TOPIC: WHAT GOD HAS ORDAINED
READ: 1 KINGS 1:38-43

38 So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.
39 And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon.
40 And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.
41 And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar?
42 And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good tidings.
43 And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king.

THE MESSAGE:

Finally, Solomon was crowned king, according to the instructions of his father, David. The people rejoiced on the choice, showing acceptance. Though Solomon was younger, he was God's choice to succeed David. God's time is the best.

Solomon was the later son of Bathsheba who had an adulterous relationship with King David. God had forgiven them and decided to choose a successor from their legal marital relationship. Our God is a merciful God. He quickly forgives iniquity when we confess and repent. He said in Psalms 103:8-10 thus: "The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities." Nobody can prevent what God has ordained for us. No Adonijah can do that! Look unto God. It may delay but it will surely come.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I know that all You have ordained for me must come to pass in Jesus' Name.

31 Then Bathsheba bowed down with her face to the ground, prostrating herself before the king, and said, “May my lord King David live forever!”
32 King David said, “Call in Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.” When they came before the king,
33 he said to them: “Take your lord’s servants with you and have Solomon my son mount my own mule and take him down to Gihon.
34 There have Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him king over Israel. Blow the trumpet and shout, ‘Long live King Solomon!’
35 Then you are to go up with him, and he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.”
36 Benaiah son of Jehoiada answered the king, “Amen! May the Lord, the God of my lord the king, so declare it.
37 As the Lord was with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon to make his throne even greater than the throne of my lord King David!”

THE MESSAGE:

David immediately took action. He called all his loyal officers and directed them on what to do to make Solomon king. They were to make him ride on the King David's personal mule and to sit on his throne after coronation. This was to show that King David was in support of Solomon. They all left immediately to carry out the directive.

Many projects have been stalled because of delay in action. Many men have ended up not marrying their ordained wives because of procrastination. While they were delaying, another man stepped in and proposed to their dream woman. Many have not attained their target success for delay in taking immediate action or decision. Many treaties that could have changed the course of history were never signed because of delay. Some careers were never pursued because of delay. What is it that you have in mind to do? Why not take immediate action now and pursue it until you achieve your goal. Start now!

PRAYER: Dear Father, may I not delay again that which You have been nudging me to do. Amen.

TOPIC: RIGHTING THE WRONG
READ: 1 KINGS 1:22-30

While she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet arrived.
23 And the king was told, “Nathan the prophet is here.” So he went before the king and bowed with his face to the ground.
24 Nathan said, “Have you, my lord the king, declared that Adonijah shall be king after you, and that he will sit on your throne?
25 Today he has gone down and sacrificed great numbers of cattle, fattened calves, and sheep. He has invited all the king’s sons, the commanders of the army and Abiathar the priest. Right now they are eating and drinking with him and saying, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’
26 But me your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon he did not invite.
27 Is this something my lord the king has done without letting his servants know who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?”
28 Then King David said, “Call in Bathsheba.” So she came into the king’s presence and stood before him.
29 The king then took an oath: “As surely as the Lord lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble,
30 I will surely carry out this very day what I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel: Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.”

THE MESSAGE:

Nathan the Prophet came in later as was arranged and asked the king if he had sanctioned the ascendancy of Adonijah as next king without hinting him. The king had to invite Bathsheba and reassured her that he still stood by his promise to make Solomon the next king after him. Thank God David was still alive to correct things.

Some people take advantage of situations to achieve their selfish ambition. Adonijah may have felt that since his father was no longer active in governance, he could manipulate the system or situation and achieve his desire. However, he had not counted on the way events turned out. Imagine if David had died, his succession could have turned bloody. Many communities today are still struggling to have the next traditional ruler after the demise of the last occupant because of not following things properly. Some have been in court for years while some have resorted to elimination of perceived opponents. May we pray that God will intervene where such crisis may exist today!

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to control my ambitions and desires.

TOPIC: FOLLOWING DUE PROCESS
READ: 1 KINGS 1:11-21

11 Then Nathan asked Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, “Have you not heard that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, has become king, and our lord David knows nothing about it?
12 Now then, let me advise you how you can save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.
13 Go in to King David and say to him, ‘My lord the king, did you not swear to me your servant: “Surely Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’
14 While you are still there talking to the king, I will come in and add my word to what you have said.”
15 So Bathsheba went to see the aged king in his room, where Abishag the Shunammite was attending him.
16 Bathsheba bowed down, prostrating herself before the king.
“What is it you want?” the king asked.
17 She said to him, “My lord, you yourself swore to me your servant by the Lord your God: ‘Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne.’
18 But now Adonijah has become king, and you, my lord the king, do not know about it.
19 He has sacrificed great numbers of cattle, fattened calves, and sheep, and has invited all the king’s sons, Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander of the army, but he has not invited Solomon your servant. 20 My lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, to learn from you who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
21 Otherwise, as soon as my lord the king is laid to rest with his ancestors, I and my son Solomon will be treated as criminals.”
22 While she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet arrived.
23 And the king was told, “Nathan the prophet is here.” So he went before the king and bowed with his face to the ground.

