What is Tasawwuf ?

Good character and awareness of God. That's all Tasawwuf is. And nothing more.

What is Tasawwuf ? Love and affection. It is the cure for hatred and vengeance. And nothing more.

What is Tasawwuf ? The heart attaining tranquility - which is the root of religion. And nothing more.

What is Tasawwuf ? Concentrating your mind, which is the religion of Ahmad (peace be upon him). And nothing more.

What is Tasawwuf ? Contemplation that travels to the Divine throne. It is a far-seeing gaze. And nothing more.

Tasawwuf is keeping one's distance from imagination and supposition. Tasawwuf is found in certainty. And nothing more. Surrendering one's soul to the care of the inviolability of religion; this is Tasawwuf. And nothing more.

Tasawwuf is the path of faith and affirmation of unity; this is the incorruptible religion. And nothing more.

Tasawwuf is the smooth and illuminated path. It is the way to the most exalted paradise. And nothing more.

I have heard that the ecstasy of the wearers of wool comes from finding the taste of religion. And nothing more.

Tasawwuf is nothing but Shari'at. It is just this clear road. And nothing more.

Islam › Re: Punishment For Adultery In Islam Is Not Stoning To Death by Empiree:
AlBaqir:
Is stoning to death for adulterers really part of Islamic code of punishment?

@Em.piree I have been keeping myself real busy searching for views on the subject above. Contrary to my initial submissions, I review certain arguments and continue my search rather than concluding as before.
humm, you working hard dear brother. This is scholarship. This is how folks become scholars. Keep it up.

1. The two sects (both Sunni and Shii) have "Sahih" ahadith which stressed that "ayat rajm" existed in the Qur'an. Whichever way the ahadith reported it, the bottom line is there is nothing like that ayah any longer in the Quran.
Mashallah, @underlined really relegates Quran, Islam and the prophet a lot. It's very ridiculous!. It contradicts our very claim that "Quran is complete".

2. Sunni claimed the ayah was erased (abrogated) but the punishment is still intact. This argument as said initially is weak because whenever a verse is erased or caused to be forgotten, a better or equivalent ayah is revealed to replace it and the new hukm is implemented {Q.2:106}. Sunni failed woefully to point out the replacement of "ayat rajm" if at all it was once part of the Quran but erased.
That's it. The Ayat abrogated were replaced with something similar or better. Quranic Laws are revealed to alleviate man from previous tough Laws. It's very simple and straight forward. We dont need ghost ayat to derive punishment from. At underlined, it is no longer Sunni issue alone. Both Sunni and Shia are equally guilty because they both believe in "Rajam" as punishment for adultery.

3. What about countless Sahih ahadith which showed stoning was practised? Here I agreed with Sheik Imran Hussein that those events probably occurred before Surah Nur: 2 was revealed. Meaning whatever the punishment was for adultery before, this new revelation abrogated it and established a new law in flogging for whoever commit ZINA.
فترة

4. Quran emphatically used the word ZINA which includes both fornication and adultery.
فترة

5. Here comes the problem which Sheik Imran failed to tackle (in the video above): Should we believe that the events of stoning in those ahadith occurred before revelation of surah nur:2, what about several athar (saying and practices post prophet) on stoning attributed to the so-called "Khulafau rashidun (rightly guided caliphs)? Were they deviant of Allah's legislation?
Actually he addressed it. He said it was fabricated. He said that someone put those words in his (Umar ibn Khatab - RTA) mouth. He said if there was a verse missing from the Quran, the only person who had the right to tell us such a thing was Muhammad (SAW) but prophet(SAW) never uttered such a thing. Here is extract from the video (7 minutes).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGuGskA8G9o
Or you can simply listen to the 47 minutes video again. He said someone must have put the 'hadith' in the mouth of Umar(RTA).

For now I need answers and views. I have sent series of mails to several scholars home and abroad, both Sunni and Shia, on this subject. When I watched a true life story film {the stoning of Suraya}, I get a gist of practicality of "stoning to death". Very horrible and terrifying. And I ask myself, what is the philosophy of this punishment?
Terrible in deed. Islam frowns at mutilation of human body even that of animal. How then fornicators or adulterers should have to be stoned to death.

