Celebrities"Na Seun Kuti I Blame”: Yhemo Lee Reacts To Seun Kuti–wizkid Online Clash by Emmalez(op): 2:24pm On Jan 21
Popular nightlife influencer and social commentator, Yhemo Lee, has weighed in on the heated online exchange involving Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti and global music star Wizkid, openly placing the responsibility for the drama on Seun Kuti.

The controversy began after Seun Kuti took to social media to call out Wizkid’s fan base, popularly known as Wizkid FC, over what he described as disrespectful comparisons between Wizkid and his late father, Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. Seun has consistently defended his father’s legacy, emphasizing that Fela was not just a musician but a revolutionary who used music as a weapon against bad governance, pioneered Afrobeat, and paid dearly for his activism.

However, Yhemo Lee believes Seun’s decision to engage Wizkid’s fans online only worsened the situation. In a series of posts that quickly went viral, he argued that many of Wizkid’s supporters — particularly Gen Z fans — have no personal connection to Fela’s era and therefore relate more strongly to Wizkid as their musical hero.

According to Yhemo Lee, most of these fans were not alive when Fela was active and cannot connect to his impact the way older generations do. For them, Wizkid represents greatness because they have followed his journey from the early days of Holla at Your Boy to his current global status.

“Na Seun Kuti I blame!! This fraction of FC you are cursing out don’t even know Fela. They have no single memory of him. Wizkid is their GOAT,” Yhemo Lee wrote.

He further noted that even among older Nigerians, many only know Fela through stories and documentaries, with very few able to name more than one of his songs. Meanwhile, those same people can easily sing along to numerous Wizkid tracks without hesitation.

Yhemo Lee suggested that Seun’s repeated online reactions have only encouraged more disrespect toward the Kuti name, adding that today’s internet culture has little regard for legacy or seniority.

“This current internet warriors no get respect for anybody papa. Na you cause this embarrassment for the Kuti family,” he added.

Using a football analogy, Yhemo Lee compared the situation to young fans declaring Lionel Messi the greatest of all time over Diego Maradona simply because Messi is the one they watched and experienced firsthand. While older fans who witnessed Maradona’s era may strongly argue his greatness, younger fans naturally gravitate toward what they know.

He concluded by advising Seun Kuti to exercise restraint, reminding him that the Kuti legacy belongs to the wider public and not just one individual voice.

“No be only you be Fela pikin!!!” he wrote.

The exchange has since sparked widespread debate across social media, with some users supporting Seun Kuti’s firm defense of his father’s unmatched cultural and political influence, while others agree with Yhemo Lee that generational differences make such comparisons unnecessary.

Wizkid has also responded in his usual unapologetic fashion, further fueling the conversation, as Nigerians continue to debate legacy, relevance, and generational shifts within the music industry.

CelebritiesAdult Content Creator Ifeoma Protest Against ALLACCESSFANS For Contract Breach by Emmalez(op): 3:54pm On Jan 20
An adult content creator, Ojiakor Ifeoma, popularly known online as Esther and also called “Ch0ke Me Off,” has taken her grievance with an adult content platform, AllAccessFans, to a public market square in Lagos.

Esther is protesting the alleged leakage of over 100 of her private adult contents on the platform and what she described as the company’s refusal to compensate her for the breach of contract and violation of her fundamental rights.

According to her, the affected contents were securely locked on her AllAccessFans account and could not have been accessed by the public without the direct involvement or assistance of the platform’s operators. She maintained that the alleged leak has caused her significant financial and reputational damage.

The content creator disclosed that she has, through her legal representatives, formally written to the company demanding redress. She also said she has repeatedly called out the platform on social media in recent weeks, seeking compensation and accountability, but received no response.

With no resolution in sight, Esther said she decided to stage a public protest at a market square to draw attention to her plight and pressure the company into addressing her claims.

The incident has since sparked conversations online about data security, creator protection, and accountability on subscription-based content platforms, particularly for Nigerian content creators operating in the digital space.

