Kindly educate me on this. If you select to reinvest your interest, that is effective every quarter correct? Which means the interest from January would not be added to your capital until 1st of April? Instead of waiting for 3 months for the interest to be reinvested, would you recommend to opt for monthly payout of the interest every month and then deposit the same back as top up? That way your capital increases every month, so as your gain. I feel like there is an opportunity cost by holding that interest for 3 months before reinvesting it. Please let me know your thought on this.
Please note that there is no option for a monthly payout of accrued interest. It's always done at the end of every quarter. The truth is that all accrued interest can only be utilized at the end of each quarter, whether you opt for reinvest or pay out.

However, every month, there is a transaction for reinvestment for those who picked that option, but the funds will only be part of your capital and begin earning interest at the end of each quarter.

Hello all. Quick question please. While Investing in Stanbic MMF, can you top up your investment on a month to month basis, if that's possible, how does affect compiled interest and payouts.

Also, I'd clicked the option of quarterly payouts while signing up, how can I change that to the 'reinvestment option'
1. You can top up at any interval and with any amount from 5k. Interest is always on the available balance each day; hence, your interest increases with top-up and decreases with part redemption.

2. To change your interest utilization mandate, send an email to customer care to indicate your intention; they will send you an account update form where you can now indicate your new option.

This is the method to change interest utilization for most fund managers.

Good day, everyone,

I understand that FCMB public offer shares have been allotted. How can I check my allotment?

Also, is there any timeline for when Fidelity Bank shares will be allotted?
Send an email to your stockbroker and ask for your current cscs statement. If your subscription form was filled out correctly with your cscs number and CHN indicated, both stocks will be in your cscs. The shares of both companies were allotted in February.

They probably want to bring it to the ngx.

By the way, I downloaded the NASD app but it never worked. Does anyone know why, please?
You need to first open a NASD cscs account with a stockbroking firm that trades on that platform. You can do that with investment one stockbrokers.
When you have that done, you can download the app, and one of the processes during registration on the app will involve the stockbroking firm where you have the NASD account because the NASD must link your trading app with a stockbroking firm.

Like they will convert the NGN to USD?

If yes, at what exchange rate?
The rate is determined in real-time at the moment you want to invest.

They can't state a rate till the time of investing because it fluctuates, which is obvious.

@sky404 Please note the following about MMF.

- it's not like a fixed deposit.
- it's not tenor-based, investors determine the duration of the investment. it can be as short as 30 days or as long as one lives.
- rates are per annum but are daily valued and varies according to the valuation of the underlying assets. It's not a flat rate.
- true it can be compounded but you can't have specifics since rates are not fixed.
- there is no WHT charged on your interest on MMF - that is one of the advantages over fixed deposit apart from the higher rate.
- the rate you see displayed is net of mgt charges. Hence there is no other deduction on your interest.

With the above in mind, and reinvestment of interest in mind, if you invest 15m at today's rate of 22.3% you will have about 3,346,500 for 1 year and that means you will earn
about 9,168.49 every day till when you decide to liquidate. You are most like going to earn more if the rate goes higher within the given period or vice versa.

Please apart from stanbic mmf, is there any other money market fund that pays out the interest/returns monthly instead of quarterly?
All fund managers Stanbic inclusive pay accrued interest quarterly. However, if you opt for reinvestment of interest, Stanbic reinvest accrued interest monthly.

Pls House,
I just read somewhere now that the National Bureau of Statistics has disclosed that Nigeria’s headline inflation has dropped to 24.48 per cent in January 2025,
following the rebasing of the consumer price index,

Therefore,
How will this affect the rates in money market funds & Treasury Bills??

will investing in mmf & Treasury Bills still be that lucrative??
Rates will not always be high and vice versa. When we get there the market will give investors direction. Mainhile enjoy the current rates while it last.

Batman2412:
you can give them NIN slip or Rent Receipt as utility bill
Proof of Address Document

For Stanbic, documents that can be used in place of utility that bears your name:

Any government- issued ID that carries your address

NIN slip

Bank account statement

In all cases, the address on the document you are presenting in place of utility bill, should be the address you will write on the account opening form during registration.

For Norrenberger and others, a utility bill not older than three months will fly irrespective of the name it bears.

Everyone can invest

For those still procrastinating on investment because of the level of your income, note this:

Every income category can invest, it's only the amount that differs the rate is the same for a particular product.
You get as much as you put in.

