Romance › 5 Unnecessary Things Warri Girls Do In Relationships by emamos(op): 2:28pm On Aug 05, 2016 |
Warri, a popular city in Nigeria’s southern region is one place to find very beautiful and attractive women if you are in search for one. Not only are they physically endowed, they tend to be the “ride or die” chick that most guys look for. As expected, these girls are not a 100% perfect as there are certain things they do in relationships that are completely unnecessary and even a little cruel. Visiting Warri and looking to date a girl from the city? you may want to check out Jumia Travel’s list of 5 unnecessary things Warri girls do in relationships. Demanding freebies from the man Warri girls rarely ever plan to spend any of their own money on drinks at the bar or club. Instead, they count on their feminine wiles to convince guys to shell out for their libations. Likewise, when they are in a relationship, even if they are truly and genuinely in love with their partners, they expect to get freebies such as salon/hair money, cab fare, e.t.c. Buying Presents for His Relatives Warri girls tend to believe that a great way to get a man to commit is to ensure his family accepts and loves them. In a bid to secure their position as the favored “wife”, they tend to buy presents for the guy’s parents, siblings, and relatives. This is really unnecessary though as in reality, a man’s commitment is never based on how close you are to his family or how much investment you have made financially. Wearing the Jersey of his Sports Team Really? It is not uncommon to find a Warri girl who has no clue about football or who secretly loathes watching the game wearing the jersey of a football club with a random dude’s name on the back just because it’s her boyfriend’s club. Even worse is when they actually have a favorite team and instead don the colors of their man’s obsession because he asked them to Staying Overnight at His Place Every day The Warri girl wants to ensure she knows every activity the man has lined up and so rather than just spend the weekends with him, they include weekdays. They suffer the stress of preparing an overnight bag every single day. In fact, some just move in and redecorate. This is really unnecessary. Moving in with a guy before you are married is not a huge motivating factor for a Warri man or even any man who wants to fully commit to the relationship or move it forward. Beat up the other girl or their bf This is rather cruel but is a common occurrence with Warri girls in relationships. In the case where their partner cheats on them, they track down whoever he cheated with and beat up the girl or in some cases beat both the girl and their boyfriends up. Most of them do not hesitate to inflict any kind of physical pain on their partners without fear of repercussion. This is highly unnecessary, though, as the best solution to a cheating partner is usually to leave him http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/08/5-unnecessary-things-warri-girls-relationships/.

Politics › Dahiru Saleh: "I Annulled June 12 Election, Not IBB" by emamos(op): 10:22am On Aug 05, 2016 |
A former chief judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Justice Dahiru Saleh (retd.), who tied the last judicial knot before the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election has absolved former President Ibrahim Babangida of culpability over the issue.
Saleh, while taking responsibility for the annulment, also faulted the failure of Chief Moshood Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the election, to appeal his decision.
Justice Saleh had in June 1993 ordered the then National Electoral Commission, NEC, to stop further release of the results of the election upon the claim that the election itself should not have been conducted in the first place.
He had cited the mid-night ruling on June 11, 1993, by Justice Bassey Ikpeme that the election should not hold.
The Prof. Humphrey Nwosu-led NEC had upon the provisions of Decree 13 of 1993 which ousted the courts from derailing the transition programme, gone ahead to conduct the election on June 12 which turned out to be one of the best organised elections in the history of the country.
Speaking toThe Interview,a magazine publication, the former jurist fully absolved Babangida of any role in the issue, even as he expressed no regrets over the ruling which led to a five-year impasse in the march towards democracy.
Besides, several lives were lost in the agitation for the manifestation of the mandate. However,Vanguardrecalls that Babangida in his address to the nation cancelling the June 12 election had noted the failure of the judiciary, which he said behaved less than satisfactorily and alleged the use of money in the election as he said as much as N2.1 billion was expended by the two presidential candidates, Chief Moshood Abiola and Alhaji Bashir Tofa.
Babangida also alleged that the election should not have been held on June 12 following dissonances that preceded the election.
Asked if he was pressured by Babangida who was at that time the military president of the country, he said: “The former President did nothing of the sort. There were so many cases, and I cannot remember all the cases off-hand.
“There was the case against MKO Abiola, and it was before one of my judges; she was Igbo, but I can’t remember her name. She started the case, then fell sick and was flown out of the country for treatment. “Then there was another case against him (MKO Abiola), and I had to transfer the case from the other judge’s court to my court. During that time, it turned out that Abiola didn’t even finish the case before he disappeared. Later, I learned he had been arrested by authorities.”
Says Abiola refused to appeal ruling
He noted that Abiola, the candidate of Social Democratic Party, SDP, should have appealed the ruling if he was not satisfied.