FamilyKano Woman Dies After Doctors Allegedly Leave Scissors Inside Her Body by Emmalez(op): 10:29am On Jan 13
Kano Woman Dies After Doctors Allegedly Leave Scissors Inside Her Body During Surgery

A Kano-based family has raised serious allegations of medical negligence following the death of a woman, Aishatu Umar, who reportedly died after complications from a surgical procedure carried out at a government health facility in the state.

According to a statement by Abubakar Muhammed, Aishatu Umar, his sister-in-law, passed away around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday. She is survived by her husband and five children.

Muhammed disclosed that the deceased, who lived in Kano, fell ill several months ago and underwent surgery at the Abubakar Imam Urology Center in September 2025. However, following the operation, she reportedly began experiencing severe and persistent abdominal pain.

Despite making repeated visits back to the hospital, the family alleged that she was consistently given pain relief medication without thorough investigations into the cause of her worsening condition. This, they said, continued for about four months.

The situation reportedly took a tragic turn just two days before her death when medical tests and scans were finally conducted. The results allegedly revealed that a pair of surgical scissors had been left inside her body during the September operation.

Efforts were said to be underway to perform a corrective surgery, but Aishatu Umar reportedly died before the procedure could be carried out.

“This is heartbreaking and unacceptable,” Muhammed stated, questioning how such an error could occur during a professional medical procedure. While acknowledging that death is inevitable for every soul, he described the incident as a grave act of negligence that undermines public confidence in the healthcare system.

The family is now calling on the Kano State Government and relevant health regulatory authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

They also appealed for justice for the late Aishatu Umar, describing her death as a painful loss not only to her immediate family but also as a disturbing case that raises broader concerns about patient safety in public hospitals.

As of the time of filing this report, the management of the Abubakar Imam Urology Center and the Kano State health authorities have not issued an official response to the allegations.

EducationPolice Ask Court To Remand AAU Students Arrested Over Anti-kidnapping Protest by Emmalez(op): 8:19pm On Jan 12
The Nigeria Police have asked a Benin High Court to remand several students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, who were arrested during a recent anti-kidnapping protest in the university community.

The students were reportedly picked up from different hostels following the protest, which was organized to draw attention to growing security concerns and repeated cases of kidnapping around Ekpoma and its environs.

According to eyewitness accounts, more than 50 students were arrested in the early hours after the protest and were subsequently taken to court in Benin City. Rather than being granted bail, the police reportedly requested that the students be remanded in prison custody pending further investigation.

Some of the affected students and their colleagues have described the arrests as unfair, insisting that their only “crime” was peacefully protesting for their safety amid rising insecurity in the area.

The development has sparked outrage among students and concerned members of the public, with calls for the immediate release of the arrested students and a renewed focus on addressing the security challenges that prompted the protest.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to get an official statement from the police authorities were unsuccessful.

PoliticsSouthern Political Corridor Must Remain United For Tinubu — Benjamin Kalu by Emmalez(op): 12:05pm On Jan 12
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has called on political leaders and stakeholders across the Southern region to maintain unity ahead of the 2027 general elections in order to consolidate support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Kalu made the call on Saturday while speaking at the South East Stakeholders’ Meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Enugu, Enugu State. He stressed that a united Southern political corridor remains critical to strengthening the party’s influence and ensuring continued national relevance.

According to the Deputy Speaker, internal divisions and fragmented alliances within the region could significantly weaken its political bargaining power at the national level. He warned that disunity would reduce the South East’s ability to mobilise sufficient votes to decisively influence electoral outcomes.

He urged party leaders and stakeholders to rise above personal interests and sectional disagreements, noting that collective effort and strategic cooperation are essential for achieving long-term political gains. Kalu further emphasized that unity within the APC across the South would not only support President Tinubu’s agenda but also create opportunities for greater inclusion and development for the region.

