CrimeBusinessman Killed By Apprentice In Onitsha, Anambra by Emmalez(op): 10:53am On Feb 16
In a heartbreaking turn of events that has left the bustling markets of Onitsha in shock, a well-respected businessman known for his commitment to mentoring young entrepreneurs has lost his life in a violent confrontation with one of his apprentices. Iyke, a prominent figure in the local trading community, was fatally struck over the weekend, highlighting the challenges of nurturing the next generation amid rising societal pressures.

Like many successful Igbo entrepreneurs, Iyke heeded the calls from community leaders to preserve the time-honored Igbo apprenticeship system, often referred to as "Igba Boi." This tradition, which has produced generations of thriving business owners, involves not just teaching trade skills but also providing shelter, guidance, and a family-like environment. Iyke, having built a stable business in one of Onitsha's vibrant markets, opened his doors to several young boys eager to learn the ropes.

Among them was Chiemerie, a young man in his early twenties who had been living and working under Iyke's roof. However, sources close to the family reveal that Chiemerie had become increasingly problematic. Reports of behavioral issues, including possible influences from external factors like hard drugs and gang affiliations, had plagued his tenure. Over the recent Christmas period, there were even discussions about sending him back to his family village. But after pleas from relatives and promises of improvement, Iyke decided to give him another chance—a decision rooted in the compassionate spirit of the apprenticeship system.

The incident unfolded late over the weekend when Iyke was out with his family. As the night wore on, one of the other apprentices at home noticed Chiemerie's absence and called Iyke to report it. Iyke, aiming to enforce discipline, instructed the caller to inform Chiemerie upon his return that he should head back to wherever he had been, given the late hour. It was meant to be a straightforward lesson in responsibility.

Unbeknownst to Iyke, Chiemerie had already slipped back into the house and was lying in wait. When Iyke returned, the young apprentice allegedly ambushed him, striking him on the head with a heavy pestle. Iyke collapsed immediately and was pronounced dead at the scene. In the chaos that followed, Chiemerie reportedly turned on Iyke's sister, inflicting injuries with the same weapon. She survived the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, where doctors say she is stable but traumatized.

Local authorities acted swiftly, arresting Chiemerie at the scene. He is now in custody at the Onitsha police station, where investigations are ongoing. Police spokesperson, Inspector Ngozi Eze, confirmed the details in a brief statement: "This is a tragic case that underscores the need for vigilance in our communities. We are committed to a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served."

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the broader societal issues facing Nigeria's youth. With unemployment high and influences from popular culture—such as the glamorization of quick wealth, gang life, and substance abuse by celebrities—many young people are vulnerable to negative paths. The Igbo apprenticeship system, once a beacon of hope for economic empowerment, now faces threats from these modern challenges. Community leaders are calling for stronger support systems to protect mentors and mentees alike, ensuring that "bad eggs" do not undermine opportunities for the deserving.

Iyke's death leaves a void not just in his family but in the lives of those who depended on him—employees, other apprentices, and the wider market community. Questions linger about the future of his business and the support for his dependents. As one local trader put it, "This is one blow too many for all of us."

Our thoughts are with Iyke's family during this difficult time. May his soul find eternal peace.

CrimeLASTMA Condemns Brutal Attack On Officer By Reckless Bus Driver In Ojota by Emmalez(op): 4:22pm On Feb 15
In a disturbing escalation of road rage, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has strongly denounced a vicious assault on one of its officers by a commercial bus driver at the bustling Ojota Interchange this afternoon. The incident, which unfolded along the high-traffic Ojota–Ketu corridor, has left the agency reeling and sparked fresh concerns over the safety of traffic enforcers in the state.

Eyewitnesses and official accounts describe a routine traffic stop turning into a nightmare. The driver, behind the wheel of a white Caravelle GL Volkswagen bus with registration number EKY 693 YK, was flagged down for a blatant safety violation: operating the vehicle with its passenger door wide open while ferrying a load of unsuspecting commuters. What should have been a straightforward warning quickly spiraled out of control.

According to LASTMA spokesperson, Mrs. Adeola Ogunleye, the driver not only refused to comply but launched into a desperate bid to evade arrest. "He veered sharply, attempting to mount the road median in a reckless maneuver that endangered everyone around him," Ogunleye told ReportNaija in a phone interview. The bus soon ground to a halt after getting stuck, but the driver's fury was far from over. In a shocking turn, he shattered a bottle and lunged at the officers, inflicting deep stab wounds on one victim's fingers. The attack caused severe fractures and profuse bleeding, forcing the injured officer into immediate emergency surgery at a nearby hospital.

As chaos erupted, the assailant slipped away into the crowd, leaving behind a scene of pandemonium and a trail of unanswered questions. LASTMA officials wasted no time in securing the abandoned vehicle, which has now been impounded at their headquarters for further investigation. "This kind of violence against those who keep our roads safe is unacceptable," Ogunleye added. "We're working hand-in-glove with the police to track down this coward and ensure he faces the full weight of the law."