He said: “The judicial system was still open, but he chose not to follow it. Why no one followed up the annulment of the election in the higher courts is best known to members of Abiola’s party at that time. “If he, as an individual, was not interested, there must have been other people who would be interested to see the end of the story, but they didn’t appeal. “They were very close, and there were so many assumptions regarding the relationship between the two of them.
“But the point is, in those days, the Yorubas wanted Abiola to become president; he was seen as a kind and considerate man to every Tom, Dick, and Harry. “Unfortunately, he wanted to be the president, but he couldn’t be. While the political blame must be on President Babangida, he (Babangida) did nothing of the sort to stop him, using my court.
“I think I was in service when I first came to know him. I can’t remember the time. But I only came to know him well after his retirement.
“I was already Chief Judge when he was President. He came and met me there, and he left me there. But while he was in office, we had no personal relationship. He was my boss; I was his subject.
“Anybody not satisfied with what I was doing as Chief Judge could appeal to the Court of Appeal and then to the Supreme Court, simple. And I have no regrets, none whatever. No regrets. I would repeat the same thing now.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/08/blame-not-babangida-june-12-annulment-ex-chief-judge/

Crime › How Niger Delta Avengers, Others Acquire Detonators, Explosives by emamos(op): 3:40pm On Aug 04, 2016 |
The National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Mongonu (rtd) on Thursday disclosed that explosives experts dispatched to conduct investigations into the incessant bombing attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria have uncovered the diversion of about 9, 000kg of high explosives and 16, 420 pieces of detonators for illegal use. Mongonu made the startling revelation at a meeting with local manufacturers of fertilizers just as he read the riot act to two fertilizer companies, Notore Petrochemical and Indorama Eleme Petrochemical companies for allegedly shortchanging Nigerians by causing Fertilizer shortages, through the illegal exportation of the product outside the country. Throwing more light on the explosives and detonators in Abuja, a visibly worried NSA said, “The major actors, including the store man of a major explosives distribution company in Nigeria, an accomplice and five (5) security operatives have been arrested and handed over to appropriate authorities”. “Right now, investigations are being conducted and I can assure you that they are deeply culpable and necessary actions will be taken on conclusion of investigation. “Let me also reiterate that any individual or company that operates outside the confines of legitimacy or illegality will have itself to blame. We also want to add that the government of the day will not want to listen to any influence peddler in the society on behalf of any company that decides to sabotage National Security”. On the fertilizer scam, the NSA said, “Nigerians should recall the discovery that improvised explosive devices (IED) being employed by terrorists for their bombing campaigns were developed mainly from certain grades of fertilizers with particular reference to some nitrate based types including Urea Nitrate (synthesized from Urea). “Accordingly, it was discovered that the indiscriminate importation of these items by all and sundry resulted into lack of control and it eased their availability to mischievous elements for use to perpetrate insecurity. This indiscriminate importation further reduced the prospects for the local manufacture of these materials and by extension, the loss of foreign exchange to avoidable imports. This ultimately culminated into the ban on importation of fertilizers to the country”. “In keeping with the commitment of the federal government to boosting national economy, Notore Petrochemical and Indorama Eleme Petrochemical were licensed as the sole manufacturers of Urea blend of fertilizers in Nigeria. Furthermore, the office of the NSA in collaboration with federal ministry of agriculture and rural development facilitated necessary importation of raw materials and also secured distribution networks’. “This move was aimed at solving the national security problem on one hand by easing control of the items and on the other hand, boosting economy by encouraging local production”. “The cumulative annual production of the two companies is estimated at 2. 05 million metric tonnes, while Nigeria’s estimated consumption rate is 1.1million metric tonnes, which is 53 per cent of production. Accordingly, the companies have the opportunity to cumulatively export about 47 per cent of their production”. “However, this office has observed with total dismay some unpatriotic act and abuse of goodwill of government. Reports of activities of these companies have indicated that about 71 per cent of the 2. 05 million metric tonnes cumulative annual production is being exported to the detriment of our national economy. This has resulted in a spike in the price of urea-based fertilizers in Nigeria with obvious implications on food security in the country”. lalasticlala,mynd44 http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/08/niger-delta-avengers-ohers-accuires-9000kg-explosives/ |
Politics › I Should Do More To Reconcile PDP Members – Jonathan by emamos(op): 3:29pm On Aug 04, 2016 |
