SeverusSnape:
What do you have to say now?... Obviously, The OP was right. smiley

Falana will not be a Minister.
The OPS prediction is in lock step with the prediction i made just after buhari was declared winner.
Anyone who deludes him/her self to thinking that the north has not created a contingency plan which will be executed regardless of the constitution in the event that Buhari :

A/Is incapacitated to the point of being unable to function due to stroke resulting from him exerting him self beyoud what is normal for a 72(75?) year old man

B/ Passes away suddenly and unexpectedly due to said stoke or an aneurysm

Right now the northern elite are most watchful and distrustful of obassanjo who right now is hanging around buhari like fly hangs around shit. The scene is very most familiar because at the beginning of yaraduas administration obassonjo was hanging around the same way.
The elite are even more distrustful of tinubu. While obassanjo is an expert in deception and guile, (that doesn't take him very far) tinubus game is all too clear and they all know what the frog eyed thief's end game is.

I told folks this back in may and i also said that when the cabinet is constituted, regardless of who from the south (even the southwest) gets what cabinet seat, the kitchen cabinet that sits the night/evening prior to the main cabinet meeting would have made all the decisions.
That kitchen cabinet is absolutely going to be composed by people from the far north and they will control all strategic positions , defense, internal affairs, finance name it.
Where they are not positioned at the top like finance and foreign affairs they will have their people all over.
If a dejavu yaradua drama happens again things will go very much differently this time.
Let those who want to deny keep burying their head in the sand.

"This new global view and animation of Earth's city lights is a composite assembled from data acquired by the Suomi NPP satellite. The data was acquired over nine days in April 2012 and 13 days in October 2012. It took 312 orbits to get a clear shot of every parcel of Earth's land surface and islands. This new data was then mapped over existing Blue Marble imagery of Earth to provide a realistic view of the planet."

this is a waste of funds from Cross River. This is not priority at the moment. why can't government focus on more important things at the moment. this road will be used by how many people? investment in education, health and agriculture should be the most important thing
You clearly have no idea of what the nexus between a seaport,(which the state government is investing in),a large capacity transportation infrastructure( which is this highway and hopefully, eventually rail connection to the interior) embedded power generation, airports( which the state government has clearly invested on ) and a thriving hospitality industry can do for any state , country planning towards industrial growth.
Try to educate yourself on the concept.

The state government along with Akwa ibom is doing ALL the right things.
Combined together with the market and industrial output of the south east , south south, a synchronized pattern of investments and inter-related policies in transportation infrastructures, and hubs , power generation, education, level 2-3 agricultural productivity monetary policies, tax administration, social infrastructure and zoning(town planning) for the next fifteen years will cause massive and irreversible changes to the both regions.

A major reason for the disparity with Europe is that the top half of Africa comprises almost entirely the SAHARA DESERT which, in case you dunderheads don't realise, is LARGELY UNINHABITED, while the lower central mass of the continent comprises the largely uninhabited, impenetrable central African forests of the CONGO regions and co.

GO LEARN SOME GEOGRAPHY, DOLTS!!
I absolutely agree with those assertions but that would not even begin to account for the disparity in the levels of observed ground based nighttime illumination between the inhabited areas in Africa and the Inhabited areas in the other regions covered.
Note that i did not restrict the comparison to just Africa and Europe, large parts of Asia (all the way to India) are shown.
If you looked at that picture critically you would see that there is a slightly noticeable difference in the concentration of nighttime illumination between areas that used(?) to be part of Eastern Europe and Western Europe, i do recall coming across a similar picture taken from space at night during the dying days of the cold war showing how night time illumination practically and much more tellingly, CORRECTLY depicted the partition between territories in the East and those in the West .
The difference is a bit more subtle now and has followed the (recent) expansion of Western Europe.
A similar picture was done sometime in mid 2000s showing the same partition between North Korea and South Korea.

Those pictures are enhanced(to a minor extent) images obtained from spectral emissions infrared and others of mostly lighting systems .
If you stand far behind or at some adjacent angle to someone pointing a unidirectional light source(torchlight) , you would see the illumination produce by that source even if it was directed well away from you.
Lets not talk about unguided light sources( fires, open streetlights etc).
If your punny eyes can do that how much do you think engineered optical systems designed to read the characters on a black board (facing up in the open) can do?

You are very correct..

To buttress your point, Accra and London both are on the same longitude..Madrid is one hour ahead of Abuja, etc

The greatest time difference you can have between an African country, say in West Africa and an European country, say in East Europe is 6hours. And night time lasts more than that.

