On construction and rehabilitation of roads in Delta State, Rt. Hon Ewherido said it is the responsibility of the State Government to handle but promised to give the necessary assistance by also drawing the FG’s attention to such areas that could need his input.

BusinessGroup Lambast Oil Majors For Opposing Diezani’s Reappointment As Pet'lm Minister by eliteweb(op): 12:18pm On Jun 13, 2011
http://spynewsng.com/?p=290
By Jimmy Lace, Warri.

The Niger Delta Indigenous Movement for Radical Change has Lambasted Oil majors for moving against the reappointment of former Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, just as it revealed that the multi-nationals have picked no fewer than 200 major jobs worth over Forty Billion Dollars ($40B) since President Goodluck Jonathan signed the Local Content Act into law.

They restated their call on the President to sack the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the NNPC, Engr. Austen Onwion or should be probed by the EFCC and also asked that the title given to the Executive Secretary of the Local Content Monitoring Board, Engr, Ernest Nwapa should translate into power.

Multi–national Oil Companies are said to be at the forefront of on-going campaign to stop President Goodluck Jonathan from re-appointing Mrs. Diezani Alison–Madueke, the ex-minister of Petroleum resources into the Federal Cabinet.

The oil majors are said to have vowed to do every thing to stop the former Minister before she “inflicts more harm” on their interest and have deployed all manner of tactics, including lobbying and outright mudslinging to blight her chances of making the ministerial list.

But the Niger Delta Indigenous Movement for Radical Change in a press release at the weekend rained heavy knocks on the multi-national oil companies for being insensitive to the plight of the people of the oil – rich Niger – Delta Region.

The press release endorsed by its president, Nelly Emma (Cross Rivers), John Sailor, Secretary (Bayelsa) and Public Relations officer, Mukoro Stanley (Delta State), the group carpeted the oil majors for doing every thing to frustrate the implementation of the local content Act as well as the determination of the ex-minister to see that the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) which has been stalled in the National Assembly is passed.

“We want to make it very clear to the Multi-national Oil Companies that we are aware of their move against the reappointment of the former Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison–Madueke who worked very hard in the Ministry, she is a patriotic daughter of the Oil-rich Niger Delta region and we will not sit down and watch the Oil Majors that do not have the interest of the region at heart standing against her making the Ministerial list”, the group wrote.

While imploring President Jonathan to bring the Ex-Minister back on board to complete her work in the Petroleum Ministry, the group lauded Mrs. Alison – Madueke for the encouragement she gave to local companies when serving as Minister and added that; “Our people from the Niger-Delta have travelled to different countries in the world to bring equipment to face all these major projects in the Oil and Gas Industry and if they are not given the opportunity, they will not grow and this is why the President who started from nothing, but ending up as President with the grace of God should look critically into the Oil Industry because your brothers and uncles in the Niger-Delta region trust you so much and that is why they have invested so much in their companies so as to help develop Niger-Delta Communities.”

According to their release, “we know that the Oil Majors are not comfortable with the emergence of wholly indigenous companies, which are proving to be key players in the industry and we also know too the role played by these Oil Majors in the stalling of the PIB in the Senate for a long time. The time has come for these oil majors to give a breathing space to indigenous companies which have invested so much to build up capacity for the industry”.

The Movement urged President Jonathan to ignore the gang-up of the oil majors against Mrs. Alison – Madueke and appoint her again as Petroleum Minister, adding that; “Our findings have shown that both the SPDC, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Total E & P, Agip and Exxonmobil have programmed all major projects in onshore and offshore, including pipelines, installation of jackets, fabrication of jackets and oil well heads from 2011 to 2016 to Saipem, Daewoo, Acergy and OPI”.

“These major contracts have been packaged for these companies and this is where they are really reaping off our economy. Even the Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC, Engr. Austen Onwion is aware of this game plan, but himself and others are not complaining as they have deep stake in these companies”, they said.

