Escobapablo: i agree wt u, abt d popularity of these agencies world over n d fact that d citizens they protect dont know wht they do bt only fear them. Now d question is, r u still afraid of our dss? R u going to deny u dont know more than half of wht they do? With facts. More so cos u get in touch wt them more often than b4, n we hv family n friends in there that cant wait to prove their worth by telling u wht they do. This wasnt there b4. I know a man who was a corper for many yrs in his place of residence bt was a top ranking officer. Can any of this new breeds keep such cover? I doubt it. I want to say that i still trust their abilities to protect us, bt wht i hv seen in recent times mks me blive that they r investing their potentials wrongly. We all live wt them n we see them n most of their activities is no more for d interest of d state bt for personal benefits. Of cos a nigerians issue. Cia, kgb, mossat, BOSS, MI6, fbi, name them, as much as u hv heard , or books u hv read, will u say their actions r for self? No. Even if they hv to defend d present government or sovereignty of d state, they dont do it for self or who pays most. Anyway. I wish we r talking outside here. I am guided.sorry. There was this saying during the cold war cant remember it exactly now but the substance of it was that the operators ( read spies analysts and fighters) knew enough of the capabilities of each other (that is soviet vs the west) to know and warn their political masters that they(the other side) were worthy of their fear. If you don't understand, its like the reverse of saying that someone is worthy of your praise. The lesson was that the Soviets knew intimate details of the Wests capabilities so much that they feared them and vice versa. It was one of the reasons the cold war did not go HOT. The other lesson you can take from this is that knowing or thinking you know the capabilities of an intelligence agency such as the SSS/DSS does not me you shouldn't fear them. When they have political direction to be devastating they can be. IBB's and Abacha's days are not so far away that most of you would have forgotten unless most of you are what i have always suspected :teens or barely past your teens. |

superstar1: The 3 biggest Financial Centres of the world, do not have oil revenue, and they command a substantial amount of financing of the oil sectors in the world.
London, New York and Hong Kong.
The same is with Lagos. If you relocate the HQ of oil majors to Timbuktu or Torah Borah mountain, Lagos will still always be financing them and the taxes on such deals, will still be paid in Lagos.
There are functional ports in Warri, Onne and Calabar. Why are the importers from SE and SS not making use of them.
The truth is importers are at the mercy of the freighters and the freighters will tell you the port they are going to and the ones they won't go to. Ask importers, they will confirm this.
Usage of those ports can only be possible if SE businessmen can enter into agreement with major freighters to be plying those ports.
Apart from that, it's a very long thing. There you go with that defensive mindset.I never said all business activities will be moved from Lagos.I modified my post to avoid this sort of response. In any case, for the scenario you mentioned that i highlighted, the tax on such deals if any will be paid to the Feds not the state government. You would have to prove otherwise to convince me. |

ocelot2006: Not only the oil coys, but Lagos is west Africa's financial and commercial hub. So revenue generated from taxation and other royalties will be quite substantial, even if these oil coys are relocated to the ND. I said half mind you. I READILY agree that its not only oil (before some tribal bigot jump on my case) but that oil business is tied to a lot of businesses and opportunities (too numerous to mention) that were drawn to Lagos , by virtue of the oil HQ's . IT and financial services anchored in Lagos to serve and profit from the Oil players their branching out to serve other aspects of the economy was incidental. Before the telco revolution, IT firms like GS Telecom, and indeed Computer warehouse made their numbers from the oil cos and NNPC and then the banks and related institutions that proliferated to service the oil companies financially. New companies and firms sprang up to provide services to (if not the Oil cos or the Telcos or the Banks directly then) then their people, personnel. So there goes the rise and proliferation of Real Estate services,Hotels, Electrical/mechanical/Civil contracting firms, catering ,even hospitals and related medical businesses and so on and so on. Its kind of like Facebook's graph relationship algorithm model.Someday i will expend energy and time to document the branching tree relationship. There are other factors too, most readily identified is(are) the port(s?) in lagos. The same relationships applies here. While i have always known this because i helped a friend of mine make connections to people within the National Bureau of Statistics when she was working on a project to use data analysis to explain the growth of business and investment opportunities in Nigeria ,specifically lagos for her dissertation, the reality of the numbers was brought home to me between this year and last when i had to make a lot of road trips home (Delta). The sheer numbers of trucks on any given day, carrying CLEAR AND IDENTIFIABLE OIL INDUSTRY HEAVY EQUIPMENT and other manufacturing industry heavy equipment(some of which were headed for the South East) all the way from Lagos (port(s) to the Niger Delta was mind numbing. Most especially when you consider that these items could have been brought through any of the ports/related facilities on the Eastern side of the country cutting transshipment and logistics costs. I don't see why till tomorrow afternoon, pipes(for pipelines), derricks and the likes would be shipped to Lagos, then trucked all the way to the eastern side of the country where they are actually required. I don't have to draw the full picture for you , if you are as intelligent as i believe(know) you are you can "see" the branching relationships that gives Lagos its 200+ billion naira internal revenue and what the oil companies relocating as well as the soon-coming Ibom port can do for the IGR of the NG/SE states. NB:Before i get lynched, that is not to say that Lagos will be run down afterwards ,it will not , because it already has a head start and will always factor when investment decisions about Nigeria is to be made but maybe not factor as largely as before. All in all that can't be a bad thing or can it ? |