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said he needed to do more to reconcile aggrieved members of the party and bring the two factions in it together. He said though he had been doing it silently without the media knowing, he nevertheless promised to be more committed to get the warring factions to sheath their swords. The former President said this after members of the Board of Trustees of the former ruling party had a meeting with him at his residence in Abuja on Wednesday night. It was the first time he would be openly meeting with any organ of the party since he was defeated during the 2015 general election. The crisis in the party has polarised it, and split it into two factions with Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff leading a faction and Sen. Ahmed Makarfi leading another. Also, while Makarfi has announced August 17 as the date for the national convention of the party, Sheriff has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission not to monitor the convention. The former President said he was aware of the split in party. He said he had been receiving briefings on the state of the party from its members since he left office. Jonathan commended the Chairman of the BoT, Sen. Walid Jibrin, for allegedly leading the Board on the right party. He told the BoT members, “I have been talking to individuals (members of the party) but not in a way that is exposed to the media but I believe I should do more. “Unfortunately we have been challenged, but I don’t think you should not be discouraged. Challenges are part of life; even in families there are challenges. “There are challenges even in the church more than what may be happening at political level. So you should not be discouraged, and I believe, collectively, we can solve it. “This should not be beyond us but I believe the collectively, we can resolve it. Any sincere PDP members should know that PDP is bigger than an individual. And many members have sacrificed their interest for the party.” The former President, in a solemn voice, regretted the conflicting court orders that has continued to increase the crisis in the party. He appealed to members to sheath their swords for the interest of the party, saying that Nigerians need strong opposition party, and urged members of the party to unite for quick resolution of the crisis. Earlier, Jibrin had told the former President that the BoT members’ visit was in recognition of Jonathan’s position as a former president and to also interact with him and explain the state of the party to him. He said that the party was undergoing a lot of difficulties and challenges, disclosing that there are about 15 court cases seeking to stop the PDP national convention. He said, “We abide by provisions of the party, article 10 of the constitution, which provides for internal resolution of crisis. This provision is abandoned with various court cases. “There is court judgement in Port Harcourt, and there are court judgements and orders in Abuja. http://punchng.com/reconcile-pdp-members-jonathan/ |

Politics › We Bought 4,500 Goats Not 720 – Katsina Government Reacts To Criticisms by emamos(op): 12:09pm On Aug 04, 2016 |
Katsina Government on Wednesday denied that it procured only 720 goats for women in the state as part of its women empowerment initiatives. The government has come under criticisms for allegedly purchasing the said number of goats for N120million. Reacting, Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Media, Abdulhadi Bawa, in a statement said the Special Adviser on Women and Youth Empowerment, Alhaji Abdulkadir Nasir was misquoted to have announced that 720 goats were to be shared by all the 34 local government areas. Giving a breakdown, he said 3 women from each of the 316 wards of the State would be given 3 goats totalling 3,249 goats. “Another 1251 goats was set aside for interested groups and individuals who have interest in animal husbandry. This brings the total of goats purchased to 4500 against the erroneous figure of 720.” “The total number of the 3,249 goats was shared among the 3 senatorial zones of the state in Tambu, Daura senatorial zone, Kabomo, Funtua senatorial zone and PPU in Katsina metropolis, Katsina senatorial zone,” Bawa added. The government had explained that the empowerment scheme was made possible through the N2 billion loan the Governor Aminu Masari administration obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN. http://dailypost.ng/2016/08/04/bought-4500-goats-not-720-katsina-government-reacts-criticisms/ lalasticlala,mynd44 |
Politics › Nigerian Civil War: I Will Reveal My Side Of The Story In 2017 – Gowon by emamos(op): 8:46am On Aug 04, 2016 |
Sen. Shehu Sani, the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, has urged former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd) to author a book on the Nigerian Civil War. Sani, who led a delegation of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) on a visit to the former head of state in Abuja on Wednesday, said the book would tell Gowon’s side of the story. According to the lawmaker, it has become expedient for the 82 year old former head of state to tell Nigerians what actually transpired in view of the numerous versions written by many authors. He said the history of Nigeria would not be complete if Nigerians did not get his side of the story. He added that it was important for the former head of state to author such a book having played a major role in uniting the country in the after the war. “Your silence to us is full of content. Perhaps, if you go without writing your own side of the story you will be indebted to the future generation of Nigeria. “ I wonder what goes through your mind when you go read what people write about the civil war. lalasticlala http://dailypost.ng/2016/08/04/nigerian-civil-war-will-reveal-side-story-2017-gowon/ |

Politics › National Convention Won’t Solve Pdp’s Problems – Kashamu by emamos(op): 5:36pm On Aug 02, 2016 |
The representative of Ogun East in the Senate, Sen. Buruji Kashamu, has warned that the August 17 national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party will not solve the problems confronting the party. He said it would be better for the elders of the party to wade into the crisis by having a peace meeting with the two people laying claim to the national leadership of the opposition party. Kashamu stated this in a position paper he submitted to the two factions fighting for control of the party. The paper was made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday. A faction of the party is being led by Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, while Sen. Ahmed Makarfi is the chairman of the party’s national caretaker committee. Both factions have court judgments or orders to back up their claim to the leadership of the party. Makarfi, backed by the 12 governors of the party, has scheduled a national convention to be held in Port Harcourt on August 17 where national officers are to be elected. Kashamu, who is known as the party’s mobiliser in the South-West, however warned that the different court orders and judgments which have yet to be vacated might end up nullifying the outcome of the convention. He said, “Going to Port Harcourt