The meeting brought together key APC figures from the South East to deliberate on party unity, governance, and strategies ahead of future elections.

PoliticsKatsina State Government Plans Release Of 70 Repentant Terrorists by Emmalez(op): 7:21pm On Jan 11
Katsina State Government Plans Release of 70 Repentant Terrorists Under Peace Deal

The Katsina State Government has concluded plans to release 70 individuals described as “repentant terrorists” as part of an ongoing peace and reconciliation initiative aimed at addressing insecurity in the state.

The development was confirmed by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Nasir Muazu, who explained that the decision is tied to peace agreements reached between affected communities and armed groups operating across several local government areas of Katsina State.

According to the commissioner, the move is intended to consolidate existing peace deals and encourage an end to violent activities in communities that have suffered prolonged attacks linked to terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.

The planned release, however, has generated widespread reactions and concerns, given Katsina State’s long-standing battle with terrorism and other forms of violent crime. Critics argue that reintegrating former fighters into society without transparent accountability mechanisms could pose risks to public safety, especially for communities that have lost loved ones to attacks.

Supporters of the initiative, on the other hand, maintain that dialogue and rehabilitation remain key components of resolving prolonged conflicts, insisting that the programme is designed to reduce violence and promote lasting peace.

As discussions continue, many Nigerians are calling for clarity on the terms of the peace deal, the rehabilitation process for the repentant individuals, and the safeguards in place to protect civilians should the release proceed as planned.

With over 250 ethnic groups, festivals play a major role in strengthening unity, boosting tourism, supporting local economies, and reminding Nigerians of their shared identity. From vibrant carnivals in the south to majestic horse parades in the north, these festivals tell powerful cultural stories.

HealthSad Update: Nigerian Doctor Found Dead In Ohio Lake by Emmalez(op): 10:12am On Dec 29, 2025
The body of a missing Nigerian doctor has been recovered from a lake in Ohio, United States, ending a month long search.
Dr. Cletus Iwuagwu, 71, was last seen on November 24, 2025, in Holland, Ohio. The Lucas County Sheriff’s Office found his body in Orchard Lake near Stone Oak Country Club on Thursday, December 25, 2025, according to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.

The Springfield Fire Department retrieved the body from the water. Family members reported Dr. Iwuagwu missing on November 25 after last seeing him around 8 p.m. in his office the previous evening.
His daughter received location updates on her phone tracking her father’s movements, but authorities did not find him at any of the places they checked during the initial search. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and a blue shirt, according to family descriptions provided to investigators.

The coroner’s office stated that the cause and manner of death remain under investigation. Authorities do not currently suspect foul play in the case. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday, December 26, to determine how Dr. Iwuagwu died.

Dr. Iwuagwu served as a professor in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences Department of Medicine at the University of Toledo Medical Center. He also worked as a geriatric medicine physician with UToledo Health, specializing in healthcare for elderly patients.

A University of Toledo spokesperson had described him as a well respected physician following the missing person report. “We share the community’s hope for his safe return as law enforcement continues to investigate his missing person case,” the spokesperson stated before the body’s recovery.

The month long gap between his disappearance and the discovery of his body raises questions about search efforts and the circumstances surrounding his death. Orchard Lake’s proximity to Stone Oak Country Club suggests the area may have been part of his regular routine or a location he visited for specific purposes.

Phone location tracking provided investigators with potential leads during the search, though the technology did not result in finding Dr. Iwuagwu alive. The limitations of such tracking in locating missing persons highlight challenges law enforcement faces when individuals disappear in areas with water bodies or dense terrain.

Geriatric medicine specialists like Dr. Iwuagwu focus on complex health issues affecting older adults, including chronic diseases, cognitive decline, and quality of life concerns. His role at the University of Toledo Medical Center combined clinical practice with academic responsibilities training future physicians.