“Mr. President, your former Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison – Madueke has uncompleted business in the petroleum Ministry and this is why we are rooting for her and to tell you to ignore the move against her by the Multi-national Oil Companies with their overbearing influence on the economy, they are not comfortable with the sudden emergence of wholly indigenous companies now proving to be key players in the industry”, they said.

According to the Movement, “Since the President signed the local content Act into law, more than 200 major contracts worth over Forty Billion Dollars have been awarded to Saipem, Daewoo, Acergy, OPI and other oil majors, making rubbish of the local content policy. The president should give power to the Executive Secretary of the local content Monitoring Board, Engr. Ernest Nwapa so as to halt all these major contracts being awarded to the Oil majors and also bring back Mrs, Alison- Madueke back on board. Local companies that have invested so much to build up the capacity for the oil and Gas industry must be encouraged to actively participate. Let the title of Engr. Ernest Nwapa go with power; he should not be made powerless as this will gladden the heart of the Multi-National Oil Companies (MNOs). If the local content policy does not work, it is going to be a big disgrace to the nation.”

They restated ; “Sack the GMD of NNPC so that the cartel taking our money out of the country can be stopped or EFCC should check the activities of the NNPC boss. But if the EFCC process is too long, then the President should kick out the GMD of NNPC in order for the President to achieve better reform in the Oil Industry.”
EducationPrimary School Teachers Proceed On Strike In Delta, S/s Teachers To Join, June 2 by eliteweb(op): 5:35pm On Jun 09, 2011
http://spynewsng.com/?p=255

Primary School Teachers in Delta State have proceeded on an indefinite strike. The strike action was declared by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Delta State Wing during a meeting of its State Working Executive Committee (SWEC) held on Tuesday June 7 at the Teachers’ House, Asaba.

A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting said the teachers have decided to carry out the industrial action after the state government has failed to respond positively to the 14 day ultimatum issued by the union and an additional 7 days of grace on the issues at dispute.

According to the communiqué which was signed by Comrade Eddy Uloho (Principal Secretary) of the NUT, Delta Wing, the vexatious issues at stake included the non payment of the N17,000 harmonized/consolidated salary structure to primary school teachers in the state, withdrawal of the duly negotiated and long approved Teacher Peculiar Allowance (TPA) from the monthly emolument of teachers in the state and the imposition of obnoxious, offensive tax system on teachers in Delta State.

SWEC-in-session expressed regrets that, 14 days after the issuance of the ultimatum and in spite of an additional 7 days of grace given, “no meaningful progress has been made towards addressing the above stated issues with a view to resolving them.

“SWEC in session views this as a total disregard for the welfare of teachers in particular and an ill-will for the overall educational development of the state.

“SWEC in session is disturbed that with the prevailing situation in the State, teachers can no longer continue to operate within the school system under such oppressive and debilitating working condition of denial and neglect.

“Consequent upon the above, SWEC-in-session resolved and hereby directs all teachers in public primary schools in the State to proceed on an indefinite strike action with effect from today (June 7, 2011).

“Secondary School will join after two weeks time, precisely, Tuesday, June 21, 2011.

“SWEC-in-session urges all teachers in the State school system to remain clam and await further directive from the State Wing of the NUT” the communiqué said.

Meanwhile, the Basic Education Staff Association of Nigeria, BESAN, an affiliate trade union body and pressure group of the NUT has urged the NUT, Delta State Wing to ensure that all the issues raised are not by the government before the strike is called off.

It warned that should the NUT suspend the strike without meeting the demands they would call out all its members to carry out a five day peaceful demonstration in Asaba and in all the LGAs across the state, direct all primary school staff to boycott all academic activities and withdraw all its members’ dues from the NUT as a union.