for another national convention on August 17, without addressing the issues that have stuck out like a sore thumb might turn out to be an exercise in futility. “I appeal to all our leaders to wade into the crisis and resolve the issues. “If we gloss over the issues and facts and go ahead to hold the proposed convention without resolving them, the perception of PDP as a lawless organisation will sink deeper and ultimately public opinion will be against us. “An air of confusion pervades our party and the land, with one division of the court saying Makarfi’s appointment is right while another division of the same court says Sheriff is the authentic national chairman of our party. “We cannot continue like this. Already, the nomination (governorship) processes in Edo and Ondo States are being endangered by the current crisis. “It is incumbent on all well-meaning leaders and elders of the party to court Senators Sheriff and Makarfi and look for a political solution to this crisis and resolve it, once and for all. Nothing is too much to give, if we truly love the party.” Deputy to Sheriff, Dr. Cairo Ojugboh, said he shared Kashamu’s views on the leadership tussle. “We will continue to say we believe in the rule of law and dialogue. If they are ready, we are willing,” he said. The Spokesperson to the caretaker committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, could not be immediately reached for comments. lalasticlala,mynd44 http://punchng.com/national-convention-wont-solve-pdps-problems-kashamu/ |
Politics › Erhiatake Ibori Booed At Ibru's Burial For Fumbling Over Common Words by emamos(op): 5:14pm On Aug 02, 2016 |
Erhiatake Ibori, who represents Ethiope West constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, was today booed off the stage during a valedictory/tribute session for the late Olorogun Felix Ovuodoroye Ibru, the first civilian governor of Delta State.
Erhiatake, 36, is the daughter of the jailed former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori. The PDP legislator’s surprising lack of coherence first attracted murmurs from the crowd present for the event at Government House.
She had been asked to pay a tribute on behalf of her father but exhibited considerable difficulty trying to pronounce even words that were boldly written on the burial brochure.
Appearing and sounding visibly frightened, she repeated lines that had already been read, and then was floored when she tackled the words “magnanimous”and “meritoriously.” The murmurs grew into boos.
Embarking on a rescue mission, her father’s successor as governor and her cousin, Mr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, who rose to pay his own tribute, provided some comic relief. The former medical doctor diagnosed the situation as one where Erhiatake’s glasses were probably not very good. The crowd erupted in another round of uncontrollable laughter. Erhiatake won her seat in the state legislature in April last year, despite allegations by some people in her father’s Oghara, Mr. Ibori’s Oghara community that the PDP had imposed her as its candidate for the EthiopeWest legislative seat.
Prior to running for the seat, she launched a non-government organization, Starlite Hopes Initiative, to provide free ambulance services in the area. It was not clear how she obtained the funds for such an ambitious programme. http://saharareporters.com/2016/08/02/iboris-daughter-booed-tribute-ceremonyto-late-ibru-fumbling-over-common-words

Politics › Empowerment: Katsina Distributes 720 Goats To Women by emamos(op): 5:02pm On Aug 02, 2016 |
The Katsina State Government has distributed 720 high breed of goats worth N104 million for distribution to women under its Women Empowerment Scheme. Alhaji Abdulkadir Nasir, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Empowerment, disclosed this on Tuesday in Katsina at the launching of the programme. He said that each of 240 women selected across the 34 local governments would be given two female goats and one male goat. The official said that the animals, which were purchased in Niger Republic, were of highly reproductive and good for breeding. “Research has showed that the goats reproduce twice a year and give up to two liters of milk daily. “The goats are also insured for one year and veterinary officers will be going round in all the local governments to provide medication to the animals if the need arises,’’ he said. Nasir said that the animals were being given to the beneficiaries under a loan scheme and the cost was expected to be repaid after a year. He urged the beneficiaries not to sell the animals and ensure their proper care. Nasir also said that the government had disbursed N30 million to 1,890 physically challenged people across the state to establish small-scale businesses. He said that the government had also empowered one physically challenged from each local government area with a shop, generator, charging board, recorder and N20,000 worth of recharge cards to engage in business. The special adviser said that N340 million was also disbursed to various organised trade associations in the state, all in efforts to boost small and medium scale enterprises in the state. Gov. Aminu Masari said that the loans were part of the N2 billion loan obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the development of Small Scale and Medium Entrepreneurship. He said that loan attracted nine per cent interest rate and would be paid by the state government. Masari urged the beneficiaries to utilise the loans judiciously. Malama Maryam Abdullahi, one of the beneficiaries, commended the government for initiating the scheme http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/08/empowerment-katsina-distributes-720-goats-women/ |