Are u talking to a novice.. I have been doing tbills for some years bros. 100k is the least amount an individual should put in.
Please note: That the banks allow 100k doesn't mean that it's the minimum amount. Different financial institutions have their different minimum required deposit to participate in the primary auction. The Minimum amount to participate in the primary acuction as stipulated by the federal government through the DMO is actually 50m, this will enable you bid at your own rate. Anything less than that, you have to go with the rate of the bank otherwise you will not be able to participate in the primary auction.

This is also one of the reasons the monthly federal government savings bond is issued to take care of the lower sprecrum of investors, in that case the maximum for savings bond is 50m while 5,000 is the minimum.

I read you well.

But how is this mmf rate calculated??

How is it calculated per year & per day & per month??

I am seeing 20% here from IBTC,

is the 20% permanent throughout the year or does it go down??

How is this done??

quote author=emmasoft post=134055789]Choice of MMF Managers
Stanbic MMF is currently 22.01% and this is per annum. Calculated by using the simple interest formula. All government controlled investment is always per annum but are prorated accordingly base on the particular investment type. e.g Tbills protated to 3 months, 6 months etc.

In the case of MMF, it's prorated to daily and it's also daily valued such that the rate fluctuates base on the daily evalution of the underlying assets, currently the range of movement of the rate is bwtween 20 to 23.5% in the industry.

Choice of MMF Managers

When it comes to MMF Managers it's like a case of people viewing the elephant from different sides. Each will report how the elephant looks like depending on the side they are viewing from.

When picking a fund manager, these are what to look at for:

If the firm and the product is registered with SEC
There is a Custodian bank
a Trustees
The rate for MMF is always in a range and it's daily valued. The rate of a firm may be high today, and could be down the next day. But once it's within the rage in the industry you are good to go.
All MMF benchmark their MMF rate with the 3 months TBills.

Most of the other things considered by customers of various firms are subjective and more of personal experiences and choices.

The safety of your money with any of the firm is not determined by the popularity or largeness of the firm.

All MMF has the same status irrespective of the fund managers whether the firm is just starting out or has been in business for years or in a bank holdco or not.

Let's be well guided.

Hello,

I just opened a Stanbic Account and topped up.. I use the link on you profile.

I just got a response this morning and the top up has not reflected in my account.
If the top up was done after 12 pm your funds will reflect after COB today.

That is how it works, all deposit before noon have same day value and returns while deposits done after 12pm gets next business day value and returns. Please check again much later today you will see it reflected.

Thanks for the patronage.

Hello guys

Please i have a question that bothers me a bit.

When placing a buy order on my app (Meritrade) it gives me option of Market and Limit price. With different good for day(s).
I tried selecting limit one time (with option of good for 7 days).
Previously i had been trading using market price and good for the day.

Please can someone explain what the differences are, what conditions each option is best and which to stick to?
Though I don't use meritrade, I use investment one and I know most of the stockbroking apps have similar configuration

Market price - This option means you buy at the prevailing offer price. In most cases picking this option will make you buy at the highest price compare to other bidders. This option is best used when a stock is tending towards full bid otherwise it's a big disadvantage especially for a market tending towards full offer.

Price Limit gives investors/traders option of bidding a price within +/-10% of the opening price of a stock. In this case, you determine the price you wish to buy or sell a stock.

However, you can't bid lower than 10% or higher than 10% of the opening price of a stock. The advantage here is obvious you buy at your own price. Hence you sometimes read on this thread of folks saying I'm waiting at my junction to enter a stock They can actually wait sometimes by placing a bid at a price limit . The disadvantage is that you may miss out of stock that is having a good rally because while waiting at a particular price, the stock may keep rising in price and gone beyond your acceptable price.

Good for the day or any number of days is instructing the system to keep your bid on a stock for such and such number of days.
From your example: Good for the day means your bid is valid for just that day ie if no deal your money returns back to your trading account
while good for 7 days means keep my bid valid for 7 days or any number of days you picked or the system allows.

I hope this help.

Pls do mmf also pay dividends as they pay daily interest on amount invested?
My thought is that mmf only pay return on investment as daily interest.pls I need a clarification on this.
MMF don't pay interest daily rather interest is accrued daily and it's paid/reinvested every quarter depending on your option during registration

Do not do any transfer from an ATM machine or online as ATM machines or online card transactions do not have provision for narrative where you are expected to put your e-account. If you do not have a Mobile App for that account or your transfer limit is below the amount you want to transfer, just walk up to the branch of the bank of the account and do the transfer.
