It is sad that assassinations have resumed on a full scale in Oyo. Makinde seems incompetent. |
Odewaleadesoye:Yes. Most of the correspondents don't go into the local places to find out the real happening and interview people. They just publish the immediate causes of conflicts and do not research into the remote causes. I lived amongst this people for more than a year. And since yesterday, I have been calling my contacts, including my former students and friends in Effium -both from the Ezza and Effium groups. And the accounts they all gave are thoroughly different from the Vanguard cock and bull story. |
This is the poorest journalism I have seen in recent times. I am surprised the violence was conveniently swept under the carpet of NURTW. I served in Ebonyi in 2019/2020 and I can categorically confirm that there is no road transport workers union. What they have are park managers who maintain order, tax and remit to state coffers. What is happening in Ebonyi is an INTER-ETHNIC WAR between the Ezza tribe and the EFFIUM people. The ezza tribe are domiciled in Ebonyi -ezza north and south and Ohawkwu, and umuezeokoha/Inikiri in Benue down to Otukpo (Land of Idomas). They are believed to be Igbos. The Effium tribe, on the other hand, are indigenous to the Effium community, but narratives from the Ezza folks and the neighboring Ngbo and Izzi peoples state that EFFIUM people ancestrally migrated from Cross River, so they are not seen as truly indigenous to the Land. Also, the Effium language is not mutually intelligible with any of the local dialects around or the central Asusu Igbo, so this confirmed the historical original account. Now, for the past decades, there have been massive influx of Ezza folks into Effium and thus has led to demographic changes that disfavor the Effium people -Ezza are now the majority in EFFIUM-LAND and have been, allegedly, trying to change the community into EZZA-LAND. The Ezza control the commerce, finances, education -they dominated the largely poor and uneducated Effium people. The last straw was the Ezza's attempt to crown an Ezza king in the Effium community. There was already many layers of implosion, the garage fracas was just a spark that ignited the whole thing. Just study the history of early Europeans who migrated into America and how they conquered, dominated and attempted to exterminate the indigenous native Americans. You can get a semblance of the point herein. The chairman of Ohawkwu LGA is an Effium tribal person and accounts from Ezza corners have it that he did nothing to quell the civil war -rather he was alleged to be supplying weapons to this Effium people to fight the Ezza. Many people have been killed and houses and businesses destroyed. I pray that a lasting solution is arrived at and that the EZZA and EFFIUM finally have the boldness and requisite tolerance to coexist in peace in EFFIUM. It was this Effium experience that disproved my then thought of the SE states as 100% homogeneous. I now know that there are non Igbo tribes in the region, but most of them are begging for assimilation into the larger fold of Igbo and the assimilation is neither coming or they are stigmatised becausr of their non igboness. I am from Ibadan, and I hope anyone gets insights from this exposition and make contributions to quelling the killings and conflict. Thank you all. |
GeorgeTheCoder:So, the so called Yoruba Muslims voted for Buhari because of Christian VP, Osinbajo, according to you? your futile attempt to stroke religious tensions among the Yoruba is turning you to a big fool. |
Racoon:The King used the word, 'HAD.' This set his reverence of Buhari as a thing of the past. |
He should use a generator then. he can contact Atiku, another ex-looter for a Mikhail gen. next! |
Amopeekun:you guys are still descendants of Alimi. You will agree that the so called Ilorin Emirate is supposed to be headed by a Yoruba person. |
madjune:sport betting is not gambling, it is speculative investment. The money I spend on bets, does it come from heaven? Don't be silly! |
madjune: |
madjune:what's wrong with a 33 year old playing bet9ja? A 33yr old doesn't need money? Stop forcing yourself to sound motivational |
Omihanifa:what do you mean by gambling? sport betting is speculative investment, not gambling. gambling is a zero sum activity, but sport betting is not necessarily zero summed. |
First, I thank God for life despite the challenging health. I hope to get money to carryout the necessary tests and medications to figure out the real problems and above all, I pray for divine healing for myself. Second, I finished my service in March this year, got a job in June and lost it in November. I am presently jobless, but I am trusting God for the better. |
First of all, the Lord Jesus for his presence in this community. May his name be praised. For Yoruba nationalism: LegendHero, Sammy07, BalogunOdua, Bolustic (non regular) and HungerBad (RiP). Others: Sisichels (extraordinary empathy/benevolence in the career section); Racoon (He does insult my Yoruba tribe, but his posts are often development-oriented); Ishilove and Pocohantis (non toxic afro-feminism); and Shibaraba ( reality humour). |
Blackfire:where have you seen Yoruba Christians and Muslims divided along petty lines before? please stop forcing an imaginary disunity on the ever united Yoruba. Religious bigotry is virtually non existent among us. |