I'm not gonna say GEJ was perfect or that he met my expectations regarding developments in Alaigbo.....but i know exactly what was done to frustrate his gov't, and i'm almost certain that if he had won a second term he would have concentrated more on the South East! True talk. Nice to know not everyone is sold to lies and that some people actually know what really happened. IGBOSON1: ^^^Trust me when i say HE CAN'T! When i tell you it's been configured that an Igbo man cannot raise above a certain level or people, you think i'm joking! Maybe if GEJ was still President it may have been possible, but not now!
We can never be allowed to reach our full potential whilst remaining in Nigeria.....or with the present status-quo still obtaining! YOU ARE WRONG. "WE" will reach our potential in Nigeria too not because "WE" were "allowed" but because "WE" answered the call of our destiny to rise in spite of the obstacles.Nobody has ever "given" the igbo man anything in nigeria and no one will but igbo men have made it to the highest levels of achievement in this country. CSTR2: Given the huge power needs in Nigeria, there is no reason why barth nnaji cannot become the next "dangote" in the energy industry. He just need to play his card well. Believe me if he plays it right, he will make Dangote look like a pauper.Imagine being a majority supplier of power to a population of 170 million people. In ten years if he continues on this trajectory , he will be far bigger than Dangote . He is well positioned for it when you consider , the timing in our National evolution, market need, his pedigree, and market/public perception or should i say goodwill. Energy is something that politics can't restrain, not for long anyway, if he builds a number of 1000+ MW plants all over the SS , SE (thats where the fuel is:gas , coal ) and then perhaps Kogi state (coal) with these new partnerships and relationships he is building with GE,and other power majors the next decade will be transformational . Power (electricity) has always had the potential to be a bigger business than petroleum(baring petroleum exports). I will be watching his progress keenly. |

