Unfortunately, our traducers do not share this sentiment and empathy with us, they are rather calling for death and destruction just because we elected to honor these heroes that died so that we will live.

Agbaletu:

I am honoured too.
Federal and state governments are not funding ground breaking research at all. Most PhD and MSc students are mostly self-funded unlike in the West. The western countries are even funding Nigerian students' research works abroad. I could remember when I completed my PhD, a good friend of mine wanted to apply for his PhD too, but I discouraged him. I told him it will take all his resources and he might end up unhappy man after the completion of his PhD in this country. I am happy he is on scholarship in the west now. It will take a long time to get back to our earlier position in academic world. A novel research requires funding. The rot in the system will take along time to clean up. I do not see any green light for now; maybe I am being pessimistic.
Thanks, emere007 for your contribution.

Well I still believe that can only get better Prof, and I'd love to read more on your academic researches and journals to drink from your fountain of academic ingenuity.

Well the issues with Nigerian Students studying abroad stems from the fact that most are competing strongly with peeps who are better equipped from the cradle, hence why some take time to settle into the culture as obtained abroad.

But many Nigerian Students are doing incredibly well abroad, excelling in their chosen fields of study, the cost is a bit on the high side, but at the end of the day it is worth every bit of it. Again, it depends on the field, for those in the Humanities for example might find it a bit hard surviving because the courses herein are not competitive in the open job market.

For those of us with better IT knowledge are killing it big because many tech startups are lining up to snatch dudes with a strong leaning to coding and cognitive abilities on futuristic and contemporary tech.

Thanks again, I feel honored having this conversation, this site has been super filled with illiterates and semi illiterates, this is my first time meeting someone of repute and I'm so happy about that. High five prof!

I won't totally disagree with your submission. I can only tell you that it is near impossible to plagiarize now. It might be easy before now. The days of plagiarism have passed. The area of specialization really matters and your contribution to knowledge is also very important. More reasons why I have not published any paper this year.
As per the foundation, you are absolutely correct.
I share in your zeal prof and I'm honored to have this critical chat with you, though we disagree in some areas but I'm truly happy that Nigerian Institutions are doing a great deal to deal with the malaise associated with plagiarism.

However, I still have my skepticisms going forward, because we are yet to see any academic study or endeavor yielding any fruit from any Nigerian Institutions, I know we have patented studies by some distinguished scholars (which I believe you are one of such); but like I asserted, the areas are not ground breaking enough to warrant any form of global attention. In the past we've had Nigerian scholars sharing the podium of academic excellence with the best of the very best globally; sadly today, the reverse is the case.

Notwithstanding, I stand to be corrected!

The academic curriculum might be obsolete at the BSc level, but not MSc, let alone PhD.
but never lose sight of the fact that the Undergraduate level is the foundational level of the academic strata, the other levels you speak of are just for mere academics, not like I'm deemphasizing their importance, in Germany for instance what you are required is attaining the BSC and remember it is free and subsidized, so the institutions ensure they equip you with the requisite skills and knowledge to conquer the outside world be it in tech or other eclectic innovations. The moral of the story being- "we have trained you, so wake you a$$ up and go use the knowledge to better yourself and your society"

Most of the phd students in Nigeria deal with plagiarized work copied from varied academic journals, their thesis are more on unimportant areas of study, I mean specializations that are more theoretical and hypothetical to a large extent.

Education / Re: Is Studying Engineering In Nigeria A Scam? by emere007(m): 12:37am On Apr 15, 2019
CodeTemplar:
I am not a Buhari supporter or party person even. I spoke the truth and I know it.
Engr isn't about cramming how a particular technology works but understanding the principles of engineering and using them endlessly.
Can you imagine what life would be like if your lecturers decide to give you limited practical examples in a world of plenty possibilities?

sorry for replying your comments and placing you together with these Buharists who've got their heads stuck in the veggie's dung hole. Truly sorry for that.

Well like you clearly opined, Engineering is not about cramming (just like the OP stated in his submission), it is about creativity and using theories and academic postulations to treat real life problems. From our conjectures, it is obvious that this is lacking in the Nigerian context, which again the OP was trying to point out.

Nigeria is never going to get it right until we kill the mediocrity that has pervaded every sector of our lives. Imagine having quota system as a criteria to select the next egg heads that will run politics and the economy. Affirmative action has run its course, and many countries are doing away with it and instead enthroning meritocracy. Sadly when you have a deficient President who comes from a backward region running the affairs, it is very clear that mediocrity and impunity will continue to be the order of the day.
Education / Re: Is Studying Engineering In Nigeria A Scam? by emere007(m): 7:12pm On Apr 14, 2019
CodeTemplar:

The problem is selfish and lazy attitude from student like you who blame their flaws and forgetfulness on the system.

What practical do you expect people never thought practicals to teach you? Please state some practical aspects of Engineering lets see.

people with practical knowledge and real life examples & experiences of how flawed Engineering studies are in Nigeria are speaking and you are here spewing your normal Buharists tantrums and thrash.

I got knowledge of how defective our school systems are when I went for a short course outside the shores of the country, there I met Indians who schooled us on what practical engineering knowledge is, the few Nigerians like me where just mopping at them, wondering how they acquired knowledges of such proportions within the confines of their ivy towers and our lecturers are busy scouting for political jobs and appointments and screaming "strike"

But as usual peeps like you will see nothing wrong because your lord, master and Saviour is in the saddles. If for any reason the situation where to be different, say Jonathan or Atiku mounting the reigns, you will be allover the place laying blames on the duo on how they and their cronies have looted the treasury leaving nothing behind for educational expenditures! but since its the veggie- then the Students who strive hard to keep it up studying in harsh conditions should accept the blame, while Buhari is busy globe trotting, talking gibberish and BS on things he couldn't care less about, while fanatical supporters like you are busy holding brief for him while he excretes his incompetence on the good people of Nigeria, Students inclusive!
