Car Talk / Re: Car Drinking Fuel Like GARRI!! What Could Be Responsible??? by elektra80: 8:13pm On Oct 02, 2013
U have a check engine light on, go and scan the car and post the code here, or fix it. That light is there for a reason and unless u scan it, mechanics are just going to continue draining u with trial and error. Mechanics will tell u only faulty injector can cause bad fuel economy but in real life there are lots of factors.

♥Dεs•Chγκσ♥:
It's difficult to answer your question because car manufacturers strive instead to make their cars fuel-economical. However, I can tell you that on an average, Toyota does the better job on fuel economy.

that is a very bland statement, but I don't blame u. So if u put a Toyota sequoia against a ford focus, the Toyota will still have a better fuel economy? We are in a country where people expect a car to be as big as a Toyota sequoia, as fast as a Ferrari, as luxurious as a Mercedes Benz s class, then fitted with an angine of a Nissan micra... How is that possible? Last time I was with a friend and a ford fucos drove by.. He said nice car but he can't buy it because its a ford and it would consume a lot of fuel. I just laughed, he actually argued with me that it would consume more fuel than a Toyota landcruiser. U want size, u want better performance, then u need energy and to produce energy u need fuel.

One of the main advantages of this car is its fuel economy.. really good fuel economy especially those fitted with CVT

Nice job Innoson, at least he is doing something. But I think this is just an assembly plant, and the video was staged. Do u want to tell me they manufacture engine from scratch from this plant? The answer is no.. If they do such thing they would have shown the process in the video just to prove to people that the manufacture vehicles from scratch. I don't even see any robots, just workers hitting hammers and all that.. everything is imported from china.. I can't trust my family in this cars.. but nice work though. Look at a video of a real car manufacturing firm where they manufacture everything from scratch.

Car Talk / Re: Which Engine Oil Should I Use? by elektra80: 8:40pm On Sep 29, 2013
Mobil 1 is available in Nigeria.. but the main issue is not about Mobil 1 but the viscosity of the recommended oil. I have read lots of comments here where people just say 'go buy Mobil 1' There are different types of Mobil 1 based on viscocity. If manufacturer recommend 5w30.. and the mobil 1 u are buying is 0w40.. yes it would work but still not the recommended oil. My point is it doesn't matter if its Mobil 1 or Oando or Total or castrol.. so far it has the right manufacturer rating.

Of all the sophisticated features that this beauty possess, I wonder why you are only interested in cup holders. What an insignificant feature I look for in a car.

The cup holder thing was a sarcasm... its a very simple thing that some automakers skip. I made that comment because I read in a post on nairaland sometimes ago where someone said only lazy and dumb Americans drive auto tranny cars, that they even made a cup holder for them. Get it?

Siena:

The Audi A8 4.2 V8 Quattro Sport is not as thirsty as the engine size may suggest.

The tank was on empty when I picked her up, I filled the 90-litre tank to the brim, cost £116. I drove from Coventry to Hayes (approx. 117 miles) and only used a quarter tank of gas. Average speed of 83 mph (134 km/h) and average gas mileage of 34.6 mpg isn't bad for a car the size of a bus. The base Audi A8 4.2 Quattro DOES weigh 1855 kilos (that's before extra options). So it's safe to say my car weighs over 1900 kilos.

Problem with an average Nigerian is that they want to eat their cake and still have it. They want a car the size of a Landcruiser ,the speed of Bugatti Veryron ,the luxury of Mercedez Benz S class with an engine of Nissan Micra.. Not possible. This is a luxury car and whoever owns this kind of car don't care about fuel consumption. If u want an economy car u can always get urself a nissan micra 1.3L

Just took another look at the pics...chei...this is how all cars should look like.... Some people can comfortably afford this luxury in Nigeria but they choose to drive a bland Camry. I'm gonna own one of these while I'm still young.... Not when I'm old.

[color=blue]I never drink in any of my cars, my kids aren't allowed to drink or eat whilst sitting in my cars either. One of the most common cause of automatic electrical issues, that are external to the transmission and TCU are spilled drinks, knock a can of coke or similar onto the shifter, and problems start.

I once drove a friend's 406 and into McDonald's drive thru.. got my order and as i was driving out, took a sip of the Pepsi and then tried to keep it.... and voila.. no cup holder. Ended up spilling the whole damn drink allover the car because there was no where to keep it. Cup holders are necessary.. u never know when u might need them.

I don't know much about the car because I have never used it.. But I've driven Nissan sunny and Nissan Sentra and they are good cars. Nissan Tiida is the replacement for almera, sunny and Nissan Sentra which stopped production (I stand to be corrected). Since tiida is an upgraded version of those really good and rugged cars, then it must be a good ride. Its got 1.5 or 1.8L i4 engine and mpg is really good.

U can't eat ur cake and have it. U want the power of a v6 then don't complain about fuel consumption. What u lose in fuel consumption u gain in power and balance especially at take off and top speed. Go for the v6, trust me u won't regret it. As for the parts, I don't think its more expensive than the i4, maybe some but not all parts, slight difference , for example there are 4 o2 sensors on v6 vs 2 on the i4

I didn't say winning the nation's cup makes it a must that Mikel must win, I said it would be a factor. By the way you can't compare any Zambian player with Mikel, in terms of club. We all know in 2004, Okocha deserved to won the African best player, but he wasn't awarded, cause he was playing for Bolton which was a much lesser club, when compared with where eto was playing.

