THE MESSAGE:

In continuation of yesterday's passage, Micah 5:8-15, draws us into a divine narrative of judgment and justice. The seamless transition from verses 8-9 to 10-14 reveals a striking message of God's purging of ancient Israel, removing their false trust in military might and idols. The declaration in verse 15 resounds with the promise of God's righteous judgment and vengeance upon those who refuse to repent, reminding us of His unchanging justice.

In our modern lives, we, as believers, are called to heed the lessons from Micah's prophecy. Like the Israelites of old, we are urged to place our trust solely in God, removing our reliance on worldly powers and false idols. In the midst of the confusion and uncertainties of our time, we can find comfort in surrendering our fears and worries to the Almighty, knowing that He will bring forth justice and righteousness according to His divine plan.

PRAYER: Lord, grant me faith in Your righteous judgment and justice and remove my anxiety as I trust in Your promise of justice for those who do not repent. Amen.

*MESSAGE:*

In today's text, Jesus delivers a revolutionary teaching on love, forgiveness, and generosity. He calls His followers to love their enemies, bless those who curse them, and give without expecting anything in return. This passage emphasises the nature of God's kingdom, where mercy triumphs over judgment and grace exceeds human expectations. Jesus' instruction to _“be merciful, just as your Father is merciful"_ (v. 36) reflects God's character, setting the standard for Christian conduct. The principle of giving back in verses 37-38, shows that the measure we use toward others determines what we receive, underscoring the call to show divine compassion and fairness.

For believers in Christ, this passage challenges us to reflect God's unconditional love in our relationships. In a world often driven by revenge and self-interest, we are called to extend mercy and forgiveness, demonstrating Christ-like character, even to those who wrong us. THE MESSAGE:

Micah 4:9-13 reveals a prophetic vision of Israel's suffering and ultimate triumph. The passage begins with a lament over Israel's distress, portraying the nation as a woman in labour, symbolising intense pain and helplessness. Yet, this anguish is not the end - God promises deliverance and restoration. The imagery of Zion's enemies gathering like harvesters foreshadows their downfall as God transforms Israel's weakness into strength. Verses 12-13 highlight God's sovereignty, showing that He uses the struggles of His people to achieve His divine purposes, ultimately leading them to victory and dominion over their oppressors.

Today's passage offers reassurance that our present trials are part of God's greater plan for redemption. Like Israel, we may face moments of despair, but we are reminded to trust in God's timing and purposes. Through faith, we can endure hardships, knowing that God is refining us for a greater victory. Just as Israel was called to rise and thresh, we too are empowered to stand firm in God's strength, proclaiming His truth and advancing His kingdom even in the midst of adversity.

2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
3 And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
4 But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the Lord of hosts hath spoken it.
5 For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the Lord our God for ever and ever.

THE MESSAGE:

Micah 4:1-5 describes 4 freedoms:
1. Freedom from ignorance (He will teach us His ways);
2. Freedom from war (neither shall they learn war anymore);
3. Freedom from want (everyone shall sit under his vine and under his fig tree);
4. Freedom from fear (and no one shall make them afraid).
So many people today are not free. Many are still under the bondage of ignorance - they simply do not know what to do. Many are still under the bondage of sin, which has made them to be fearful. However, the scripture says that God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Many are heavily indebted and this has made them slaves to their creditors.

But there is a way out from all forms of slavery. The way out is in Micah 4:2, "And many nations shall come and say, "Come, let us go to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob" (TLB). You need to come to Jesus who guarantees total and all-round freedom. Make up your mind to be free from bondage. There is already a provision for you in Christ, you have tarried for so long. Matthew 11:28 says, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." You need rest; come to Jesus today.

PRAYER: Lord, I come unto You today, take away all my burdens, forgive my sins and grant me rest from all my troubles in Jesus' Name. Amen!