THE MESSAGE:

As we read on Saturday, Adonijah arranged with his supporters and made himself king without the blessing of his father, David. David being old and out of circulation of state affairs, was not abreast with what was happening in his kingdom. So, Nathan the Prophet arranged with David's wife, Bathsheba, to break the news to David to do the right thing while he (Nathan) would come in later to corroborate. Bathsheba reminded the king of his promise to her that Solomon, her son, would be king after him.

As we observed earlier, though Adonijah, by position in the family, may have been the next in succession, if such was followed, he never sought for the approval of his father. In the same way, many miss their blessings and opportunities by not following due process or waiting for approval from God or the right men. Don't be in too much hurry to attain that height without first seeking God's approval or following due process. Cutting corners does not take one too far. Avoid it. Isaiah 28:16b states, “Whoever believes will not act hastily."

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be patient as I await that promotion or height. Amen.

TOPIC: PREACHING THE GOSPEL
READ: MATTHEW 10:16-22 (NKJV)

[16] “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
[17] But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues. [18] You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
[19] But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; [
20] for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
[21] “Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.
[22] And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

THE MESSAGE:

As part of Jesus' training of His disciples (the Apostles). He sent them out to go and practise preaching the Gospel. He also reminded them of the challenges they would face and asked them to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. The challenges included: Delivering them to Councils (civil leaders), flogging, death, rebellion, hatred, etc. His assurance to them was that if they endured to the end, they would be saved.

The things Jesus told His disciples that day are still the same challenges those that preach the Gospel today pass through. In many parts of the world today, Christians are being persecuted, marginalised, killed, rendered homeless, etc., just because they preach the Gospel or believe in Christ. Those in authority or government seem not to be bothered. Christians have become endangered species.
The devil is really at war against believers to stop the spread of the Gospel. It is only God that will save the remnant to continue to preach without fear.

PRAYER: Matthew 24:14: "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come." Lord. May You enlist me today

TOPIC: CHILD DISCIPLINE
READ: 1 KINGS 1:1-10

When King David was very old, he could not keep warm even when they put covers over him.
2 So his attendants said to him, “Let us look for a young virgin to serve the king and take care of him. She can lie beside him so that our lord the king may keep warm.”
3 Then they searched throughout Israel for a beautiful young woman and found Abishag, a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
4 The woman was very beautiful; she took care of the king and waited on him, but the king had no sexual relations with her.
5 Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, “I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses[a] ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.
6 (His father had never rebuked him by asking, “Why do you behave as you do?” He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom.)
7 Adonijah conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they gave him their support.
8 But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei and Rei and David’s special guard did not join Adonijah.
9 Adonijah then sacrificed sheep, cattle and fattened calves at the Stone of Zoheleth near En Rogel. He invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the royal officials of Judah,
10 but he did not invite Nathan the prophet or Benaiah or the special guard or his brother Solomon.

THE MESSAGE:

One role God expects of all parents is to enforce discipline on their children. Proverbs 29:15 states thus; "The rod and rebuke give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother." We may never know for sure why the father is not mentioned in this instruction.

We see in our text today where the above scripture played out clearly. Adonijah felt it was his turn to ascend the throne of Israel. He never allowed his father, David, who was still alive, to make the pronouncement rather he organised his coronation group and took them to where they would crown him king. He also extended his invitation to a selected few and left out others. Though he may have been the eldest after Absalom, but it was not right for him to declare himself king. The problem lies in verse 6a. "And his father had not rebuked him at any time by saying, "Why have you done so?" Though David was a very reputable King in Israel, he was very weak in enforcing discipline at the home front. This led to some of his children misbehaving. Please, keep an eye on your children so that they will not grow out of control and bring shame to the family.

PRAYER: Lord, please give me the grace to bring up my children in Your unity. Amen.

TOPIC: DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD'S WORD
READ: 2 THESSALONIANS 3:14-18

14 If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed.
15 Do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.
16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.
17 I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. This is the sign of genuineness in every letter of mine; it is the way I write.
18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

THE MESSAGE:

Paul had said a lot in this short Epistle and was emphatic on those that will not obey what God was using him to tell them through his letter. He asked the believers to note such person and not keep company with him/her. This will lead to the shame of that person. Again, such a person should not be treated as an enemy but as a brother, who will possibly retrace his step.

