in my opinion I think this is excessive for a 2 years old... it's good to stimulate the brain but in their formative years children should be taught values and morals

lol foundations (strip, pad, piles, raft etc) transmit loads to the ground and not floors. If floors transmit loads to the ground they will be reinforced, won't they? Floors in industrial buildings with heavy machines are the ones that transmit loads to the ground and that is why the floors are oftentimes given special treatments like reinforcements and ground beam support. Floors in normal residential buildings don't serve any serious load transmission function. The only load they bear is that of people treading on them, furniture etc

the concrete oversight which is your German floor transmits the building load to the foundation through the foundation walls.... in a bungalow these walls are projected upward and they become the load bearing walls

OP, if you cant do 150mm cos of cost, dont go below 100mm i.e 4 Inches.
There is every tendency that if you go below the above stated height, the floor might get broken or cracked easily wen something like say woods during roofing fall on it.

Mr experience, before you start calling people names please read and understand their view first.
first I stated that the minimum thickness is 150mm and that anything below that is a risk. then he said that the site environment is not prone to water so if it's a bungalow casting the ground floor is not as necessary as if it were to be a storey building.... that doesn't mean if you have the resources you shouldn't do it!

Why is it necessary in storey buildings? Ground floors are the same whether bungalow or duplex, the standard for ground floors is the same. You make them damp proof and 150mm so they don't fail after a while.

what that means is that for a storey building casting of the ground floor is absolutely necessary but it's not for a bungalow since the load it transmit to the ground strata is not much... I didn't say you should reduce the thickness of the casting

since it's a 2 bedroom flat, I presume it'll be a bungalow so casting the floor slab is not really that necessary except it's a storey building... but nevertheless you'll still have to waterproof the slab to prevent moisture from the ground from getting into the building

the minimum thickness of a concrete oversight is 150mm (6 inches)... since most contractors don't carry out site analysis before building, using anything less than 150mm is a risk (from a certified builder)
