TheGoodJoe:
I have no problem with that. My point is that a lot of people followed Euro leagues in the 90's. Even though it is a few percentage, that few percentage is a big number of people.
The statement that people claiming that they followed Euro leagues in the nineties is true.
It might not be a large percentage but they were those following.
Arguing that a lot of people did not have access does not change the point that there were people following. Baba ye mu iro le |

Learn from those who witnessed something and stop sharing ignorance. You were the one who sparked the debate that it was a lie that people followed euro leagues in the nineties. ykalhaji: Mr man, everybody is different. My first soccer game of importance, was a game in Tunisia 94, where I think Yekinni scored a beautiful goal, the one in which he "height"(like we used to say then) the goal keeper in a one on one situation and then he finished it with his head, I was 8 years then. After that we played Ivory Coast, that one ended in penalty, I remember thinking the Ivory Coast team was better than the super eagles then. The Zambia game I only got the last few minutes because of NEPA. Fast forward to USA 94, by then I had already understood the concept of Soccer, the important players, Maradona, Batistuta before the game started and during the game, the names Mustapha Haji, Roberto and Dino Baggio, Martin Darlene, Bebeto, Romario, Dunga, LaLas, Escobar and a host of others. So Mr man, every childs comprehension is different the other. Go and read my reply to M7even post |

M7even: I was 7 years old at the 98' World Cup. That was about my class as well. I was a precocious chap. Followed Nigeria match all through the World Cup. I stumbled upon Brazil playing one day in the group stage. Beautiful football I was attracted to. I immediately sat down that to enjoy a high scoring side, free flowing football that mesmerized my bubbling heart. I'd watch delima Ronaldo display his skills and run on to the Sandy field at oshodi to display my skills with my age groups. Sadly I was 7 no one around me at that point like an age mate to discuss this with. All I did was yearn to listen to adults talk football. At Korea Japan I was in kings college Lagos then. I'd leave the class room to the house masters window to peep and watch the beautiful game. At that point I was a master of the game amongst my colleagues. Wider football knowledge and was barely matched in football and sports by any colleague. My academics performance dwindled, my mum was so worried she needed take drastic actions, hence, she would beat me if I played football let alone watch football. I struggled with this as I just loved the game. This really killed my intense interest in the game. All dis things are normal,I love d game too..d question is at ur age den could u differentiate each players position like u do now Differentiate BTW a LWB from LB judging @ d formation switch from 4-5-1 to 3-5-2,identify each formations teams were using d likes 3-6-1,4-1-4-1,4-3-3, and tactical switch, when a coach makes tactical change when his team is one man down(a child of den would think he changed d player because he was tired or injured) I could remember a scenario during Atlanta 96 when KANU scored,he expected d game to play on,and he was surprise d referee blew d end of d game.he was later tutored abt d "golden gold rule" den same age of @7 Just like boss mujtahilda will say,at DT age den u belong to d class of who score, who dribble and not having comprehensive in depth analysis of d game So any oda moniker claiming to knw what he/she understand what transpired in a game at age 8years below..same explanation goes to u |

Mujtahida: Name the starting eleven of our Afcon winning team of 2013 without checking Internet. I told you that you are reading today's over emphasis on tactical into football of the past. Do you know that arsenal was just a rowdy set of drunks and smokers when arsene Wenger came in 1996? Do you know that as at 1987 some football teams were just made up of non professional players? In the midst of all our discussions yesterday I even went and watched highlights of Owen's goals. Baba come see ugly pitches. The game has progressed. Heck some people calling themselves coaches as at 87 were nothing but motivational speakers. Go watch Nig v England 1995 friendly. Niger used 4-4-2, England same thing. You know why? Tactical awareness was very limited then. So if he says he understood then as at 87,you should understand that he understood it based on the knowledge of football prevailing at that time-- who score, who dribble, who win, shikena Baba u don win |

Mujtahida: See if we had picked interests from say age 4 we would have remembered vividly. Thing is most of us didn't pick interest in it cos growing up as kids our lives were about play. And you can see many here remembering the names of wrestlers cos that was what captured our imagination.
And football didn't have the global appeal it has today. So while Rashidi had welts on his back, parents today give birth to a child and one of the first things they buy is a ball. So naturally you can find an 8-10 year old child being more tactically aware than we were cos most of us, our interest picked up only in our mid - late teens.
So elyte89 it has nothing to do with intelligence but rather with consciousness or what the Germans call zeitgeist - the spirit of the times. Bro,my simple point is u can't analyse d game den d way u re analysing it now or 10years back, boss icon4s and odas don get my point And for asha80,picking interest den was largely on d pitch of play, children den would give deirself "nicknames" of popular footballer reigning den.I can remember vividly DT we do fight for d name rashidi yekini when we want to play 3aside and not an 8year old child or below sticking glue to a TV set b4 a match having d intention to watch live matches as we do now as adult, but kids of today, are more interested in watching live matches, I c dem very well in viewing centers arguing passionately prior to d match, emergence of viewing centers, internet in early 2000,made d sport more popular among kids now, meanwhile those who got to watch it den was thru default, maybe d family is watching d match or ur uncle or fada took u along to a place where dey re watching d match when NEPA took light at home. U dare not go out as a kid at night to watch matches den as a kid.but come area now, even if d match 11pm,kids of ages 8-10 will come and watch ball |

Mujtahida: No talk wetin you no know abeg. You are just making bland, general and false statements. I started watching premiership in 1996. That was the year Arsene Wenger came to Arsenal. I remember Marc Overmars, I remember Bergkamp, Teddy Sheringham, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Peter schiemechel, Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Lucas Radebe for Leeds, I remember in 98 Moustapha Hadji played for Coventry, I remember Paul Ince, I remember Robbie fowler, I remember when Owen came on the scene even before France 98, I remember Alan shearer of Newcastle, Amokachi at Everton, Andre Flo, Gullit coached Chelsea as player coach, gianluca Vialli same thing with Chelsea, I remember Ginola, I remember when Klinsmann came to Tottenham, I remember when Arsenal bought Davor Suker after France 98. And the reason was simple:NTA network with Paul Ogazi, Aisha Falode and Emeka Onyadike used to show English premiership every Saturday. I said every Saturday and they were current, as in last week's match will be shown this week and highlights of all the other matches will be shown too. It was basketball before football. I had no interest in basketball but I still remember Jordan, Pippin, Hakeem and Shaquille O'neal and Rodman. On Monday me and my classmates Oche Ochete, Asor Adudu, Andrew Odeh and many others will sit down and talk about the matches. Heck NTA even used to show futball America on Wednesdays. The other leagues I knew by reading complete sports magazine.
Abeg talk wetin you know. Challenge bawo Where do u get to watch d games week in week out? |
