ZIM DRILL:

when you say pump do you mean to trying to do as the abs does or pumpimg becoz there is an air pocket ?

the jobs of the abs system is to lock and release so many time within seconds to prevent the car to lock in one direction

@zim drill, I believe u understand how abs works as I've been following ur thread. When I say pump I mean pressing the brake and releasing it several times in case of emergency braking to prevent the wheels from getting locked. No human being can press and release the brake many times within seconds, that is where abs comes in place. In pre abs era, drivers are taught to pump their brakes in case of emergency to prevent wheels from locking. But since the invention of abs, in case of emergency braking, drivers are advices to press the brake hard and keep their legs on the brake while controlling the car and let abs do its job. If a car does not have abs, or faulty abs, during emergency braking, even if the brake is pumped the wheels will still get locked depending on the speed the car is moving.

Henry praise: Mine has bin on for almost a year, I have 2 hilux amongst d fleet dat I manage n both of dem av bin on for almost a year;I av changed everytin changeable, pls enlighten me more on dis Antilock Brake System.

Antilock Braking System (ABS) is a technology that prevents the wheels from getting locked in case of emergency braking. With ABS there's no need to pump the brake pedal, all u need do is press the brake hard and the computer will do the rest. This way u still have control over the vehicle and u can still swerve with ease because the wheels are not locked.

Without ABS, at high speed and need for emergency brake, the wheels will get locked when the brake is pressed hard thereby making the driver lose control over the vehicle. Once wheels are locked, there's no way to control the vehicle, this leads to accidents. Many cars on Nigeria roads have this ABS light on and they are ignored because most mechanics don't even understand what it is. Pls watch the videos attached and have a better understanding

Awakulowo: I bought it brand new last week. Pls what should i do?

it means there's a problem with your braking system. Might be a bad wheel sensor. Ur antilock break system would not work with that light on. Since u bought it brand new, take it back to the dealership to fix it, u are still on warranty.

@Dyt, c'mon it hasn't come to that. even though both cars are CUV and almost in the same class... They are not actually exactly in the same class. Acura is a luxury version of Honda, and comparing a murano to an MDX (touring for that matter) is a little bit going too far. Anyway it still doesn't give room for insults. My response was based on peterjero who claimed the murano is better. According to the op, he/she wanted to know which one is better in terms of maintenance and cost of parts... Well the maintenance and parts of the MDX would be higher, but u are paying for a better car with more power and pleasure to drive. If u have the money to spend, go for the MDX

Just check his threads, a good example is https://www.nairaland.com/1391026/nissan-murano-toyota-matrix-which . He is indeed a slowpoke with low level of IQ and I think he thinks with his anus. People should stop commenting to any of his threads and I think the MOD should close this thread.

Reason why American companies like apple produce their products in china is because of cheap labor compared to other countries
Car Talk / Re: Murano/mdx Touring by elektra80: 7:18am On Aug 23, 2013
The murano is better for 3 reasons
1. The suspension of the MDX is as weak as those found on honda cars, not good for nigerian roads.
2. The engine is efficient but complicated making our mechanic goofing with its repairs. My uncles MDX 2005 knocked engine twice.
3. The gearbox/transmission is not good at all.
I will prefer you go for the murano or better still rav4 or mercedes ml they are more rugged and suit our terrain and mechanic.
Don't buy cars because they are flashy and others Are buying them please.[/quote

I disagree with u. Just because ur uncle's MDX knocked engine doesn't make it a bad car. The Op is comparing a 2003-2005 nissan murano to an acura MDX TOURING. I think its a no brainer.. the MDX is better. You are paying more owning the MDx touring but what u get is worth the extra quids u pay. In contrary to ur reasons...

1. The suspension of the MDX is not weak, in fact its better than that of the Murano
2. The engine is efficient yes but not complicated. You need to know the kind of mechanics u give ur car to. You can't treat an iphone the same way u treat a nokia 3310. The 2005 acura MDX produces 265 Hp vs 245 HP of 2005 MUrano
3. Now u talking about transmission. I think this is where the MDX shines with its 5 speed automatic vs CVT in the MUrano. The first generation Murano (2003-2007) are well known for transmission problems with their CVT. Do ur research and u know what I'm talking about.

I have driven the 2005 MDX and its a really good SUV.I would prefer it to a Murano .The only area the Murano might beat it is in handling because the Murano handles like a sedan. The interior of the first gen Murano is very bland compared to the MDX Touring, and the MDX has a 3rd row seat.

Car Talk / Re: Ridiculous Mileage Of Tokunbo Vehicles by elektra80: 10:52pm On Aug 21, 2013
Blame it on the buyers. They don't want to pay for a clean title car. There was this post on auto section about a 2005 Honda accord ex priced at 1.7m. Lots of people were commenting that its too expensive that the dealer is a thief. I mean 1.7m is a good price for a clean title low mileage 2005 accord ex, but buyers will say its too expensive because other dealers who import accidented cars with rolled back odometer sell for 1.5m. Buyers will go to those dealers and buy, and then come back here to complain that the car is giving problem. So what do u guys expect the honest dealers to do... Honest dealers are suffering while dubious ones are the ones making money. My advice is if a dealer wants to buy a car, they should go online and check the price of those cars in the states which are clean titles, convert it to naira, add shipping and clearing, then add the profit. This would give them the average price of the car. It is impossible to buy a 2001 Toyota Camry xle title with less than 100k miles for 1.1m.. But then ask the buyers, they will tell u the price is 1.1m or less.

