✝️📗DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL Date: 2024-JANUARY -02 🎯TOPIC: RECOUNT HIS DEEDS ✝️TEXT: PSALM 9: 1-20(NKJV) 1)I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. 2 )I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High. 3 )When my enemies turn back, They shall fall and perish at Your presence. 4 )For You have maintained my right and my cause; You sat on the throne judging in righteousness. 5 )You have rebuked the nations, You have destroyed the wicked; You have blotted out their name forever and ever. 6) O enemy, destructions are finished forever! And you have destroyed cities; Even their memory has perished. 7 )But the Lord shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment. 8 )He shall judge the world in righteousness, And He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness. 9 )The Lord also will be a refuge[c] for the oppressed, A refuge in times of trouble. 10 )And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. 11) Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion! Declare His deeds among the people. 12) When He avenges blood, He remembers them; He does not forget the cry of the humble. 13)Have mercy on me, O Lord! Consider my trouble from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death, 14)That I may tell of all Your praise In the gates of the daughter of Zion. I will rejoice in Your salvation. 15)The nations have sunk down in the pit which they made; In the net which they hid, their own foot is caught. 16)The Lord is known by the judgment He executes; The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Meditation. 17)The wicked shall be turned into hell, And all the [h]nations that forget God. 18) For the needy shall not always be forgotten; The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever. 19) Arise, O Lord, Do not let man prevail; Let the nations be judged in Your sight. 20) Put them in fear, O Lord, That the nations may know themselves to be but men. ✝️🗒️ STUDY: David understood the importance and power of giving thanks to God,if you're like me,it is far easier to ask God for the things I need than to stop And praise him.for example,I find that my words are much more when I am "asking' than when I am 'thanking';I notice that when I am making request my words are usually more;the words just keep flowing as I pour my heart to God.But when it's time to give thanks, few words, and I would seem lost on what next to say. in today's passage we see clearly that David was a man who over came the above challenge during he's surjourn here on earth, he boldly and resolutely declared:"I will give thanks to the lord"(v.1;ESV).This should be one of our firm resolves this year.like David, insist on giving thanks,no matter what the situation would seem to present, until you make your mind and insist on giving thanks,Satan will always show you reason's why you cannot give thanks. second,it should be"with my whole heart"(v.1;ESV).insist on giving thanks with all your heart.Be sincere;be focused;be deliberate.third,do it by recounting all his deeds(v.1,ESV)you will be amazed at how much you will have to sincerely say to God in genuine worship, when you take time to recount his deeds. ✝️🙏 ACTION:Today," Tell among the people his deeds"(v.11). |
*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_ *DATE:* MONDAY 1ST JANUARY, 2024 _*(New Year Day)* *(Circumcision of Christ)* *THEME:* THE REAL MAJESTY *TEXT:* PSALM 8: 1-9 *BIBLE READING* (NKJV) 1. O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! 2. Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. 3. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, 4. What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? 5. For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. 6. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, 7. All sheep and oxen— Even the beasts of the field, 8. The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas. 9. O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth! *MESSAGE:* 2022 passed as one of the very significant years of our generation. One of the events that marked the year was the passing of Queen Elizabeth II the longest reigning monarch in British history. Her funeral service, watched by billions of people on earth, was one of the final parts of the public ceremony of her burial. However, one thing that stood out throughout the whole event was the majestic ways that Her Majesty' was mourned and buried. Watching aspects of this, I couldn't help but think of the real majesty' - the Lord Himself! When you think of the word 'majestic', you will have such image words like imposing, grandiose, magnifcent, splendid, resplendent, superb, and impressive in your mind, and this wil give you an idea of what God's name implies. God's name cannot be separated from who He is and what He does. A person's name carries his authority, personality, character and nature. This should help us in appreciative worship. Heaven's intention is that all over the earth, God's name should cause such reaction of godly reverent awe! What is more?! His glory, splendour and beauty, are above the heavens! In other words, nothing on earth is sufficient to describe the wonder and magnificence of God. Next time you take time to worship, just remember that He is basically above whatever you can say or imagine. This should make us fall before this awesome God who is the real Majesty!' *PRAYER:* Indeed, Lord, Your name is truly Majestic in all the earth! _*Amen*_ *QUOTE OF THE DAY:* God says _"But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;."_ *Psalm 103: 17* *WELCOME TO THE MONTH OF JANUARY 2024* As you journey with the Lord in this New year 2024, His Mighty Right Hand will cover and heal all your past pains. He will replace sorrow with laughter, wailing with joy, disappointment with approval. God will turn around your afflictions and you shall enjoy peace within and without in Jesus name. Amen. *HAPPY NEW MONTH & NEW YEAR* |
I welcome Everyone to this New thread of our Journey into the Daily Fountain Devotional Guide 2024. May the Good LORD continue to answer our prayers and bring to fulfilments all of our good heart desires in the New Year in Jesus Mighty name Amen. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU |
✝️📗DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL Date: 2023-Dec-31 (First Sunday after Christmas) 🎯TOPIC: COSTLY ASSUMPTIONS ✝️TEXT: Luke 2:41-52(NKJV) 2:41. His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 2:42. And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. 2:43. When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know [it;] 2:44. but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day's journey, and sought Him among [their] relatives and acquaintances. 2:45. So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. 2:46. Now so it was [that] after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 2:47. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. 2:48. So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, "Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously." 2:49. And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?" 2:50. But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them. 2:51. Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. 2:52. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. ✝️🗒️ STUDY: It is always better to be sure than to assume! We can learn a lot of lessons from Mary and Joseph in today's passage. After the festival, they set out on the long journey back home without so much as making sure that Jesus was indeed with them in the journey. They only found out much later, after three whole days, that Jesus was missing from their lives. Their assumption cost them many days of delay, energy and resources as they went back looking for Jesus. Many in the Church today are in the same way living on assumptions. Many of us assume that because we are gifted and talented, we have Jesus. Are you making such assumption because you can pray in tongues, or because you were born and raised as a Christian, or because you have been serving in Church leadership for many years? Assuming that you have Jesus in your life and vocation based only on any of these credentials, is indeed a costly assumption. Not all who profess the name of Jesus will enter the Kingdom of God, but only those who believe and trust in Jesus Christ and also spend their lives doing His will (see Matthew 7:21-23). As we enter the New Year tomorrow, do not just assume that you have Jesus. Make sure His presence is with you! ✝️🙏 PRAYER: Lord, please enable me to know Your will and to do it always. |
*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_ *DATE:* SATURDAY 30TH DECEMBER, 2023 *THEME:* WHOEVER HAS THE SON *TEXT:* JOHN 3: 31-36 *BIBLE READING* (NKJV) 3:31. "He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. 3:32. "And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. 3:33. "He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true. 3:34. "For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. 3:35. "The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. 3:36. "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." *MESSAGE:* Many have said that the two most important questions God will ask each person on the Judgment Day are: (1) What did you do with my Son, Jesus Christ? (2) What did you do with the life I gave you to live on earth? Whether or not God will eventually put His questions this way, we cannot know for sure until we finally stand before Him. What is absolutely clear from our reading today, however, is that there is an absolute connection between faith and belief in Jesus Christ and the issue of eternal life. John clearly says “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life...” (v.36). If you are not saved, then you must put your faith in Jesus Christ today, because He is the only Way to life (Acts 4:12; John 14:6). The second issue to be settled is what you do with your life here on earth. When you have Christ in your life, you have life in abundance (John 10:10). This abundant life, is for you to enjoy right from now, because of God's grace. But it is also a life to extend to others around you. Permit people around you to come drink from the fountain of life that flows from you. Jesus paid the price to give you that life. You also must joyfully and willingly extend that life to others. *PRAYER:* Lord, may Your abundant life flow through me to others. _*Amen.*_ *QUOTE OF THE DAY:* God says _"I will guide you to the very end, for I will be your God forever."___ *Psalm 48:14* |
*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_ *DATE:* THURSDAY 28TH DECEMBER, 2023 *THEME:* FOCUSSED AND PURPOSEFUL *TEXT:* JOHN 12: 20-33 *BIBLE READING* (NKJV) 12:20. Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast. 12:21. Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus." 12:22. Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus. 12:23. But Jesus answered them, saying, "The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. 12:24. "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. 12:25. "He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 12:26. "If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him [My] Father will honor. 12:27. " Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 12:28. "Father, glorify Your name." Then a voice came from heaven, [saying,] "I have both glorified [it] and will glorify [it] again." 12:29. Therefore the people who stood by and heard [it] said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to Him." 12:30. Jesus answered and said, "This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake. 12:31. "Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. 12:32. "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all [peoples] to Myself." 12:33. This He said, signifying by what death He would die. *MESSAGE:* Today, Christianity comprises of almost two billion people in the world and this is only possible as a result of Jesus' life and ministry amongst men. If Jesus had failed in His ministry, Christianity would have been dead. The secret of Jesus' success was His sense of focus and purpose. First, Jesus knew exactly what He was on earth for: To obtain salvation for man. He was not confused about the purpose for His being. If He were, He would have diverted His attention to the pursuit of other things, such as fame, glory and wealth. However, many Christians are thoroughly confused, lacking any kind of knowledge of who they are and why they are here. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...” (Hosea 4:6). Knowledge is power! Moreover, Jesus was focused on pursuing what He knew He was here for. It was not easy but He did not allow the pain and the shame to deter Him. No wonder He became prosperous and highly rewarded (Phil. 2:9-11). His soul was troubled (v.27), yet He remained focused on doing the will of the Father and glorifying the Father alone. You must do whatever God entrusts to you with an utmost sense of purpose and focus. The two most needed ingredients for success in life is purpose and focus. *PRAYER:* Lord, show me Your purpose for my life and help me remain focused. _*Amen*_ *QUOTE OF THE DAY:* God says _"My Son has made you to be a kingdom of priests to be with Me forever."_ *Revelation 1:5-6* |