A communiqué issued at the end of State meeting by BESAN held at the Egwere Primary School, Ozoro also on Tuesday, June 7 contained additional demands by the primary school teachers which include:

Non-payment of 2006 – 2011 promotion arrears, non-remittance of the pension scheme money paid by primary school teachers to their pension managers, non-payment of 2009 LTG to some teachers in some LGAs, non-release of proportions to graduate teachers as approved by the Delta State government from grade level 14 to 15 among others.

The communiqué is which was signed by Comrade Adogbeji Gabriel and Comrade Itiveh A.M (president and secretary respectively) however expressed belief that the NUT will “use this strike to drive home the demands of primary school teachers.”

Nairaland GeneralPastor, Camerounian In Police Net Over Kidnap Of 2-year Old Baby by eliteweb(op): 3:55pm On Jun 03, 2011
http://spynewsng.com/?p=213

A middle aged man who claims to be a pastor of the African Church, Evwreni in Ughelli North LGA and a Camerounian are now in police net over the suspected kidnap of a two year old baby girl.

The Pastor, Mr. Emmanuel Obovo and the Camerounian, Mr. Steven Williams were both arrested by the police in Evwreni on Thursday, June 2, with the kidnap victim in their custody.

The suspects kidnapped the victim, baby Yoleme Edoja and took her to Evwreni where they kept her in custody preparatory to demand for ransom from the parent.

When alerted of the crime on Wednesday, June 1st, 2011 the police in ‘A’ Division Ughelli quickly sprang into action and mobilized its intelligence network and assisted by the vigilante groups in Ughelli and Evwreni, discovered the hideout of the kidnappers where they were promptly arrested and secured the release of the baby.

Mr. Chris Sorgbara, DPO of ‘A’ Division confirmed the arrest and Spynews had a chat with the suspects, who at press time were in the police custody.

The following conversation ensued:

Spynews: Pastor what happened?

Pastor: This boy came to my place yesterday evening with one baby, when I saw the baby I asked whose baby is this he said she is his cousin’s baby. Then I said, well you are a friend and it is already late so I accommodated them. The baby cried all night and I said as early as possible you have to take this baby back to the mother. My bike was faulty so I went out to repair my bike, I do commercial motorcycle riding sometimes. When I came back, as I was in the market place, immediately I came back he said the baby is hungry and I said I don’t have any money on me. He said the baby is hungry and want to eat rice so I went to the market and bought tomatoes and other ingredients for him to cook for the baby. Immediately I got to the market they said some people are looking for me. I went back and somebody else said some people are looking for me. I said I don’t have any friend from Warri neither did a negotiate any business with any body. Before God and man I was there, immediately, as we were there, I saw him shaking and before I could look he took off, I didn’t see him again. He said he went to buy something, I went back I didn’t see him. I said okay let me go home when I got home I saw some people in my place, immediately I wanted to enter my room the bag draw me and I fell, just for me to carry my bag some men came to me and they held me and say na di pastor be this. I said what is happing, they said Steven. I said yes Steven is around, he came with a baby. They said he kidnapped the baby and I said ah! Let’s go now, he is some where, he just escaped now, lets go and look for him. That was how we went; we were patrolling every where until they saw him and the baby in one private school. It was there they got him and they beat hell out of him. The baby last night when she slept urinated all over his body, I gave him soap to wash the baby’s cloth because he said she is his cousin so that after the cloths were dry he could go away with the baby. Thank God the clothes did not dry on time if not he would have gone forever. I thank God that they also caught him, only for,….now people are asking him how did you get this baby he said I am the one that negotiated the whole thing with him, before God and man I don’t know anything like that.

Spynews: Did you know him before?

Pastor: I know him, I helped him once

Spynews: How?

Pastor: I was coming from all-night one day I saw him trekking so I helped him. Since then I have known him, at times he came to my church to fellowship and goes back. At times I pay him visit and go my way.

Spynews: You know where he stays?

Pastor: He is a security man.

Spynews: Where?

Pastor: River land in Ughelli.

