how do I delete/deactivate/shutdown a stanbic mmf account??
To discontinue your MMF account, simply do liquidation request ie withdraw both capital and accrued interest.

However, MMF is not treated like bank account.

The account is actually still there and can be active again if you decide to fund it.

Hello, everyone.

I have an existing Stanbic IBTC mutual funds account and I have a running money market fund investment.

Will it be possible to create another Stanbic IBTC mutual fund account for myself for the purpose of running another money market fund investment?

I'd like to have 1 for long term and another for short term. Thank you
It's not possible using the same details, I wouldn't know if that has changed presently.

Why not open another MMF with another fund manager.

The same thing yours sincerely did, using stanbic and Norrenberger, one for personal pension while the other for emergency fund.

ok but does that mean the total return is just for record or will be paid at the end of the year
The quarterly dividend is the accrued interest that is either paid to your bank account or reinvested at the end of each quarter while the total returns means all the interests you have either collected or reinvested since you started your MMF investment.

Hello everyone,

I was hoping to see some market outlooks from our fund managers, but I haven't come across any. I'd like to share my own outlook for the year.

Currency:Given Nigeria's import dependence, exchange rates are crucial. With significant investments incoming in the oil and gas sector, I expect dollar inflows, leading to a relatively stable exchange rate. Devaluation might be limited to 10-15%.

Rates: I believe current high rates are unsustainable, especially for the government. I predict a rate cut, possibly in Q3.

Equities:If exchange rates remain stable, I see the equity market outperforming fixed income. My top picks are financials, oil and gas, and telecoms.

Investment Strategy:

- Low-risk investors: Consider bonds (savings bonds, Treasury bills) for long-term and short-term goals and 40% money market fund.
- Average-risk investors: Allocate 20% to equities, 30% to bonds, 30% to money market, and 20% to Treasury bills/commercial papers.
- High-risk investors: Allocate 15% to equity mutual funds, 10% to savings bonds, 10% to Treasury bills 15% money market fund, and 50% to stocks.

I'd love to hear from our experienced investors and fund managers. Please share your insights!

Disclaimer: This is my personal opinion and not investment advice. Please consult your investment advisor before making any decisions.
@ernie4life, great post. You said it all as per your outlook on both the fixed income and stock investments. To a large extent the outlook looks positive this year.

However, to benefit in any situation in the economy, individual investor must stick to their investment objectives and invest in what aligns with their risk tolerance.

Good day all. I'm a newbie and I have following thins thread for some days now. I want to ask, is it possible for someone to loose money in this mutual fund investment?
Also, what is the best fund manager to use?
I see a lot of complaints about stanbic ibtc.
To your first question the answer is YES and NO.

Yes, if the mutual fund is equity base or balance fund. Basically the underlying assets determine the risk involved in any mutual fund.

No, if the mutual fund is money market fund. It's not possible to lose money here because the underlying asset is basically treaury bills.

The word best is relative so it will not be possible to just say a particular fund manager is the best. Different customers have different experiences with different managers. Customers rate managers base on what they are looking at for - rate, customer service, online presence and easy of navigation etc.

You can chat me up if you need more guide.
By the way I use and represents Stanbic, Norrenberger and SFS capital.

Well, it is noted. But currently, I'm pissed with Stanbic. Their onboarding and communication process is not what it should be. For instance, I registered with them, provided necessary details and KYC documents via the online portal and have been crediting my account steadily amounting to millions of Naira, they never send a mail that my account is in tier 1. I requested for redemption for over 24hrs, it was not processed. Same KYC details I provided other mmf operators, I used to redeem and was credited with 3hrs.

I put a call across to Stanbic to enquire why my redemption was not processed, they told me my KYC is incomplete blabla, they sent me amother onboarding form and that I should provide my KYC details all again.

This is so annoying, why wasn't I informed all these while that my account is in tier 1? Meanwhile I have provided all of these via the online portal.

And I urgently need the money cos after sending them the KYC details again and following up with call, they said 48hrs to process KYC. Same thing is happening to a friend . This is very annoying.
I'm sure your concerns are getting attention as discussed.

Sorry my question may look meaningless, but can someone with 1milion,partake in primary bid, and what is the interest rate for a year.
Lastly must I have an account in that bank?
Thanks.
Wema app treasure bill interest rate is 17% for 241days , I'm looking for a better offer
For most banks, with as low as 100k, you can participate in primary auction. Normally, once your money is less than 50m, it's always best/compulsory to go with the bank rate. Primary market rate always come out at the end of the auction, you can only make reference to the last rate which was around 22%+ For any bank you wish to use, definitely you have to be a customer of that bank otherwise you don't have a relationship with them.

What you saw on Wema app is secondary market rate and it's always lower than primary acuction rate all things being equal.

I will also advice you to read more on how Tbills work. This thread is a good source of material.

Okay. This also apply if you as a customer do a transfer and your e-account was not stated as narration, the evidence of payment should also be sent to the customer care otherwise it's not necessary.

Thank you very much
I don't understand T-bills this year before bidding is usually twice a week but recently I have been reading on this trend once in two weeks. Is bidding no longer Mon to Fri
The process has not changed. The primary auction is just one day which is once in every two weeks. It's usually a wednesday, where Tbills are issued, but you can bid for Tbills any working day of the week (on or before the Tuesday preceding the primary auction day.). Hence you can still bid for the primary auction of this week by tomorrow morning.

However, secondary market activities (bidding and issue) of Tbills is every working day of the week.