The rapid response police unit from the Ojota division has launched a manhunt, combing through CCTV footage and witness statements to piece together the driver's identity and whereabouts. No arrests have been made as of press time, but authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.

This isn't the first time LASTMA officers have clashed with defiant drivers in Lagos' notoriously congested streets, but the level of brutality here has drawn widespread condemnation from road safety advocates. Groups like the Lagos State Drivers' Union have already distanced themselves from the act, calling it a "black mark on the transport sector."

Crime20-year-old Survives Nail Hammered Into Skull Over Alleged Chicken Theft by Emmalez(op): 12:51am On Feb 14
In a shocking case of mob justice that has left residents of Zaria reeling, a 20-year-old man named Aliyu Nuhu is recovering from a gruesome head injury after vigilante members allegedly drove a five-inch nail into his skull. The brutal attack stemmed from accusations that Aliyu had stolen a chicken, highlighting the dangers of vigilante groups taking the law into their own hands.

According to Aliyu's father, Mallam Salisu Nuhu, the ordeal began when his son was caught trying to sell a chicken in the local market. "They arrested him on the spot, dragged him to their base, and started torturing him," Mallam Salisu recounted in an emotional interview with Report Naija. He claimed the vigilantes demanded bail money for Aliyu's release, but when the family couldn't pay up, they let him go—only after inflicting the horrific injury.

For 13 agonizing days, Aliyu lived with the nail embedded in his head, enduring unbearable pain and risking severe infection. The family finally managed to get him medical attention, where surgeons successfully removed the nail in a delicate operation. The cost of treatment has been staggering, with Mallam Salisu revealing they've spent over N800,000 so far, dipping into savings and borrowing from relatives to cover hospital bills and medications.

Aliyu has pointed the finger at one Nuhu Dan Banga as the main perpetrator behind the attack. "He was the one who hammered the nail in," Aliyu said weakly from his hospital bed, still bandaged and under observation. The young man's story has sparked outrage in the community, with many calling for stricter oversight of vigilante operations in Kaduna State.

Police authorities in Zaria have confirmed the incident and are taking action. A spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command told Report Naija that one suspect has already been arrested in connection with the assault, while efforts are underway to apprehend another who remains at large. "Investigations are ongoing, and we assure the public that justice will be served," the spokesperson stated, urging citizens to report crimes to law enforcement rather than resorting to self-help.

This incident comes amid growing concerns about vigilante violence in northern Nigeria, where economic hardships and petty theft often lead to extreme punishments. Community leaders in Zaria are now pushing for dialogues to prevent such tragedies, emphasizing that no one deserves such barbaric treatment over unproven allegations.

TravelU.S Uber Driver Calmly Ends Ride After Passenger Reports Feeling Unsafe (Video) by Emmalez(op): 11:55pm On Feb 10
Uber Driver Calmly Ends Ride After Passenger Reports Feeling Unsafe Over Phone Call

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNS_qI_FVSQ?si=WxYveqXvC9Efhc0Z

A tense encounter between an Uber driver and his passenger has gone viral after the woman called Uber support mid-ride, claiming she felt unsafe because the driver was on a phone call using headphones. The driver, in response, parked the vehicle, began recording the situation, and instructed her to book another ride for her safety.

The incident, captured in a video that has sparked widespread discussion online, shows the driver addressing the camera while the passenger remains in the back seat. "She says she feels unsafe. I'm sitting here, obviously have my seat belt on, nothing's going on," the driver explains calmly. He points out that she's refusing to exit the vehicle despite her concerns, adding, "She's sitting back there, she refuses to get out of my vehicle."

The video begins with the passenger on the phone with Uber support, noting that the driver is now recording her "for my safety." The driver suggests she step out and wait at a nearby business with chairs, emphasizing that she's welcome to arrange alternative transportation. The dispute escalates slightly when the passenger expresses worry that the driver might drive off with her belongings in the trunk. In a composed manner, the driver exits the car, opens the trunk, and places her package beside the vehicle, saying, "I'm going to get her package out because she's scared I'm going to take her package. This is their package. Getting her package out and set it right here beside so she can have it."

Viewers have noted the driver's patience throughout the ordeal, as he repeatedly urges her to leave while ensuring her items are secure. The footage ends with the package placed outside, highlighting the driver's effort to de-escalate the situation.

The video was shared on X by user @Hybrid_Ola, where it has amassed thousands of views and elicited mixed reactions. Many commenters praised the driver's handling of the matter, with one user stating, "Only someone that has been in Uber business can understand the mental torture this man went through." Others criticized the passenger's refusal to exit promptly, calling it unnecessary drama. "She should book her ride and get out. No wahala whatsoever," another remarked.

Uber has guidelines on driver conduct, including restrictions on phone use while driving, but hands-free calls via headphones are often permitted in many jurisdictions. However, passenger safety concerns are taken seriously, and riders are encouraged to report issues immediately. Uber has not commented specifically on this incident, but their policy allows drivers to end rides if they feel uncomfortable or if conflicts arise.

This event underscores the challenges faced by ride-sharing drivers and passengers alike, where minor disagreements can quickly escalate. It also highlights the importance of clear communication and the role of video recordings in protecting both parties.