Spynews: Please give us your name?

Camerounian: Steven Williams

Spynews: Where do you come from?

Camerounian: From Duala Town in Cameroun.

Spynews: What are you doing here in Nigeria?

Camerounian: I came here to hustle and to work.

Spynews: Is kidnapping part of the hustle?

Camerounian: I don’t kidnap, I work at River land for the past five months, they accommodate me there and they pay me every month end.

Spynews: But you brought this little child to this pastor’s house?

Camerounian: I know this man (pastor) very well. I know where he stays. So, I as work there, my madam is a very rich lady with that little child, so he convinced me that if I kidnap the child she will give us up to 4 million naira and they are going to give me a very huge amount of money with which I am going to start my life and I will never suffer again. That is how I went into it.

Spynews: So, he convinced you?

Mr. Emmanuel Obovo & Steven Williams

Camerounian: Yes, I took the child to his place so that he will call the people and let them bring the money, that is how it went. Unfortunately they caught up with us, I don’t want to lie I just want to confess every thing.

Spynews: Okay, thank you very much.

Spynews: What is your name?

Victim’s Mother: My name is Elo Ugbara.

Spynews: From where?

Victim’s Mother: From Isoko.

Spynews: Where were you when your child was kidnapped?

Victim’s Mother: I was not in town, I was travelling to Cotonou when they called me on the road that my daughter has been kidnapped so I had to come back.

Spynews: What is the name of the baby?

Victim’s Mother: Yoleme Edoja.

Spynews: How old is the baby?

Victim’s Mother: Two years.

Spynews: How did you feel when you learnt that your daughter was kidnapped?

Victim’s Mother: I was crying and I prayed to God and God answered me.

Spynews: Before the police rescued the baby did the kidnappers make any call to you?

Victim’s Mother: No.

Spynews: What of the suspects, do you know them before?

Victim’s Mother: Yes.

Spynews: How?

Victim’s Mother: He is my gate man.

Spynews: The Camerounian?

Victim’s Mother: Yes.

Spynews: How long has he been working with you?

Victim’s Mother: About five months now.

Spynews: What is his name?

Victim’s Mother: His name is Steven Williams.

Spynews: Did you check his background before employing him?

Victim’s Mother: He came with one pastor, that is the only person he came with.

Spynews: Is it the pastor who is the second suspect?

Victim’s Mother: Yes.

Spynews: You know the pastor before?

Victim’s Mother: Yes, he came to meet us once in a while

Spynews: It is alright, thank you very much.

PoliticsMy Tears Will Judge Election Riggers, Says Bishop Erifeta by eliteweb(op): 1:56pm On May 12, 2011
By http://spynewsng.com/?p=110

The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Sapele, Rt Revd Blessing Avbenayeri Erifeta has expressed grave disappointment with the conduct of the 2011 general elections, particularly the April 26 Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections disclosing that he wept bitterly before the altar of God in the Cathedral Church in Sapele at the massive rigging that took place before his very eyes.

He made this disclosure in a sermon during the synod Sunday service of the second session of fifth Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Ughelli on Sunday May 1, 2011 at St Marks Anglican church, Orogun, Ughelli North Local Government Area Of Delta State.

The bishop stated that what he saw in Sapele was a daylight robbery of the peoples’ mandate.

“I put a call through to top INEC Officials, no help came. I called the army commander, there was no reaction. I appealed to the police authority, no help came. It was a helpless and hopeless situation. I saw mass thumb printing of ballot papers taking place, there was no help in sight. In frustration, I went to the cathedral church in Sapele, knelt at the chancel and wept before the altar of God”, he said, adding that his tears will not go in vain.

“All those who conspired to rob the people of their popular mandate will answer before man and God. My tears will not go in vain. Those who rigged the April 26, 2011 Gubernatorial and house of assembly elections will not escape God punishment”, the bishop declared.