Christian discipline is allowed in Christianity. Though it is not too common these days for Christian leaders to stand their ground to discipline an erring brother or sister, it is wrong to tolerate everything. Some leaders are afraid that if a certain brother or sister who plays key role(s) is disciplined, the person may abandon the fold and go to another denomination or another Church and may never return. Such is possible, but rescuing that person is far more important than other considerations. May the Lord grant us wisdom to handle every case on its merit!

PRAYER: Lord, please give me the boldness to correct an erring believer and redirect him/her to You.

*TEXT:* 2 THESSALONIANS 3: 6-13 _*(NKJV)*_

6 But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us.
7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you;
8 nor did we eat anyone's bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you,
9 not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us.
10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.
11 For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies.
12 Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread.
13 But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good.

*MESSAGE:*

In our text today, Apostle Paul warns against idleness and laziness. Though the Thessalonian believers were eagerly waiting for the Second Coming of Christ, Paul urged them to be busy and engage in ventures while doing so. Some of them had stopped working so Paul reminded them of how they themselves toiled night and day to provide for their needs and not be a burden to any of them (v. . This was to serve to them as an example to follow (v. 9). For emphasis, he declared that _"If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat"_ (v. 10).

Since we must eat daily and do not know the actual day of Jesus' Second Coming, we must continue in normal daily activities, including engaging in meaningful ventures while waiting. Are you idle? Prayerfully ask God to help you get engaged in something meaningful. Are you unemployed? May the Lord come to your rescue and make you smile very soon. However, you must engage in little things while waiting for that breakthrough!

Lord Jesus, help me to overcome every spirit of laziness and idleness while awaiting Your return. *Amen*

And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,
10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,
12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
13 But we are [a]bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through [b]sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,

THE MESSAGE:

The Christian race is never easy but it must be run by the people of God. The way is filled with challenges which we must overcome as we run. However, we must remember that the same race was run by our forebears and they had victory. Ours shall not be different in Jesus Name!

Paul was urging the Thessalonian believers (and by extension, us too) to stand fast or firm and hold the traditions they were taught, either by their word or through letters (verse 15). He prayed for comfort in their hearts and that they be established in every good word and work. The race will only end by the appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ. Though we don't know when, let us not give up on the way because at such an hour and time when we do not expect, the trumpet will sound. While we wait for His return, we must continue to work knowing that our labour in the Lord is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58). Like the Scouts Movement motto, 'Be prepared.'

TOPIC: THE DAY OF THE LORD
READ: 2 THESSALONIANS 2:1-7

1Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters,
2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come.
3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.
4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
5 Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?
6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.

THE MESSAGE:

The Day of the Lord means different things to different people. For believers in Christ, it will be a great day of deliverance and rejoicing. To the unbelievers, it will be a day of anguish and terrible suffering. While believers who eagerly await this Day wish it should come so soon so that transformation will take place; unbelievers may secretly be wishing it never comes. The truth remains that the Day must come. In verse 3 of our text, Paul warns that nobody should deceive us because that Day will not come unless the falling away first comes (the predicted great falling away of those who have professed to be Christians has come-AMP).

In times like this, what are we expected to be and to do? We must hold firmly to our faith so that we shall not be part of the falling away, no matter when it comes. We must continue in the study of the Word of God and be obedient to its instructions. Again, we must always remain prayerful and depend on the Holy Spirit for direction. With these and determination to make it, we will not be caught unawares.

PRAYER: May the Day of the Lord never meet me unprepared in the Name of Jesus. Amen.

9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
10 when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who [a]believe, because our testimony among you was believed.
11 Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power,
12 that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

THE MESSAGE:

Acts 1:11 tell us that the same Jesus taken up to heaven will come back the same way He was taken up. And He is coming with His reward in His hands (verses 7b-10; Revelation 12:12). Fitting reward will be given to everyone according to his or her deeds. Being banished from the presence and glory of the Lord is a terrible and horrible experience. You cannot afford to be a partaker of such.

These revelations should make every believer to be dedicated to a true relationship with God and a commitment to an unpolluted life and holy living. Having this in his mind, Paul prayed a kingdom-based prayer for the Thessalonian believers that is worthy of emulation (verses 11-12). We should be engaged in such a prayer, especially now when brethren are busy praying self-centered prayers and receiving-of-physical-things prayers. Many of the prayer topics border only on material things: Contracts, office promotion, financial breakthroughs, marriage, etc. Though these are good requests, but we must also pray that souls be added to the Kingdom, and that we will remain heaven-bound! Beloved, strive to be RAPTURE READY!

PRAYER: Help me Lord to live to please You as I await for Your appearing!