Experts recommend that passengers feeling unsafe should exit the vehicle in a safe location and contact support, while drivers should prioritize de-escalation. As ride-sharing continues to grow in popularity, incidents like this prompt calls for better training and protocols to handle such disputes.

Politics“The Phones No Longer Ring” — Yusuf Buhari Opens Up on Life After Presidency by Emmalez(op): 2:54pm On Feb 10
Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President of Nigeria, has offered a sobering reflection on how quickly public attention fades once political power is gone.

Speaking candidly about the dramatic shift in his family’s reality after his father left office, Yusuf recalled the overwhelming wave of attention that followed Muhammadu Buhari’s election as president.

“After former President Goodluck Jonathan called my dad to congratulate him on his victory, my phone practically stopped resting,” Yusuf said. “I used to receive up to 2,000 calls every single day.”

According to him, the calls began as early as 4 a.m. and came from all directions — old schoolmates, distant relatives, casual acquaintances, and even former domestic staff who had, at one point or another, been associated with the Buhari household.

“There were also people who couldn’t clearly explain why they were calling,” he added. “My assistant usually had to find polite ways to cut those conversations short.”

However, Yusuf said the attention did not last.

“The moment my dad left office and handed over to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the calls dropped drastically — to about 100 a day,” he revealed.

The decline became even more pronounced after the former president’s death.

“After my dad was buried, the calls reduced further to around 20 daily,” Yusuf said. “Most of them now come only from siblings and a few business associates.”

Reflecting on the experience, Yusuf summed it up in stark terms: “The phones no longer ring. Nobody truly cares.”

His account has since resonated widely, serving as a reminder of the fleeting nature of influence and the loneliness that often follows life outside the corridors of power.

FamilyBurial Of Diana Skys Sparks Online Backlash Over Family Home by Emmalez(op): 2:34pm On Feb 10
The untimely death of 24-year-old TikTok influencer Diana Skys has not only left her family and fans in mourning but has also ignited a wave of harsh online criticism directed at the young woman, even in the wake of her brutal murder.

Diana, whose real name was Diana Nakiyingi, was discovered lifeless in her upscale apartment in Kampala last month. Authorities confirmed that she had been strangled to death during what appears to have been a violent robbery. The assailants made off with several valuables, including her high-end bags, an iPhone 17, laptop, shoes, clothing, and jewelry. Police investigations are ongoing, with no arrests reported as of yet. Diana, a university student just beginning to build her career as a social media influencer, had amassed a following for her vibrant content on lifestyle, fashion, and daily vlogs.

The tragedy took a bizarre turn when videos from her funeral began circulating on social media platforms. Instead of condolences, many commenters shifted focus to the appearance of her family's rural home in a village outside Kampala. Critics lambasted the late influencer for living in what they described as a "luxurious" apartment reportedly costing around 2 million Ugandan Shillings per month, while her father's house appeared modest and "local" by urban standards.

"How can she afford an iPhone 17 and live in such a posh place, but her family home looks like that? She should have built her father a better house first," one viral comment read, echoing sentiments shared across TikTok, Twitter, and Facebook. Others accused her of prioritizing personal extravagance over family obligations, with remarks like "Dare to flash wealth online but forget where you come from?" The backlash has drawn thousands of likes and shares, turning a moment of grief into a public spectacle.

Supporters of Diana, however, have pushed back against the negativity, highlighting her youth and the fact that she was still a student with a budding career. "She was only 24, trying to make something of herself. Why drag a murdered girl over her family's house? Have some shame," one defender posted in response. Human rights advocates and social media experts have weighed in, calling the online dragging a reflection of deeper societal issues, including cyberbullying, class shaming, and the pressures faced by young influencers in East Africa.

Diana's family has remained largely silent amid the controversy, focusing instead on seeking justice for her death. A family spokesperson told local media that they are devastated by the loss and appalled by the insensitivity online. "Diana was a bright light, full of dreams. This added pain is unnecessary," the statement read.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the perpetrators. In the meantime, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers influencers face and the toxic side of social media fame.

CrimeKinsmen Celebrate Death Of Alleged Gay Man In Shocking Burial Scenes by Emmalez(op): 8:27am On Feb 10

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQxSTQ1nG7M?si=vClXgJ9ren3vTNZw

The tragic story of Hilary Ikechukwu Emereole, a 23-year-old fresh graduate, has once again highlighted the deep-seated issues of violence and intolerance in parts of Nigerian society.

Hilary, also referred to as Hillary Ikechukwu Emereole in some reports, reportedly died after sustaining severe injuries from an alleged attack in Port Harcourt. According to accounts circulating on social media and rights groups, he was lured under false pretenses, beaten, and pushed from a two-storey building in what many believe was a homophobic assault linked to perceptions of his sexual orientation. He fought for his life for months but succumbed to complications from spinal and other injuries.