Bishop Erifeta who decried the vanity of man’s material possessions, urged Christians who think they cannot do without rigging to quit politics instead of bringing shame to the name of God, thereby incurring God’s wrath.

“I am saddened at the conduct of many so- called Christians during the elections. INEC in Delta State had a poor outing. It was a thing of shame to see supposed Christians colluding with INEC officials and the police to win elections at all cost “, he added.

The Bishop who preached on the synod theme: Do the work of the Lord now that it is day before the night comes”, with text from John 9:4, charged the people of God to put God first in all they do so that His name can be honoured in their lives.

Bishop Erifeta, whose sermon held the congregation with electrifying suspense, asked Christians to be committed to the gospel of Christ, works of righteousness and labour of love so as to promote the name of Christ among the heathens.

The synod was presided over by the new bishop of Ughelli Diocese, the Rt Revd Cyril Odiboroghene Odutemu JP, with dignitaries from all walks of life in attendance including the Ohworode of Olomu kingdom, H.R.M Ogbon Ogoni Oghoro I; whom the bishop proclaimed a Royal Canon due to his commitment to God’s works; the Ovie of Ewu among others.
PoliticsOmo Agege Betrayed by eliteweb(op): 3:20pm On Apr 04, 2011
http://spynewsng.com/?p=122

Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, the governorship candidate of ACN in Delta has been betrayed. The traitors were his personal aides and beneficiaries who have now defected to the camp of Omo-Agege’s arch political rival, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Among those who are on the queue of defectors are his one time personal aide and confidential secretary Mr. Jaro Movudu Egbo and Chief Chris Emaye – Obiuwevbi.

Spynews also learnt that a host of other parasitic political dreamers who anchored their political fortune on the successes of Ovie Omo-Agege have faithlessly also defected, some to Uduaghan’s side others to camps where they are convinced they could realize their dreams.

The most disturbing of the defectors is Jaro Egbo who lately caused to publish his decision to resign from the office of the secretary to the ACN in Delta, a party on which platform his former boss is contesting the governorship election.

In the words of Williams Skakespear in reference to the betrayal of even Brutus whom Caesar had conquered, pardoned and trusted, “and when but Caesar saw him stab, ingratitude more than traitors arms vanquished him and then burst his mighty heart.”

Thus the public declaration of divorce of the relationship that existed between Jaro Egbo and Ovie Omo-Agege has become an issue of discussion in political circles.

Spynews investigation revealed that Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege actually inherited Mr. Jaro Egbo’s stewardship from Chief Ighoyota Amori when the latter was the chairman of Urhobo Political Forum and the former was his secretary.

How Egbo became the secretary to the UPF we learnt was the handiwork of Chief Austin Uloho when he (Uloho) was the President General of Ughelli Descedants Union (UDU) and the young Barr. Egbo just fresh from the university was made to serve under the UDU chairman who later recommended him to Amori in the days of the birth of the UPF.

It was Amori who later recommended Barr. Egbo to Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege when the governorship candidate was an S.A to Ibori, Commissioner and SSG during the Ibori administration. Upon this nexus they were bonded until recently when Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege attempted and is still involved in the governorship race of Delta State.

In the period before the rerun election, Barr. Jaro Egbo had become so intimate and closed knit to Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege to the extent that no important decision was taken without Egbo’s input being considered. He even arrogated to himself the title of Chief of Staff (COS) to the guber candidate. He was the chief coordinator and supervisor of all operations that concerned the Omo-Agege political drive. He was even appointed as the secretary to the ACN in Delta State in the plot for plan ‘B’ in case the dive into the RPN was hurtful and preparation for a take off ground for the April governorship election challenge.

Considering the height Barr. Jaro Egbo had climbed in the political hierarchy of Ovie Omo-Agege it is not clear why he chosed to rebel against his master and go into alliance with his boss’ arch rivals.