Here is my personal view on application of 'Rajam'. Since missionaries and many christians love making fun of islam, my take is rajam should only apply on Jews and Christians living in Muslim counties since it is still exist in their Book.

This strategy is a form of dawah on its own. First, non-Muslims (nominal or not) easily commit zina and other crimes. Therefore, if a non-Muslims is caught, taken to court, evidence reviewed, conviction upholds, judge should ask for his/her religion. Once he/she say they are Christians (or Jew), then judge should open their Holy Book and READ IT LOUD to them - the punishment according to their Book, like a judge read it out loud to Umar Muktar(RTA) to be hanged. I swear, many Jews and Christian in Muslim world would change their religion sharp sharp shocked grin grin grin grin shocked . This is hikmah that Muslim world should apply.

They (Jews and Christians) do not have the right to mock Islam if a muslim nation upholds rajam

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN4V6Ht7ZM4

In their presence, a Muslim is also convicted of zina and he's flogged, they would realize that Islam is indeed mercy to the whole world. No one wants to die. I am pretty sure of that.

Walaikum Salaam

AlBaqir:
@Empir.ee, seems our little discussion on your thread has given me series of antispam bot ban some days now while my comments repeatedly deleted.
I sensed that. I was like what the heck you did to sissie's robot.

Anyway, the popular, the most publicized hadith of "I have left for you the book of Allah and my sunnah" is not only a single reported hadith but a fabrication per excellence.
@underlined, I guess sunni played games with that because anytime hadith is singly reported, possibility of being categorized weak or fabricated exist. But "sunnah" in itself is not far fetch from what is being practiced today

While it is obligatory for all muslim to follow and adhere to the Sunnah of the prophet, where we derive the Sunnah in order not to be led astray is the most important. While Sunni follow the Sunnah through the report of every tom, dick and harry companions be it a mu'min or munafiq or apostate, the Shia follow the Sunnah through the prophet appointed Ahl al-bayt;
That's it. That's fundamental difference. However, i insist that this difference arent far fetch from each other. No doubt every tom dick and harry wrote and reported bunch of nonsense as pointed out by sheik imran hussein and sheik hamza yusuf.

Lastly on wudhu, Imagine that brother! I haven't even explore the Quran verses on wudhu, now we don't even seem to agree on the definition of "wipe (المسحة) and wash (الغسل)"!
If you submit that "wash = wipe", then can you wipe your face and hands in wudhu as Quran command "wash your faces and your hands"?
Wash involves " to move by the force of water in motion" while wipe simply involve passing or robbing wet hands over.
Again, the difference is not big deal at all even in practical sense. The real difference is in definition of the words. That's why i said earlier that sunni and shia are playing dump with religion. It's hatred that made them go against one another. Differences occur because of "interest". Interest that is not fisabilillah. That's what it is. Why would "wash and wipe" cause major hullabaloo among Muslims is beyond me.

AlBaqir:
I subscribe firmly to the opinion which says Allah is everywhere with everything and in everything. His existence is not of a physical or spiritual being we can ever comprehend. He is not confined to a particular place where He moves from one place to the other with time. "Glory be to Him far from what they ascribe to Him.
MashaAllah!. there isn't much difference. Words are only worded differently. That's all. Salafi critics need to shut up honestly. @Fundamentalist, do you have problem with albaqir's creed here?. As Sheik Imran rightly said, that muslims do not defer upon Quran. Holding on to Quran first as the only guarantee kitab without any blemish is paramount. You dont turn to hadith first to derive meaning. But salafi a k a Alhu Hadith cling on to Hadith first which can be very misleading. Their argument is Quran can not be understood alone. That's false for many obvious reasons. One of the reasons is when non-muslims show interest or convinced that islam is the truth, the first thing you hear them say is they read Quran. They dont say they read hadith. This does not mean hadith doesnt exist.