The Nigerian community in the United States and medical colleagues will likely mourn the loss of an experienced healthcare professional who dedicated his career to serving elderly patients. His death at 71 comes during what would typically be retirement years for many physicians, though many doctors continue practicing into their seventies.

The discovery on Christmas Day adds a tragic dimension to the case, as families typically gather for celebrations during the holiday period. The timing may complicate funeral arrangements and mourning rituals for Dr. Iwuagwu’s family.

Lucas County, located in northwestern Ohio, includes the city of Toledo and surrounding communities. The area features numerous lakes and waterways that present challenges for search and recovery operations, particularly during late autumn and winter months when temperatures drop and visibility decreases.

The coroner’s office investigation will examine whether Dr. Iwuagwu’s death resulted from accidental drowning, a medical emergency that led to him entering the water, or other circumstances. The absence of suspected foul play suggests investigators have not found evidence of criminal activity.
University of Toledo Medical Center will need to address the loss of a faculty member and physician while supporting students, colleagues, and patients affected by Dr. Iwuagwu’s death. Academic medical centers typically have protocols for such situations, including memorial services and counseling resources.

The case underscores risks facing older adults who may experience medical emergencies while alone, particularly in outdoor settings where immediate assistance is unavailable. Geriatric physicians like Dr. Iwuagwu understood these vulnerabilities professionally, making the circumstances of his death particularly poignant.

Lagos Fire Tragedy: Body of China-Based Trader, Two Others Recovered From Collapsed Plaza

Tragedy struck in the Balogun Market area of Lagos Island after emergency responders recovered the remains of three victims from the rubble of the Great Nigeria Insurance House plaza, which was engulfed by a massive fire outbreak earlier in the week.

Among the deceased was a China-based clothier identified simply as Obum, alongside another male and a female victim.

The inferno reportedly began on the fourth floor of the towering 25–storey building on Wednesday before rapidly spreading to the upper floors and nearby structures. During the chaos, a detached section of the plaza weakened by the fire collapsed, trapping several traders and market assistants inside.

Sources revealed that the two male bodies were recovered on Friday at about 11:03am and 12:03pm, respectively.

Confirming the development, a trader, Zacheaus Afolayan, disclosed that one of the recovered bodies was later identified as that of Obum.

> “When his body was released to us later in the day, we discovered it was Obum. His body was intact, and the family has taken him to Anambra for burial,” Afolayan said.

He further narrated that the deceased, whose shop was located behind the plaza, had managed to rescue most of his goods before tragedy struck.

> “He had already evacuated almost everything when the fire was spreading. He only went back to pick the last set of goods when the section of the building collapsed on his store,” he explained.

In a heartbreaking revelation, Afolayan said Obum contacted him from beneath the rubble around 2am on Thursday, pleading for help and crying out in fear of losing his life, especially because of his children. He reportedly called again later that afternoon but sounded weaker.

Meanwhile, families of other persons still feared trapped beneath the debris have appealed for intensified rescue efforts and additional support for emergency responders working tirelessly at the scene.

Rescue operations and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

CrimeU.s.-based Nigerian NGO Boss Pleads Guilty To $1.4m Fraud, Faces Up To 25 Years by Emmalez(op): 6:48pm On Dec 28, 2025
A U.S.-based Nigerian education advocate, Dr. Nkechy Ezeh, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud a government-funded nonprofit organisation of over $1.4 million, alongside charges of tax evasion.

Ezeh, a former Executive Director of the Early Learning Neighborhood Collaborative (ELNC) and an Associate Professor of Education, entered the guilty plea at a U.S. District Court in Michigan. Court filings revealed that between 2017 and 2023, she conspired with ELNC’s Director of Finance and Administration, Sharon Killebrew, and others to siphon funds from the organisation.

According to prosecutors, Killebrew generated and approved fake invoices at Ezeh’s instruction, creating approximately $470,100 worth of fraudulent bills for services and supplies that were never provided. Investigators said part of the money went to Killebrew, while the remaining funds were transferred to Ezeh, her consulting firm (PONA Consulting), and other linked individuals.