The Benin Republic President, Patrick Talon, on Tuesday confessed that the downturn in the Nigerian economy is adversely affecting his country and other African countries. Describing Nigeria as the engine room of West Africa, Talon urged the country to explore its non-oil sectors to increase its revenue profile being reduced by falling oil prices in the international market. Talon, who is on a one day state visit to Nigeria, spoke during a joint press briefing with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Stressing that Nigeria remains a big Brother in Africa, the Benin Republic President noted that the country relied for too long on crude oil revenue to the detriment of other sectors. He said the discussions at the closed door meeting bordered on security and economy, adding that his country is looking forward to reactivate the existing bilateral relationship with Nigeria especially in the areas of Trade relations, economy, energy development and education. Talon said his country will work with Nigeria to end the current illegal trade between the two countries. He said: “There is illegal trade between the two countries which is creating difficulties between the two countries. We looked at the possibility of re-energizing the trade between the two countries so that illegal trade is discouraged.” He invited President Buhari to Benin Republic in order to enhance cooperation between the two countries. lalasticlala http://thenationonlineng.net/nigerias-economic-crisis-affecting-african-nations-benin-president/ |
Politics › PDP CRISIS | Sheriff Tackles Anenih, Asks Him To Reapply For Bot Membership by emamos(op): 7:53am On Aug 01, 2016 |
The crisis of leadership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took another twist yesterday as the embattled National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, carpeted the party former Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih. Sheriff told Anenih that his re-admission into the party BoT is not automatic, saying that he should reapply for membership, as the case against him bordering on anti-party activities have not been addressed. It could be recalled that the last National Working Committee (NWC) had accused Anenih of anti-party activities during the 2015 elections. The former NWC had accused him of anti-party activities in Imo State during the last presidential and state elections and in a letter dated May 19, 2015, signed by then PDP National Secretary, Prof Wale Oladipo, requested him to appear before it, a summon which he shunned before he voluntarily relinquished the BoT chairmanship position. However, the current leadership of the party led by Ahmed Makarfi had two week ago cleared Chief Anenih of the allegations, informing him of the party’s withdrawal of the summon notice. Reacting to this development yesterday, Sheriff in a statement by one his stakeholders, Hon Bernard Mikko, pointed out that following his non-response to his query, his resignation remains valid. He said: “The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has been drawn to the status of Chief Tony Anenin as a member of Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP. “Party members and loyalists will recall that the National Working Committee (NWC) issued a query to Chief Tony Anenih in April 2015 as part of disciplinary procedures for his anti party activities in Imo State during the 2015 General Elections in line with Article 57(4) of the PDP Constitution 2012 (as amended). Chief Anenih did not respond to the query but chose to tender a letter of resignation as BoT member. Up till date, the query remains unanswered and his resignation remains valid. lalasticlala http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/pdp-crisis-sheriff-tackles-anenih-asks-him-to-reapply-for-bot-membership/ |
Politics › I Regret Supporting Sheriff To Become PDP Chairman – Fayose by emamos(op): 7:21am On Aug 01, 2016 |
The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, said he had learnt his lessons from his initial support for the embattled factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff. Fayose said this when the ex-chairman of Daar Communications, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, took his PDP national chairmanship campaign to Ekiti. He said, “I must tell you that I have learnt my lessons from my past experience. I will not openly identify or campaign for a candidate any longer. As part of our great party in Ekiti, I ‘m assuring you that I do not have a personal candidate and God knows I have not spoken to my people about any candidate. “We will allow God to choose for us this time by ensuring that all aspirants have a level-playing ground. “I have learnt my lessons on Ali Modu Sheriff and I take full responsibility for the consequences. Imagine, if we have allowed him to get there, with the way he is now behaving, it would have been worse than this.” Fayose, while expressing concerns about the crisis rocking the party, lamented that some people were merely paying lip service to reconciliation efforts in the PDP because of selfish interest. Dokpesi pleaded with the delegates to allow him to serve the party and return it to the winning ways. According to him, since the last general elections, the All Progressives Congress has not allowed the PDP leaders to rest, urging members of the party to stand and defend democracy in the country. Dokpesi also denied stepping down for a former National Vice-Chairman of the party, Chief Bode George. He stated, “Some people have alleged that I have surrendered for our elder in the party, Chief Bode George. Let me make it categorically clear that I was born and bred in Ibadan and I do understand and appreciate the Yoruba traditions so much and so I have respect for elders. “But there was no time that Chief Bode George and I met and discuss this issue and I did not in any way surrender the race to him. I have not stepped down for him in any way because this time we need fresh and younger blood that would have the physical and mental alertness for the job. “I have been touring 17 states of the federation for just about a week now and I’m still strong.” Meanwhile, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP, Senator Walid Jibrin, has faulted insinuations that Sheriff was planted by some unseen forces to destroy the party. He said at Sherrif’s age, nobody could have planted him to destroy a party, which was built by great Nigerians, both living and dead. Jibrin, however, noted that God would not forgive anyone who wanted to destroy a party that governed Nigeria for 16 years. The BoT Chairman, who spoke to newsmen in Kaduna on Friday, said in spite of the Thursday’s ruling by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja, the August 17 National Convention of the PDP in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, would hold as planned. Jibrin, who expressed shock over the judgment, said preparations were in top gear to ensure a hitch-free convention. He noted that the judge had the right to give judgment while the party had the rights to appeal the judgment. lalasticlala http://punchng.com/regret-supporting-sheriff-become-pdp-chairman-fayose/ |