READ: 1 THESSALONIANS 5:12-28

12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you.
13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.
16 Rejoice always,
17 pray continually,
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt
21 but test them all; hold on to what is good,
22 reject every kind of evil.
23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
25 Brothers and sisters, pray for us. 26 Greet all God’s people with a holy kiss.
27 I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers and sisters.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

THE MESSAGE:

In our text today, Paul gives his readers several instructions. In verses 12-13, he emphasises the need for us to regard highly in love, those who care and labour for us in the spirit, even as we also pray for them (verse 25). He also urges us to be at peace with everyone, comfort the faint-hearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all, not to render evil for evil, rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in everything, test all things and hold fast what is good. These are wonderful instructions from a leader to the led. Paul expects his readers to obey these instructions.

As modern leaders, we should use Paul's words to instruct and guide those we lead, even as we also serve as perfect examples to them. Among other things, challenging situations should not overwhelm our gratitude to God. We also need to give the Spirit the freedom to move among us as He wishes. True prophecies should not be treated with contempt. We must spread this word around. As our spiritual leaders instruct us daily from the Scriptures, we must be very diligent to carry them out.

PRAYER: Help me dear Lord, to follow to the letter; instructions from Your Word. Amen.

3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.
4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.
5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.
8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.
9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.
11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

*MESSAGE:*

The time and date of our Lord's (Jesus) Second Coming is known only by the Father Himself (Matt. 24:16). But mark this, it will come like a thief in the night. Thieves operate in concealment which calls for watchfulness and readiness. Anyone that walks in darkness is vulnerable to being attacked by anything.

While waiting and watching, we need to do the following:
(i). Walk in the light of the Word of God (Psa. 119:105) to enable us to be awake so that His coming will not take us by surprise. We must _"study to show yourself approved, a workman that needs not to be ashamed..."_ (2 Tim. 2:15).
(ii) We need to be sober-minded and love others, without which we shall just be noise makers (1 Cor. 13:1).
(iii) Guard jealously our prized salvation. We should put on the helmet of salvation to protect both the head and the body. When the head is destroyed, the body is of no effect.
(iv) We need to inculcate the habit of encouraging one another as we fellowship together (Heb. 10:25b). Discouragement is a veritable tool in the hand of the devil and he has used it on many, to the point of making them believe that Christianity is a scam.
(v) Be prayerful always (1 Thess. 5:17; Luke 18:1). We must also watch and pray so that we do not enter into temptation (Matt. 26:41).

13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.
14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

THE MESSAGE:

From our text today, Apostle Paul did not want the Thessalonian Church to be ignorant of the Second Coming of Jesus in His glory. The word 'rapture' is not explicitly mentioned in the Scripture. The pictorial final position of the saints triumphant and militant described in our text today, clearly represents rapture. This is the taking up of the saints, both dead and alive, to meet the Lord in the cloud as He descends from heaven with a shout, the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God.

This is a great comfort to all believers, especially when we lose a dear one in Christ and undergo all kinds of challenges. We know that one day, we will be together again in God's glorious kingdom. As a faithful bride, let us be encouraged with this fact that a pay day is coming in which our Lord will reward us greatly for all our labour of love (1 Corinthians 15:58). We shall ever be with Him, and this should be our consolation in this world.

PRAYER: Father, may I be prepared and alert in the Spirit always as I wait for Your coming in glory. May I not be caught unawares, Amen.

1 Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God;
2 for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;
4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God;
6 that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified.
7 For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.

*MESSAGE:*

In our text, Apostle Paul instructed the Thessalonian church on the need to walk and please the Lord in holiness. In view of their union with God, he made them know that it is the will of God that they be sanctified by separating themselves from profane things and being absolutely dedicated to God. They were to abstain from sexual immorality and should know how to control their body in holiness and honour (vv. 3-4).

Beloved, we are called unto a life of holiness, purity and righteousness in Christ. Therefore the need for us to be faithful to God in this age which is filled with compromise, cannot be over-emphasised. Christ is coming for a blameless and spotless church (Eph. 5:27) that will bring Him glory and honour. As Christians, we must make every effort to do away with habits and lifestyles that are profane. Instead, we must live a life of sanctification, being sold out completely to God. This is the will of God for us. Let us shun every form of unrighteous and ungodly lifestyle and present our life as a living sacrifice unto God.

*MESSAGE:*

Whenever a plantain tree bears fruit in fullness, it requires a practical support to enable it carry the fruit to maturity for use by its owners. This was exactly what Paul did for the brethren in Thessalonica. He sent Timothy to the young Church that was growing very fast, so as to sustain their faith in Jesus Christ and make them remain holy before God Almighty.
Timothy did exactly what Paul would have done if Paul had been present. He motivated them and cheered them on to grow (v. 7). Then, he reported to Paul how their faith had flourished (vv. 6-. He led the way for praying for what they may still be lacking (vv. 9-10).