His remains were laid to rest over the weekend in his hometown, Umuihugba Umuodu Autonomous Community in Owerri, Imo State, following a candlelight procession on Friday, February 6, 2026, and the burial on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

What has shocked many observers is the reported behavior at the funeral. Videos and eyewitness accounts shared online show groups of people—described by some as youths and kinsmen—dancing, singing, and chanting outside the family home, expressing joy over his death specifically because it was believed to be connected to homosexuality. An X user, known as Papi of the Buj, described the scenes as deeply painful and an "eyesore," noting that songs celebrated the manner of his passing on those grounds.

This reaction stands in stark contrast to traditional values in many Nigerian communities, including Igbo culture, where respect for the deceased is typically upheld regardless of the circumstances of death. Critics have pointed out the irony: while the country grapples with pressing challenges like insecurity, economic hardship, poverty, poor infrastructure, and unemployment, energy appears directed toward celebrating a young life lost rather than addressing systemic failures that affect everyone.

Human rights advocates, including organizations like Minority Watch, which attended the funeral, have condemned the violence and called for justice. They emphasize that no one deserves to be harmed or killed over their identity or perceived identity, and that such acts of mob justice undermine the dignity of all lives.

Hilary was a son, a brother, a friend, and a promising young man whose life was cut short in brutal circumstances. His story serves as a painful reminder of the urgent need for tolerance, accountability, and protection for vulnerable individuals in society.

May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find strength and comfort during this difficult time. Calls for a thorough police investigation into his death continue, as justice remains essential for healing and progress.

Nollywood veteran Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has issued a passionate plea to Nigerians, calling for the election of bold and selfless leaders who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the nation's progress as the 2027 general elections approach. In a recent appearance on Channels Television, the acclaimed actress emphasized the need for genuine commitment from those in power, highlighting that true change requires leaders prepared to put everything on the line.

"It's unfortunate that we're still where we are now. We have everything that every other nation wants and is clamoring for," Omotola said during the interview. "I wish our leaders were bold enough to make decisions that could truly liberate this country, even if it means dying for Nigeria." She stressed that without such dedication, Nigeria's potential remains untapped, urging citizens to prioritize accountability and sincerity over empty promises.

The actress, known for her advocacy on social issues, went further to critique the current state of leadership, pointing out that laws and their enforcement are the bedrock of any stable nation. "What keeps any nation sane or in order is laws and enforcement, and it starts from that," she noted. Omotola called for leaders with courage, conviction, and integrity, warning against the pitfalls of tribal politics and self-serving agendas that have hindered national development.

"Until we find leaders in Nigeria who are ready to die for this country, we haven’t started," she declared, clarifying that her words were not a call for violence but a demand for profound selflessness. Omotola's comments come amid growing discussions about the future of Nigerian governance, with many echoing her sentiments on the need for principled figures who place national interest above personal gain.

CrimeMan Lynched Over Gruesome Murder Of Teenage Boy In Keffi by Emmalez(op): 9:00am On Feb 09
In a shocking display of vigilante violence that has left the community of Keffi reeling, a man accused of brutally murdering a young boy and harvesting his eyes was beaten to death and set ablaze by an enraged mob. The incident, which unfolded in the Tsohon Kasuwa area of Keffi town, Nasarawa State, highlights the perils of mob justice amid growing frustrations over security lapses in the region.

The tragedy began on Thursday, February 5, 2026, when the lifeless body of teenage boy Aliyu Muhammadu Lawal was discovered in a pit within a neighboring compound. According to eyewitness reports and statements from the boy's father, the victim had been strangled, his neck slashed, and his eyes gruesomely removed. The discovery sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community, with residents describing the scene as "barbaric and heartbreaking."

Eyewitnesses quickly pointed fingers at Samaila Zaria, a local man who was allegedly the last person seen with the boy. While details on how the community identified Zaria remain unclear—possibly based on rumors or direct sightings—the accusation spread like wildfire. Before police or security forces could intervene, an angry crowd descended on him. Zaria was reportedly dragged out, interrogated, and in some accounts, even confessed to the crime under duress before the mob took matters into their own hands.

"The outrage was immediate and intense," said a local resident who spoke to Report Naija on condition of anonymity. "People were screaming for justice, but it turned chaotic. He was beaten senseless and then set on fire right there on the spot. By the time authorities arrived, it was too late—he was burnt to ashes."

The Nasarawa State Police Command has since confirmed the lynching, acknowledging the mob's actions while urging calm. In a statement, police officials noted that investigations are ongoing into both the boy's murder and the subsequent vigilante killing. However, no arrests have been made in connection with the mob violence as of this reporting.

The boy's grieving father, in an emotional interview, recounted the horror of finding his son's mutilated body. "I leave that to God," he said, referring to the fate of the accused. He described visible signs of violence: eyes gouged out, head appearing smashed from the impact, and clear evidence of a struggle. The family and community are now in mourning, calling for enhanced security measures to prevent such heinous acts in the future.

This case raises disturbing questions about the motive behind the boy's killing. Was it a ritualistic act, as many in Nigeria suspect in similar organ-harvesting incidents? Or could it stem from mental instability or a personal grudge? Authorities have yet to provide clarity, but experts point to a troubling pattern of ritual murders linked to superstitions or black market demands for body parts in parts of the country.