Crime › Withdraw Military From Ijaw Land, Clark, Others Tell FG by emamos(op): 4:24pm On Jul 31, 2016 |
Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State; elder statesmen, Chief Edwin Clark; and some prominent leaders including traditional rulers of the Ijaw nation drawn from the seven Niger Delta states, on Saturday, met in Warri, Delta State, over the resurgence of militancy in the region. At the meeting, which was convened at the instance of Clark and held behind closed doors, the Ijaw leader said in his opening remark that unless Nigeria was restructured, marginalised voices would continue to rise against being treated as “second-class citizens in their own country.” The emergency meeting convened over the resurgence of militancy in the region was attended by delegates from eight states of the Niger Delta region, including Dickson and the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Mr. Kingsley Otuaro. While expressing displeasure over the crisis in the Niger Delta, Clark stressed that dialogue was the only possible solution. He stated that while it was commendable that the Federal Government had agreed to dialogue with the militant groups to halt attacks on oil and gas facilities, it was not clear whom the government was discussing with. According to the elder statesman, no Ijaw leader has been consulted by the Federal Government on the proposed dialogue towards halting ongoing attacks on oil facilities in the region. “This country deserves restructuring. Unless this country is restructured, we (Ijaws) will continue to be treated as second-class citizens. We are not second-class citizens. We must fight for our rights but not by destruction of pipelines. “We (Ijaw) are not presently in the scheme of things in this country. The Ijaw people must be accorded and included in this government. We are part of this country. We believe in the unity of this country. “We cannot fold our arms when our children, women and people are being attacked and we pretend nothing is happening. The purpose of this meeting today (Sunday) is for us to address the issue,” Clark stated. He added, “The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation which is the major firm conducting oil exploitation operations was recently constituted but of its nine (board) members, not a single person is of Ijaw ethnic extraction where most oil exploration is done.” Clark further berated the government’s decision to cancel the controversial Maritime University sited in Okerenkoko in the Warri South West Council Area of Delta State, adding that the governing council had been constituted even before former President Goodluck Jonathan left office. Prominent Ijaw leaders from Bayelsa, Edo, Rivers, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Delta and Cross River States, including traditional rulers, were present at the meeting held at Clark’s residence in Warri GRA. After the Ijaw leader’s opening remark, the meeting went into a closed-door session. A communiqué signed by Clark and issued at the end of the meeting and read by Pastor Power Ziakede Aginighan, accused the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of perceived plans to marginalise Ijaw people. It said attendees at the meeting urged Ijaw militant groups to cease plans to declare a Niger Delta Republic by Monday this week, noting that its indigenes believed that through restructuring, various crises bedevilling the country could be resolved, including that of the Niger Delta. The communiqué read, “The elders and leaders of thoughts in the Ijaw nation call for the immediate restructuring of the Nigerian nation along the lines of peaceful federalism. Thus is the panacea for the sustainable development of Nigeria. lalasticlala http://punchng.com/withdraw-military-ijaw-land-clark-others-tell-fg/ |
Politics › How I Rejected Ex-governor’s N405m Brief To Launder Money – Falana by emamos(op): 7:32pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Femi Falana, has revealed that he rejected a N405 million brief from a former governor to help him launder funds abroad. He asked lawyers not to succumb to the lure of filthy lucre to assist politically exposed persons (PEPs) to commit financial crimes. Falana’s testimony at an anti-corruption workshop in Abuja was contained in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) monthly magazine, ALERT, released to journalists on Friday. Falana said: “The governor asked me to assist him in transferring money abroad, and that I should claim it to be proceeds from sale of his property in Nigeria. “And the price was extremely attractive. He was going to pay me a million pounds then, when money was money. “The governor said he had chosen me for the shady deal, because ‘nobody will suspect you.’ “I told him, ‘Your Excellency, so it is my reputation that you want to buy with your one million pounds?’’ “Some of my colleagues thought I was stupid, but those who accepted the offer later found themselves in trouble, as they were arrested and humiliated. They were only lucky not to have been charged to court.” He advised lawyers against being used by politically exposed persons. He added: “Lawyers have a paramount role to play in the fight against economic and financial crimes, as they are the ones usually employed by well-heeled members of the society to help perfect documents for illicit transactions, and to cover up their tracks.” Falana faulted the ruling of Justice Gabriel Kolawole of a Federal High Court, Abuja, which held that Section 5 of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 could not be applied to lawyers. The judge in the ruling restrained the Federal Government, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML), from enforcing the section as it relates to legal practitioners. lalasticlala http://thenationonlineng.net/rejected-ex-governors-n405m-brief-launder-money-falana/ |
Business › ATM Usage Higher In Nigeria Compared To UK - Computer Warehouse Group by emamos(op): 7:13am On Jul 28, 2016 |
A recent assessment by the Computer Warehouse Group (CWG) Plc has revealed that a higher percentage of Nigerians use the ‘Automated Teller Machines’ (ATMs) compared to their counterparts in Ghana and the United Kingdom (UK).