✝️📗DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL Date: 2023-Dec-17 (Third Sunday in Advent) 🎯TOPIC: BE THE VOICE IN THIS GENERATION ✝️TEXT:John 1:19-28(NKJV) 1:19. Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" 1:20. He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ." 1:21. And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No." 1:22. Then they said to him, "Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?" 1:23. He said: "I [am] 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the LORD," ' as the prophet Isaiah said." 1:24. Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees. 1:25. And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?" 1:26. John answered them, saying, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know. 1:27. "It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose." 1:28. These things were done in Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. ✝️🗒️ STUDY: The Jews sent priests and Levites form Jerusalem to ask John one question: 'Who are you?' Notice that they were not first and foremost interested in Jesus; they were not asking John to speak about Jesus. However, John was a voice in the wilderness, sent to proclaim the coming of the Messiah. He insists that the way of the Lord be made straight. For John, it was an opportunity to bear testimony of Christ in his own time. If you're doing spectacular things, people will ask about you. What you do and say will always lead people to want to know who you are. Sometimes, we are asked to introduce ourselves. When that happens, what do you normally say and do? Are you aware that the way God wants men to handle things have been perverted in today's world? Do you see the way marriage is being re-defined, in our generation? Do you notice that the world is already introducing confusion into gender? We now have men and women who are now transgender. We have 'cross dressers' today(men who dress like women, for example). Are you a voice for Heaven in this 'wilderness' of life? Are you silent when our Father's inheritance is being swallowed up? Are you a voice for godliness today? John was a voice in his generation; what about you?. Be a voice for the Lord, who proclaims the coming of the Lord in this generation. ✝️🙏PRAYER:Dear Lord, make me a voice in this generation that I may proclaim your salvation. |

*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_ *DATE:* SATURDAY 16TH DECEMBER, 2023 *THEME:* TAKE THE MATTER TO JESUS *TEXT:* MATTHEW 17: 14-21 *BIBLE READING* (NKJV) 17:14. And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, 17:15. "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 17:16. "So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him." 17:17. Then Jesus answered and said, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me." 17:18. And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. 17:19. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?" 17:20. So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 17:21. "However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." *MESSAGE:* Today, a mother has a son with a difficult health situation. She makes weekly trips to the Teaching Hospital for the son's medical care. She goes to great lengths to deny herself many pleasures in order to save up funds for his medical bills and to buy special foods that he needs. My conclusion is that the love of a parent for his or her child is great. They hurt when the child hurts; they cry sometimes when a child is in trouble. We can therefore understand the predicament of this father when he came to Jesus. What was the condition of the son? He was an epileptic and had suffered terribly. He often fell into the fire and water. All these would certainly put him in danger of death constantly. This was not an enviable position for a father to be. Are you a parent with a child in a rather difficult situation? Does your child or relation or friend fall often into the moral, health, financial, psychological or spiritual 'fire'? Take the situation to Jesus. Note the steps this father took. (i) He came 'kneeling.' This is a position of humility. Come to Jesus, not with a sense of arrogance; come humbly. (ii) He told Jesus all about his son. Confess the situation as it is; do not embellish it. (iii) He pleaded for mercy. Do not come with a sense of merit; ask for mercy. Jesus will answer. *PRAYER:* Lord, have mercy on me as I come unto You for divine healing! _*Amen*_ *QUOTE OF THE DAY:* God says _"I am your rock and your salvation, a fortress that cannot be shaken."_ *Psalm 62:2* |

*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_ *DATE:* FRIDAY 15TH DECEMBER, 2023 *THEME:* DIVINE APPROVAL *TEXT:* MATTHEW 17: 1-13 *BIBLE READING* (NKJV) 17:1. Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; 17:2. and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. 17:3. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 17:4. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." 17:5. While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!" 17:6. And when the disciples heard [it,] they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. 17:7. But Jesus came and touched them and said, "Arise, and do not be afraid." 17:8. When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. 17:9. Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, "Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead." 17:10. And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" 17:11. Jesus answered and said to them, "Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things. 17:12. "But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands." 17:13. Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist. *MESSAGE:* The experience of Peter, James and John with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration was very unique. For one, none of the other disciples had this opportunity. However, the words they heard God speak have set me thinking and praying about my own life. How did Jesus live that God was very bold to declare that He was well pleased with Him? I believe it was Jesus' commitment in doing the will of the Father that brought this about. After all, the Bible clearly states that He (Jesus) loved righteousness and hated wickedness. It is this reason that made God to anoint Him with the oil of gladness above His fellows. Should I not also live in such a way as to please God by my life? If He sees this in me, will He not be bold to introduce me to my generation? This becomes even more attractive as I recall that God also gave testimony about Moses. He 'boldly' declared that His servant, Moses was different; he (Moses) was faithful in God's house. Note that God could not say these exact words concerning Aaron and Miriam, who ministered alongside Moses. It means that what will mark me out among my fellows is my faithfulness to God in the way I live. Brother, sister, can God boldly introduce you to men? Sir, can Heaven recommend you as someone that others can do business with without being cheated? *PRAYER:* O Lord, give me the heart that will please You. *Amen.* *QUOTE OF THE DAY:* God says _"I will keep you safe from trouble for I am your hiding place."_ *Psalm 32:7* |
✝️📗DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL Date: 2023-Dec-14 🎯TOPIC: THE SETTING OF YOUR MIND ✝️TEXT: Matthew 16:13-28(NKJV) 16:13. When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?" 16:14. So they said, "Some [say] John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 16:15. He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16:16. Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 16:17. Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed [this] to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 16:18. "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 16:19. "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." 16:20. Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ. 16:21. From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. 16:22. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, "Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!" 16:23. But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men." 16:24. Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 16:25. "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 16:26. "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 16:27. "For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. 16:28. "Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom." ✝️🗒️ STUDY: For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man” (v.23). From Peter's human perspective, the Messiah's mission did not, and indeed should not include death. How could Jesus, the Messiah die? In Peter's human reasoning, that would be defeat; that would be failure. In this, Satan was trying to hinder the salvation of humankind. And as far as Jesus was concerned, Peter, in doing this, had become a hindrance to Jesus' mission on earth. It is interesting to me that the reason Peter was seen as hindrance to the purpose of God for Christ was that he was 'setting' his mind on the things of man. Certainly, the way God reasons is different from the way man reasons. Except we see things from Heaven's perspective, we would hinder God's purpose by our 'earthly' reasoning. How do you view life? What is your view about the challenges you are presently going through? What is your view of beauty? What is your mind about wealth? Is your mind set on the things of God or man? If your mind is on the things of man, you will be an offence to God; you will hinder His purpose. But if your mind is set on the things of God, you will achieve God's purpose. ✝️🙏PRAYER: May the mind of Christ, my Saviour rule my heart in everything. |
*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_ *DATE:* WEDNESDAY 13TH DECEMBER, 2023 *THEME:* SIGNS OF THE TIME *TEXT:* MATTHEW 16: 1-12 *BIBLE READING* (NKJV) 16:1. Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. 16:2. He answered and said to them, "When it is evening you say, '[It will be] fair weather, for the sky is red'; 16:3. "and in the morning, '[It will be] foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.' Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot [discern] the signs of the times. 16:4. "A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." And He left them and departed. 16:5. Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. 16:6. Then Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees." 16:7. And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "[It is] because we have taken no bread." 16:8. But Jesus, being aware of [it,] said to them, "O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread? 16:9. "Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up? 16:10. "Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up? 16:11. "How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? -- [but] to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees." 16:12. Then they understood that He did not tell [them] to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees. *MESSAGE:* _“Mum is sick and has been diagnosed with cancer.”_ Those words from my sister cut through to my heart. As I prayed, it dawned on me that she must be in her 'last days'; being in her eighties, I knew the end was near. My wife and I caught the next available flight to Lagos with one thing uppermost in our hearts: Go and ensure her salvation. We were able to pray with her. Thank God we did; she went home soon afterwards. The Pharisees and Sadducees knew how to interpret “the appearance of the sky”, but could not interpret the sings of the times (v.3). In a sense, Jesus was disappointed that they could not correctly interpret the Scriptures concerning Him and the time of the visitation of Israel. We are expected to be like the sons of Issachar who understood the signs of the times and knew what Israel ought to do. A proper understanding of the times we are living in should tell us that we are in the last days. This should come with a sense of responsibility in relation to the gospel. For one, there should be a higher sense of urgency in proclaiming the gospel and seeking to reach the unsaved. Second, we should be more careful with our own lives, knowing that in the last days, iniquity shall abound and the love of many shall wax cold. Are you getting cold? *PRAYER:* Lord, help me to live with the consciousness of eternity in view. _*Amen*_ *QUOTE OF THE DAY:* God says _"I have made an everlasting covenant to only do good things for you."_ *Jeremiah 32:40* |