To put this straight, Maula Ameerul mu'mineen, Ali ibn Abi talib (as) says:

He is not alike any form and neither is He perceived by the senses. Nor can He be compared to anything. In spite of being far, He is near and despite being near, He is far. He is above everything and nothing is above of Him. He is ahead of everything and nothing is ahead of Him. He is inside the things through His power, but He is not like something, which is inside something. He is outside the things but He is not like something, which comes out of something. Purified is one Who is such and other than Him is not like this and He is the beginning of everything. {Usul al-Kafi, vol. 1, pg. 86}.
Nothing further from the truth.

Islam › Re: Shaykh Adam Abdullah Al-ilory by Empiree(op):

And that shows how confused he is, while you're no different. Shi'ism gave birth to Sufism. Let me educate you a little. Aqeedah of Shi'ism and Sufism believe Allah is not above His throne, rather, they say He is everywhere, where was Allah before creating the heavens and earth

Also the so called batiniya knowledge, claiming there is hidden knowledge only your shuyuks and imams can know? That's absurd, knowledge in Islam is very open nothing is hidden

I ONLY COMMENT WHEN NECCESSARY, UNLIKE THE TWO CONFUSIONISTS ABOVE ME
Ogbeni, kindly sit down for side. I am not confused about anything. Any muslim can maintain Sunni standards without calling himself or herself Sunni. Get that fact right. The reason for that is very simple. There is nothing in the Quran or Hadith where it's authentically stated this one is Sunni or Shia. Now dont give me silly terminolgy like they do "salafi".

Prior to year 2000, largely all nigerian muslims and even many parts of the world do not know any differece btw sunni and shia nor did they call themselves by that until recent yrs. Many did not even heard of these names. The whole name calling thing emerged from middle east and Arab countries. Even Tbaba1234, despite his apparent sunni practices never called himself sunni. The whole idea behind that is to simply stay out of sectarian rubbish. So stop this nonsense of yours.

On aqeeda you keep talking about, that's another rubbish you spewing. Allah is above His Throne. This is creed of ALL Musims. Everyone is taught this simply tawheed growing up. It's in recent yrs some idiots causing trouble over aqeeda. And by saying Allah is 'everywhere' does not mean in person.. The mosques I frequent are alhusunnahwajamah and salafi. And everyone prays there including sufis. I remember imam, who is also salafi said during khutba that Allah is everywhere by His Knowledge. So is he shia or sufi for saying that?. Again, this is another simple aqeeda we were taught growing up. It's not about sects. It's aqeeda of every muslim. Allah is indeed everywhere by His Knowledge NOT by His Ownself. That's it.

But bcus you have this crazy sectarian blood in you, it's driving you crazy and affecting your sense of reasoning. I have told you and your boys before that you guys dont know how to listen to others.

On ilm batin, whether you like it or not, it exists. What you dont know you dont know. Quran and hadith make it clear we human and Jinn only know little bit. Quran even hints us in Sura Imran (i believe) that there are learned scholars who know beyond average muslims. If you dont know something, simply humble yourself and learn from people rather than creating nuisance on net. I swear by Allah there exist ilm beyond text. Problem however is it's not guarded. Therefore this creates every Tom, Dick and Harry to say whatever they want.

The way old Ulama used to do it was great compare to now. And just because some mureed do or say silly things does not make ilm batin false. So who schools who now?

Ogbeni, you have a lot to learn. Nothing wrong interacting with them. As a matter of fact they may initiate talks with human as well. They are around you 24/7. What may be problematic is to deliberately interfare with them for no reason or to want to take control of them. They live in their world and should be left alone.

And ofcourse prophet muhammad SAW was sent to them as well. He delivered message of Islam to the Jinns. Therefore, nabi Muhammad SAW was prophet of humanity. (Sura Anbiyaa 107)

Islam › Re: Islam For Muslims: Side Talk Station by Empiree:
JazakaAllah khayran. I thought of dark ways too but I just don't want to put much emphasis on that and I didn't suggest that to him either.

What most of the children are doing now is keep their things away from him. But he's always curious to know what they are up to. Once he knows he passes info to his young wives and 'outsiders '. This is very problematic. Alaroka are very dangerous.