The Chief Executive Officer of CWG, Mr. James Agada, who spoke at an Editors’ workshop organised by the company in shared the outcome of the assessment and noted that the average ATM in Nigeria dispenses thrice the number of notes in Ghana and 10 times the number of notes in U.K “By accepted proportion, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria, we should have at least 60,000 ATMs installed but only 15,000 ATMs are available to serve the teeming population. The number of people with ATM cards keeps increasing by the day, despite the shortfall in ATMs and Nigeria still ranks higher in ATM usage,” he said.
Agada, who agreed that ATMs come with some issues, however said these problems are overstated. “The core issue we have with the ATMs are that we don’t have enough of them and the few around are overwhelmed,” he said.
The CWG boss, who also spoke against the background of ATM related fraud in the country, said it is not peculiar to the Nigeria environment, but a global challenge that is receiving attention from various quarters.
“As far as ATM security is concerned, Nigeria is more secured compared to places like the United States of America or U.K. In Nigeria we have many measures being deployed to curb the problem of ATM-related fraud. We also have PIN-Shield, security cameras, mirrors, encryption technology, anti-phishing devices fixed on the ATM and we are not resting on our oars,” he said.
The ICT expert, who emphasised that no technology is completely impregnable, said: “There’s nowhere you carry out transactions, without the risk of some likely fraudulent potential. You will recall that the Central Bank of Bangladesh was scammed and lost 80million dollars to fraud which has gone untraced till date.” http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/07/28/cwg-boss-atm-usage-higher-in-nigeria-compared-to-uk/

Crime › Arik Staff Beat Man For Complaining Over Cancelled Flight by emamos(op): 11:36am On Jul 24, 2016 |
Staff of Arik Airline Sunday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja beat a man to stupor for complaining about the cancellation of his flight for the whole day. The man who was travelling with his wife and children approached the Arik desk to get a boarding pass when he was told by a staff of the airline that ‘we have cancelled all the flights for today’. When he sought to know why, the staff told him “Oga no disturb us. No be only you de travel” . When he demanded for a refund of his money, two staff of the airline pounced on him and wrestled him to the ground while his wife and children watched helplessly. At this point, passengers who were waiting for other airlines intervened and save the situation which had already degenerated to a free for all. It took the intervention of some security men who tried to calm down the situation. When there was no end to the free for all, some soldiers were drafted into the hall to maintain calm. Astaff of the airline blamed the problem on lack of aviation fuel for the cancellation. lalasticlala http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/arik-staff-beat-man-complaining-cancelled-flight/ . |
Crime › Mastermind Of Hoax To Overthrow Buhari Arrested by emamos(op): 7:36pm On Jul 23, 2016 |
The Department of State Services ( DSS) has arrested one Jones Abari, aka Gen. Akotebe Darikoro, for the alleged mastermind of a hoaxed plan to overthrow President Muhammad Buhari by the military. A statement issued by an official of the service, Mr Tony Opuiyo in Abuja on Saturday said Abari was arrested in Yenagoa on July 21. Opuiyo described the suspect as the leader of the Joint Revolutionary Council of the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force ( JNDLF). He said that Abari had confessed to other criminal activities which included a threat to launch missile attacks on selected targets in Abuja and Aso Rock. Others include writing threat messages to the management of the Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) and the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) demanding for N500 million and N250 million respectively. He said that the suspect also masterminded the vandalism of NAOC trunk line in Ogboinbiri, Southern Ijaw and bombing of SPDC oil pipeline. In another development, the DSS said it had arrested a suspected terrorist, Bulama Ramat, at the Jabi Motor Park, FCT on July 21. He said that prior to his arrest, Ramat was planning to attack the Federal Capital Territory and its environs in collaboration with other elements of an extremist cell of the Boko Haram group. Opuiyo said that the service also made other arrests within the month of July in Enugu, Ondo, Jos, Kaduna, Yenagoa, Port Harcourt and Kano states. The service urged all citizens and residents to remain vigilant and report all suspicious persons, parcels or vehicles to the nearest security formation. “Members of the public are further called upon to see our societal and individual safety as our collective responsibility,” he said. He advised the public to support security and law enforcement agencies with critical information that would assist in providing a safe environment for all to carry out their legitimate businesses. lalasticlala http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/mastermind-planned-overthrow-buhari-arrested/ |

Crime › Buhari’s Minister Of Interior Dambazau Owns $3million In Real Estate In US by emamos(op): 5:55am On Jul 22, 2016 |
