I feel much ‘safer’ talking about this now. I am so sick of the constant bickering between Yorubas and Igbos. I am sick of you all coming for each other’s throat non stop. Where does it end? Do you all actually have the interest of this country at heart because you do NOT. You are playing to the gallery of the ruling class. Playing exactly what they cooked for you. I am extremely disappointed in millennials and Gen Z’s especially. I thought we were different? I thought we were better? instead we have successfully shown again and again that we can be manipulated and played like football. Why can’t you people take a fuxxing second and take a few steps back to actually understand your differences? Yorubas and Igbos are NOT the same and will never be the same. Not in this generation or the next. The way we raise our children are very different. Our culture is very different, our religion, our way of life. We have very little that is cross dimensional between us. But somehow we have managed to make it work till now. Yorubas consistently accuse Igbos of being rude. Not just on social media but in real life. But if you take a few seconds to actually understand how Igbos were brought up and raised, you will understand that they do not have a culture where they defer to authority. They do not have a culture of silence in the face of wrongdoing or persecution. The way they will talk to you a yoruba person is the exact way they will talk to an Igbo or Hausa person. It has NOTHING to do with you and you need to take your head out of your ass. Igbos consistently accuse Yorubas of being cowards. This narrative needs to end now. Because if you take a second to understand yoruba culture, you will understand that we DEFER to authority. We have obas, kings, community leaders whose opinions ‘matter’ than ours. It is how we were ‘raised’. I once saw a comment that said we had few yoruba feminists because Yorubas were raised in communities where equality existed. It is very untrue. We have a culture where we are not allowed to question anything. Sure women can be family leaders, but you can not challenge authority and get away with it. We are so hell bent on what ‘respect’ means that many of us get angry when we don’t see it in others. I will give you a personal example. Growing up, everytime I introduced my friends to my uncle he said in yoruba (you are always moving with omo Igbo, don’t you have yoruba friends?). As I grew older, I realized why he raised that point. Because I became very different from the typical yoruba girl child. I will not respect any elder who doesn’t respect himself or herself. Respect has always been reciprocal to me even as a teenager. So if you disrespect me in anyway, you are getting it right back. And I know now that he thought I was being influenced by ‘Omo Igbo’. I am even way worse now as an adult. I respect everyone who comes my way. But if you bring any disrespect close to me, doesn’t matter if you are 19 or 79, you will receive it in equal dose and measure pressed down, shaken together and running over. AKA, you will collect and you won’t do it again. If you compare me to all the yoruba girlfriends I have had in my entire life, I am an anomaly and different. If you compare me to all the Igbo girlfriends I have had in my life, we are extremely similar in character and personality. You need to consider how people were raised when you are dealing with them. Because despite the initial gragra a lot of the Gen Z and millennial Igbos exhibit on social media, a lot of them only want what’s best for Nigeria. Not what’s best for Anambra or Enugu. They are wholly and fully Nigeria centric when it comes to politics and growth. As much as it sucks for you to admit, they will vote a very competent Yoruba person or a competent Hausa person over an incompetent Igbo person. And it all boils down to their upbringing. They do not defer to authority no matter who you are. Yorubas are very welcoming. One of the most welcoming if not the most in Nigeria. A yoruba person will open their one bedroom house to 5 other people. Take it or leave it, I genuinely believe we are the most welcoming ethnic group in Nigeria. I also know we are not the most industrious neither are we pace setters. And right after the north east, we are next in line to choose tribe over competence. You all need to stop insulting your cultures, traditions, religion, food and everything else in between. So many times I have read on Facebook how yorubas cook terrible food. It’s extremely rude and insensitive when you post stupid things like how can anyone use tomato in egusi. Sure you don’t use it in yours and if you wanted to learn, you will actually post and ask a reasonable question. It doesn’t matter if Yorubas use a gallon of palm oil to cook their soup, it’s none of your business. If you don’t want to eat it, walk away. You can call out bullshit and still respect other people’s culture. You can banter with your friends offline but don’t get it twisted, Nigeria is not developed enough for us to have more than jollof wars. Any slurs against another tribe’s food or culture will automatically send signals up their spine. There is a subset of each tribe that hates each other. But you better believe when I tell you that it’s a very small subset. Because once we step outside Nigeria, we automatically forget our tribes. There are so many differences that we have and you need to take it into account when dealing with each other. The way that Mary expresses her anger with me is different from the way Tana expresses her anger with me and the way Toyo expresses her anger with me and the way Kate expresses her anger with me. These are 4 different girls from 4 different cultures. But the way that Mary handles issues is the way most of my Igbo girlfriends handle issues. The way that Toyo handle issues is the way most of my yoruba friends handle issues. The way that Kate handle things is the way that most of my white friends including my ex’s handle issues. Because despite the fact that each individual is different, we are all shaped by our cultures and traditions. And while cultures can sometimes be stereotypical, this is where individual differences comes into play. And if you want to learn how to handle people, you need to first learn their culture and respect it. A typical Indian person at work will most likely use sir or ma to address you. They will respect you but you bet your ass they won’t stand up for you. They will protect their own over you. A white person won’t use sir or ma for you, but the non racist one will protect you over their own. And once you understand these cultural differences, you learn how to better navigate relationships. Instead of spending all your time on social media bickering and cursing each other out, learn each other’s culture and learn how to communicate with each other. --- Omotoyosi Ogunbanwo (copied) |

Did this slowpoke thought about the amount of crude oil deposits in Nigeria. That bad governments policies brought up these sufferings. |
"If i'm sleeping and wake up to hear Yorubas beating the drum of war, i'll go back to sleep" - IBB, 1993. Bola Tinubu fortunately in this circumstances is a Yoruba, so Nigeria is not going to war in Niger Republic. Go back to sleep is the instruction. It takes two to tango. Tinubu is standing alone in this regard. The north have disappointed him. Illegality is embodiment of lies, Lies does last. |
Odin13:Naturally Yoruba and garagara are interrelated. They talk Jinja without throwing one punch. |
Angelfrost:If they like sell it #1,500 like dollar speculations Igbos must travel for Xmas. Government should also spread cement licence than to continue with Dangote Monopoly. |
There comes in every man's life when you must speak the truth no matter what, no matter who is involved. Regardless of tribe, ethnicity, gender, social statues, party affiliations or political interests, personal emotions and related sentiments. My prime point; Is Bola Ahmed Tinubu the best thing happening in the country Nigeria today? What is the economic benefits of exchange rate 1$ for #950? Turning around to pay #90,000 for 45mins local flights. Petrol between #590-650 per litre depending the petrol station or the location. No price control!! Food and other essentials are nolonger affordable. My next question is; what have APC government done good that may motivate a sane mind to give them votes to continue for another 4years or possible 8yrs? To Agbadorians who are wishfully waiting for Tinubu's victory in the tribunal, I humbly recommend psychological counseling and psychiatric care for you because in all these high cost of living salaries and wages remains the same. No upgrades for salaries/wages structures or sign or intention to add values to workers hence crime rate keep escalating to heights. Who cause these incalculable situations? Goodluck Jonathan or PDP i think ? My Olaniyi brothers, sisters, friends and fanatical supporters of APC have lost strength for arguments. Slowly they are vanishing from social media as usual. Acting before thinking is represented in their DNA... Packing my bags. |
