@justmellow, thanks. If passport expires while Visa application is being processed, are they likely to ask for a new passport JustMellow: Hello Emeify1,
In this case, its best advised to apply with a renewed passport but if you've already submitted your passport with your documents, no worries. After you've secured your TRV within the validity of your PP, you can always renew/extend your Visa/SP in Canada.
All the best. |

Not sure about this question. But if u are working or have a business, you should be able to show sizable funds even if u want to use him as your sponsor. That's just my thoughts Abbygailz: Good day everyone, please I have a question.
I would be applying for SOWP soon, my husband is currently a student in Canada.
Is it okay to use his Dad (my father in law) as my sponsor considering that his son (my husband) also used him as his sponsor when he applied last year?
Thank you. |

@YummyA, I am sorry to read about yr refusal. It took this long and still got denied, take heart. If u could enumerate on the documents u submitted and yr current employment situation, we could be able to find where u can make improvements. Is your spouse a student or on PGWP? Did u submit a leave letter, what ties, etc. I know u would need some time to absorb the refusal, but when u are ready, drop them here so we can help. all the best. YummyA: My Visa was delayed based on home ties, purpose of visit and current employment situation... I believe it's not the end of the road and I wish every other person approval by God's grace |

Wanted to ask with respect to deposits in one's account beyond salary amount. How far back should those deposits be before u dont have to explain them? For example, applying towards end of decenber but have an unexplained deposit on October 10th. Though there have been deposit and withdrawal transactions of that amount in d account before.
As the deposit is in October, more than 2 months to visa application, does it still need to be explained? If yes, if it is explained as repayment of a loan offered to a friend (there is evidence of transfer to the friend 2 months earlier), what will be acceptable evidence of this repayment? A letter of agreement between them? Especially if there is no trail from the friends bank account as deposit was from Applicants own account in a different bank not being submitted for the application. Money was actually from sis in law which could be explained as a gift deed but I was wondering how a gift deed would look for a fully employed person earning a good salary. Kindly advise. |

@justmellow, thanks for this enlightenment. It's hard to get documents to prove things like community participation. Would u be able to spare some time to help me review the letter and documents? JustMellow: Hello Emeify1,
The most important thing to work convincingly hard on is home ties to show solid proof of economic establishment. However, showing landed property is good but showing landed property that is economical is more better. Either way, both are good.
If an a study leave can't be gotten from an employer, not too much of a big deal. The employment letter, 'reference letter' and work ID is enough to prove employability. There are good other aspect one can show good intent to return back, especially for family application. The following listed can be resourceful.
Good economic establishment or prospect
1. Investment (shares, treasure bill, bond, fx d.) 2. Insurance Policy 3. Business (family or personal) 4. Real estate ( rental property ownership)
Sociocultural reasonableness
1. Inheritance 2. Organizational membership (holding sensitive position. 3. Active community participation 4. Family
Level of establishment
1. Landed property 2. Good financial flow 3. Stable source of funds.
Thus, for the purpose of visit, try to write a succinct letter to why you want to be with your spouse in Canada. This will consolidate the invitation letter, your spouse valid SP and other supporting documents. Then show sufficient funds that would cover your LE. |

