Isabel is 2 months Old, she has been discharged but will finish her medication tomorrow. Her PCV is now 43%, stooling has drastically reduced, appetite back to normal and malaria is gone. Though she has lost weight, now weighing 4.3kg but I know we will regain all that's lost soon.
Finally, I can now post pix on nairaland. I took the pix just now.

She is better now though we are still in the hospital, we may be discharged today. She had malaria and blood was transfused.

Wow sorry sis its well with her.

It's most likely an infection is what caused hers to be that low, because newborns are born loaded with it from their take from mom till about six month's.

It starts to drop after six months of age, which is why its recommended to start fortified cereals cos breast milk doesn't offer enough iron.

Or you didn't take your prenatal religiously or eat an iron rich food hence her shortage.

However it can be easily upped by giving her iron rich formula or you take supplement like pregnacare or wellwoman for nursing moms.


Don't feel sad she will be fine once the proper diagnosis is made and treatment commences.

Widal is a blood test used to diagnose typhoid I think not sure.

My DD's pcv is 26%, I feel so sad. She may be admitted this evening when we go back to the hospital.

If she's really vomiting like the projectile vomiting of a sick person (and not just spitting up) then you should take her to the hospital let them run tests. From my experience this past few weeks, babies can be seriously sick and still seem alright.

Thanks Giddymummy, it has reduced for now cos I stopped her from staying too long sucking. I give her the b.rea.st at intervals, cos it seems she was over feeding herself.

Mama's biko, ejoo, pls help me out. My baby threw up (vomited) after sucking this morning, though she slept off afterwards.
She threw up again after sucking when she woke up from sleep not long ago. pls should I be worried? though she seems alright.

sorry teamie, I was given antibiotics for two weeks, I almost had same problem too, so I stopped sitting in hot water with salt and dettol, I switched to luke warm water without salt/dettol.

Is tea ok for a substitute during the day? Don't want to give them tea at night though( cos of teeth and to avoid leaving it for long hours before taking).

Yes you can give them tea as a substitute or even fresh fruit juices. I weaned my baby with just water for night time cos I was told its easier for them to sleep all night once they know it's water they'll take. But if they cry too much you can make the tea at each waking up time.
For pain relief, I took Ibuprofen and wrapped cold cabbage leaves around the breast.

We tried it 2days ago, all d Boy released was a loud fart like atomic bomb..

lol, the farting comes like every 10 mins and it smells a lot. I even poured warm water on the bum but she only farts without poo. I have taken enough fruits, so am expecting somethings on her diaper
