Finally found the culprit and solution Emperoh: Emperoh:Had a learning experience i do like to share here. . . . . . Car: Lexus ES330 Year: 2005 So over a period of time, i just notice some sort of vibration on my car starting at 60km/hr. Was quite disturbing since no amount of wheel balancing and alignment solved my problem. I think i even reported the case here. Went to my mechanic and did a test drive with him. Closer observation showed weak front Stabiliser linkages and suspension bushings. He suggested they could be the cause. I had both parts changed and then a test drive. This somewhat reduced the vibration but did not solve the problem well enough. Still felt tingles at 70 and increased vibration at 80km upwards. We fixed to meet following day for closer examination. We discovered a binding brake on left front wheel. One of the Caliper pistons was stuck out and the rubber linings also worn, causing a sort of hydraulic leakage. Mind you, there wasn't any hydraulic shortage too. Mechanic also attributed a type of gripping sound i heard on acceleration from a static position to the binding brake, but didn't specifically say it caused the vibration. We looked for the rubber linings but couldn't find any to re-kit the caliper. I also noticed that the brake discs i bought and changed last December were already warped I asked them to couple the legs and let me have my car since they couldn't get the re-kit materials for the caliper. I was already making arrangements to order the part from Lagos when i decided to try out Apo mechanic village (my first time going there since i moved to Abuja). I also gave them all through Thursday to see if they can find a replacement caliper for the car or the rubber kit. By Friday, with no response from the mechanic guys, i headed to Apo. Got there and took out the offending caliper. No matching part was found, as the most common for the 2005 Camry was single piston caliper, while mine was double piston. I insisted on what i needed. Eventually, some dude came and took the old one and left. Came back 30 minutes later, with my caliper rekitted . I got a new pair of brake pads and reinstalled on the car.Meanwhile, i went for another round of wheel balancing before the caliper fix. So i kinda noticed an improved driving with no much vibrations. In fact i drove to the airport and back with no issues the saturday after the Friday i did an alignment. So it was hard for me to pick out that the vibrations were completely gone after the caliper service. Fast forward 3 weeks later, and a trip to Kaduna inbetween, the vibrations paid me another visit ![]() Just returned from an official trip and my car parked for 3 days. I made to move it out for work the next day and i heard this sound like something being let of a strong grip. I paid not much attention to it. Car drove smoothly to work on Thursday. But on Friday, omo, the vibrations came back. I couldn't do much as i left town the following day and returned on Monday morning. Moved the car out a parked position and heard the same gripping sound again. I decided to pay less attention to it until wknd, and with the benefit of holidays, i would have time for it and to get to the bottom of this nonsense ![]() But on Tuesday, after several rounds and all runs, the car became practically undriveable at any speed beyond 50km/hr. Could see the passenger front seats shaking. None of my two trust mechanics were available. One eventually asked me to return at 2pm since he was engaged. Well, i went to some third guy who works on a number of my colleagues car, who asked to go do an alignment. My insistence it was not an alignment issue was rebuffed. I asked him to refer me to someone and he did. I struck a deal with the alignment guy, if alignment didn't solve the wahala, I won't pay! And he set to work. When he finished, a test drive showed no difference. I also noticed that at initial start up, when the wheel is relatively cold, the vibration goes away and return with intensity when hot. Well, i managed the car to my mechanic's workshop and somehow, met him. We fixed an appointment for this morning. He couldn't work on it yesterday as he was busy. I just queued and got fuel, sorted a number internet issues I had, used an ATM and was driving home when i just thought of ringing the second mechanic. Lo, he was back and asked me to come. I bought banana and drove to his shop, i anticipation of a long diagnosis and repair and maybe a sleep over (my car) at his workshop. He test drove the car and was telling me about considering changing my tires but somehow, noticed that my brakes were binding. We could even perceive some brake odour at shot stops. Lo, the right front wheel was binding. When in drive, the car won't even lunge forward. On neutral on a slope, the car is static. The slight gripping sound on braking also noticed. While i noticed these sounds, it never occurred to me they were the cause of the vibrations. We dismantled the caliper and discovered one of the pistons were stuck out. Took the caliper to Apo and serviced the caliper and reinstalled. Did a test drive and my car was sailing smoothly at 140km/hr. I will have another set of balancing and alignment later today to solve a slight tingle at 120km. Also planning on changing my rotors once more.So ends my long story ![]() |

When will Abuja be blessed with your type? I come here everyday to learn...... Keep it up biko. |
Anyone installed spacers in Abuja before? |
GAZZUZZ:You might want to elaborate more on the work on this Acura. I need to learn more about their TCM and ECUs. What the problem was and how you pinpointed it. I know it will take time, But you could do this over the wknd |
lomomike:I was in Akwa Ibom in February. . . . the flexing na die!! Natural and Human Resources yakpaa! Add to staying in Ibom Golf and u get the jive! Bros, are you intact? |
Silently observing. . . . . .thinking of coming to Lagos to kidnap Gazzuz. ![]() I know i will have an accomplice in Lomomike ![]() |
Am4obama:P0430 P0320 means your catalytic converters are beyond acceptable threshold. Kindly research more on this topic before agreeing to a fix. Kindly go and remove those mesh before it start suffocating your engine and u will have bigger issues on your hands. Find out what is causing it? If you are in Lagos, meet Gazzuz so he can install spacers on the sensors on each bank of those catalysts and see if it solves the problem. Please |