Report Naija reached out to local officials for comment, but responses were pending at the time of publication. Community leaders are now advocating for dialogue and reliance on law enforcement to avoid further escalations of violence.

Incidents like this underscore the urgent need for stronger policing and public education on the dangers of mob justice, which often leads to miscarriages of justice and further trauma. As Keffi grapples with this double tragedy, residents hope for swift answers and lasting peace.

CrimeMan Killed By Angry Mob In Delta 4 Days After Returning From Italy by Emmalez(op): 9:04pm On Feb 08
In a heartbreaking incident that has left many questioning the state of community justice in Nigeria, a young man named Lawrence was brutally killed by locals in the Owa Alero community of Agbor, Delta State. This tragedy unfolded just four days after Lawrence had returned from Italy, where he had been working to build a better life for himself and his family.

Initial rumors suggested that Lawrence's death stemmed from a road accident where he allegedly knocked someone down with a car. However, eyewitness accounts and local reports paint a far more disturbing picture. Lawrence and his brother were dining at a restaurant in the community when they witnessed a shocking act of violence: a boss attempting to stab his young apprentice, a little boy, in a fit of rage.

Refusing to stand by idly, Lawrence and his brother intervened to protect the child. What should have been a heroic act quickly escalated into chaos. The boss, backed by what sources describe as cultists from the area, turned on the brothers. Instead of seeking the truth or de-escalating the situation, nearby villagers reportedly sided with their "own," assuming the outsiders were at fault.

In the ensuing pandemonium, the brothers tried to flee for their lives. Lawrence's brother was struck by a passing vehicle during the chase, sustaining serious injuries. Lawrence, however, was pursued into nearby bushes by the angry mob. There, he is believed to have been severely beaten, strangled, and ultimately dumped into a pit, where his body was later discovered.

This senseless loss highlights deeper issues plaguing some rural communities, where mob justice often overrides reason and law. Lawrence, remembered by friends as a hardworking and kind individual, had only just begun to enjoy the fruits of his time abroad. His death serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked violence and the need for better community policing.

Local authorities in Agbor have launched an investigation into the matter, with calls from residents and activists for justice to be served.

Suspected members of a kidnapping gang that abducted a medical doctor in Auchi, Edo State, and killed his younger brother have been arrested after a dramatic encounter at the hospital where the victim works.

The suspects were reportedly apprehended after taking their sick child to the same hospital for medical attention. While carrying out his official duties, the abducted doctor, Dr. Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, allegedly walked into the ward and recognised the suspects as part of the gang that kidnapped him weeks earlier. He promptly alerted hospital authorities, who contacted security operatives, leading to the suspects’ arrest at the hospital premises.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed that the arrests followed ongoing investigations into the abduction of Dr. Babatunde.

According to her, the first breakthrough in the case occurred on February 3, when operatives of the Auchi Division, in collaboration with local hunters and vigilante groups, carried out a bush-combing operation at Warake Forest. During the operation, one suspect, identified as Saminu Kawujie (male), was intercepted.

A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of two knives, two mobile phones, one UBA ATM card, and the sum of ₦20,250. An identification parade was subsequently conducted at the police station, during which the suspect was identified as one of those involved in the abduction of Dr. Babatunde.

Providing further details on the latest arrests, ASP Ikoedem stated that on February 8, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer, acting on credible intelligence related to the same case, mobilised operatives to the Specialist Hospital in Auchi.

“At the hospital premises, two suspects identified as Idris Abubakar (male) and Sani Abubakar (male) were apprehended. Both suspects were identified as members of the gang that abducted Dr. Babatunde on January 2, 2026. Idris Abubakar was specifically identified as the individual who received the ransom money paid for the doctor’s release,” she said.

The police spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang, assuring residents of the state that those responsible for the crime would be brought to justice.

CrimeMan Arrested For Allegedly Attempting To Defile Daughter Of Late Friend by Emmalez(op): 12:02am On Feb 08
Man Arrested in Lokoja for Allegedly Attempting to Defile 14-Year-Old Daughter of Late Friend

A man identified as Ernest Obetule, said to be in his early 50s, has been arrested by security operatives in Lokoja following allegations of attempting to sexually exploit the 14-year-old daughter of his late close friend, Okpanachi.

The disturbing case came to light after the girl's family raised the alarm, leading to a sting operation that ended with the suspect's apprehension at a hotel where he had allegedly arranged to meet the minor.

Reports indicate that Ernest had publicly mourned his friend Okpanachi's passing on December 17, 2024, via a social media post where he described the deceased as "the last man who stood by him when all hope was lost." The tribute painted a picture of deep loyalty and brotherhood.

However, what began as concern for the welfare of his late friend's family quickly took a sinister turn. Sources close to the matter revealed that Ernest had obtained the girl's contact details legitimately while Okpanachi was still alive, during friendly visits to the family home. Such contact is often seen as harmless among trusted friends—allowing for guidance, support, or assistance in the parents' absence.