@Qudkom, thanks for this. Do u have any specific advice for sowp candidates? Especially in terms of how to establish ties back home when an applicant cant get an extended leave from their employer? How do they justify their employability on returning home? How does one justify purpose of visit, etc? Dont think this is derailing the thread as a few people here would benefit from this information. Thank u. Qudkom: Long post alert
I hate when I log into this forum and see excessive refusals. The truth is your refusal isn't because; 1. You truly have a vague SOP 2. Your academic program doesn't show a true purpose of visit. 3. Weak family ties or any of those vague reasons they give.
Since I got here I have analysed so many trends with international students from other countries most especially India and China. And here is my conclusion;
1. Most of this international students can't even speak good English hence, how did they scale through the SOP part that they mostly tell us we've written something "poor or vague"
P.S: Nationality withheld in a group presentation one international student wrote a report and I wanted to faint. A JSS3 Nigerian student can't write like that!
2. Most of them don't even get study permits for relevant courses that correlate with any work experience or whatsoever that we otherwise get refused for under the contempt of "purpose of visit" or "limited employment opportunities"
Now the reasons why this international students scale through the hectic STUDY PERMIT requirements are because;
1. They pay a year tuition 2. Show verifiable proof of living expenses (10kCAD) 3. They have viable financial institutions that give student loans with flexible payment intervals. 4. They hardly submit fraudulent documents which can ruin the chances of others. 5. Indians and Chinese immigrants invest a lot in Canada if you go to greater Toronto areas or Vancouver you'll confirm this.
So tell me why they won't be favoured. They don't care if they don't have a clear purpose of visit or whatsoever PRUDENCE is the order of the day
Also another clear reason why we Nigerians have so many refusals is simply because the study permit program in Canada as become over successful and there is simply not enough space. You need to see the way universities and colleges cash out yearly from international students it's unbelievable and when you notice that some other countries are given more priority then where do we stand. Where do we stand in a situation; 1. Where we're using 2/3 co-sponsors where some Asian kid as paid one year school fees and still doesn't mind paying 1kcad every month on living expenses.
2. Where do we stand when some people have ruined others chances through fraudulent documents
3. Where do we stand when other nationals are purchasing GIC(Guaranteed investment certificate) in the tune of 10kcad upwards to show proof of fund and we are still drawing table on how our uncle/brother/sister will sponsor us and getting #500 affidavit to support our claim
Please guys don't beat yourself up the system is flawed you aren't stupid or unfortunate it's just how the system works. I have met 2 immigration lawyers in Canada and I have seen some truth about the system.
Canada’s lack of a federal business immigration program and the difficulty of entering as a skilled worker through the express-entry system is adding to the overwhelming numbers of international students lining up for permanent residency. People from abroad are becoming students, just to have a pathway to immigration, he says.
“They're forcing people that really shouldn't go to school into the school system. And that's why, perhaps, the refusal rates are higher
On the contrary you can set yourself apart by boosting your chance if you have the means; 1. Pay a year tuition 2. Keep living expenses in the tune of 10KCAD in a fixed deposit and let it mature for at least 3months 3. Avoid fraudulent documents 4. Keep your SOP simple and straight to the point 5. Avoid using confusing documents 6. I'm sorry to say but limit the amount of co-sponsors if possible 7. Apply for relevant courses.
P.S: At thus rate the Canadian government might have post graduate work programs for people that study specific technical courses only while the rest will go home just like what we witnessed in UK.
Keep your heads high and keep pushing. It is well. Cheers |

Without a stydy leave letter, how does an employer reference help them in proving employability. In addition, hoe does this apply to sowp applicants who are not even going to study and can't get an extended leave. Kindly elaborate. Thanks Qudkom: Recent refusals based on Employment
It is your duty to explain your current employment stance to the VO. They want to understand that you have a viable job in Nigeria that can lure you and also want enough proof to verify that your program in Canada will boost your employability in Nigeria.
Common Mistakes: 1.submitting employment documents showing low remuneration and expecting the VO to believe that will convince you to come back to Nigeria.
2. Showing proof of employment in a company/Organization that cannot be verified. I once did an open source search on the CAC website and found out a particular company used by an applicant still uses an old land line number!!!!
3. VO's do verify social media platforms. So are you using your uncles company as proof of employment and your LinkedIn shows you're working elsewhere
4. Work experience not correlating with previous education program or proposed program in Canada.
5. Not proving why the program in Canada is of any reasonable expense or how it helps to boost your employment chances in Nigeria.
6. Claiming to study in a field that is technically dormant in Nigeria and hence little chance of employment. For example studying a program in Nuclear physics and claiming to apply the skill set back in Nigeria!
7. Stating that your employee will give a 2yr study leave! in Nigeria that is almost not possible unless you're a top ranked official or extremely important.
This are just some of the many mistakes regarding refusals based on employment reasons. Please avoid this mistakes. All the best. |

Thanks a lot. What exactly did the GCMS say for employment situation? As well as the other refusal reasons KlausMike: ‘I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay based on - personal asset and financial status - Employment situation -family ties in home country and Canada
I provided more details from my wife’s place of work - introduction letter, bank statement showing salary payment, payslips. I also provided documents showing ownership of our house in Nigeria worth over 60 million Naira, CAC document showing 20% ownership of family business with cash flow of over 500million Naira and bank statement showing payments from the business, and attached bank documents from my Canadian bank account showing a 1 year fixed deposit of $50000 and about $25000 closing balance from chequing account and savings account. I applied using an agent here in Canada. So he helped to put everything together and clarified in details our circumstance based on the information from the GCmS note. More details were provided sha, this is not every.. the agent was quite detailed in his letter of explanation |