Go to the bank very early. Banks like stanbic will still accept bid by 10am otherwise you wait for another two weeks for primary auction.

Bro, a friend started Stanbic mmf recently using your link, she needed money and wanted liquidate her money but a pop up shows that 100k of the money is on lien. She could not access all. So 100k was kept in the account and was denied her. Pls I have not experienced this before and know nothing to Tel her.
MMF does not place a lien on any capital. The only message that can pop up when liquidating is to inform you that there will be 20% charge on any amount that is not up to 30 days in the total amount she is withdrawing except it's another type of mutual fund.

She can reach out to me or to customer care.

This is not fixed per se, as the rates can change on a daily basis depending on different factors.
The rate as at this minute is 21.10%, and if it remains constant for a month and you put in 100k, you'd be getting approx 1,758.33 as monthly interest
In addition, the rate is per annum, it's only prorated to daily.

Main while inflation rate is now 34.80% as rerleased today by the NBS. The implication is that MMF rates will remain up.

The Norrenberger MMF: 22.26% is in dollar right? And do they also pay out interest every 3 months?
No. The products are in naira.

Interest accrued daily and will be paid/reinvested every three months depending on your option.

The norrenberger dollar fund is 10.02% and currently one of the highest if not the highest in the industry

What is the current rate presently?

Is there any joint account with MMF?
Stanbic MMF: 20.98%

Norrenberger MMF: 22.26%

SFS fixed income fund: 19.01%

Yes, you can have joint account with Stanbic or Norrenberger, basically all MMF allows joint and corporate accounts.

However, you will need the account opening form not online for the joint or coporate registration.

How investors put MMF to work

It's no longer a mystery that MMF is a low-risk investment and it's the easiest and best form of investment for conservatives and risk-averse investors.

MMF serves different purposes for designing investors. Here are some of them:

Emergency funds. As the name implies, many investors instead of just keeping their cash for emergencies in the regular MDBs prefer to invest it in high-interest MMF since it's pretty easy to get part or all your money when the need arises

Personal pension. The fact that there are some protocols one has to pass through and the amount that is available to a retiree form the regular employer-employee contributory pension, MMF is used by many as a personal pension scheme, in this case, you get your money instantly at retirement and that at your own terms.

Target savings. Most people may not have the required funds for a particular project at a particular time but from business or work, they could save to accomplish a project or any goal. MMF is used for such target savings like school fees, rent, real estate purchases, gifts for a special person in our lives, even for detty December or for vacations while enjoying high interest.

Savings account. Some investors use MMF as a regular savings account. They just draw funds for weekly spending at the beginning of the week and any amount left in the MMF enjoys high rate, no deduction, and fees like the regular bank account is known for.

Joint Investment portfolio for the family. The fact that MMF can be run as a joint account makes it suitable for family investment where spouses keep funds together for future spending or project

Kiddies account. Many investors use MMF as a way of keeping money for their kids and allowing them to take over when they turn 18. It's also used for training children and wards on imbibing investment culture.

Next time you hear about MMF understand it's great investment moves that can help serve you at different times and for different purposes.

Is there any MMF firm that pays interest monthly?
All government regulated investment rates are per annum which is then prorated based on the particular investment. For MMF, it's prorated to daily earnings and accrued. The best you can do is to pick interest reinvestment and then withdraw the amount from your balance every month.
There is no MMF that gives interest per month.

Your money is safe, no matter how long you keep your money in MMF. The truth is that many investors uses MMF as personal pension. I know clients who have been in MMF for more than 10 years and still running. Some clients that started from the inception of stanbic MMF are still there.

When you have more money you are concerned with safety, consistency and scalability.

If one uses 100k to start akara business at Oshodi bus stop and you made a profit of 500k at the end of the year

Do you think investing N10 million in this business will give a return of N50 million at the end of the year
oga Emma u nailed it. This is exactly what I try to explain to some folks who contact me: everything is not just rate. when the capital is huge the 1st thing is the safety of the capital. Return of capital is always the first consideration, followed by return on capital. Imagine an investor with 2 billion naira all his questions about any proposed investment to him will be around how the 2 billion will come back before considering the proposed rate. The truth is that investors of such magnitude of fund will question any high rate.

Why does the rate on this mmf go up and down but those of fixed deposit amd tbils are fixed? And Please bosses what's the best between Money market fund and tills?
MMF rates is not fixed because is daily valued, This is how MMF works globally and more so because it's not tenor based so investors get their returns based on when they entered and exited the fund.

Some reasons why I will Prefer MMF to Tbills

You can start mmf with much lower amount compared to tbills. With 5,000 you can start investing in Stabbic mmf. The least for tbills is 100k.

When rate increases, it will not affect already invested funds in tbills but it does with mmf

You can't top up with tbills. Top up is very possible with mmf even if you want daily top up.

Terminating before tenor expiration in tbills comes with penalties. For mmf after just 30 days, exit is without penalties.

mmf has other instruments like commercial papers that contributes to its rate.

You can easily automate reinvestment of interest in mmf ie taking advantage of the power of compound interest.

It's the investor that determines mmf tenor hence you can hold mmf as long as you wish no restrictions, tbills particularly primary auction has fixed tenors 3 months, 6 months or 1 year.

Right now mmf rates is on the rise.

However, that is not to say Tbills is a bad investment. The one you pick MMF or TBills actually depends on the reason for investing among other factors which most times are peculiar to the investor.