Tragically, this trust was allegedly abused. In recent days, Ernest reportedly initiated phone conversations with the teenager, gradually steering discussions toward her sexual preferences. According to accounts circulating online, he offered subtle praise for her responses, encouraged her to "make him happy," and explicitly inquired if she knew what a condom was—before proceeding to describe its use in graphic detail, behaviour widely interpreted as classic grooming tactics.

He then allegedly invited her to meet him at a hotel in Lokoja, promising ₦1,000 for transportation. When the girl confided in family members amid the inappropriate advances, they acted swiftly. Aware of voices in the background during one call—suggesting she was not alone—Ernest reportedly persisted undeterred.

The family coordinated with authorities, leading to the suspect's arrival at the hotel premises. He was arrested on the spot, with reports claiming a condom was found in his possession.

The girl's uncle, Offor Daniel Okpanachi, has since spoken out publicly, expressing shock and warning other families about the dangers lurking even among those considered "family friends." He emphasised the need for vigilance, urging parents to scrutinise the true intentions of people frequenting their homes, especially when young daughters are involved.

This case has reignited conversations about child protection, the betrayal inherent in exploiting grief and vulnerability, and the importance of open communication between parents and children. Many have questioned whether this is any way to honour a friend who stood firm during one's darkest moments.

As investigations continue, the incident serves as a stark reminder: not every gesture of friendship is genuine. Parents are advised to foster trusting relationships with their children so that warning signs can be shared early, and to remain watchful of adults who show unusual interest in minors under the guise of care or support.

ReportNaija will continue to follow developments in this case. Child sexual exploitation remains a serious crime under Nigerian law, with stiff penalties for offenders. If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, seek help immediately from trusted authorities or child protection organisations.

CrimeNigerian Man Jailed For Life For Murder Of Ex-girlfriend, 23-year-old Student by Emmalez(op): 4:34pm On Feb 07
A 40-year-old Nigerian man, Adedapo Adegbola, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 25 years for the murder of his former girlfriend, 23-year-old university student, Stephanie Irons.

The court heard that Adegbola became dangerously obsessed after Stephanie ended their relationship and was unable to accept her decision to move on. In October last year, he reportedly followed her to her residence and took advantage of a moment when she briefly stepped outside to gain access to her flat.

While inside, Adegbola attacked Stephanie, stabbing her in the neck. The injury proved fatal, and she died at the scene.

In a disturbing turn of events, the court was told that after the attack, Adegbola remained inside the apartment, sat on a sofa close to her lifeless body, and used her mobile phone to send inappropriate and misleading messages to her friends and colleagues in an apparent attempt to tarnish her image. He later left the apartment, attempted to clean the murder weapon, disposed of some of her belongings, and turned himself in to authorities the following day.

Stephanie’s body was discovered after her colleagues became concerned by unusual messages sent from her phone and went to check on her welfare.

During the sentencing, Stephanie’s parents described their daughter as kind, intelligent, and full of promise, stating that her death has completely shattered their family and robbed her of a bright future.

The judge ruled that the killing was premeditated and driven by obsession, noting that Adegbola deliberately took the life of a young woman whose only desire was to move on with her life.

The case has sparked renewed conversations about domestic violence, obsession, and the tragic consequences of unresolved emotional control.

A truly heartbreaking loss.

CrimeWrongfully Detained Man Regains Freedom After Three Years In Ikoyi Prison by Emmalez(op): 7:17pm On Feb 05
A Lagos-based legal advocacy team has secured the release of a man popularly identified as Citizen Gravel, who spent over three years at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre over allegations that were later dismissed by the court.

According to the legal team, Citizen Gravel was acquitted of all charges after it was established that he was wrongfully arrested and detained without proper investigation. His release followed sustained legal intervention after his case came to light during a routine prison decongestion visit last year.

The injustice reportedly began in 2023 when he refused to continue working for his employer without pay and subsequently resigned. Shortly after, his former employer accused him of stealing inverter batteries allegedly worth over ₦3 million. Based on the accusation, he was arrested and remanded in custody, where he remained for years without thorough investigation or trial.

It was during a prison outreach exercise that members of the legal team discovered his case and decided to take it up, eventually leading to his acquittal and release.

With this development, Citizen Gravel becomes the sixth inmate accused of theft and conspiracy whose freedom the team has secured this year alone, highlighting what they describe as a troubling pattern of wrongful detention driven by unverified allegations.

The legal team reaffirmed its commitment to challenging arrests, detentions, and prosecutions based solely on suspicion, retaliation, or social influence, stressing the need for due process and fairness within the justice system.

They expressed hope that his case will serve as a reminder of the importance of justice, accountability, and the protection of fundamental human rights in Nigeria.

CrimeHusband Arrested After Wife Dies Following Domestic Dispute In Imo State by Emmalez(op): 3:00pm On Feb 05
A man identified as Kelechi Prince Okeke has been taken into custody by the Imo State Police Command following the death of his wife, Olumma Chizoba Lucy Akataobi, 29, after an alleged domestic altercation in Owerri.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, February 2. Okeke, who is from Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, is currently being held at the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Owerri, as investigations continue.