Court documents further disclosed that Ezeh concealed key conflicts of interest by failing to reveal her involvement with the Early Years Coalition (EYC), an entity that received over $227,000 in grants despite not operating any preschool services. She reportedly ensured EYC paid out $212,658.84 for non-existent work.

In another revelation, Ezeh admitted establishing Global Open Learning and Development Preschools (GOLD) using stolen identities and without securing lawful tax-exempt status. Beyond the fraud scheme, she also failed to pay federal income taxes on proceeds from the crime, with estimated unpaid taxes amounting to $390,174.

Under her plea agreement, Ezeh has consented to forfeit $1,193,900 and fully repay ELNC and the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

Wire fraud carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, while tax evasion attracts up to five years. Sentencing proceedings are expected to follow.

Carter Efe’s Twitch Account Suspended Days After Becoming Africa’s Most-Followed Streamer

Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, widely known as Carter Efe, has suffered a major setback after his Twitch account was suspended just days after he emerged as Africa’s most-followed streamer on the platform.
The entertainer disclosed the development on Monday, December 23, 2025, via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he shared a screenshot of an email notification from Twitch. According to the message, his streaming account was placed under a temporary global suspension for violating Twitch’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. The platform, however, did not specify the exact nature of the violation.

In a follow-up post, Carter Efe expressed disappointment over the decision, revealing that the suspension would last for four months. He questioned the length of the ban, describing the situation as heartbreaking, especially given the timing of the action.

The suspension has sparked widespread reactions across social media, as it comes shortly after Carter Efe reached a historic milestone on Twitch. His rise on the platform gained massive momentum following a livestream on December 17, 2025, which featured Afrobeats superstar Davido. The broadcast not only went viral but also earned Carter Efe an endorsement deal with luxury brand Martell.

The livestream reportedly peaked at over 83,000 concurrent viewers and pushed his follower count beyond 405,000, making him the most-followed African creator on Twitch. This achievement saw him surpass fellow Nigerian comedian Shank Comics, the former record-holder. Carter Efe’s unique blend of comedy, music, and interactive content attracted a diverse audience across entertainment and gaming communities.

Several industry figures and creators celebrated the milestone, with Nigerian content creator Sydney Talker describing the achievement as a historic moment for digital creators in the country.

Meanwhile, visitors to Carter Efe’s Twitch page are now met with a notice stating: “This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.” The email shared by the comedian further warned that additional violations could attract more severe penalties in the future.

As fans continue to speculate about the reason behind the suspension, many have taken to social media to show support for the comedian, urging him to remain resilient while awaiting the end of the ban.

CrimePHOTOS: Teenager Allegedly Kills Elder Sister Over Robbery In Lagos by Emmalez(op): 10:29pm On Dec 15, 2025
A tragic incident has been reported involving a 19-year-old boy, Ikenna Onyebu, from Anambra State, who allegedly killed his elder sister, Chinwe Ofomatu, at her residence in Festac Town, Lagos.

According to available information, Chinwe had been living with her younger brother at her home on 403 Road, Festac, where she reportedly took responsibility for his welfare, including payment of his school fees and other expenses. Trouble reportedly began when Ikenna started associating with questionable friends and engaging in theft. Despite several attempts by Chinwe to correct his behaviour, the situation did not improve.

Sources say Chinwe eventually informed her brother that she would no longer sponsor his education and asked him to return to their village in Anambra State. After getting back to the village, Ikenna allegedly confided in a friend, identified as Nonso Okeke, 20, from Ichi in Anambra State. The two reportedly planned to travel to Lagos with the intention of killing Chinwe and robbing her.

It was gathered that they borrowed money to fund their journey and boarded a bus from Anambra to Lagos. They reportedly arrived in Lagos in the morning and went to Chinwe’s house at about 8:30am. On arrival, Ikenna was said to have had second thoughts about harming his sister, but his accomplice allegedly insisted, reminding him of the borrowed money and their plan to rob her.