An investigation by SaharaReporters into the assets of Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Lieutenant-General Abdulrahman Dambazau (ret.) has discovered that he and his wife own properties in the US whose total worth, in millions of dollars, raise questions about the source of the minister’s funds. Two real estate consultants told our correspondents that the properties traced to Mr. Dambazau have an estimated value in excess of three million dollars in the US alone. Our investigators found that the minister’s real estate holdings include an impressive and expensive and huge seven-bedroom house he purchased in Winchester, Massachusetts, a few miles outside of Boston. The property cost $1.99 million. Mr. Dambazau’s massive 6,500 square feet home also boasts six bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen, an enclosed backyard, a front porch, central air conditioning, a spa bathtub in the master bedroom, a fireplace, and hardwood floors throughout. Descriptions of the property also state that the “master bedroom has a cathedral ceiling, double walk-in closet, linen closet, a spa-like tub, and a separate shower with three shower heads, and double sinks.” Our investigation into Mr. Dambazau’s inexplicable real estate assets comes on the heels of public outrage that the minister’s name was removed from the list of serving, and retired military officers recommended for further investigation by a presidential panel that investigated arms and equipment procurement fraud in the Nigerian armed forces between 2007 and 2015. An earlier report by SaharaReporters disclosed that Mr. Dambazau and other top military officers were in a panic as the investigation panel prepared its latest interim report. Several military and political sources in Abuja revealed that Mr. Dambazau, who served as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) between 2008 and 2010, worked furiously behind the scenes to suppress aspects of the probe panel’s report that implicated him. In response to public outrage, Nigeria’s Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed, issued a statement denying that the report was influenced by figures outside the investigation panel. SaharaReporters obtained documents stating that Mr. Dambazau purchased the Winchester property shortly after it was built in 2013. According to the deed of ownership he bought the property on August 29th, 2013 from the building firm for one million nine hundred and ninety thousand dollars ($1,990,000). QuitClaim Deed for Dambazau's house in Winchester Notarized real Estate document showing date Dambazau bought his multimillion dollar home in Winchester, MA Declaration of Homestad document for purchase of US proprty Quit Claims 2 US Vice Consul in Abuja confirmation of Dambazau's Nigerian passport In addition to the deed of ownership, SaharaReporters also obtained the Declaration of Homestead form that clearly states, “We, Hadiza B. Dambazau and Abdulrahman Dambazau, are the owner(s) of the premises located at 109 Church Street Winchester, MA 01890, by virtue of a deed.” Our investigation also revealed that Mr. Dambazau sold the property to new buyers for $2 million on May 28th, 2015—exactly one day before President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in in Abuja. The property sale document includes Mr. Dambazau’s passport number A06275929 and is notarized by Amy Kornbluth, the Vice Consul of the US Embassy in Abuja. In addition to the home in Winchester, Mr. Dambazau’s wife, Hadiza Dambazau, recently purchased a condominium in the city of Boston. The property is part of the Millennium Avery Condominium complex. Documents obtained by our investigators show that Mrs. Dambazau has had the property in her name since its purchase on May 19th, 2016. The deed states that the condominium was purchased for $892,000 and is Unit #410 located at 580 Washington Street, Boston MA, 02111. Mr. Dambazau also owns other assets and properties in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja. The assets are hard to explain, given the relative modesty of the salary earned by Nigerian military officers. The minister’s properties include Hajjar Plaza, an impressive building along Ahmadu Bello Way that contains numerous offices, and Lebrex Plaza, located in Utako, along Ajose Adeogun Street, which also has many shops and businesses. SaharaReporters also found that the Interior Minister owns a huge real estate at 15 Dodoma Street, in Wuse Zone 6 in Abuja. Our investigation discovered that Mr. Dambazau often used Mohammed Dauda as a front to purchase several of his real estate assets in Nigeria. Several sources told our correspondent that Mr. Dauda is the chairman of Labrex International Ltd. Our correspondent asked President Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, to respond to Mr. Dambazau’s extensive acquisition of real estate assets, but he merely stated, “I have no information on this issue,” adding that he could not comment further. Garba Shehu, who also serves as Mr. Buhari’s media and publicity aide, pointed our correspondent to the president’s statement “issued two days ago that he would not cover up or hide corrupt conduct by those in his government.” Mr. Shehu stated that nothing had changed since Mr. Buhari issued that release. We spoke to Dambazau, but he hung up on our reporters.