The reason my friend revealed the whole thing to me recently was bcus of leaked info by his brother and sister and his mom. My friend lives the State over 10 yrs now and has not visit nija since. Not bcus he has no kpali. No. He's citizen. Some yrs back his mom and dad adviced him to start building a small house to fall back on. He honestly did not have anything to do with his dad in that respect cus I think the man has natural bad behavior only known to the children. They knew that from day 1.

Anyways he listened to them and started the project. It was supposed to be modem bungalow but when the house got to lintel level, his dad advised him to raise it upstairs since he's still working. And that the house will always be there and more space, 2 in 1 house bla bla bla.

My friends sensed this is a good advise. But he's always skeptical though. So when the house got to lintel, he paid for decking since May 2014. Besides, he already spent close to 5m just to lintel level. But he didn't care. He just wanted the house complete. During those times, his sister notice the way papa spends money. Papa has gf besides the last 2 wives. He got gf after he equipped money from his son.

My friends said he brushed aside criticism of his dad. That he can't act on unsubstantiated information. Decking cost 1.4m which he paid for since last yr and he expected it done after Ramadan break. But no no no. Instead his dad asked for 3m for this and that on his house. ...like govt wants him to pay this and that nonsense. He believed him and sent 3m. Decking was finally done a month ago. That's a year after he paid for it. According to his dad, decking could not be done until 3m was paid. His sister warned him about dad spending on a lady and some guys who introduced "biz" to him. The guys are scammers but he didn't know.

Then his younger brother who rarely talked to him realized it's time to talk. He called his brother in the states and informed him of everything. It was then my friend believes what his sister and mom have been saying. He said 3 people can not be lying over same thing. He asked his dad to take pix of the house and send them to him but he never did.

His brother went to the site it was decking level and all that but consider the amount be already spent and that could have completed decking, roofing, fence and even plaster at least. That 3m was spent for fun. It's gone down the drain.

Still my friend tried to man up. He quickly paid half of blocks etc including labor needed for 2nd floor. His dad said it would finish in 3 days. That was a week before Ramadan (2015) was over. 2 weeks later he called his dad to confirm if block work was done? . His dad said of course. My friend summoned his brother to go to his site to confirm. His brother returned with pix of just decking. No block work on decking. That's when he was pissed off and cutoff communication with his dad. He then came to me for advise. He's really running mad crazy now.

Now he wanted to go home unnoticed and do something crazy. I told him to calm down. I sought advice from "properties section". And in fact the brothers there are familiar with such situation. They said he needs to calm down first. And be assured he can't get his money back. And he should not sue his dad or fight him. Just go home and collect your property related documents and fire him forever.

When I told my friend he said "I know people are going to tell me to calm down. I don't want to calm down. I want to teach him a lesson. Does he think I'm here joking in the street of NY?". I said calm down my friend. U going to start smoking and drinking if u continue like this. Few days later he sent me attached pic.

I screamed at him. ...pls don't do anything funny. I want him calm down a lot before he travels. He's calm quiet bit. Indeed this is worth forgetting a father. Very evil and silly

^Wudu part got me rolling my eyes.

Sunni wash feet

Shia wipe feet

Is there any fundamental distinction at all or we are just playing linguistic games here?. Sunni do not 'wash' feet with sponge and soap. To me there is no difference between WASH & WIPE in this context. Both use water only. I am sure there are Sunni who simply wipe their feet as well. So this is no issue at all.

Yes, it's true and easy to say one doesn't belong to any faction but in practical sense it's. The reason for saying I don't belong to one is simply for the sake of staying out of sectarianism or sectarian conflicts.

As for two things left behind by the Prophet(SAW), that's just not issue for me either. As far as I'm concern both are same thing. Sunni have their version which says QURAN & SUNNAH. Shia say QURAN & AHL-AL BAYT.

Well, al-BAYT are people of Quran and sunnah as well, isn't? . I'm just trying to spot the real difference be the two. Sometimes, both Sunni and Shia are simply playing duff with religion.