Beloved, whenever you are sent out on an assignment to represent your leader, how do you present issues? Do you blackmail him/her or present the issues as your leader would do? As a leader, how do you respond to the people growing or doing well under your leadership? Do you oppress or support them to do better? Remember Galatians 6:2.

*MESSAGE:*

The words of Jesus Christ in John 16:33 _"... in this world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world"_ is a practical situation of the experience of the Apostle Paul for his ministry towards the young church at Thessalonica (Acts 17:5-9). Though they were pre-warned of the coming persecution, still the faith of the young brethren was unknown. So, Paul considered it wise to send Timothy to the Church to rekindle their zeal for Christ. This shows leadership accountability (v. 1). Timothy provided strength and encouragement to the young Church (v. 2). This effort worked to rescue those who might have fallen away (v. 3). They fought to ensure that their work had not been in vain (vv. 4-5). Timothy brought back a positive report of the Church to Paul and the brethren, of their growth and how they longed to see them (v. 6).

How do you respond to challenges which you think would come in the lives of young brethren in our churches and society? (Gal. 6:2). It is the duty and responsibility of Christian leaders to encourage and strengthen young believers by guiding and directing them on the right path and preventing them from falling. It is important that we review our commitment and service to the Lord along this line, daily.

TOPIC: BEING IN HIS GLORY
READ: LUKE 9:28-36

28 About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.
29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.
30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus.
31 They spoke about his departure,[a] which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. 32 Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. 33 As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)
34 While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
35 A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.” 36 When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen.

THE MESSAGE:

Today is marked as the Transfiguration of Christ in the Church Calendar. Jesus took three of His disciples - Peter, James and John - to the mountain to pray. While praying, His countenance changed and He was transfigured (transformed into glory). He was then joined by Moses (representing the Law) and Elijah (representing the Prophets), who interacted with Him. The significance is that these men surrendered authority to Jesus who came to fulfil the Law and the Prophets. Because the disciples were sleeping, they could not record what Jesus discussed with Moses and Elijah; that is the danger of sleeping at the wrong time. Any person moving from a hot to a very cool environment will probably want to remain there except the person is suffering from fever. Of course, Peter suggested to Jesus that they build three tabernacles for the three personalities as to remain permanently there.

It was while Jesus Christ prayed at the mountain that the transformation came and was witnessed by those He took along (verse 32). So the place of change is at the altar of prayer. This reveals that if we set aside time to pray as Jesus did in verse 28, we too will experience the glory of the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Beloved, what therefore, can limit us from experiencing this glory? See 1 John 2:15-17 and Proverbs 4:23. We also see that as we enter into His glory, we shall hear Him clearly and be able to understand His ways (verse 35). May this be our portion, in Jesus' Name, Amen.

PRAYER: Father, grant me the grace to always experience Your glory in Jesus' Name, Amen.

Surely you remember, brothers and sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you.
10 You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed.
11 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children,
12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.
13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.
14 For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews
15 who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone
16 in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at last.[a]
17 But, brothers and sisters, when we were orphaned by being separated from you for a short time (in person, not in thought), out of our intense longing we made every effort to see you.
18 For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan blocked our way.
19 For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?
20 Indeed, you are our glory and joy.

THE MESSAGE:

Continuing from where he stopped yesterday, Paul in today's text narrates what examples he and the other apostles were to the Thessalonian Church. He was grateful to God continually that when the Thessalonian Church heard the Word from them, they received it as the Word of God and not that of men (verse 13). According to Paul, he and his co-labourers were eager to visit the Church to encourage them and their new-found faith but Satan hindered them. This incident must have led Paul to write this letter. Paul emphatically stated that their hope or joy in rejoicing would be them in the presence of Jesus Christ at His coming.

As a believer in Christ, what gives you joy or what do you glory in? Everything here on earth is temporary and will one day vanish. Our glory, joy and rejoicing should be those who together with us, will appear in the presence of Christ at His Second Coming. Let us jointly work towards this while there is still time, by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Personal Saviour and working out our salvation with fear and trembling.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, may I be an instrument to bring men to Your presence at Your appearing, Amen.

2 You know, brothers and sisters, that our visit to you was not without results.
2 We had previously suffered and been treated outrageously in Philippi, as you know, but with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in the face of strong opposition.
3 For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you.
4 On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.
5 You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed—God is our witness.
6 We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority.
7 Instead, we were like young children[a] among you.
Just as a nursing mother cares for her children,
8 so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.

