Whistle Blowing: EFCC Uncovers Another N4billion
A tip-off by a whistle blower on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 led to another discovery by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, of a staggering sum of N4billion suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Investigations as to the owner of the funds revealed that the money belongs to a former deputy governorship candidate in Niger State.
The suspect uses the names of two companies– Katah Property & Investment Limited and Sadiq Air Travel Agency- in laundering the funds.
Each of the company has N2billion fixed in its deposit account domiciled in Guaranty Trust Bank.
The suspected owner of the account and the account officer are currently on the run.

We’ve finally laid our hands on the picture of the man who raped a 12 year old boy to Death in Niger State.

The 12-year-old, identified only as Aminu, lost his life after he was sexually abused by one Abubakar, a tea seller in Ngwayanma, in the Kontagora area of Niger State.

Abubakar, aka Maishai, had reportedly abducted Aminu from his parents’ house sometime in March, and held him hostage in his (Abubakar’s) apartment. He was alleged to have severally had anal sex with Aminu for two weeks, until the victim fell ill.

It was gathered that a neighbour, who got wind of Aminu’s abduction, raised the alarm and reported the case to the police at the Kontagora division. While Abubakar was arrested, the boy was admitted to a hospital, where he died.

A police source said that Abubakar was arraigned in a Kontagora Chief Magistrate’s Court before the boy died, on two counts of abduction and unnatural offences, to which the defendant pleaded guilty.

“The unfortunate thing is that he was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with a fine of N30,000, which is ridiculous. The punishment generated a lot of outcry. But it is not the police’s fault. What the police can do is to appeal the case or file a new charge, now that boy is dead,” he added.

The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Elkana James, confirmed Aminu’s death, saying that the case had been transferred to the command headquarters in Minna.

He added that the suspect would be re-arraigned on a fresh charge of culpable homicide. He said, “He is still in prison, serving the one month’s imprisonment. Once the new charge is filed, he would be reproduced to take his plea.”

A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, would today, Tuesday, be ruling on the bail application of controversial journalist, Kemi Olunloyo.

Kemi was apprehended by security operatives and charged to court for publishing materials that were allegedly offensive to a frontline Port Harcourt-based cleric, Pastor David Ibiyeomie.

The journalist had earlier been arraigned at a magistrate’s court before the matter was transferred to the Federal High Court.

The application of her counsel, F.O. Lawal, for her bail had been opposed by the prosecution counsel, David Abuo. Abuo had told the court that in spite of her being remanded in prison, Olunloyo had been issuing threats through her Instagram page over her continued detention.

But her counsel insisted that Abuo’s argument in opposing Olunloyo’s bail fell under extraneous matters that were targeted at prejudicing the court.

However, the trial judge, Justice H.I.O. Shamah, fixed Tuesday, April 11 (today) for ruling on the bail application and continuation of hearing on the case.

Former Nigerian First Lady, Patience Jonathan, on Monday visited the Maitama branch of the Skyebank in Abuja to withdraw part of her $5.9million recently unfrozen by a Lagos High Court, but she met a brickwall.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had procured a stay-of-execution of the judgement and also simultaneously filed an appeal against the judgment given last week on 6 April by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun.

News spread quickly that she visited the bank on Monday, following another visit on Friday 7 April. Unconfirmed reports said that she wanted to withdraw as much as $1million, but was given $100,000 by the bank.

She returned at 10:00 a.m. and had a closed-door meeting with an Executive Director of the bank.

She finally left the bank at 4:05 p.m. but declined to speak to newsmen who sought to know why she was there.

One of her aides, who declined to disclose his name, told newsmen that “everything was okay”.

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Thursday vacated its order which in 2016 froze the Skye Bank account of the ex-first lady.

The account had a balance of $5.9 million dollars at the period.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, set aside the ‘No-Debit Order’ which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission earlier placed on the account on allegations that the money found in it was a proceed of crime.

Patience Jonathan’s lawyer, Mr Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), had urged the court to unfreeze Jonathan’s account on the grounds that she was not a party in the suit leading to the freezing order.

Citing judicial authorities, Adedipe contended that the suit was an abuse of court process as the court had no Jurisdiction to make an order against one who is not a party in a suit filed before the court.

The EFCC did not file a response against Adedipe’s suit.

The Rivers state commissioner for information and communication, Austin Tam-George has said his boss, Nyesom Wike, governor of the state, has survived five assassination attempts in 11 months.

It will be recalled that Wike had alleged that the inspector-general of police had mandated the police commissioner in the state to kill him, an allegation the force denied.

But in a statement issued on Monday, Tam-George accused the police of shying away from the truth.

He said the police was callous and insensitive to have claimed not being aware that the governor’s life was at risk.

“It is no secret that the APC government declared war on the government and people of Rivers state, soon after the party lost the governorship litigation at the supreme court in 2016,” he said.