TOPIC: THE DANGERS OF CORRUPT LEADERSHIP

5 This is what the Lord says:
“As for the prophets
who lead my people astray,
they proclaim ‘peace’
if they have something to eat,
but prepare to wage war against anyone
who refuses to feed them.
6 Therefore night will come over you, without visions,
and darkness, without divination.
The sun will set for the prophets,
and the day will go dark for them.
7 The seers will be ashamed
and the diviners disgraced.
They will all cover their faces
because there is no answer from God.”
8 But as for me, I am filled with power,
with the Spirit of the Lord,
and with justice and might,
to declare to Jacob his transgression,
to Israel his sin.
9 Hear this, you leaders of Jacob,
you rulers of Israel,
who despise justice
and distort all that is right;
10 who build Zion with bloodshed,
and Jerusalem with wickedness.
11 Her leaders judge for a bribe,
her priests teach for a price,
and her prophets tell fortunes for money.
Yet they look for the Lord’s support and say,
“Is not the Lord among us?
No disaster will come upon us.”
12 Therefore because of you,
Zion will be plowed like a field,
Jerusalem will become a heap of rubble,
the temple hill a mound overgrown with thickets.

THE MESSAGE:

In Micah 3:5-12, the prophet rebukes Israel's prophets and leaders for their corruption and greed. Rather than guiding the people with fairness and truth, they delivered messages based on personal gain; favouring who gave them bribes and threatening those who refused to comply. Their manipulation of God's word shows their lack of integrity and genuine care for the people they were supposed to serve. Micah warned that because of their self-serving actions, God would remove His guidance, leaving them in spiritual darkness. Their actions, instead of securing safety, led to the coming destruction of Jerusalem, fulfilling God's verdict that He would not tolerate injustice (cf. Jeremiah 23:1-2).

For Christians today, this passage calls us to stand firmly against corruption and to be discerning about the spiritual leaders we follow. It reminds us to value integrity in those who guide us and challenges us to be sincere if we find ourselves in positions of leadership and influence at any level. As Jesus teaches, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves" (Matthew 7:15). God desires truthfulness and justice from His people. He urges us to reject dishonest motives and to live out His values. Our goal should be to lead others toward God's love and truth, rather than seeking selfish gains and interests.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to follow leaders of integrity while I live as an example of honesty and justice when I find myself in positions of leadership in Jesus' Name. Amen!

10 Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction.
11 If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.
12 I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.
13 The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the Lord on the head of them.

THE MESSAGE:

Micah revealed the deceitful prophets' lies, exposing their inability to truly give rest. False prophets' teachings are corrupted and bring absolute destruction rather than the peace, rest, and healing that God's word provides.Though God's people were promised judgment for their heavy wickedness, the goodness and mercy of God nevertheless, remained available to them when they truly repented (2 Chronicles 7:14-16). God assured the remnant of Israelites that they would be restored.

Oppression will not last forever; God is just and will not grow tired in saving His people because He is a loving Father. It is therefore essential to trust in His absolute power to save and restore. Prophets are on the rise and people would rather hear from the false prophets because they prophesy what they want to hear; they will therefore ignore the prophets of God because the truth is always bitter (Matthew 24:11). No matter how corrupt the world may look in this regard, there will always be a remnant to be restored to the original plan of God. May God find you worthy of His divine restorations in Jesus' Name. Amen.

29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a]
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[b]
31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[c] There is no commandment greater than these.”
32 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.

THE MESSAGE:

Jesus responded to the question of the scribes on the issue of the first and greatest commandment. He gave two commandments that summarised all the Mosaic laws in the scriptures (Exodus 20), to point out believers' relationships with God and with others. Jesus said the first of all the commandments is: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: and the second is like, you shall love your neighbour as yourself" (Mark 12:30-31). Love is a powerful emotion that builds bonds and encourages positivity between two or more individuals. Love is more than burnt offerings and sacrifices (Mark 12:33c). Hence, Jesus concluded that whoever loves is not far from the kingdom of God.

In 1 John 4:7-8, the Bible says: “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loves is born of God, and knows God. He that loves not, knows not God; for God is love." Verse 11 says: “Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another:" As believers, the evidence of our salvation is our total love for God and unconditional love for others. When we love, we have peace of mind, joy, progress, access to divine blessings and above all, we will have hope of eternal Life with God.