Unless as alleged, there has really been no schism between the political formation of Ovie Omo-Agege and Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan as the duo are said to be part and parcel of the Ibori political dynasty and have covertly been working together, one cannot fathom out why Barr. Jaro Egbo has gone back to his vomit.

Spynews learnt that Barr. Jaro Egbo has now secured the office of publicity secretary to the Chief Ighoyota Amori campaign organization for the senate seat of Delta Central. Sources informed that the same Jaro Egbo were among those who jubilated when Chief Ighoyota Amori was assaulted in Ughelli during one of his consultation visit in respect of his senatorial ambition.

Spynews gathered that before, during and after the rerun election, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege received a series of complaints over arrogance, greed and alleged fraudulent behaviour of his persona aide, Barr. Jaro Egbo.

It was also alleged that Mr. Egbo was in subordinate to leaders of the political camp such that those who meant business resolved to deal with the principal directly.

These accusations we were told largely contributed to the dismal performance of Ovie Omo-Agege during the rerun election.

Recently it was alleged that Barr. Egbo Jaro was involved in electoral malpractice when he attempted to substitute the name of one of the ACN aspirants for another, a discovery that led to physical violence at the Wellington Hotel, Effurun during the party primaries.

These accusations forced Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege to reconsider reconstituting the campaign organization, a process which removed most of the executive powers from the hands of Barr. Egbo Jaro.

Other defectors like Chief Chris Emaye Obuiwerbi and Hon. Julius Akpovoka have indicated clear reasons for their action.

Our source disclosed that Ominimini was angered by an obvious support of their principal for Hon. Friday Onodjae against his interest to be chosen as candidate of the ACN to fly the flag of the party in the DTHA seat race in Ughelli constituency I.

In response to the alleged action of Omo-Agege, Chief Obiuwevwi left the party and secured the ticket in the Accord party and is presently poised for a combat with his former boss.

The interesting part of the issue is that this defector is accused of disparaging his former boss with unprintable language and boasting that Omo-Agege would see no political light.

To cap it all, he and Barr. Egbo Jaro are now active members of the PDP and have been noticed in several meetings of the PDP where plans for the re-election of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and other PDP candidates are discussed.

By this development the camp of Ovie Omo-Agege may be in jeopardy if the defectors spill the beans about the Agege camp to the PDP.

But in the opinion of Chief Austin Uloho, “in politics there are no permanent friends no permanent enemies.” He said the event that led to the various primaries certain persons were not happy and that the experience was not perculiar to the ACN. In the process the serious ones got it and the unserious did not get it.

“Peradventure they are grieved it is only proper, it is normal and they are free to take whatever position they want to but the bead that is in it is if you are leaving your party which you believe you actually belong to as an individual you don’t go saying negative things about your party because what you say about your party you are leaving was also the same thing you said about this same party you left sometime ago and you are back to the party. Those things you said that made you leave that party have they changed? Are you not likely to leave that party for another party again? I think they should just shut up and concentrate on whatever they want to do but saying things that are not real, imaginary, blackmail; we know they are the order of politics but people are no longer fooled in matters like that and I just think that they should shut up and do whatever thing they are doing so that people don’t see them in a negative way. It is proper they caution themselves.”

Asked if their defection would have any negative consequences on the ambition of Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, Chief Uloho relorted, “how will it have? Well it depends on what they think they know of him. The truth of the matter is what you know of a man depends on what you think you know of him. Omo-Agege is a candidate to beat. He is one man that is there for the Urhobo nation. You may not appreciate his qualities. He has been in government before, he has done a lot of things for the Urhobo people. If he goes back there I am sure the Urhobos will appreciate him more because he will do more for them and Delta State in general.”