THE MESSAGE:

In our text today, we see Paul emphasise how he and the other apostles were good examples for the Thessalonian Church to emulate. According to him, the qualities that qualified them to be emulated include - they did not teach them deceitfully (verse 3), they taught them aiming to please God and not men (verse 4), they didn't use flattering words neither did they use words to cover up greed - (GNT; verse 5), they did not seek glory from men (verse 6), and, they were gentle among them (verse 7).

As Christian leaders in our churches in contemporary times, we are expected to be good examples like Paul, to those we shepherd. We are expected to give account to God for them. If you have not been measuring up in this regard, you should humbly ask God for the grace to start today or improve on what you are presently doing. May the Lord help you to do this!

PRAYER: Merciful Father, may You help me to be a good example to people around me, Amen.

7 And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.
8 The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it,
9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.

THE MESSAGE:

Paul commended the Thessalonian Church of imitating the apostles and Christ by responding to the Gospel in spite of affliction. By so doing, they became examples to other believers in Macedonia and Achaia (verses 6-7). They abandoned their idolatrous background to follow Christ and "to serve the living and true God" (verse 9). There was a total turnaround by the Thessalonians.

In our Christian journey, may we emulate the Thessalonian Church by totally yielding ourselves to serving the Lord! Let us abandon anything that still encumbers us from totally serving the Lord in Spirit and in truth. Let us have a heart check today and abandon every dumb idol in our lives which may be hindering us from following Christ and serving God wholeheartedly. May the Lord bless us as we take this important step!

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, please help me to turn away from every wrong direction and to follow You fully.

TOPIC: CHILDREN AND THE KINGDOM OF GOD

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them.
3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
6 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
7 Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!
8 If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire.
9 And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.
10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. .

THE MESSAGE:

IN out text, Jesus talks about little children and the kingdom of God. As the Apostles were struggling amongst themselves to know who was the greatest, Jesus informed them that they must be as humble as a little child. Little children are trusting, lowly, loving, open and eager to learn, and also forgiving, among other things. Jesus warned that if anyone causes children to sin, such a person will be in serious trouble (verse 6). He also warned that we must not despise little children because in heaven, their angels behold the face of God (verse 10). That is, children enjoy a special privilege.

How do you treat little children - your own children and those of others? Remember, they occupy a special place in the heart of God. We must therefore be careful how we handle them. As Jesus stated, we must humble ourselves like these little children if we must enter heaven. That is, we must be children in heart and in attitude, to make heaven. How ready are you? Some people say that God does not have grandchildren but only children. So, anyone who humbles himself like a little child, is a child of God.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, make me a little child in thought and action so I can qualify for heaven.

5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake

THE MESSAGE:

Paul was labouring in prayer for the Thessalonian Church. However, his prayer concern was not what obtains today in the modern Church, especially in Africa. The content of his prayer included - giving thanks to God for them, remembering constantly their work of faith, their labour of love and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

All believers in Christ are required to pray. The issue is, what do we pray about? Many modern Churches in Africa concentrate on prayer for themselves and material blessings alone. Philippians 4:6 enjoins us thus, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." Some of us pray out of anxiety - what shall we eat, what shall we drink, what shall we put on? And when we do this, we find it difficult to intercede for others or to pray for their spiritual growth, like Paul did for the Thessalonian believers. May the Lord help us to change our prayer focus!

PRAYER: Oh Lord, give me the burden to pray for others. Amen.

THE MESSAGE:

The waiting room, for most people, is one of the least favourite places to be. Whether in a doctor's office, in a bank or at the airport, it reflects a condition of wanting to be in some place else but not being able to get there, at least for the moment. It's where God tests our commitment and grows our faith. It's here we prepare for the next leg of the journey. As we wait on the Lord, we learn and experience trust (Habakkuk 2:3). Immediate answers to prayer are wonderful, but more often than not, waiting is involved to see the promise fulfilled.

The task at hand is the name of the room: The waiting room! When you are in the waiting room, understand your assignment which is to wait! It isn't easy to wait. It demands holding on when common sense says “give-up.” It says “believe” when there is no present evidence to back it up. Faith is built in delay. Character is built in delay. The 'building' is the gap between the promise and the fulfilment. As gold is purified and shaped in the heat, so we and our faith are purified and shaped in waiting. Do not fail in prayers, confession of God's word, giving and worship. You're close to your answers.

PRAYER: Father; give me the grace to patiently wait for Your leading in all my pursuit. Amen!

*MESSAGE:*

Restoration is the spiritual adjustment that comes when we turn to God and call on Jesus as Saviour. God brings us back to him first, like in Ezekiel 36: 26-27. He gives us a new heart and a new spirit. When the Lord takes away the guilt of sin, He will break the power of sin, that it may not have dominion over us. God's restoration refers to gaining from or getting right with Him, and once we have found our right place with Him, we work with Him into our purpose.