THE MESSAGE:

It is obvious from the passage we read yesterday that the LORD will come down from His holy place, and match upon the high places of the earth, and the valleys shall give way before Him. This prophecy became clearer in verses 12 & 13 of our text that: "The inhabitants of Maroth waited carefully for good: but it was evil that came unto the gate of Jerusalem... for the transgression of Israel were found.” Disobedience to God's word makes Him stay far away from sinners. An individual, a family or any nation that is found in sins falls short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). But for God so loved the world that He wouldn't want anyone to perish.

This is why He made provision for redemption of sinners by offering His only Son Jesus Christ as the perfect Saviour (John 3:16-17). Jesus is the promised heir to come with the glory of salvation. However, God expects that every sinner come to repentance to receive forgiveness and be made joint heirs of God through Jesus Christ so as to have eternal glory of the kingdom of God. Decide to give Christ a chance in your life today and you will be a partaker of God's glory.

PRAYER: Dear LORD, I surrender my life to You today. Make me a joint heir together with Jesus in Your eternal kingdom. Amen!

1 The word of the Lord that came to Micah of Moresheth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.
2 Hear, all you peoples!
Listen, O earth, and all that is in it!
Let the Lord God be a witness against you,
The Lord from His holy temple.
3 For behold, the Lord is coming out of His place;
He will come down
And tread on the high places of the earth.
4 The mountains will melt under Him,
And the valleys will split
Like wax before the fire,
Like waters poured down a steep place.
5 All this is for the transgression of Jacob
And for the sins of the house of Israel.
What is the transgression of Jacob?
Is it not Samaria?
And what are the high places of Judah?
Are they not Jerusalem?

THE MESSAGE:

Micah was a fearless prophet who preached against sin. He warned the people of Israel of severe consequences of their continuing in sin, and predicted the fall of Samaria and Jerusalem. He pronounced God's coming judgement on both Israel and Judah when they were losing their identity as God's people, as a result of their sins of idolatry and prostitution (verse 7). Prostitution portrays the picture of Israel's abandonment of the Lord, her true husband, in exchange for the blessings promised by the pagan gods whose carved images filled both Samaria and Jerusalem. However, God did not overlook their sins, rather, He sent the prophet Micah to warn them of the coming judgement.

Beloved, what are those things the devil is using to attract you to turn your heart away from God in order to lose your identity in Christ? How have you been handling God's warning? Always remember that sin exposes the sinner to God's judgement and destruction. Therefore, listen to God's warning by confessing and forsaking your sins today so as to escape God's wrath (Numbers 3:23; Hebrews 2:3-4).

PRAYER: Lord, please help me to listen to Your warnings to stay away from anything that may expose me to Your wrath. Amen!

THE MESSAGE:

Jude ends his Epistle with assuring words of encouragement to all faithful believers in Christ, that, in the midst of the prevailing threats of false teachers and their heretic teachings, God is able to keep them from falling and succumbing to the tempting doctrines of false teachers. God has the glory, the majesty, the power and the authority to keep and bring faithful believers in His presence, without a single fault.

Beloved, remember that no matter the challenges of life confronting you and your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, God is still able to keep you victorious to the end. God who kept Noah, Joseph and Paul holy in the midst of corrupted environment, is able to keep you from every evil doctrine and teachings such as "safe sex" before marriage or outside marriage, etc. (Genesis 6:5-9; 39:7-9; 2 Timothy 4:7-. However, for us to remain under the safety net of God, we must follow the seven guidelines mentioned by Jude in verses 17-23 of our text.

THE MESSAGE:

Holy faith means the revelation of God's being, nature and manifestation in nature, events and the life of mankind. It includes the understanding of God's love for the world, the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ to pay for the sins of man and save him from eternal damnation. It also involves living according to the word of God by allowing it enter and influence our daily lives. In addition, it means everything done to preserve and spread the love of God to mankind. To build is to consciously and systematically put in place things that will nurture growth of the faith and ensure that it is firmly rooted in God and His righteousness.

As Christians, the task before us is to take personal responsibility for the nurturing and establishment of our faith in God and refusing to allow distraction by the internet, false teachings, materialism, worldliness, negative influence from friends, etc., to hinder our growth in faith. We deserve to grow and we must grow. My friend, take the challenge: Build yourself!