He advised Jaro Egbo whom he referred to as his son to go on and do whatever thing he wants to do so long it suits his interest.
PoliticsUduaghan Under Attack by eliteweb(op): 3:14pm On Apr 04, 2011
Inspite of its acclaimed visionary leadership, the Uduaghan regime’s ambition for a second term is under attack. The professed laudable 3 – point agenda of the governor is being rated significantly unimpressive and the overall performance of the role of a government to its citizenry has also been evaluated as derelict. Pointers from recent development at the legal and political circles obviously elucidate at the significant threat to the second term ambition of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan who desires, upon re-election in the April polls, to consolidate on his regime’s acclaimed achievements for the benefit of Deltans. It would be recalled that the governor recently approached the Federal High Court sitting in Asaba with a prayer for the court to grant him tenure elongation of fresh four years following his victory and in the Delta rerun election held on January 6, and subsequent swearing in on January 10. PDP pundits were in high spirits that the governor would secure another victory at the court and put to rest, the agitation of other political actors to wrest power from Governor Uduaghan. Some PDP chieftains even asserted that Governor Uduaghan will stay in office beyond May 29, 2011 based on the conviction that they would secure victory at the Federal High Court, Asaba. “Don’t worry, there will be no governorship election in Delta” a PDP chieftain in Ughelli South who is a member of the Delta State House of Assembly was quoted as saying when confronted with the need for a change in the leadership of Delta State. But the Hon. Justice Buba Ibrahim, Judge of the Federal High Court, Asaba launched the first missile on Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan when he dismissed the suit filed by the governor. This salvo, Spynews gathered has debilitated and lowered the morale of the Uduaghan regime and consequently reduced its gust for a second term bid. Paradoxically, Governor Uduaghan is not bugged as he goes on campaigning to the citizens on the need to re-elect him and secure a better future. In the process, the PDP which had been engrossed in controversies over who, of the party aspirants should be candidate for the various elective positions and on which platform the governor surfs was to be hit by another bullet when the mother of Chief Ighoyota Amori, the Uduaghan favoured candidate for the Delta Central Senatorial District race was kidnapped. There had been series of complaints on how Chief Amori emerged as the candidate for Delta Central Senate race on the platform of the PDP, but the obvious, which was interpreted as the handiwork of the governor could not be resisted and thus aggrieved members of the party bore their pains in silence. Investigation revealed that the decision by the governor to back Amori for the political contest was borne from the conviction that Amori being a political heavy weight would reciprocate his support for him in the governorship race. To that extent it was alleged that Governor Uduaghan lent every support including financial assistance to Chief Amori for the Senate race. The kidnap of Amori’s mother has been interpreted by critics as another ugly uppercut on Governor Uduaghan especially as the abductors of the old woman are said to have demanded that Amori should step down from the race and as well part with half of the money Governor Uduaghan allegedly gave to Amori to prosecute the Senate race. Although Amori has acknowledged the demand of the kidnappers, he has proven his gut when he declared out right that he would not step down from the race, even at the risk of his mother in the hands of the heartless kidnappers. Critics have examined the position of Amori and said that he (Amori) acted true to type because he was not a push over. But the psychological impact, we learnt, would significantly impact negatively on the composure of Chief Amori who is one of the lever for Uduaghan’s anticipated victory in the April lection. “If Amori cannot compose himself it will also affect Governor Uduaghan because the potential for mass mobilization will be weakened” a source said. Another source doubted if Amori’s mother was really kidnapped or that he (Chief Amori) is privy to the arrangement and plots to use the opportunity to extort money from Governor Uduaghan and prove his worth to his Urhobo kinsmen that he is a patriotic Urhobo son that he professes. The situation has increasingly become complex as the opposition intensify campaigns against Governor Uduaghan especially with most of the opposition principals being defected members of the PDP. A PDP chieftain who spoke to Spynews on the condition of anonymity said although there is slim hope in the chances of Uduaghan being re-elected, they (PDP chieftain) cannot quit the party because there is no vacancy for them in the camp of Great Ogboru and that is why they have chosen to remain and work for themselves and their future. They lamented that the governors style of leadership has incapacitated most of his die-hard supporters who would have been there for him at this critical time but whom he has either relieved of their offices or made vulnerable to political visititudes of hurtful experience. In the face of this the popularity of the opposition is growing by the day as indicated in the swelling number of followers of Great Ogboru as his campaign trains moves across the State. The lack of faith in the Uduaghan re-election project is graphically expressed in the Governor’s threat to his followers who could possibly defect on the 11th hour when he (Uduaghan) invoked the Holy Ghost Fire on them in a rally he held at Ozoro. If any attack would be fatal, it would be the last cut that the governor’s remaining faithful would launch when the chips are down but as a buffer, the governor has taken consolation in the recent decamp of some members and close associates of Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege and Chief Young Igbrude to join his camp to work for his re-election. But sources told Spynews that the weights of those who have rejoined with the governor are insignificant and cannot tilt the balance. The worst attack which the governor fears is the expected Appeal Court judgment on the January 6, re-run election. Unreliable sources confided in Spynews that the judgment may be delivered before the April 26, 2011 date of the governorship election and by the feelers from stakeholders, the governor may not be lucky enough, and if the verdict of the court does not favour him, then it would have been much ado about nothing.

Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, the DPP candidate or the April general election in Delta has asserted that he is the next governor in waiting.

He made the claim in Agbor, Friday, March 11th during the flag off of his gubernatorial campaign.

The event which held at the open field behind College of Education, Agbor in Ika South LGA attracted a mammoth crowd of distinguished personalities who sang, danced and chorused, “Ogboru you are the people’s choice.”

The campaign train was received by the state DPP chairman, Chief Fidelis Tilije and Chief Frank Kokori among others at 3:15pm.

The order of arrival of those who graced the occasion ran thus: House of Assembly candidates arrived first to receive candidates for the House of Reps who in turn received candidates for the Senate. The Senators to be received the State Chairman of the party who in turn welcome the deputy governor and the combine dignitaries received the governorship candidate at 3:15pm.

Delegates from the 25 LGAs across the state were represented at the occasion. Chief Tony Ezeagwu took time to greet all members of the DPP in their various canopies expressing gratitude to them for their support during the January 6, rerun election. He used the opportunity to charge all Deltans to reaffirm their support to the party in the April general elections.

Taking turn to speak, Chief Frank Kokori also commended the support Deltans gave to the DPP during the January 6, rerun election saying that the “People’s General” will be sworn in as governor before May 29, based on the expected outcome of the election petition before the tribunal in respect of the January 6, rerun election because “we have very weighty evidence to prove that the DPP won the rerun election.”

He said the PDP was declared winner of the rerun election due to the instrument of INEC that rigged the election in favour of Dr. Emmanuel Uduagahn.

“What the DPP lost through the instrument of INEC will be reclaimed by the full force of law as our evidence is authentic to reclaim the mandate in court” he assured.

Mr. Olisa emeka Akamubale, the deputy national chairman of the DPP at the rostrum then presented the party flag to Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru as the flag bearer of the DPP in the April governorship race in Delta State.

He also declared the commencement of campaigns by the DPP various elective positions open.

“I am here again to end the Ibori/Uduaghan bad government” Ogboru said when he began to speak.

He identified voters’ registration as the major problem that militated against Deltans in the rerun election. But assured that by the opportunity provided Deltans during the recent registration exercise, the DPP will claim all elective posts in Delta State.

“Even the fish in the river who voted Uduaghan during the just concluded rerun election will only vote Uduaghan to govern them in the marine world and not on this earth again.”

He advised governor Uduaghan to join the DPP so that together they could move Delta State forward.

He later presented flags to candidates in the various elective positions starting from the Senate the House of Reps to House of Assembly and excepting those candidates whose candidacy is yet to be determined by the courts.

He said the DPP has respect for court order and will do what is right when the cases have been decided by the courts, assuring that when that was done, such candidates would receive the full support of the party.