Difficulties and adversities have made most of us to fall into sin. Challenges have tested our faith, toughness, and the very core of our being. These struggles, whether they be related to relationships, health, work, or personal failure, can leave us feeling broken and incomplete. They make us question our worth and purpose, and sometimes, lead us to believe we are beyond repair. But therein lies the incredible power of restoration. It is the promise that no matter how far we have fallen, no matter how broken we feel, we can be made whole again and restored in the image of God. We can reclaim our worth, dignity, and purpose. It means that we can turn our adversities into lessons, our failures into stepping stones, and our despair into hope.

Everyone lies in wait to shed blood;
they hunt each other with nets.

THE MESSAGE:

In your search for your enemies, please do not look far, look inwards. Today's text reveals to us that man's greatest enemies are people of his own household (verses 5 & 6). We live in a world where wives arrange for their husbands to be kidnapped. Husbands kill their wives for money. Siblings conspire against their blood brothers because of inheritance. Some fathers can no longer eat food prepared by their wives or children, for fear of being poisoned. Many preachers today work for the devil. Lady evangelists run baby factories where vulnerable girls are contracted to produce babies that are sold like common articles of commerce. Wickedness has become normal while kindness is like an irregular occurrence (verses 1-6).

It is a wicked world where supposed protectors of rights are now promoters of evil (verse 3). Princes collude with spoilers of the system for evil gains. It is so shocking that today, finding a good man is as difficult as finding good fruits after harvest is over (verse 1). We therefore need the wisdom of God not to be victims of wickedness (Matthew 10:16).

PRAYER: Lord, please give me wisdom to live and win in this wicked world. Amen!

And the short measure that is an abomination?
11 Shall I count pure those with the wicked scales,
And with the bag of deceitful weights?
12 For her rich men are full of violence,
Her inhabitants have spoken lies,
And their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.
13 “Therefore I will also make you sick by striking you,
By making you desolate because of your sins.
14 You shall eat, but not be satisfied;

THE MESSAGE:

The thought of harvest is a great motivation for every worker. Likewise, the thought of holding the trophy motivates athletes and knocks out tiredness and fatigue (Hebrews 12:2). But in a situation where the expected harvest is certain to be wasted, as we have it in today's text (verses 14, 15), calls for serious measures to be taken. Our text presents a fruitless labour which is brought about by God, and not by witches. It is a divine judgement against wickedness among God's own people (verses 12-14). Such labour will be like pouring water into the basket (Job 11:20; Proverbs 13:12). At the time when they should enjoy rest, God would suddenly show up to blow off their harvest (verse 15; Isaiah 48:22).

It is the eternal destiny of God's enemies to fail. Therefore, do not make yourself God's enemy because you cannot prevail against Him (Acts 9:5). The reason for your frustration over business, work or children, may not necessarily be the devil. It may be that God Himself is against you. Hence, break off your wickedness by being righteous and your iniquities by showing mercy (Daniel 4:27).

PRAYER: Lord help me not to lose my harvest, in Jesus' Name. Amen!

So Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized;

THE MESSAGE:

Today is dedicated to one of Jesus Christ’s twelve apostles – James, “the Great.” He was one of Jesus’ distinguished apostles and the only apostle, whose martyrdom was recorded in the New Testament (Acts 12:1-2). James the Apostle recorded many outstanding achievements, and this is the reason he has “the Great” attached to his name to differentiate him from one other apostle who also bore the same name. The Bible recorded that he was among the three apostles who were present with Jesus Christ at the Mount of Transfiguration (Mark 9:2) and the Garden of Gethsemane (Mark 14:33). Of course, he was always with Jesus Christ at the key moments of His ministry.

True greatness does not come easily! A price must be paid! This was the message of Jesus Christ to these two disciples in the passage we read today. Their desires for the sitting positions revealed that they had not really understood the secret of true greatness, though they had been walking with God. Jesus had given them the guidelines for true greatness they had to be ready to pay the great price He had paid. Do you want to be truly great in your life – spiritually, academically, economically or professionally? Get ready to pay the true price! There is true price for true greatness.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to pay the price for true greatness in life and destiny. Amen!

Ten thousand rivers of oil?
Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
[a]The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8 He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,

THE MESSAGE:

The prophet Micah is further moved in the Spirit to search out the right attitude of response to the call of God unto His people, Israel. First, there has to be a yielding heart which acknowledges that one had deviated. “With what shall I come before the Lord and bow myself?" (verse 6). Luke 15:16, notes concerning the prodigal son, “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, I will go home to my father and say, “Father; I have sinned against both heaven and you." (NLT). Therefore, until one recognises one's state of spiritual misery, one cannot think of repentance! Prophet Micah went further to list what the people consider the right attitudes that would appease God: Sacrifice offerings, sowing seed offerings, paying tithes, as well as giving to orphans, widows and the less-privileged. All these are good gestures, but they cannot justify a sinner before God.