Lagos mega IGR is standing on the platform provided by the presence of the operational control of the oil industry, its financing and servicing businesses in Lagos. They will not have eight years mark it , i said it here. owobokiri: What is fair and what is unfair? That the manufacturers association of Nigeria is headed by an igbo? How is the head of that pressure group elected? Through members consent or through a presidential fiat? Buhari is the head of cattle rustlers in Nigeria, do I begrudge him? The xenophobe you quoted had to part the ocean to find a ministry "dominated" by the igbos under jonathan, you should have asked him who dominates/d the customs, police force, NNPC, the ministry that takes charge of Abuja, the solid mineral ministry, federal civil service, army etc. . Most of the professoonals he mentioned heading the finance ministry have been there utilizing their renowned skills(note!) to salvage government parastatals destroyed by a bunch of ultra inefficient 'quota system' inepts populated in the main by some babaringa wearing northerners and their owanbe slaves with their nauseously gaseous "come and chop" mentality. . .
That said, I am not a member off the southern groups worried by the destructive results of Tinubus imbecelic political experimentations. When Tinubu-SW teamed up with buharis north to ruthlessly/remorselessly brutalise a weak jonathan ceaselessly, finally chasing him away from Abuja with so much fanfair, discerning minds did warn of the far reaching implications of this odious reality both on ethnic relations in Nigeria and on all the unholly alliances cobbled up by these groups with the eastern minorities to devide and rule. The scales are off now. The minorities know better. With war against the militants looming just few weeks after jonathans humiliations, any student of ethnic politics wil tell you that SW/North has provided the east with pure gold. Take it from me- and I am not consoling myself- by the time this dispensation winds down, those laughing last may not be from the north or SW. These guys don't know whats brewing in the ND. They pushed gentle man GEJ out (an act that will ironically prove beneficial to the ND down the line) and they think that the food through will remain intact.Unseating GEJ in the manner that they did, they have unwittingly brought forward a series of events unfolding that they would rather not happen for as long as the nigeria they know exists.A case of unintended consequences. He refused to play dirty politics which unfortunately is the only way to secure victory around here and for that he has thrown away all he has strived for in bettering Nigeria as a nation. dBard: I tend to agree with tawa89, it takes a level of deftness n finesse to play d same trick on an informed audience, with so many variations and Yet get the same response.
My take in all this, is that it's high time the 'south' takes its eyes away from d centre and develop themselves first @home. It's important we do this cos if not, the 'northern oligarchy' will always play n prey on that greed to their advantage. Human. nd material resource development and control will eventually get us there. meccuno: you need the aggressiveness of the igbos to match the aggressiveness of the North......when the south stays united.....its not a cat and mouse game dude....look @ the bigger picture....most people fail to understand these characteristics of an average igbo man.......if you don understand this, then I don't think the SW are advanced the way the SW has painted their selves......they don't feel comfortable being with the igbos.....they think they are more superior to the igbos because they embraced education early.......and the igbo man believes educated or not, everyone is equal........and believe everybody has the chance to be great.......the problem is understanding these traits.....if you notice, many igbos have been made to believe that the SWterners are cowards and traitors......just two......the only thing the yorubas would do is unite with the south give them their words and in time of battle they would be ready to fight......and the do it.....then the fulanis who u claim are grand masters in politics would be dymistified....its just politics....if you can't do this, then please drop that sophisticated tag......aligning with the north is very easy. Any section can do it.....uniting the south is where the real war is......if the igbos can vote for an ijaw man even with the betrayals and denials that they ijaw people did to them, then uniting the south is not impossible..... Malawian: just how many are the fulani in number? neither are they that smart as well. during my service year, i was on a bike on independence way kaduna only to see that most certainly was a bus load of british operatives being led by nigerian policemen. when you see a soldier, you will know, those guys i saw were not tourist, which brings me to the point i was going to make. the fulani supposed smartness in nothing other than british logistics being supplied to them on a platter just to keep subjugating the south and reaping our resources.
you talked about how the fulaniman lost his power bid to Biya in cameroun. could it be because there was no british logistics at their beck and call? DanielPop: NO they are not. I have stopped them twice. Once during University department elections and also during our alumni elections. They are not smart but what they have going for them is solidarity. Their religion binds them together and as we know you cannot break the bunch but you can break the broomstick. We are better in politics than them. Infact if you check carefully, they plot using the best brains from the South whom they pay so well. Our problem is that we know too much! We see too much and we talk too much! We are always the first to bring down our own. While the fulani's tried so hard to keep a dead Yar'Adua in power, our brothers like Amaechi and Tinubu worked so hard to bring Jonathan down. D mere fact that we even talk this much abt DSS means d department has failed in their duties. Someone stated how they came to be, another stated d names of some firearms they use, i am impressed. Bt d truth is bitter, they hv failed. They r no more secret. Do u know i hear them on d news more often than d other forces put together? Thats a big red flag, thats if their ops is supposed to be secret. Now let me tell u wht i know, pls b patient, dss hv been corrupted, those mostly affected r d new breed, from 1999, not d ones that seperated from d police in 1986. These new breed r those that want to build houses within two yrs, who cant achieve this wt d salary they r paid. U will b suprised how low their salaries are. Dss r so currupt now that if police r accused of collecting 200naira on d roads, they r collecting 20k where they stand without u even knowing it. Trust me u hv to give them that credit till tomorrow. Thats how corrupt they are. Someone said they r thugs, thats exactly what they r. I dont know abt how it is in aso rock bt i do know that there is no past governor that hv not used their smart services, When kidnapping was very rampant in d southeast, some personnels made more money out of it than d kidnappers. I am not telling stories. Dss hv a more strict culture of 'wait for ur turn' than d police. Pls i am even running out of patience. So if d president has reason not to work with them, i will think its d change we r waiting for. At first i thot its cos of power play amongs d forces considering his military background bt i strongly blive dss r out of focus on wht they r established to do. However, i also blive that if they r going to b removed from aso rock, they will come back in no time. Cos they r d bravest n most intelligent force i hv ever known. Trust me on that. U hv all said d rest. I pledge to nigeria my country. Bros people hear far more about the CIA and other American intelligence agencies than you will ever hear about the DSS but despite all the movies, books and news articles written about them most of which is true you still have no clue what they can do and what they do,Same applies here and in every democratic country in the world. The only intelligence organizations that were/are blacked out to the population are those of non democratic territories . Case in point the KGB was feared all over the Soviet block and then more ,the citizens of the soviet block did not know the first thing about the KGB or even the GRU (military intelligence) except that you feared them and did your darn best to never have to come to their notice. The interesting thing was/is that outside of the iron curtain, any well informed citizen knew /can know the top players at least by name and by face from newspaper articles and the likes (something that never happened in the iron curtain)that doesn't mean those intelligence agencies had failed. |