Nonso allegedly entered the house first, with Ikenna following. Upon seeing them, Chinwe reportedly became frightened and attempted to raise alarm but was forced to keep quiet. While Ikenna was said to be engaging her in conversation, Nonso allegedly approached her from behind and strangled her with a wire, leading to her death.

After the act, the suspects reportedly searched the house and made away with jewellery, wristwatches, cash and other valuables before fleeing the scene.

Their escape was short-lived, as they were reportedly intercepted at a police checkpoint while riding on a commercial motorcycle. A search of their bags allegedly revealed ammunition, money, jewellery, wristwatches and other valuables. The suspects were arrested and reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Police were later led to Chinwe’s residence, where her lifeless body was recovered and taken to the mortuary.

The incident has sparked shock and outrage, serving as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of crime and betrayal within families.

PoliticsDemocracy Under Siege: How Tinubu's Emergency Rule Threatens Nigeria's Democrati by Emmalez(op): 12:46pm On Mar 28, 2025
Democracy Under Siege: How Tinubu's Emergency Rule Threatens Nigeria's Democratic Foundation

President Bola Tinubu's declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, without a doubt, has heralded a critical inflection point for Africa's most populous democracy. The unprecedented intervention, announced on March 18, 2025 has exposed deep fissures in Nigeria's constitutional framework and raised alarming questions about the future of democratic governance in the region, writes Precious Eze.

Constitutional Brinkmanship

The emergency declaration represents more than a localized political dispute. It is a profound challenge to Nigeria's federal structure, challenging the delicate balance of power between state and federal governments. Legal experts argue that President Tinubu has crossed a critical line by suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the entire State House of Assembly—a move that appears to stretch the Constitution's emergency provisions beyond their intended scope.

Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution permits emergency declarations under extreme circumstances such as war, natural disasters, or complete breakdown of public order. However, the wholesale removal of elected officials is not among the prescribed remedies. Senior Advocate of Nigeria Afam Osigwe and other constitutional scholars emphasize that such actions fundamentally undermine the democratic process.

The Political Chessboard

The crisis in Rivers State is symptomatic of deeper political tensions within Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). With the party holding a minority position in the National Assembly—155 of 360 House seats and 60 of 109 Senate seats—the emergency declaration's ratification appears increasingly problematic.

The constitutional requirement of a two-thirds majority (240 House and 72 Senate votes) seems mathematically challenging without significant bipartisan support. Critics argue that the voice vote approach represents a dangerous precedent of legislative rubber-stamping, effectively neutering the National Assembly's role as a critical check on executive power.

Broader Implications: Beyond Rivers State

Regional Volatility and Economic Risks

The intervention carries significant geopolitical and economic risks, particularly for the Niger Delta region. Historically, similar political interventions have sparked regional unrest and militancy. The area, crucial to Nigeria's oil-dependent economy, remains sensitive to political disruptions.

Key potential consequences include:

Investor Confidence Erosion: International observers and investment groups are closely monitoring the situation, with concerns about Nigeria's political stability.

Regional Tensions: The Niger Delta's complex history of resource control conflicts creates a powder keg of potential unrest.

Economic Vulnerability: Rivers State's strategic importance to national oil infrastructure means prolonged political instability could directly impact national revenue streams.

International Perception

The Association of Nigerian Professionals in Europe has already condemned the emergency rule as unconstitutional, warning of potential international diplomatic and economic repercussions. This global scrutiny threatens to tarnish Nigeria's image as a stable democratic nation.

Historical Context and Future Risks

Echoes of the Past

The current crisis bears uncomfortable similarities to the political instability that preceded Nigeria's First Republic collapse between 1966 and 1979. Political scientists warn that executive overreach can rapidly destabilize democratic institutions, especially in regions with complex historical and ethnic dynamics.