Therefore, it is very possible to get a picture of Europe and Africa at night at a given time.

By the way, Europe appear like a lion pouncing on a prey..check the pix again! cheesy
The very point i tried to communicate in my post but i,m not sure i got to convey it as well as this.

well ok,but 2 hrs is still a long time lag. Check d difference in illumination bw say 5am and 7am
The difference is not all that much.
Imagine that the picture was taken at 01:00 GMT during the summer period,in other words around this time of the year there would be an equal spread of night and day regardless of Longitude.
Assume also that the cloud cover is rather uniform at the instant the picture was taken (this might seem most unlikely but the science of meteorology indicates that the processes that forms cloud covers are most dynamic and as such a cloud cover might be available in a region and not there after while).
Because Africa is largely behind Europe on the time zone, it would be 05:00am in India which would still be quite dark .Given that by 05:00am in the east , sunrise would only be a little less than an hour away, the difference in illumination levels would not be enough to significantly skew the detail that the picture presents.

I be your guy any day but this simple minded answer (which in any case by any stretch of logic is wrong) disappoints me.

You have been one individual on Nairaland with a reputation for being rational and logical, addressing the facts of any matter under discuss most objectively.
How then do you claim that racism is responsible for what is a clear picture showing that Africa has yet to solve the most fundamental challenge which is required for development? The generation, transmission and productive use of electrical energy.

I might have entertained the argument (had you made it) that the picture was a digitally doctored piece( even though i don't think so ) and in no way reflects the true levels of night time illumination, ipso-facto energy generation /use on the African continent.

and taking into consideration redundancies. Not all generators at Egbin are being run at any given time. Atleast two are kept redundant so as to make do for peak and off-peak fluctuations, as well as generator servicing downtimes.

Also, there's what is called installed capacity, running capacity and generated capacity. What we all hear about Egbin is the installed capacity which is 1320MWatts, that is 6 x 220Mwatts.

Redundancies account for Running capacity while Losses account for actual generated capacities. So in the real sense, Egbin does not generate 1320MegaWatts but if we maxxed to the limit, we can get 1320MW. cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

so op, nobody can throw OPC egg inside Egbin and cause blackout in naija, this is not the 80's grin grin grin grin grin

In my opinion, if Tinubu also demanded for bribe like Ibori did, he must have done it through a third party and not directly in a way that it could be traced to him. I came to this conclusion simply because Tinubu has travelled severally to the US and UK without harassment. If Ibori was arrested and prosecuted on the strength of the petition sent to the US and UK by strive, I don't see any reason why they will let Tinubu off the hook if he is also guilty. Curiously again, Strive has refused to mention him directly in the bribery scandal. Tinubu was probably smart enough to cover his tracks.
That question shows you are a learner. The answer is simple thifnubu is well connected if not a prominent structure of Nigeria's political power structure. He (Strive) has given all the information that is required there was only one man who was the governor of Lagos at the time if you still do not see the answer then i give up.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ikeja Electric, Mr. Abiodun Ajifowobaje, in this interview with ‘FEMI ASU, says a chunk of the nation’s installed generation capacity of not less than 10,000 megawatts remains stranded largely due to gas shortfall.Source:
http://www.punchng.com/business/energy/nigerias-power-generation-capacity-almost-10000mw-ajifowobaje/

Now 15 months after the power sector was privatised, has it been ‘so far, so good’?

Before I say anything on privatisation, I think we have to say something about what led to the privatisation in the first instance. As we are aware, 10 years before that privatisation, there had been little or no government funding in the power sector. Therefore there had been serious challenges in transmission, generation and distribution networks. For us to at least give minimum power supply to the Nigerian populace, conservatively we need nothing less than 10,000MW. At the time the privatisation was done, the highest we had reached was about 4,500MW, and that was briefly, not on a continuous basis……..……..As things developed, it became very apparent that government could not, with other competing areas like health and education, give adequate funding to the power sector, but to allow investors to come in and bring in technology, ready management and of course funding that were not coming from the government. So, about 15 months ago, November 1, 2013, the companies were handed over to the private sector after following a very rigorous bidding process, which was termed as one of the most transparent in privatisation history in Africa, and since that time, all the investors have been doing everything within their power to see that at least they do more to see that power gets to the people.

