THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: TUESDAY, JANUARY 20, 2026
TOPIC: THE BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR KINGDOM WORK
READ: JOHN 3:1-8 (NKJV)

Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council.
2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]”
4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.
6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit.
7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’
8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

THE MESSAGE:

Nicodemus, afraid of what the people would say, came to Jesus by night. He started a conversation by praising Jesus, probably thinking that he would receive a commendation from Jesus. However, Jesus who knows the need of every man and sees into the heart, quickly interrupted him, "......... except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." In other words, though you are a Jewish leader, possibly serving the people with all your life, you must be born again in order to see God's kingdom. When Nicodemus wondered the possibility of such a new birth, Jesus told him that it was a matter of being born of the Spirit of God.

Many people today are busy for God doing one thing or the other in Churches, fellowships and in other religious groups, without having experienced the new birth. Perhaps Nicodemus' visit was a quest for knowledge, to probe into the secrets of how to work miracles. The Lord offered him life, the new birth experience. Whatever God will do in and with you begins here. You must be born again. Seek not high things, start with the basics! Are you born again? Jesus will first of all offer life to you before recruiting you into effective service.

PRAYER: Father, please grant unto me genuine encounter with the Saviour. Jesus Christ.

TOPIC: REVIVE US AGAIN
READ: JOHN 2:12-25 (NKJV)

12 After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.
13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money.
15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.
16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”
17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”[a]
18 The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”
19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”
20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?”
21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body.
22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.
23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.[b] 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people.
25 He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.

THE MESSAGE:

Jesus went up to Jerusalem to attend the Passover of the Jews. He observed that people were selling animals for sacrifices and exchanging money for visitors. These people had turned the Feast of Passover into a means of doing business, making money, and feeling relevant. They were exploiting people coming to the Passover from far distances, by making them part with their hard-earned resources. This did not go down well with Jesus Christ who made a whip of cords and drove them out of the temple because they were not honouring God with their actions.

What started out as "the Lord's Passover" (Exodus 12:11,27), had now become the Jews' Passover" (verse 13). If the Lord of the Passover made a whip of small cords in those days, He would certainly make same for this generation. Today, we have made merchandise of the grace of God, and cannot be trusted with His precious pearls. Are you part of those who steal Church money entrusted to your care? Jesus will come one day for you. Do away with religion that is void of the fear of God! Arise with fervency in pursuit of God until streams of His refreshing flow over you, overwhelmingly. Ask God for self-revival today!

PRAYER: Father; let Thy kingdom come and may the fear for Your Name overwhelm us.

12 After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.
13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business.

17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”
18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”
19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
20 Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”

22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did.
24 But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men,
25 and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: SUNDAY, JANUARY 18, 2026
(Epiphany 2)
TOPIC: INVOLVING GOD IN ALL THINGS
READ: JOHN 2:1-11 (NKJV)

1.On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there,
2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
4 “Woman,[a] why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[b]
7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so,
9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside
10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

THE MESSAGE:

The marriage feast at Cana of Galilee remains a popular and unfading story, simply because Jesus was there. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was at that wedding. Jesus and His disciples were also invited. Mary noticed a problem during the wedding, went to Jesus and instructed the servants to do whatever He told them. What made the feast remarkable was the miracle performed by Jesus, how that He turned water into wine. Not only was there a miracle of wine but that the wine was confirmed to be the best of wines by the governor of the feast.

Many people live their lives without involving God in what they do. They only remember God when things go wrong or when there is a problem. The embarrassing situation that arose at that wedding could have brought shame and disgrace to both the wedding couple and their friends and relatives. But since they invited Jesus, He brought solution to their problem. When we invite Jesus into our life, He brings the best out of it. God's way is to give the best first, and always. Why involve Him only when your own wine fails meanwhile, you could involve Him at the very beginning and get the best?

PRAYER: Father; help me to always trust in You and refuse to lean on my own understanding. Amen.

*DATE:* SATURDAY, 17TH JANUARY, 2026 *THEME:* THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST

*TEXT:* JOHN 1: 19-51 _*(NKJV)*_

19 Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the Prophet?”
And he answered, “No.”
22 Then they said to him, “Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
23 He said: “I am
‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
“Make straight the way of the Lord,” ’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”
24 Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees.
25 And they asked him, saying, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26 John answered them, saying, “I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know.
27 It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.”
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
30 This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’
31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.”
32 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.
33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples.
36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”
37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?”
39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).
40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ).
42 And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, “You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas” (which is translated, A Stone).
43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.”
44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
46 And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”
48 Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”
51 And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”

*MESSAGE:*

When asked who he was, John promptly replied that he was not the Christ. John's reason for baptising was that the Messiah would be made manifest to Israel. Notice that despite being blood cousins, John did not know Jesus as the Messiah until the Father revealed Jesus to him. When Jesus met Nathaniel and told him that he saw him under a fig tree, Nathaniel got a revelation that Jesus was the Son of God and King of Israel.

The Father still reveals Christ! Flesh and blood cannot reveal Christ but the Father in heaven (Matt. 16: 16-17). You cannot make manifest to the world, the Jesus you have not known personally. Like Philip, you can only invite others to see the Christ you have seen for yourself. Do you have a revelation of who Jesus is? In order to get this revelation, you need to become a follower of Jesus. You need to become a member of the family of God and then commit your life to Him and to His service. Who do you say that Jesus Christ is? Do you have a personal revelation of who He is?