PRAYER: Almighty God, grant me the grace to do what is required and needed for my growth in this most holy faith in Jesus' Name. Amen!

THE MESSAGE:

Unholy desires refer to love and passion for actions and behaviours that are against the written and spoken word of God. They also involve granting permission to, giving approval for and encouraging others in such behaviours that are against the will and purpose of God. Such attitudes and behaviours include all forms of sexual immorality, idolatry and ritualism, drug trafficking and use, cultism and violence, cyber fraud and all forms of financial crimes, as well as human trafficking and abuse.

Many Christians today are guilty of these unholy desires and are busy influencing others of their age group. However, we must say no to all forms and appearances of lifestyles that can endanger our future and eternity. Soak yourself daily in the word of God and be rooted in the love of God. Abstain from unholy desires!

PRAYER: Father Almighty, I ask for strength and grace to remain steadfast in You and stay away from all ungodly and unholy desires in Jesus' Name. Amen!

THE MESSAGE:

Our scripture passage today warns Christians against the danger of fake pastors who are wasting the community of Christians and misleading several believers with the appearance of righteousness on the internet and other media, both in action and words. Jude likens these people to hidden reefs, waterless clouds, trees without fruits, and wandering stars. These images convey the emptiness, instability, and destructive influence of fake preachers on genuine Christians. Jesus also warned about false prophets in Matthew 7:15, saying, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves." In 2 Peter 2:10-12, Peter warns of similar false teachers who are "bold and wilful" and “blaspheme the glorious ones."

We must be careful to test what we hear against God's Word, as was done by the Berean Christians in Acts 17:11, and press on in faithfulness to His teachings, given that Jesus is the Truth Himself (John 14:6). Do not engage in unnecessary argument, rather follow Jesus Christ as your standard as shown in the Scripture.

PRAYER: Lord, protect me from the subtle influences of false prophets and teachers that seek to lead me astray, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

THE MESSAGE:

Grace means God's undeserved favour and kindness towards people. It is unlimited when it has no limit or bound and extends to every human being on earth. The story from our text today brings to mind the value that our Lord Jesus Christ places on lost souls, and the extent of God's grace and mercy, as well as the great joy for repentant souls. The young man in today's passage enjoyed grace of restoration from his father, showing the depth of his father's love for him. The narrative is clear evidence that God's grace is unlimited and His love immeasurable. The parable shows us that no matter how far we might have strayed from the Lord, we are never beyond the reach of His grace.

Beloved, God's love for you is without limit: Nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Even in your failures and mistakes, God is waiting to welcome you home. According to Luke 15:7, “There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."

PRAYER: Lord, thank you for Your boundless love and mercy. Help me to allow this same love to flow out of my life to others, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

*MESSAGE:*

Whichever way you look at sin, it has only one end - destruction! In today's passage, Jude, using examples of various people in the old testament, warns against turning away from the way of God, by engaging in sinful practices such as apostasy, which is turning away from the faith and doing things that are totally against the will and purposes of God. The phrase 'woe' means 'great distress and sorrow.' When God declares 'woe' upon an individual, you can be sure that their end will indeed be sorrowful. The three people mentioned - Cain (Gen. 4:1-9), Balaam (Num. 22-24) and Korah, were guilty of jealousy, greed and rebellion (Num. 16:1-35). God's judgment is upon the wicked. This includes the jealous, greedy and rebellious.

You must realize, that though hands join in hands, the wicked will not go unpunished. Just Jude pointed out in today's passage, you must be careful in the way you live your life. The good news however, is that God is willing and ready to help us if we ask for his help (Titus 2:11-12). He will certainly help us to live acceptably to Him.

THE MESSAGE:

St Thomas, also known as Didymus, was one of the Apostles of Jesus Christ. He is also known as Doubting Thomas because he initially did not believe the resurrection of Jesus Christ when he was told. He later believed when Jesus appeared and asked him to touch His hands and sides. Because he saw and believed, Jesus Christ now said, blessed are those who do not see but believe. Waiting for proof and evidence is not a step in the direction of faith. Faith is taking God by His Word and integrity to fulfil His Word. There is a blessing that comes from believing God for who He is and what He is able to do.