The growing pro-military sentiments across West Africa add another layer of complexity, raising fears of potential democratic backsliding.

Potential Paths Forward

Respected legal scholars and political analysts propose several critical interventions:

Judicial Review: Immediate constitutional challenge of the emergency declaration

Legislative Accountability: Rigorous scrutiny of the National Assembly's ratification process

Mediation: Diplomatic efforts to resolve underlying political conflicts in Rivers State

Conclusion: A Pivotal Moment for Nigerian Democracy

As legal scholar Abiodun Odusote pointedly notes, "The Constitution does not give the President absolute power." The Rivers State emergency represents a critical test of Nigeria's democratic resilience.

President Tinubu stands at a crossroads. The current approach risks setting a dangerous precedent that could fundamentally erode the principles of federalism and constitutional governance. Swift, measured, and legally sound resolution is imperative to prevent lasting damage to Nigeria's democratic institutions.

The world is watching.

PoliticsI Am No Longer Tinubu’s Aide – Fela Durotoye by Emmalez(op): 9:41am On Nov 19, 2024
A renowned Nigerian public speaker, Fela Durotoye has disclosed that he served in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for six months without receiving any remuneration.
Durotoye was appointed in October 2023 as the Senior Special Assistant on National Values and Social Justice. However, his role ended in March 2024.

His statement comes amid public criticism of the president’s numerous media-related appointments, sparked by the recent naming of Daniel Bwala as Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media.

Clarifying his position in an opinion piece published on Monday, Durotoye stated that he never held a media role and revealed that he neither received a salary nor allowances during his time as a government official.

Durotoye said: “Like many other issues in the public discourse, social commentary often has the tendency to overgeneralise; and broad assumptions may sometimes lead to errors of misconceptions, misstatements and misinformation.

“One of such errors is in a recent case study that went viral on social media regarding the current media team of the president, where my name was listed as one of the president’s media aides. Unfortunately, this statement needs to be updated to accurately reflect the current media team of the president.

“For clarity, I served briefly in the role of Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Values and Social Justice (SSA-NVSJ) for a tenure of six months, from October 2023 to March 2024.

“When I was invited to serve in this administration, I expressed, as a condition for accepting the call, my desire to NOT receive a salary from the government, as I considered this to be my service to my nation.

“When I finally accepted the role in October 2023, it was on the condition that I would not receive any salary or allowances. During my six-month tenure, I did not accept any government funds for my service, expenses, or upkeep.

“I rented my apartment and took my personal car to Abuja. My utility cost, fuel cost and upkeep were all borne by me and I never requested a reimbursement from the government for any expenses I incurred. Everything I contributed—time, effort, and resources—was paid for by me and my family.”

The recent revelation by the EFCC chairman has exposed a sinister plot to tarnish the reputation of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello. This campaign, driven by political motivations, aims to discredit Bello and hinder his future aspirations. However, it's essential to recognize that this smear campaign is a desperate attempt by the old political guard to maintain their grip on power and prevent the emergence of a youthful and vibrant leader.

Yahaya Bello's impressive performance during the APC presidential primary election has sent shockwaves to the political establishment, and it's clear that he poses a significant threat to their interests. His commitment to the youth and his vision for a better Nigeria resonates deeply with the younger generation, who are eager for change.

The EFCC's revelation has vindicated Bello, exposing the allegations against him as nothing more than a blackmail attempt. It's crucial for Nigerians, especially the youth, to see through this ploy and not allow the old political elite to dictate their future.

Bello's leadership style, which emphasizes inclusivity, empowerment, and development, aligns with the aspirations of Nigerian youth. He has demonstrated his capacity to drive positive change, and his dedication to the welfare of the people is unwavering.

As the 2027 elections approach, it's essential to recognize that Yahaya Bello is a beacon of hope for Nigerian youth. His emergence as a leader would signal a significant shift in the country's political landscape, paving the way for a more inclusive and dynamic governance.