Another large scale waste of forex on imported luxuries. I wonder why politicians think Nigerian votes are needed for their election, but Nigerian goods are not enough to gratify their material appetites. |
rosskiti:Exoticism has several negative implications on our ways of life. It has spiralled into an embarrassing inferiority complex for many deluded Oyinbo wannabes. Socioculturally, it is responsible for the craze for light skin, western styles and erosion of indigenous cultures. Economically, we are plagued by unparalleled propensities for foreign goods while local ones suffer mockery and mass neglect resulting in loss of Forex. What about education and health? Even the President trust UK doctors than Nigerian Physicians. Exoticism is one of the bases of our pathetic state as a nation. We share similar views on African nationalism, although I do not agree with with your discourteous manner of conveyance and total attribution of the blame of underdevelopment to western actors. |
In sane places, politics is centered on real, development issues that the society faces. Here politicking is driven by the insatiable material appetites of these privileged looters called Nigerian politicians. Not a single argument over how to move the SW forward economically and socially, but all conflicts are about sharing formula and hierarchy issues. Pathetic! |
byrron:Superb reply, boss. I am following you already. I hope to migrate to the West one day too. I already have my B.Sc. |
bayocanny:Okay, sir. I am reading the thread right away. Thank you. |
Kudos that we still have African countries where the rule of law is the functionality. The impunity across most of them sucks and many still wonder why we lots are trapped in underdevelopment. Development itself is partly scientific. You cannot plant orange and reap onion. |
Basalt:Boss, congrats on escaping the poverty cycle. For people like us, struggling graduates who long for a better future like yours, the best way to appreciate your elevation is to complement the struggles of someone like me who reminds you of your past. I finished from OAU with 4.31 and did professional exams during service, yet nothing appreciable to show for it. Pls help a brother with something to start anything. I sent you a PM, but your profile says you can't access your mail. Help me bro. Thanks. My WhatsApp no is 09013417186. |
PuZZyNegro:Boss, pls enlighten me on how to earn via Facebook Business Suite. I know you don't have to do this, but I am begging you. I sent you a DM already. |
bayocanny:wow! Your response really excites me, sir. Thank you so much for the encouragement. I heard that U.S. Colleges encourage cross-disciplinary courses, so I am willing to try out Economics/Political Economy/Development Studies. Also, I have written tons of articles, but I have not been able to publish because my mails to the Nigerian media outlets are always ignored. I am willing to write a long essay to stand a chance. I will follow your instructions. About the links you offered to help with, my mail address is olanrewajuabiodun4@yahoo.com Thank you and God bless you for your response, sir. |
bayocanny:I know this comment has been for over two years, but I am still quoting it in the hope for a reply. Sir, is 4.31 CGPA (B.Sc. International Relations) and a professional qualification (Graduate Member of NIM during youth service) enough to get a full M.Sc. scholarship in the U.S.? I am willing to read like a mad dog and achieve high scores in the IELTS/TOEFL if there are guarantees of funding consideration. I am a poor struggling guy who just finished service earlier this year. I wanted to graduate with a first class, but work-study could be very negative especially if the finances are poor. I am waiting for your honourable and factually frank reply, Sir. |
Ebenezar2020:Sir, Jesus allowed us to divorce our wives on the basis of adultery/sexual infidelity only. So, remarriage is permitted from that angle. |
michjunior:Griezmann is roman catholic -I just checked this. Pls edit to curb misinformation. |
It may be a preemptive false alarm to deflate public expectations or contest the originality of rivals' vaccines. |
Kzinne:you can condemn his action without prophesying jeopardy for the life of his daughter. This is very wrong and unchristian. What has the innocent, perhaps unborn, daughter done to inherit the iniquities of her daddy? If that happens, that means you are saying predestination of action is real and due to this, you cannot really blame people for their sins as they may be under some predestination forces while committing the sins. Things will seem better if we understand that each person bears the burden and responsibility for his actions/inactions. Many Gospel practitioners are also guilty of this erroneous philosophy which they project as part of Christianity. May the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ be upon you and your household. Amen. |
CalliDora1:Outgrow? Since when has cordiality with One's parent become a symbol of non maturity? Your post reeks of intolerance |
godforus:this is a foolish comment. So, to you, only the unfortunate place bets? You are a joker. mind you, sport betting isn't gambling. It is speculative investment. |

i've always known you've been a worthless man. Better look for other sustainable and honest means of livelihood and stop relying on gamble.
