for the speakership who hails from Bauchi State, leads the disaffected legislators opposed to Mr. Gbajabiamila. An APC executive told SaharaReporters that some party leaders consider Mr. Saraki as the wrecking ball who must be subdued to ensure that the party does not lose the leadership of the Senate. In the midst of the internal squabble within the APC, SaharaReporters learnt that former Senate President David Mark has been mobilizing disgruntled APC senators to back him for a third term in the premier post at the Senate. Another source disclosed that several PDP senators were demanding outrageous sums of money from APC leaders in exchange for casting their votes for candidates favored by the party. |

An international human rights group, Amnesty International has asked Nigeria’s new President, Muhammadu Buhari, to investigate some senior military officers for alleged complicity in the extra judicial killing of over 8,000 people in the north-east.Among those the organisation wants investigated are the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Kenneth Minimah. Also named for investigations are former Chief of Defence Staff, Retired Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim and former Chief of Army Staff, Retired General Azubuike Ihejirika.Five other senior Military officers were also named for investigation in the report. In its latest report on the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents, Amnesty International accused the leadership of the Military of participating, sanctioning and failing to prevent the violations. The report said that the senior military officers were duly informed of the arbitrary arrests, unlawful detentions and extra judicial killings but they did nothing about them. The report covered the military operations between 2009 and 2014. http://www.channelstv.com/2015/06/03/amnesty-international-accuses-military-of-extra-judicial-killing/ |