According to accounts from the family of the deceased, the incident stemmed from a disagreement over ₦35,000. Olumma, a vegetable trader at Relief Market in Owerri, had sold goods worth the amount to a customer. When the customer attempted to make a bank transfer, the transaction reportedly failed. Olumma then provided her husband’s bank account details, into which the customer successfully transferred the money.

Family members claim that when Olumma later asked her husband to release the funds so she could reinvest in her business, an argument broke out. Her sister, Ezinne Akataobi, alleged that the disagreement escalated into a physical assault that led to Olumma’s death.

However, Okeke has denied the allegation. He reportedly told investigators that his wife was eating when she suddenly complained of chest pain, shouted “my chest, my chest,” vomited, and collapsed. He insists she died shortly after, without any physical confrontation.

Olumma’s family has rejected this version of events, insisting that she was subjected to repeated domestic abuse and is now calling for justice. Her sister stated that the family had on several occasions advised Olumma to return home, assuring her of their support, but she repeatedly went back to her husband.

Police authorities have confirmed that the matter is under investigation. Images circulating on social media show the suspect in handcuffs, fueling public outrage and renewed conversations around domestic violence.

As of the time of filing this report, the Imo State Police Command has not released an official statement on the cause of death. The outcome of the investigation will determine the next line of action.

Monday, 9 March 2026 — W.O.W Africa 100 Founding Members Breakfast Convening

Following the honors, W.O.W will hold the W.O.W Africa 100 Founding Members Breakfast Convening—an exclusive, closed-door session for women leaders, founders, investors, and senior professionals across Africa.

Designed as a strategic dialogue rather than a networking event, the convening will address:

Lelo N, who is fluent in Kiswahili, embodies the organization’s commitment to cross-cultural exchange, accessibility, and pan-African engagement.

“W.O.W Africa exists to amplify shared influence. It is not about individual dominance, but about collective economic development—women shaping markets, policies, and opportunities together across borders,” she said.

W.O.W Africa is positioned as a living ecosystem connecting recognition, dialogue, media and partnership as part of a broader vision for Africa’s economic future.

Looking Ahead — W.O.W Africa 50 Men

Celebrities"Na Seun Kuti I Blame”: Yhemo Lee Reacts To Seun Kuti–wizkid Online Clash by Emmalez(op): 2:24pm On Jan 21
Popular nightlife influencer and social commentator, Yhemo Lee, has weighed in on the heated online exchange involving Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti and global music star Wizkid, openly placing the responsibility for the drama on Seun Kuti.

The controversy began after Seun Kuti took to social media to call out Wizkid’s fan base, popularly known as Wizkid FC, over what he described as disrespectful comparisons between Wizkid and his late father, Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. Seun has consistently defended his father’s legacy, emphasizing that Fela was not just a musician but a revolutionary who used music as a weapon against bad governance, pioneered Afrobeat, and paid dearly for his activism.

However, Yhemo Lee believes Seun’s decision to engage Wizkid’s fans online only worsened the situation. In a series of posts that quickly went viral, he argued that many of Wizkid’s supporters — particularly Gen Z fans — have no personal connection to Fela’s era and therefore relate more strongly to Wizkid as their musical hero.

According to Yhemo Lee, most of these fans were not alive when Fela was active and cannot connect to his impact the way older generations do. For them, Wizkid represents greatness because they have followed his journey from the early days of Holla at Your Boy to his current global status.

“Na Seun Kuti I blame!! This fraction of FC you are cursing out don’t even know Fela. They have no single memory of him. Wizkid is their GOAT,” Yhemo Lee wrote.

He further noted that even among older Nigerians, many only know Fela through stories and documentaries, with very few able to name more than one of his songs. Meanwhile, those same people can easily sing along to numerous Wizkid tracks without hesitation.

Yhemo Lee suggested that Seun’s repeated online reactions have only encouraged more disrespect toward the Kuti name, adding that today’s internet culture has little regard for legacy or seniority.

“This current internet warriors no get respect for anybody papa. Na you cause this embarrassment for the Kuti family,” he added.

Using a football analogy, Yhemo Lee compared the situation to young fans declaring Lionel Messi the greatest of all time over Diego Maradona simply because Messi is the one they watched and experienced firsthand. While older fans who witnessed Maradona’s era may strongly argue his greatness, younger fans naturally gravitate toward what they know.

He concluded by advising Seun Kuti to exercise restraint, reminding him that the Kuti legacy belongs to the wider public and not just one individual voice.

“No be only you be Fela pikin!!!” he wrote.

The exchange has since sparked widespread debate across social media, with some users supporting Seun Kuti’s firm defense of his father’s unmatched cultural and political influence, while others agree with Yhemo Lee that generational differences make such comparisons unnecessary.

Wizkid has also responded in his usual unapologetic fashion, further fueling the conversation, as Nigerians continue to debate legacy, relevance, and generational shifts within the music industry.

