BlackTechnology: I need better explanation on how the rise of naira/dollar rate to #139=$1 caused banks to cut jobs down.
Remember
Sanusi was witch hunting banks owned by Southerners.
Also your information failed to let the world know that cheap importation destroys local industries. I'll explain in another 9 months when the ripple effects of the recent devaluation has similar effects. They gave Sanusi the chance to witch hunt them when they couldn't tidy their books. Yes! I agree. Cheap imports destroy local industries but many Nigerians seem to prefer anything imported to locally made goods. |

fortunes0215: Correct. Not all goods would be affected by price increase. Those of imported goods and products which are produced locally with imported raw materials will increase. Time to think entrepreneurship, export and patronage of locally manufactured goods. More positives than negatives though. Salary earners would need to get pay rise. And most times, when the pay rise happens, job cuts follow because the employer has to make profit. Ordinarily, if the employer is to make profit, the possibility of pay cut is often the best/easiest way out. However, for the purchasing power of the employees to correspond with the devaluation, they need pay rise. This was what happened in 2008/2009 when the price of crude fell and CBN raised naira/dollar rate from #139=$1. The ripple effect led to many jib cuts with the banking sector hit very hard. I won't be surprised if job cuts start happening by 1st quarter of 2015. |

There have always been pockets of robbery in that state especially first bank branches being hit. First bank Oke-Ila, Ado Ekiti was hit some years back and it was eventually found out that a policeman was involved. Recently, Ifaki Ekiti branch was also hit. SuperMartins: u av a valid point but the rate at which Nigerians die at foreign lands seems alarming cos even if a white man kills a Nigeria here in our land, he gets taken baq to his country where he myt go free..its funny how Nigerian lives ain't valued at all in d foreign lands.. U also are right when it comes to value of life. The truth is that as a country, we don't value the lives of our citizens living within Nigeria. That will make it hard for any country to value lives of our citizens. There are numerous examples ranging from police accidental discharge to army brutality on civilians. Most advanced countries would not let anyone in uniform go scot free without reprimand for such actions without proper scrutiny. It's only when our govt and its agencies show value for Nigerian citizens living within our borders that others would follow suit. |

It is right time d house of assembly should pass the law dat no nation has d right to sentence our citizer to dealth in any form of death, rather them should be bring back home for home judgement. SuperMartins: That's bad..Nigeria would do no such thing if a foreigner was caught in did same act..why do other nations threat our citizens Dis bad I understand they have existing laws that any1 caught traffiking drugs into their country is to be killed if found guilty. In short, any1 carrying drugs into Malaysia has already gambled with his/her life. The choice of death penalty is to serve as maximum deterrent yet Nigerians are the highest nationals killed in Asian countries for drug trafficking. When in Rome, behave like Romans. |

vicadex07: Politics is quite different from running a business. In politics, you need to show you really care for the people you intend to govern. He is a good business man...agreed, but is he going to make a better politician, I doubt it.
Yes I have internet...and I can afford to buy up all your father's property but am not contesting for any political posts and am not lamenting the poverty of my "people" without making any direct impact in their lives. The beauty pageant he hosts, does he not make money from them? Or are you telling me its a charitable event.
Don't qoute me again unless you have something intelligent to say I second your opinion. He can choose which direction his business goes. He can decide who to involve in his decision making and when. His purpose of running a business is to make profit and he has a target market for that. However, holding a public/elected position is different. He has to involve both the rich and the poor. His decision making has to be all inclusive. I doubt if his success in business can translate to success in politics considering the fact that Nigerian politics is very dirty and not a 1 man show. |

[quote author=shady26 post=27504917]this man stands a better chance winning the presidential elections than the present crop of politicians we have contesting for it. his few words even made more sense and has better direction than all the useless paper read foolish declarations with rented crowds we have witnessed so far.
I don't think he stands a better chance considering the Nigerian political settings. Remember he lost woefully at the primaries for Bayelsa governorship election. Can he play politics the way Nigerian career politicians play it?
If he continues to be a gentleman, I doubt if he will make much impact in the political scene as he has done in entertainment.
He has seen that in Nigeria, you must have political power. That's why he's trying to gain it. I don't know much about Bayelsa but I'll like to know what impact he has made on the common man there with his achievements in the business world. |