DSS are constitutionally mandated to provide security for the Presidency. e eqipment Not to mention the equipment and hardware:electronics and communications infrastructure and information technology setup that is required for the task of protecting the president. Protecting the president is far more than just about having bodyguards, around the president its more about sourcing ,analyzing, precessing and deducing intelligence on threats, some persistent, others random or deep seated that the president faces everyday. Most of that work/process happen far from Aso Rock and involve serious computing power/capability and expertise. In my former company i helped to design a component section of the DSS'S data center and DSS acquaintance of mine is specializing in Geo-spacial analysis and intelligence. I don't imagine the DSS will just hand over everything:expertise, infrastructure , data with a smile on their faces . |

bonechamberlain: na wa o reading the comments here marvel me. it seems we don't know the DSS should be in charge of a democratic president's security in nigeria, this is not a military regime where soldiers are seen protecting the president. the level of discipline and intelligence gathering of those guys cannot be rivaled by any other security outfit in Nigeria. the security and protection of the president should be based on people with respect, intelligence, discipline and also very discreet and secretive personnel. look at the word used "bodyguard protection". if the president thinks the police and soldiers can protect him that's fine, but can they prevent an attack or prevent an attack without firing a shot? well those are questions for another day. what the president should do is to do a shake up in the agency and make sure the agency remain nonpartisan instead of going about with soldiers and police like a dictator even most dictators today go out with intelligence officers. Most people have no idea that protection of government officials is an intelligence affair and not a military function other wise in the US for instance the protection of the president ,his vice and other high ranking officials would fall to the Special Forces in the various branches of the military. The state security service function :protection of the Commander in chief and Head of state as well as other ranking officials down the line, is guaranteed by law it would be a violation of the law for the president to usurp the function of the Service on his whimsical reasoning. Watching to see how this goes but this tells the story of how his presidency will be shaped. If this speculation proves to be founded, it simply proves that this president has imperial ambitions/pretensions and is not the least bit interested concerned about building institutions that will serve the country regardless of who is the C I C .Former President Jonathan held on to that principle all through his tenure. All in all if this tale is substantiated ,an epic fail for buhari. |

Actually....it is PDP who is the real plotter here(Not in the way you think, before anyone jumps on me!).
PDP , by making the Senate president a Fulani, and the Speaker a Hausa Christian .....has successfully driven a wedge between the North and the Middle Belt and South West tripod that makes up APC.
First move towards 2019 (As any good Olympian/sportsperson will tell you....preparations for the next Olympics start from the day after the closing ceremonies of the last one).
Move 1 to the PDP....let's hope APC counters any move by the PDP to gain their queen and declare a checkmate....BY working extra hard to make Nigeria an industrial society which means jobs....and a means to ride out the oil crisis. I was wondering if and hoping that the PDP such as it is SE/SS would be able to pull this move off and the success that happened yesterday is beyond my fondest hopes. It still amazes me though that the sophisticated ones do not see the move that has been made for what it is.Well i suppose they can only see just beyond their noses and not much farther ahead. This move in addition effectively guarantees that the SS/SE will not be cheated or stylishly excluded in any way when the committee headships and memberships of strategic economic /security and administrative sectors are decided. |

bittertruth69: Does anyone remember Gen. Dambazau and the role he played at the inception of Jos crises. His closeness with PMB is revealing. I rest my case. And the YarAdua midnight return and ghost presidency drama a role he played along with Tanimu Yakubu and other folks all of whom look to be deep insiders in this administration.Nigerians are screwed but i have NO PITY for them. They screwed themselves. |

President in Niger ,vice in Sudan both using different presidential planes but they and their party condemned to high heavens the existence and use of more than one plane in the presidential fleet during President Jonathan's administration. Their hypocrisy will choke them. |