The right response to true repentance is outlined in verse 8, "... and what does God require of you, But to do justly; To love mercy and to walk humbly with your God!" Psalm 51:17 says, "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” Beloved, that is the right attitude God wants us to put up. As we acknowledge and are convicted of our sinfulness and faults, we should repent and begin to do good. Today, we must turn away from our sins and turn to Jesus Christ in true brokenness of spirit, embrace His free gift of salvation and receive justification before God.

PRAYER: Lord I surrender to You today. Please change my life and accept me into Your fold again, in Jesus' Name. Amen!

For the Lord has a complaint against His people,

3 “O My people, what have I done to you?
And how have I wearied you?
Testify against Me.
4 For I brought you up from the land of Egypt,
I redeemed you from the house of bondage;
And I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
5 O My people, remember now
What Balak king of Moab counselled,
And what Balaam the son of Beor answered him,

*THE MESSAGE:*

Micah's prophecies focused on judgement and condemnation of sin, calling for repentance and hope for restoration and redemption. In today's text, we can see God asking His people, Israel, a couple of deep and conscience-pricking questions (verse 3). He went further to call their minds to history and all the efforts He made in rescuing them from slavery in Egypt, fighting their various battles all through their journey to the Promised Land, feeding them in the wilderness, and even going all out for them (to the extent of punishing and dislodging other sinful nations for their sakes); as well as in demonstration of His mercies; and patiently searching for them while they kept deviating to disobedience, idolatry and injustice (verses 4-5). He never gave up on them!

Beloved, we are being asked such deep questions today. Can you recollect the efforts God has made in your life? Can you recollect how He rescued you from that accident, blackmail, conspiracy and all manner of dangerous situations, just so that you can truly realise His love for you, serve Him and not perish in your iniquity? It is never His intention that anyone should perish, but that all will come to repentance and live eternal life (2 Peter 3:9). Today, God is yet extending that grace of a second chance and long rope of patience so that all (including you) can turn from evil. Don't ignore any further, this Divine passionate appeal to you for salvation and redemption of your soul. God has kept you alive again today, giving you another chance. Perhaps it may be your last day on earth. Please embrace Him right away!

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I yield to Your call and knock at the door of my heart this day. Please show me mercy, save me and give me grace to live for You henceforth. Amen!

THE MESSAGE:

Mary Magdalene's encounter with Jesus at the empty tomb deeply affected her life. She was initially overwhelmed by grief and confusion upon finding the tomb empty, but everything changed when she met the risen Christ. Seeing Jesus alive brought her clarity and joy, replacing her sorrow and doubt. This encounter filled her with hope and gave her a new purpose as Jesus sent her to share the news of His resurrection.

As Christians, we can learn from Mary Magdalene's experience at the tomb. Like Mary who felt lost and confused but found comfort and direction in meeting the risen Christ, we too can seek God in moments of sadness, uncertainty, or despair. Her story reminds us that God is always near, offering help and guidance during life's challenges. Just as Mary was entrusted with the mission of proclaiming Jesus' resurrection, Christians are also called to share the message of hope and salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. Her example encourages us to embrace our role in spreading the Gospel, bringing hope and encouragement to those in need. By following Mary's example of faith, transformation, and dedication, we can find strength and purpose in our walk with God and in serving others.

PRAYER: Lord, may I find comfort, purpose, and strength in Your presence and embrace my mission to share Your message of hope and salvation with others. Amen!

THE MESSAGE:

In continuation of yesterday's passage, Micah 5:8-15, draws us into a divine narrative of judgment and justice. The seamless transition from verses 8-9 to 10-14 reveals a striking message of God's purging of ancient Israel, removing their false trust in military might and idols. The declaration in verse 15 resounds with the promise of God's righteous judgment and vengeance upon those who refuse to repent, reminding us of His unchanging justice.

In our modern lives, we, as believers, are called to heed the lessons from Micah's prophecy. Like the Israelites of old, we are urged to place our trust solely in God, removing our reliance on worldly powers and false idols. In the midst of the confusion and uncertainties of our time, we can find comfort in surrendering our fears and worries to the Almighty, knowing that He will bring forth justice and righteousness according to His divine plan.

PRAYER: Lord, grant me faith in Your righteous judgment and justice and remove my anxiety as I trust in Your promise of justice for those who do not repent. Amen.
