The players in question were eligible to obtain Congolese nationality of which their government granted them that as opposed to holding them from birth.

The primary requirement for FIFA regarding that is nationality is a passport of that nation. If that is the case from FIFA's end they have to then verify if they met the parental, birth or residency link according to their guidelines in my last point.

I can now see why IELTS and TOEFL are required for Nigerians trying to study abroad, smh.

I've heard all the arguments but what is still making me skeptical of the chances of the petition succeeding is whether FIFA concerns itself with national laws.

Plus these same players featured in the recent AFCON highlighting the confidence of the Congolese FA that the players were duly cleared.

Believe me I'll be the happiest Nigerian if the petition is ruled in our favour but one has to be realistic.

I don't know if you're trying to create your own happiness while looking down on Nigeria's petition before fifa.

See countries that strictly prohibit dual citizenship do not and will not issue a passport to someone holding another nationality unless that person first formally renounces their foreign citizenship including Congo . These countries enforce single citizenship to ensure sole allegiance.

I thought I would see congo constitution from you on dual citizenship. Children born abroad to Congolese parents can retain dual citizenship until their 21st birth which they have 12 months to renounce foreign citizenship.


The legal position is clear on this, Congo constitution does not allow dual citizenship for adults. Citizenship is technically lost if a person acquires another nationality.

Go to DRC Congo during elections and you will know that they don't joke with dual citizenship. I can't remember the particular court case before their last presidential election. No special treatment.

Allow FIFA deicide na.

Nff lawyers both home and abroad won’t be silly not to spot any error from dr Congo and go ahead to file a complaint against dem ..they must have a concrete evidence to do dt . Let’s wait for fifa verdict.

Residence permit is permit. It does not mean I must reside in your country for five years at a stretch. Such laws can easily be satisfied. Countries plan to win world cup ten years before they win it.

This thing is a simple point. It's not about whether they have father, mother or grandparents or ancestors from Congo. Dual citizenship is the issue. Congolese law prohibits it. And then Nigeria alleges that Congo DR used players of dual citizenship and therefore used ineligible players.

Some people argue to say ooh but Congo DR issued them passports. But then just as the soccernittygritty guy analyzed by way of extending such an argument: are we saying that just because MRI scan certificates are presented, that suffices? Ought we not to confirm if indeed such players are within the age bracket?

By parity of reasoning, the fact that Congo DR issued them passport is of no moment. The crux of the matter is are these players dual citizens or not. If they are. They are not Congolese citizens and therefore not eligible to play for Congo.