“The first attempt to kill the governor was made immediately after the supreme court verdict.”

“The governor’s chief security officer was removed without any explanation, and the six police officers dismissed by the police in January played a key role in foiling the series of attempts to kill Wike.”

Tam-George said after several failed attempts, an offer of N150 million was made to two of the six dismissed police officers to kill the governor, but that the officers declined the offer.

“We call on the Interpol and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to lead an independent inquiry into why those gallant and patriotic officers were dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force on spurious charges of misconduct,” he said.

He also said the APC government was plotting to seize Rivers in 2019.

FIFA has granted media rights to five major broadcasting entities in the sub-Saharan Africa, following an open tender process for 42 territories in the region.

According to a statement from the FIFA Media Office, the tender was launched on Oct. 21 and it included the media rights to all 2017-2018 FIFA events.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that these included the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

The statement listed five broadcasters as those awarded certain media rights with regard to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

These are Econet Media, Supersport, South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), StarTimes and CANAL+.

“Econet Media, by way of free-to-air and pay-TV transmission for exploitation in all territories of sub‑Saharan Africa, except South Africa.

“Supersport, by way of pay-TV transmission for exploitation in all territories of sub‑Saharan Africa.

“SABC, by way of free-to-air transmission for exploitation in South Africa.

“StarTimes, by way of pay-TV transmission for exploitation in all territories of sub-Saharan Africa except South Africa.

“CANAL+, by way of pay-TV transmission for exploitation in all territories of sub-Saharan Africa except South Africa and Nigeria.’’

The statement also listed four of the five broadcasters, with the exception of CANAL+, as those awarded certain media rights with regard to other 2017‑2018 FIFA events.

“Econet Media, by way of free-to-air and pay-TV transmission for exploitation in all territories of sub-Saharan Africa except South Africa.

“Supersport, by way of pay-TV transmission for exploitation in all territories of sub‑Saharan Africa.

“SABC, by way of free-to-air transmission for exploitation in South Africa.

The statement added that the outcome of this tender process enables FIFA to reach its aim of securing the widest possible coverage across the region.

“This allows the highest profile matches to be available on a free-to-air basis.’’

It said FIFA has assured of access to high-quality viewing experience for all its events worldwide.

“By working together with reliable partners in the region, FIFA will make sure that football fans have access to a high-quality viewing experience for each of the FIFA events, including by way of digital platforms.

“We are delighted to work with our appointed broadcast partners in the sub-Saharan region to allow millions of fans to enjoy each of FIFA’s various events across a multitude of platforms,” FIFA’s Chief Commercial Officer Philippe Le Floc’h said.

The statement listed the 42 territories in the region to include Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic (CAR), Chad, Congo, Congo DR and Côte d’Ivoire.

Others are Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger and Nigeria.

The rest are Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

NAN reports that the 2017-2018 FIFA events comprise the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2017, FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 and FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2017.

The rest are the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017, FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2018, FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2018 and 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Police have launched an investigation after human waste was discovered in a shipment of Coke cans in at the Knockmore Hill facility in Lisburn, Ireland.

The discovery was made during after the night shift was disrupted when stunned workers peeked into the cans and saw the waste after the machines became clogged.

The affected cans arrived from a German supplier that hadn’t been used previously.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the cans arrive at the factory without tops on, and are then filled with drink before being sealed and sold across Northern Ireland.

However, Coca-cola has confirmed the shock discovery was an isolated incident and didn’t affect any products currently on sale, as all the affected cans have been impounded.

Coca-cola said; “The problem was identified immediately through our robust quality procedures and all of the product from the affected production was immediately impounded and will not be sold.

“This is an isolated incident and does not affect any products currently on sale.”

Local politician Pat Catney said the incident “begs belief.”

“I am not sure how contamination could have come about,” he said. “They are sticklers for hygiene, cleanliness and about contamination.

“We shall have to wait for the police investigation. But it is a state-of-the art factory. I have been around it and this is one of the most professiona

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the ongoing police investigation on the disappearance of a delivery associate of one of our partners which has been possibly linked to the recovery of a deceased body by police investigators.

The associate was employed by our third-party logistics partner in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Jumia Nigeria’s regional management is working full time with the partner, the local police and the family of the associate to investigate the case.

While the full facts are yet to be known, the delivery associate was reported to have been last seen on Saturday during his delivery runs. We thus await the results of police investigation on the matter.

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Rev. Mathew Hassan Kukah has said the former president of the country, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan never gave him a penny while he was in office despite their friendship.

The cleric revealed this in a recent interview granted to The Interviewer

Kukah who noted that there was never an exchange of a penny or a dollar between him and the former president said: “Despite my friendship with Jonathan over this long period of time, we never discussed a penny.”

He added: “We never discussed one dollar; we never exchanged a penny, and we never exchanged a dollar.”
