Religion / Is Speaking In Tongues An Evidence Of Holy Spirit Baptism? by emmyileri(m): 11:53pm On Apr 27

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqlDfkf1ENA&t=736s
There are three occasions in the book of Acts where speaking in tongues accompanied the receiving of the Holy Spirit: Acts 2:4, 10:44-46, and 19:6. However, these three occasions are the only places in the Bible where speaking in tongues is an evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit. Throughout the book of Acts, thousands of people believe in Jesus and nothing is said about them speaking in tongues (Acts 2:41, 8:5-25, 16:31-34, 21:20). Nowhere in the New Testament is it taught that speaking in tongues is the only evidence that a person has received the Holy Spirit. In fact, the New Testament teaches the opposite. We are told that every believer in Christ has the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:13-14), but not every believer speaks in tongues (1 Corinthians 12:29-31).

So, why was speaking in tongues the evidence of the Holy Spirit in those three passages in Acts? Acts 2 records the apostles being baptized in the Holy Spirit and empowered by Him to proclaim the gospel. The apostles were enabled to speak in other languages (tongues) so they could share the truth with people in their own languages. Acts 10 records the apostle Peter being sent to share the gospel with non-Jewish people. Peter and the other early Christians, being Jews, would have a hard time accepting Gentiles (non-Jewish people) into the church. God enabled the Gentiles to speak in tongues to demonstrate that they had received the same Holy Spirit the apostles had received (Acts 10:47, 11:17).

Acts 10:44-47 describes this: "While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, 'Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.'" Peter later refers back to this occasion as proof that God was indeed saving the Gentiles (Acts 15:7-11).

Speaking in tongues is nowhere presented as something all Christians should expect when they receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and are therefore baptized in the Holy Spirit. In fact, out of all the conversion accounts in the New Testament, only two record speaking in tongues in that context. Tongues was a miraculous gift that had a specific purpose for a specific time. It was not, and never has been, the only evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit.

Words are powerful that's why most churches use "for better for best"
It's not a prayer it's an oath. No matter what it's they will face challenges. The oath is that even if things turn worse I'll stay with you and keep the covenant of marriage as ordained by God. However, if what she says meant that she will only stay with the man when things are going well, then that marriage has ended before it began. The truth is that life has a funny way of dealing with people. At the end she might be the onev at the mercy of the husband with regards to the word of her mouth

From some statements ALREADY made here, it's clear that many doesn't even know, what the baptism of fire means.
Jesus made it clear that without that baptism of fire, which is the HOLY GHOST baptism, one cannot make heaven, Jesus said, you must be born of water and of the Spirit
And Peter said, you must repent and be baptized and then you shall receive the holy spirit, which is that baptism of fire.
John the Baptist said, I baptize you with water but he that is coming after me whose shoe I an not worthy to untie, He will baptize you with fire.
This is the key to the kingdom of God which Jesus promised when He said, "and I will give you the key to the kingdom and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it"
Finally this is what Jesus meant when He said that
""""And the comforter, which is the HOLY SPIRIT, which my father will send in my name..... He will teach you all things"""
And this comforter is Jesus himself as he said in John 14:18
"" I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to you"""
The moment this Spirit of Jesus enters you, you were sure of your salvation because from this moment, you will never be comfortable with sin again, this is so because if by any chance you fall into sin, you will never be comfortable until you make peace with God again,
This is what Jesus said to God, all those that you gave to me, none of them will be Lost, I will bring them all back.
This is the baptism of fire and there is a process if getting it.
This is not for everyone to understand or accept but those for whom it is meant will easily understand and accept it.
Sorry to say Holy Spirit baptism is not the same with the baptism of fire. I did the Bible based explanation in the link that I posted. Watch the video please. You will appreciate the need of studying the Bible on your own rather than interpreting the Bible based on what others interpret it to be.

This isn't about what I know but about what your gods of men teach; their primary focus is on the difference between the rich and the poor. It all boils down to just that at the end of the day. undecided

2. Pursuing righteousness according to whose specification? God's or men? Because, again, your gods of men primarily focus on ideas that are of the world and minds of men and nothing of righteousness as decreed by God. If I asked you what God said of the works that are to be done by the righteous, I am almost certain you would not know of them. undecided'

3. Matthew 6 vs 33 speaks rather of obedience to God's Law - the overarching mandate for all who claim to believe in Jesus Christ; and I can also bet that you don't even know of at least 10 out of the almost 100 teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ. Righteousness only comes up after one has attained holiness, not before. lipsrsealed

You mean you were instead referring to the suffering of the rich, like Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, and the lot? shocked shocked shocked shocked
Is this all you know about life? The rich and the poor? Is life not more than mere money that is an added advantage of pursuing righteousness according to Mathew 6:33. Salvation is personal, Christian journey is personal. What is your business with how people abuse other Christians and took advantage of them. Will God use them to judge you. For we shall all stand before the judgment throne of Christ individually, whether good or evil.

Yet your many religious leaders β€” your godsβ€” bask in wealth and live lavish lives from the offerings and tithes they collect from you all. When they are sick, they fly out or make sure they get nothing but the best care possible for themselves, all while you, their gullible followers continue to believe in this idea of baptism of suffering being unique to them as a result of their faith. Is this not intention blindness? undecided
So much for your "knowledge". How does suffering translate to poverty alone? You need help! And if your Christianity is based on what others do or don't do. Don't you think you have already missed your way. Christianity is personal as much as salvation is personal.

In all four Gospel passages mentioned above, Mark and John speak of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but only Matthew and Luke mention the baptism with fire. The immediate context of Matthew and Luke is judgment (Matthew 3:7-12; Luke 3: 7-17). The context of Mark and John is not (Mark 1:1-8; John 1:29-34). We know that the Lord Jesus is coming in flaming fire to judge those who do not know God (2 Thessalonians 1:3-10; John 5:21-23; Revelation 20:11-15), but praise be to God that He will save all that will come and put their trust in Him (John 3:16)!

This is the suffering encounter that all belivers will pass through in their daily Christian walk as they lived a Godly life of Christ that will establish them in continual victory and prepare them for the glory to come. The Christian life is not a bed of roses. Not a GOODY GOODY life but it is a victorious life. As we know that it is not possible to appear victorious without fighting a battle. There are encounters of life to pass through that will eventually proclaim our victory. Scriptures does not leave us in any doubt of this and Jesus emphatically taught this much but the last days deceivers have taken attention of people to this reality and sweet tongue them that there is no cause to face those unavoidable challenges. 2 Timothy 3:12 "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution".
Lets consider more undiluted scriptures that focused our attention on this challenge. :-
Rom 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
2 Cor 1:5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
2 Cor 1:6-7 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Colosians 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:
Hebrews 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
1 Peter 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
1 Peter 4:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
1 Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
All the above scriptures have not left us in any doubt and neither do they need any private interpretation for easy understanding.A thorough study of them made us realise that those before us partook of this sufferings and it is therefore a must for us too. However this is not a suffering that we purposely inflict upon ourselves but such as we encounter as we navigate the storms of this life. John 17:14 "I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth".
Jesus gave his personal experience."I have a baptism to be baptized with: and how am I straitened till it be accomplished". (Luke 12:50)
Isaiah 26:17 β€œWhen a woman is about to give birth, she is sad because her hour of suffering has come; but when the baby is born, she forgets her suffering, because she is happy that a baby has been born into the world.” I have a baptism [of great suffering] with which to be baptized, and how greatly I am distressed until it is accomplished!
