The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate demolition of a dilapidated two-storey building located in the Oke-Suna area of Ilorin East Local Government Area after declaring the structure unsafe and a serious threat to lives and property.

The directive followed an inspection by officials of the state government, who found the building to be in a severely deteriorated condition with visible structural defects capable of endangering residents and passersby.

According to the government, the decision to demolish the property was taken as a preventive measure to avert a possible building collapse and protect members of the public from avoidable danger.

Authorities said the affected building poses an imminent risk due to its weakened structural integrity, stressing that public safety remains a top priority for the state government.

Residents and occupants of the area have been advised to keep away from the building and cooperate with officials as the demolition exercise is carried out.

The Kwara State Government also reiterated its commitment to enforcing building safety regulations and urged property owners to carry out regular structural assessments to prevent similar incidents across the state.

Anambra LG Chairman Sentenced to Five Years in U.S. Prison Over $3.5 Million Romance Scam

The Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area in Anambra State, Franklin Ikechukwu Nwadialo, has been sentenced to five years in prison in the United States after being convicted for his role in an online romance fraud scheme that defrauded eight victims of more than $3.5 million.

The sentence was announced by First Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Neil Floyd following proceedings before the U.S. District Court.

Nwadialo, 42, was arrested at an airport in Texas after arriving in the United States in 2024. He had earlier been indicted in December 2023 on 14 counts of wire fraud linked to a long-running romance scam operation.

At the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge Tiffany M. Cartwright described the crimes as “devastating,” noting that the victims suffered not only severe financial losses but also lasting emotional and psychological harm.

“It is not an exaggeration to say it ruined lives—not only financial lives,” the judge said, adding that many victims were left with shame, depression, and isolation from their families.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Neil Floyd said Nwadialo deliberately targeted emotionally vulnerable individuals, many of whom had experienced the loss of loved ones or other personal tragedies.

“This defendant preyed on those already suffering from the loss of loved ones or other heartbreak. For some 15 years he upended the lives of people he never met,” Floyd said.

“He spun tale after tale to gain the victims' trust and their money—even claiming to run a non-profit providing services for autistic children. No scheme was too low for these conspirators.”

Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Seattle Field Office, W. Mike Harrington, said the conviction demonstrates that international fraudsters can still be brought to justice.

“For years, Mr. Nwadialo preyed on vulnerable victims looking for relationships online, gained their trust, and told them lies to steal their life savings totaling millions of dollars,” Harrington said.

According to court records, Nwadialo used different versions of the name “Giovanni” to create fake profiles on dating platforms, including Match, Zoosk, and Christian Café.

Investigators said he typically posed as a member of the military deployed overseas, using the story to explain why he could not meet victims in person.

He allegedly invented numerous emergencies to persuade victims to send him money.

In one instance, prosecutors said he convinced a victim to send $150,000 by claiming he had been fined by the military for revealing his location.

Authorities said he also claimed to need money for his father's funeral, his son's school fees, investment opportunities, and to facilitate access to funds linked to his late father.

According to prosecutors, one victim believed she was in a romantic relationship with Nwadialo's fake online persona for three years before learning the truth through an FBI investigation.

Another victim, a widow seeking companionship after the death of her husband, reportedly lost her home and life savings after liquidating her assets to send money to the suspect.

In court filings, prosecutors argued that many of the victims may never fully recover from the financial and emotional damage caused by the fraud scheme.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigated the case, while Assistant United States Attorneys Sok Tea Jiang and David T. Martin prosecuted it.

Following the completion of his prison sentence, Nwadialo is expected to face further immigration proceedings in accordance with U.S. law.

The observer group in the statement issued by George Brown, Hon. Victor F. Heart, and Shriff Farouk for the Obidient Movement, as well as Eric Koko, Ibiwari George Green and Mohammed Abdullahi for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, said the coalition, in its desire to ensure transparency in the NDC primary election across the country, dispatched its members across the country to follow and monitor the conduct of the primary election committee in the states with due diligence, adding that the conduct has been very peaceful and commendable in Rivers State.

The OK Movement therefore warned all aspirants to desist from taking the media spaces available to them to cause confusion and ridicule the smooth conduct of the primary election, warning that no individual should announce any illegal result or declare himself winner, while coalition of results is still ongoing, saying it is only the party-empowered election committee that has the right to do so

The group therefore urged the public and members of the NDC in Rivers state to ignore and disregard any primary election result that did not officially come from the party

The statement further commended the outcome of the NDC members at the various venues of the primary election in Rivers state, stressing that the huge number was an indication that the NDC will make a commendable statement in the state during the 2027 polls

According to the statement, "based on the results so far collated in 15 LGAs, Blessing Fubara Snr has shown a wide lead, over the other aspirants, but we are yet to get the final result and no individual including the aspirants or group is permitted to announced any result. The only authentic result will be declared by the primary election committee and the party after all results have been collated



"We therefore call on the aspirants and their supporters to desist from the ongoing social media declaration as no result has been declared yet in the Rivers NDC governorship primary elections. The committee is still at work.

"Some of the desperate aspirants are going contrary to the party’s desire by making unofficial declarations on social media outlets. This is not acceptable, as it amounts to putting the NDC like the other political parties which the party has taken serious steps to be different from

"The OK primary election observer group therefore warns all the aspirants in all the states to remove desperation and allow the election committees to do their party assigned duties diligently as directed by the NDC leadership"