What are the challenges facing the private investors who bought the privatised firms?
The first challenge that the investors faced was that it was when we took over that we started analysing the problems in the sector. You will recall that during the privatisation scheme, there were a lot of union activities and they refused any investors from coming in to do physical inspection of the networks. For you to be able to plan, you have to know what is on the ground.…………..At Ikeja Electric, we had to start doing technical audit, customer enumeration for us to actually know what is on the ground, and this took time. …..
……But what I want to say is that the power sector is not like any other sector. It takes a lot of time for anything you put on the ground to materialise. I know that Nigerians want to see things improve almost overnight. That is not the case with the power sector – after doing all the due diligence on the networks, we have to look for funds to do all the necessary corrections, we have to look for the money to do all the metering…………..

The country achieved the peak generation of 4,517.6MW of electricity on December 23, 2012. But more than two years after then, we are still struggling to reach 4,000MW. For how long must things get worse before getting better?

The capacities that were there at the time we attained the highest peak are still there. Not only that, the NIPP project has added between 3,000 and 5,000MW. So, when we are talking about installed capacity today in Nigeria, it cannot be less than 10,000MW. In fact, Transcorp in Sapele and Egbin in Lagos have added additional capacity since they took over. For Egbin, Unit 6 was already moribund but has added 200MW to that. So, as I am talking to you now, we have almost 10,000MW on standby. But why are we not getting it? Simply gas issues. Number one, we are not getting enough gas to power the power stations. Not only that, even the little gas that we get, every day, we see pipeline vandalism……..……. .Early last month, we were giving our customers almost 12 to 15-hour power supply, but in the last one or two weeks, it has reduced to eight hours because they said the gas pipelines had been vandalized. Not only that, this is the time we have low water for the hydro power stations. So with the gas not getting to the thermal power plants, and the water at the dams at the lowest level, this is the worst period for power to come from the grid. ………

What investments or projects should customers expect from your firm, apart from the embedded generation and smart metering?

As I said earlier, If I want to give my customers constant power, I need 1,250MW. But the question is can the network carry that? From what we have on the ground now, I will say ‘no’. But before the takeover, I think the highest we have ever attained here was about 650MW. But today, all the little problems that used to disturb operations have been addressed; so that if power comes now, I can assure you that we can take 1,000MW. Based on the study that we are carrying out on our lines immediately we finished that, we will come out with a programme on how to expand the system......

Isn't it pathetic that with just one man throwing an object into the power plant made it trip off and subsequently, that one object cause a massive 1,100 MW drop in power supply? When you sell you soul for peanuts, you no longer make sense. Abi na juju e throw put inside ni? All hail APC!

I saw queues at different filling stations yesterday, hope someone didn't throw stones again.. grin

Cc, Kaboninc, Whynotthetruth, TonyeBarcanister, DearPreye, Truckpusher, Anonimi, Firefire, a beg make una come help me judge stupidity oh!! grin grin grin
I just dey look the idiots all of them.
Egbin LIKE ANY OTHER POWER STATION, has multiple generating units and each of them has the ability to evacuate power generated individually.
In the case of Egbin there are six(6) such generating units each of them with 200 Mega Watt electricity production capaciity, one of which was damaged in an explosive accident in 2006 and only brought back to service and commissioned by President Goodluck Jonathan in February or march this year bringing Egbin to its full capacity (of 1200Mega Watts) for the first time in NINE(9) YEARS.
Now you have to know that in power systems we rarely ( if ever ) run all generating plants at maximum capacity so we derate
(Derating is a technique usually employed in electrical power and electronic devices, wherein the devices are operated at less than their rated maximum power)
Which explains the stated generating capacity of 1100Mega Watts.
What's my point?
In 2009 one generating unit experienced a partial prompt catastrophic rapid disassembly yet the plant (the remaining 5 units) was/were still generating electricity albeit at diminished capacity.
There isn't one single unit some fool can throw a spanner or whatever into and shut the whole plant down.
The people peddling that story and especially the journalist and editor who published it have no business around any industrial environment to say the least of a power station so either they lied or they are just as ignorant and idiotic as those on this thread who bought into this bullsh1t story.

Mind that i do not dispute the claim of sabotage , i am just saying that the narrative currently going around is wackd.

But what do i know, ignorant idiotic people elected an even more ignorant fella as president so.......

What was her achievement since she have been in that Post
You know things especially the once that really matter and are necessary really take time to achieve ,that you do not see the result does not mean nothing is happening but you will soon find out that in spite of propaganda and magic shows this government will learn that hard lesson.