Mr Aboki: 1.7 Million for a 2005, V4 Engined EoD?! shocked shocked shocked shocked

Then how much would a 2010 model go for?!

that is just about the right price of a clean title accident free eod. Buyers are quick to bash dealers. Just because someone bought his own for 1.5m doesn't mean other dealers should sell like that. This is the reason we have many dishonest dealers who ship in accidented cars and roll back the odometer then sell it to unsuspecting buyers for cheaper price. Go online urself and check the price of a 2005 clean title eod. Then do the conversion, add shipping and clearing and then come back let us know the price u arrive at.

Now I don't know if this particular one is clean title or whether the odometer has been rolled back, but if its a clean title, then the price is right for a 2005 Honda accord ex

Car Talk / Re: Is Golf 5 A Good Car by elektra80: 2:17pm On Aug 19, 2013
roosebolton: Hello guys, I am about to buy my first car and being a general lover of hatchbacks.. The car I have been looking at getting is the Golf 5. The general opinion is that German cars are solid and the Golf 3 seems to exemplify this as I am yet to hear a single person complain about the ruggedity of the car.. and I have also head good things about it been easy to maintain with cheap parts and all. Unfortunately the exact opposite is what have heard about the Golf 4, everyone who I spoke either have experienced or knows someone who has experienced something awesome about the Golf4, In fact the general thing I hear about the Golf 4 is to avoid it like a plaque. Major complaint surround electrical and gear issues.

Which brings me to the Golf 5, has anyone gotten any experienced with the car? Does it take after the Golf 3 in terms of reliability, ruggedity and ease of maintenance.. or is it just another most avoid car? I would really appreciate input from people who have had personal experience with the car or knows someone who as.

Thanks in advance

NB In case someone wants to recommend a Toyota/Honda/Nissan/ Yes am aware of how highly rated Japanese cars are.. I just don't like them. Personal choice

for me I will choose a golf 5 over golf 3. Lets face it, it might not be as rugged as golf 3 but just a simple question... Will u treat a Samsung galaxy s4 or blackberry z10 the same way u treat a Nokia 3310?

I know a lot of people would say its fragile, I don't know much about it but I know the 5th generation golf has better handling than its predecessors sacrificing cargo space. More options and more electronics means more care. It depends maintenance. You will definitely enjoy the ride if u don't mind cost of maintenance. You definitely cannot expect the maintenance to be same as golf 3 but then that is the sacrifice for getting a top notch car. To me it still has the same build quality as the predecessors

this is just my opinion. Others are welcome to state theirs

Dude, I'm not a slow driver at all. In fact I love to stretch my car when the road is free. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't consider other road users as well. If someone in front of u is driving slowly, the best thing to do is be patient, wait for the right time and overtake and go ur way. A lot of accidents have been caused by impatience and stupidity. Remember when u try to scare someone out of the way, the person might lose control and might lead to an accident which might also affect u.then u go tell me whether that place wey u dey hurry go, shey u go reach there on time?

Car Talk / Re: Why Is Honda Not Used For Taxi In Nigeria by elektra80: 9:35pm On Aug 14, 2013
Honda cars are not very rugged... that doesn't mean they are not reliable though. Also when it comes to using a car for commercial transport, then fuel economy and ruggedity are the first 2 things to come to mind. I have seen a few Honda Concertos being used for taxi. Honda civic and city are the compact cars with good fuel economy but they are way too fragile. Accords are stronger, but fuel economy and maintenance is higher than Toyota and the rest.

Most of the cars u mentioned are either cars of the 80's or 90's. I have never seen a Golf 4 used for taxi. Neither have I seen 2000+ model of Jetta, Primera, Mazda 626 (very fragile), or volvo used for Taxi. Most cab companies that use newer model of cars use either Toyota or Nissan Sunny. At the airport u can see varieties of cars as taxi including 2000+ model Hondas. You will hardly see 2000+ model Golf, Mazda, Volvo etc. You might see Jetta though.

I love the horn pattern of driving. It serves as a commanding tool and it works for me always. So sweet the way others become so cautious and step aside for me, including the so-called reckless drivers

so u are one of those that hoot their horn needlessly and u think its a good thing. Some drivers are so blunt they horn even when they know the road is blocked. Some even horn in the hospital. Whenever I see such blunt driver behind me hooting his horn behind me when he knows there's no way I can move faster or get out of the road for him because of traffic, I just roll down my sun roof and give him the middle finger. Then I will deliberately slow down and block the road and see if he can jump over me. When are we going to learn how to drive in this country? I can drive for a whole of 6 months abroad without hooting my horn once. I don't even know how the damn thing sounds.

Car Talk / Re: 2001-2004 Toyota Highlander And The 2005-2007 Models by elektra80: 9:28am On Aug 14, 2013
Really no noticeable difference. If u are not a Highlander user u won't notice any difference. I think they changed the rims from 6 spokes to 5 spokes on the Limited models. Also the v6 engine was upgraded to 3.3 L giving 225 HP opposed to 3.0 L at 220 HP on older models. Base models of 2005 models upgraded to alloy rims instead of rim covers. Most of the options that were optional on older models became standard.... Like stability control, tyre pressure monitor, side curtain airbags, etc. Navigation became optional from 2005 which was not available on older models.

Also from 2005 upwards the transmission was changed to 5 speed automatic for the v6. Older models had 4 speed auto.