Again.. it makes a little difference the club u play for. In 2010, Asamoah Gyan won it and he was playing for Sunderland.. He didn't win the Nations cup and didn't win the league either. This year its going to be a close call between Mikel and Yaya Toure, they both play for top clubs, but Yaya Toure is in a better form than Mikel and he is key player in Manchester City which cannot be said of Mikel. I wish Mikel to win it.. but its not a sure banger like u think..

Madawaki01: Africa best player....JOHN OBI MIKEL....but seriously, who they wan give, rusty eto'o or na drogba wey clubs dey toss around now?.

Ever heard of Yaya Toure?

Messi did not win the World cup in 2010 and he won Ballon D'or. He didn't win the Champion's League or LA Liga in in 2012 and yet he won Ballon D'or. So My friend, Yaya is a potential candidate for Africa's best player, he has been in tremendous form and does more for Manchester city than Mikel does for Chelsea. It is called best player award, therefore based on individual players achievement, has nothing to do with team achievment. Why did a Zambia player not win the award in 2012

Mikel won the nation's cup where he was a very essential asset, as well as playing In the confederation cup. Yaya might be in form, but at present Mikel has achieved more this year. That would also be a factor in the crowning of the African best player.

Car Talk / Re: Why Do Nigerians Avoid Diesel Cars When Buying A Vehicle? by elektra80: 1:32pm On Sep 23, 2013
Daimler Ben: The main reason why Nigerians (& the world at large) avoid car diesels is the fear of change (which I'm also guilty of). The saying "Once beaten, twice shy!" has given a bad name to car diesel engines. Former experiences with old diesel engines (pre-dating Ikenna's Peugeot HDI's) such as slow acceleration, noisy engines, very few technicians & high cost of maintenance, can aptly be described by the notion, "Once a convict, always a convict!" It would take a mighty act of valour (such as 100mpg in the city, and very readily available cheap parts) to convince the jury (car owners) otherwise. As for those advocating against using diesel engines due to the quality of diesel sold in the market, let it be known that diesel engines have a wider range of tolerance of fuels they can use, some even going as far as running on vegetable oils, as against gasoline engines (in some newer model petrol engined cars, if the pump contains the wrong kind of petrol, the car's fuel tank would lock itself against the nozzle entering it). Also, the scenario of letting your fuel tank go empty is ill-advised in both petrol & diesel engines.

+1 for u. The same point I've been trying to make. It will take something extraordinary to convince a gasoline engine user to switch to diesel. Its not a case if follow follow , or bandwagon propaganda like Mr ikenna would say.. Petrol powered cars are still most cars (by a wide margin ) allover the world, not just in Nigeria, and not just in the USA.
Car Talk / Re: Why Do Nigerians Avoid Diesel Cars When Buying A Vehicle? by elektra80: 1:27pm On Sep 23, 2013
omar22:

Yes I know the R10's 5.5 litre V12 TDI that won the Le Man race is powered by a diesel engine is not any ordinary street car, but the reason for Audi to run the diesel engine in Le Man instead of the normal petrol engine car:

Audi's decision to use a diesel engine emphasizes the commercial success of Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) turbodiesel engine (and its competitors) on Europe's roads. Diesels have been successfully used in other forms of racing as well, as their broad power band and fuel economy can prove advantageous, while in turn, the higher weight and lower rotational speed of the engine requiring new power transmissions are the disadvantages

This wasnt in 2008 but in 2004

And when did I say the R10 5.5L v12 was produced in 2008? The point still remains it costs more to produce a diesel engine that performs well than it is to produce a gasoline equivalent
Car Talk / Re: Why Do Nigerians Avoid Diesel Cars When Buying A Vehicle? by elektra80: 10:41pm On Sep 22, 2013
Siena:

Lol...you'll try every tactic to discredit diesels. If I mentioned 5 more companies running diesels as their fleet cars, of course you'll say they too have contracts with the manufacturers. Which is pure conjecture.

For the purpose of this thread, these companies run diesel-powered cars, because they're cheaper to run. If they weren't cheaper, you're telling me Julius Berger would still run them, because they have a "contract" with Volkswagen? I doubt Berger would waste money, just to satisfy Volkswagen, or give them exposure. Volkswagen don't need it. Next you'll be telling me Volkswagen pay Berger to buy and use their "expensive-to-run" TDI's!

LOL sienna... I didn't say diesel cars cost more to run.. I never said that. As a matter of fact they are more economical to run,,,but what about other factors? Compare a golf GTI to a TDI of the same engine size. The GTI has better acceleration, especially in the city, but the TDI makes that up on highway. The TDI is still noisier (though the noise has been reduced) when idling. People judge diesel engines based on past experience.. its nothing to do with bandwagon Propaganda. Mr Siena.. u love Audi I know. So if a new untested car company comes out today and produce cars with same specs as Audi, parts for parts, same engine, specs, power, handling, etc. then sells it for almost the same price as an Audi.. will u jump and buy it? I bet u won't.. u will wait a few years to to see if they are up to what they advertise and to read reviews from real users
Car Talk / Re: Why Do Nigerians Avoid Diesel Cars When Buying A Vehicle? by elektra80: 10:16pm On Sep 22, 2013
Siena:

True, the Audi R8 Le Mans is not a regular street car.

However, the Audi Q7 6.0 V12 TDI is. And it's no slouch either. 5.4 seconds 0-62 mph, with a maximum of 155 mph, which may I add is electronically limited. Not bad for an oil-burner the size of a large barn!

Audi Q7 6.0 v12 TDI started production in 2008. That is a mammoth engine u got there and incredibly fast. But then a Range ROver sport 5.0 v8 engine that runs on petrol does 0-60 in 5.8 secs. Diesel cars are becoming faster with newer models with bigger engines. But then how many average Nigerians can afford that?