CelebritiesAdult Content Creator Ifeoma Protest Against ALLACCESSFANS For Contract Breach by Emmalez(op): 3:54pm On Jan 20
An adult content creator, Ojiakor Ifeoma, popularly known online as Esther and also called “Ch0ke Me Off,” has taken her grievance with an adult content platform, AllAccessFans, to a public market square in Lagos.

Esther is protesting the alleged leakage of over 100 of her private adult contents on the platform and what she described as the company’s refusal to compensate her for the breach of contract and violation of her fundamental rights.

According to her, the affected contents were securely locked on her AllAccessFans account and could not have been accessed by the public without the direct involvement or assistance of the platform’s operators. She maintained that the alleged leak has caused her significant financial and reputational damage.

The content creator disclosed that she has, through her legal representatives, formally written to the company demanding redress. She also said she has repeatedly called out the platform on social media in recent weeks, seeking compensation and accountability, but received no response.

With no resolution in sight, Esther said she decided to stage a public protest at a market square to draw attention to her plight and pressure the company into addressing her claims.

The incident has since sparked conversations online about data security, creator protection, and accountability on subscription-based content platforms, particularly for Nigerian content creators operating in the digital space.

FamilyKano Woman Dies After Doctors Allegedly Leave Scissors Inside Her Body by Emmalez(op): 10:29am On Jan 13
Kano Woman Dies After Doctors Allegedly Leave Scissors Inside Her Body During Surgery

A Kano-based family has raised serious allegations of medical negligence following the death of a woman, Aishatu Umar, who reportedly died after complications from a surgical procedure carried out at a government health facility in the state.

According to a statement by Abubakar Muhammed, Aishatu Umar, his sister-in-law, passed away around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday. She is survived by her husband and five children.

Muhammed disclosed that the deceased, who lived in Kano, fell ill several months ago and underwent surgery at the Abubakar Imam Urology Center in September 2025. However, following the operation, she reportedly began experiencing severe and persistent abdominal pain.

Despite making repeated visits back to the hospital, the family alleged that she was consistently given pain relief medication without thorough investigations into the cause of her worsening condition. This, they said, continued for about four months.

The situation reportedly took a tragic turn just two days before her death when medical tests and scans were finally conducted. The results allegedly revealed that a pair of surgical scissors had been left inside her body during the September operation.

Efforts were said to be underway to perform a corrective surgery, but Aishatu Umar reportedly died before the procedure could be carried out.

“This is heartbreaking and unacceptable,” Muhammed stated, questioning how such an error could occur during a professional medical procedure. While acknowledging that death is inevitable for every soul, he described the incident as a grave act of negligence that undermines public confidence in the healthcare system.

The family is now calling on the Kano State Government and relevant health regulatory authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

They also appealed for justice for the late Aishatu Umar, describing her death as a painful loss not only to her immediate family but also as a disturbing case that raises broader concerns about patient safety in public hospitals.

As of the time of filing this report, the management of the Abubakar Imam Urology Center and the Kano State health authorities have not issued an official response to the allegations.

EducationPolice Ask Court To Remand AAU Students Arrested Over Anti-kidnapping Protest by Emmalez(op): 8:19pm On Jan 12
The Nigeria Police have asked a Benin High Court to remand several students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, who were arrested during a recent anti-kidnapping protest in the university community.

The students were reportedly picked up from different hostels following the protest, which was organized to draw attention to growing security concerns and repeated cases of kidnapping around Ekpoma and its environs.

According to eyewitness accounts, more than 50 students were arrested in the early hours after the protest and were subsequently taken to court in Benin City. Rather than being granted bail, the police reportedly requested that the students be remanded in prison custody pending further investigation.

Some of the affected students and their colleagues have described the arrests as unfair, insisting that their only “crime” was peacefully protesting for their safety amid rising insecurity in the area.

The development has sparked outrage among students and concerned members of the public, with calls for the immediate release of the arrested students and a renewed focus on addressing the security challenges that prompted the protest.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to get an official statement from the police authorities were unsuccessful.

PoliticsSouthern Political Corridor Must Remain United For Tinubu — Benjamin Kalu by Emmalez(op): 12:05pm On Jan 12
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has called on political leaders and stakeholders across the Southern region to maintain unity ahead of the 2027 general elections in order to consolidate support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Kalu made the call on Saturday while speaking at the South East Stakeholders’ Meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Enugu, Enugu State. He stressed that a united Southern political corridor remains critical to strengthening the party’s influence and ensuring continued national relevance.

According to the Deputy Speaker, internal divisions and fragmented alliances within the region could significantly weaken its political bargaining power at the national level. He warned that disunity would reduce the South East’s ability to mobilise sufficient votes to decisively influence electoral outcomes.

He urged party leaders and stakeholders to rise above personal interests and sectional disagreements, noting that collective effort and strategic cooperation are essential for achieving long-term political gains. Kalu further emphasized that unity within the APC across the South would not only support President Tinubu’s agenda but also create opportunities for greater inclusion and development for the region.

The meeting brought together key APC figures from the South East to deliberate on party unity, governance, and strategies ahead of future elections.