ExpressBooking:Ladipo. . .. budget like N25k for each |
sharpsharp:I did this with my A/F sensor. Basically lead poisoning on the sensor. Cleaned the sensor and refitted it back. The codes came back but that's after driving for like 100 miles. Since then, the check will go off on its own and come back on after say 40 or 50 miles. I cleared the codes again on Thursday, went to Kaduna yesterday and came back. Codes came back again this morning. So a longer term fix will be to change the sensor. But the culprit is our fuel. The lead content in our fuel is poisoning the O2 and A/F sensors. Until we start using unleaded fuel in Nigeria, we pretty much have to keep P2241, P0430 and P0230 and related faults company. |
lomomike:My car doesn't come with the AFS switch. I think the guy tampered with the sensor adjustment at the right rear. Cos i was hearing some noise whenever i go over a bump the Wednesday evening i took the car from them. But on driving out Thursday morning, the noise were gone |
lomomike:Partly. Had to service the left front Caliper. I discovered the break pistons were not retracting and the rubber bushings were worn, thereby leaking oil. The brake pad on that side is worn, basically explaining why the discs got warped. My problem now is that my AFS indicator is illuminate. I rang you two numbers last thursday and they were both switched off for long periods. |
ChimaAdeoye:You guys ain't totally wrong mehn! I left Enugu in 2006. . . .i still visit almost every other month to see my parents. The last rent we paid in Achara Layout in 2010 was N240k for a 3 bedroom flat. I knew New Heaven was going for around N260k - N280k around then. Independence Layout, were my uncle lived in a stand alone compound (bungalow) was N400k. But men, N1m in a space of 5 years ?Massive mehn!!! |
spyder880:Jisos!!! Na so rent don reach for Enugu? |
Experience4u:See his signature |
Bros, quick one, What is the 'inner cup' (on a front wheel shaft) called? Is that the CV joint? |
lomomike:Guy how far? Anywhere we can do this brake rotor resurfacing? |
GAZZUZZ:Ahhh, abeg if u sabi anyone doing it in Abuja, biko send contact. If not, i go comot am, send am to you in Lagos |
GAZZUZZ:Unclee. . . . . . .wee you aso come to Abujha? ![]() My L is hafing hissues!! ![]() |
GAZZUZZ:I saw this last night and was really thankful. Cos i was thinking of how to shell out another N75k for a pair of front brake discs. Do you know anyone who does it in Abuja? Do you achieve a very smooth surface afterwards such that the vibrations are never felt? Pardon my curiosity. ![]() |
lomomike: Bros u need to meet this guy. . . . . .maybe one of these days, anytime you are in Town. Vibrations haven't totally gone, but i will do a wheel balancing and alignment and see what's up. Then plan to change the disc and brakes again. I wish Gazzuz will give me the price for a good one. |
So here's what went down; Was having this uncomfortable pulsation when driving my sleek L ![]() Series of wheel balancing did not solve this issue. Lots of permutations from uneven tire wear to a faulty wheel hub were thrown in. All these with the recurrent/steady P2241, that graduates to P0430. . . . . . .So i went to some dude whom a colleague introduced me to. He runs AutoGenesis Centre. Just on the same premises you have Ascon filling station in Wuse II. . . . Adetokunbo Ademola (at the corner piece if you are driving from Amigos super market). Bayo is one heck of an auto encyclopaedia. So after a test drive, he examined the tires and everything seem even. Removed the two front tires and realised that the Stabiliser linkages were weak: 2 front. Also saw that the Suspension bushings were also weak too. That could give an idea for the vibration. But i also noticed that the Brake discs and pads i changed in December was also 'burnt' (whatever that meant) and the pads chopped too. The burnt discs meant they have become warped too. ![]() While we were on it, we started our usual discussion around the P0430 and P2241. And Bayo said he's figures something ideas at solving the issue. One thing about this dude is the way researches and reads issues. I doff my heart. So, he asks his boys to extract the malfunctioning sensor. and Lo. . . . . 'lead poisoning'. That's a Denso terminology to describe a sensor 'killed' by so much lead in the fuel or the fuel additives. There was a Denso sensor catalogue which further describes this issue. There's also Silicon poisoning and another one too (can't remember now). So we clean up the sensor real good and reinstall it. Cleared the codes and observing it. About 30km later, still no 'Christmas light'. I will report back here if anything changes and i hope it doesn't. It is instructive to note that, this lead issue goes on to affect the catalytic converters. With the leaded fuel on sale in Nigeria, the P2241 and P0420 and P0430 will remain a recurrence for most auto users. I have introduced Bayo to this thread. he has visited and i hope he starts posting soon enough. |
lomomike:Wuse II. . . . . Dude is supee sound. U need to meet him. |
Lexusgs430: bros e never reach like that ni o |
lomomike:The pulsation. . . . . i left it at Auto Genesis this morning. My front Stab linkages and suspension bushings are bad. So I am changing those and then observe again. Dude is also suggesting my brake disc is 'burnt'. I am not sure how possible that could be. and if the linkage and bushing could be the fault. Will do wheel balancing afterwards. |
P2241. . . . . .P0430, likely alternative solution coming. . . . . i am attempting something. If it works, i will share |
GAZZUZZ:Export your services to Abuja. . . . . . my L needs attention. Mike, stuff worsened this morning! |
spyder880:And i wonder why he keeps getting back? |
So somehow, we schemed back into the leadership of the 8th assembly, with the election of Ikeoha this morning, as the Deputy Senate President. What do you guys think? |
ExpressBooking:N2m to N2.2m depending on condition and mileage. If you wish to pre-order, hit me up. |
GAZZUZZ: Spacer on B2 S1? |
nissparts:My scanner does that......please see this link: https://www.nairaland.com/2082280/what-cheapest-way-deal-p0420/1#29826577 |
but somehow, noticed that my brakes were binding.