*PRAYER:*
Father; I beseech You to give me wisdom to see clearly and understand who Christ is and all that He has done for me. *Amen*

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: TUESDAY, JANUARY 13, 2026
TOPIC: SHINING AS LIGHTS IN THE WORLD
READ: MATTHEW 4:12-17 (NKJV)

12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.
13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali—
14 to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah:
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles—
16 the people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.”[a]
17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

THE MESSAGE:

John's imprisonment made Jesus to go to Capernaum, near the Sea of Galilee. He thereby fulfilled the prophecy concerning the land of Zebulon and Naphtali, where the inhabitants saw a great light. It was from that time that Jesus preached that men should repent, for the Kingdom of God was near.

As the ministry of the forerunner, John the Baptist, came to an end, that of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, began. Capernaum happens to be Christ's ministerial base or headquarters. The influence that His presence would bring to this location and its environs, was long prophesied: "The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up." We have in our time, the multiplication of Churches, yet little or no impact! Darkness seems to pervade our society and has even encroached the Church. We must rise and shine as lights in the midst of a crooked and perverse world; as this is what makes us Christians (Philippians 2:15). How often do you preach the Gospel to unbelievers? Determine to win a soul today by preaching Christ, where you are!

PRAYER: Father; hold me up in Your hand to remain a shining light in this world.

*THEME:* OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS

*TEXT:* MATTHEW 4: 1-11 _*(NKJV)*_

4 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.
3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple,
6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’
and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”
8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

*MESSAGE:*

In the first temptation of Jesus, the devil asked Him to turn stones into bread if He was the Son of God. Jesus refused. After taking Jesus to a high point of the temple, the devil requested Him to throw Himself down if He was the Son of God because angels would come to His rescue. Jesus used the Scripture that forbids any man to tempt God. Thereafter, the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world. He promised to give them to Christ if He would bow down and worship him. Jesus responded that the Scripture says to worship and serve the Lord only.

Temptation comes to everybody. Whereas the first Adam failed, the last Adam, Christ, overcame. This victory over temptation is for all believers. As we boldly approach the throne of grace, we will find help whenever we are faced with temptation (Heb. 4: 14-16). The lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life are of the world (1 John 2: 16). The Lord Jesus was tempted but did not sin. This is because He delighted in the word of God. Reading, studying, meditating, memorising as well as obedience to God's word, are the daily habits of faithful Christians. How do you cope with temptations?

*PRAYER:*
Father; help me to study the Word and use it to overcome temptations. *Amen*

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: SUNDAY, JANUARY 11, 2026
(Epiphany 1)
TOPIC: SECURING AND SUSTAINING OPEN HEAVEN
READ: MATTHEW 3:13-17 (NKJV)

13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

THE MESSAGE:

Jesus Christ went to the Jordan to be baptised by John. After an initial resistance, John baptised Him. As He came out of the river, the heavens were opened to Him, and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in the form of a dove. A voice came suddenly from heaven confirming Him as God's beloved Son in whom He was well pleased.

God does not place His seal of endorsement upon any man He has not proven. This standard remains sure even for His only Son. The Lord Jesus had to leave His comfort zone and travel many kilometers in order to submit to John's baptism. This is called renouncing self. Even John the Baptist resisted Him, but the Lord insisted that it was a righteous requirement for Him. The high point is not the baptism but the self-renunciation shown by the Lord. It is upon this that the heavens were opened unto Him, the Holy Spirit lighted upon Him without any hindrance, and the voice of the Father endorsed Him. If the heavens must be opened upon us, God's standard remains total renunciation of self.

PRAYER: Father; please help me to see that my worst enemy is SELF. Give me grace to deny myself.

*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_

*DATE:* SATURDAY, 10TH JANUARY, 2026

*THEME:* GENUINE REPENTANCE

*TEXT:* MATTHEW 3: 1-12 _*(NKJV)*_

1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”
3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying:
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight.’ ”
4 Now John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
5 Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him
6 and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,
9 and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
10 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

*MESSAGE:*

John the Baptist was in the desert of Judea preaching that the people should repent because the kingdom of Heaven was approaching. John's dressing and food were ordinary. However, many people came to him to be baptised at River Jordan as they confessed their sins. John challenged the Pharisees and Sadducees who came for baptism to show the evidence of repentance and not to rely on just being the children of Abraham. He also told them that a greater personality was coming who would be more impactful.

Today, baptism that should be an outward visible sign of an inward spiritual grace, is now a mere outward ritual of the church which members just carry out to belong to the church. If John the Baptist were to be here today, his fiery words would have still have been "Brood of vipers!" The need for genuine repentance-a process that begins from the heart-must be emphasised. A proof is required in genuine repentance to discourage mere profession and outward show (v.cool. The kingdom of God which John the Baptist preached about is only accessible to all who have genuinely repented of their sins. This prepares the repentant sinner for the refreshing that comes from the presence of the Lord (vv.11-12; Acts 3: 19).

*PRAYER:*
Father; I repent of all my sins; please send forth the refreshing that comes with Your Presence. *Amen*