In your Christian journey, you must avoid the pitfall of waiting for evidence before you believe the word of God. Situations and circumstances might be misleading when it comes to the will and purposes of God for your life; you need to believe the word of God and trust Him to glorify His name through the fulfilment of His promises for your life.

THE MESSAGE:

Today's text emphasises the reality of God's judgment against the rebellious and unrighteous. Sodom and Gomorrah who sold themselves to sexual immorality and perversion were given the right dose of God's anger and condemnation; angels who abandoned their estates were kept in darkness and bound with everlasting chains. God's judgment is severe and hard. God is merciful and kind but those who do not regard His words and instructions will face the consequence which is always very harsh and tough.

A life that is given to unrighteousness, perversion and immorality is running the danger of being confined to everlasting chain and torture. You must ensure that you resist whatever the devil does to lure you into unrighteousness. Again, you must do everything within your power as enabled by the power of the Holy Spirit, to persuade others to live their lives in righteousness and holiness so as to escape the anger and judgment of God.

PRAYER: Almighty God, help me to flee from unrighteous living so that my end will not be in everlasting chains. Amen!

THE MESSAGE:

To preserve means to be kept away from corruption and decomposition so that the original state can be maintained. Christians are of seeds that are incorruptible which lives and abide forever. The wicked forces will try as much as they can to bring pollution into the lives of children of God through various methods and means. But, our text today joyfully reassures us that those who are loved of God are preserved by the Lord Jesus Christ.

God who has called you is able to keep you till the end. The Christian journey is by faith in the complete work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary. Your faith is needed to keep you firmly rooted in the purposes and will of God. There is corruption and corrupting tendencies in the present world systems and values but a deep understanding, with strong conviction of the power and provisions of Jesus Christ to keep His loved ones, provide a strong base for standing strong in the face of temptations.

PRAYER: Lord, give me sufficient grace to preserve my faith in Jesus Christ to the end. Amen!

THE MESSAGE:

In concluding the Book of Zephaniah, God gave a message of hope to His people. The concept of the remnant was brought out very clearly. This remnant referred to those who have separated themselves from popular but ungodly lifestyles and choices; those that have distinguished themselves from the general pool of the worldly and rebellious company. According to Zephaniah, the remnant would not do iniquity or speak lies, neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth (verses 12 & 13). This group of people would act as God's ambassadors and God can entrust them with activities that would bring Him glory and honour.

Beloved, you are a member of the remnant group on earth today, by virtue of your faith in Jesus Christ. The nature of God is in you; the nature that hates sinful practices but embraces righteousness and peace (1 John 3:10). God is depending on you to bring out the truth in your immediate and distant environments. Wherever you find yourself, you are supposed to represent Jesus Christ, and you must live by the truth revealed in the Holy Scriptures. You are God's chosen generation, a person of His own and peculiar treasure (1 Peter 2:9). Therefore, live to honour Him. Even if all around you are opposed to the truth, you must stand for the Lord and be a symbol of His truth. As a member of the remnant group in this time, God depends on you and you cannot afford to disappoint Him.

THE MESSAGE:

From our reading today, we see a very polite, respectful and eager young man, who had a good understanding of the law and kept them from his youth. But one thing was lacking in his life: Salvation. He knew the law but did not know the Supreme Law-Giver - Almighty God! Jesus Christ burst his pride when He revealed to him what he lacked: He needed to surrender to Jesus Christ and follow Him. This young man was exceedingly sorrowful. It was easy for him to keep the law but following Jesus Christ was a big problem to him, because his heart was tied to his possessions. He found it difficult to move his loyalty from his wealth to the Lord (verses 16-22). No wonder Jesus Christ noted how difficult it would be for rich men to enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Beloved, we are God's ambassadors: the transmitters of His good news. It is wrong to think that a particular individual does not need the Gospel. Everyone does and it is only those who yield to the Lord are counted as His children (John 1:12). Some people may appear to have good knowledge of the scripture or be actively involved in the activities of the Church, but have no encounter with the Lord. It is our duty as Christians to keep sharing the good-news of Christ at every given opportunity.
This is the Great Commission of Jesus Christ to the Church (Matthew 28:19-21). There are still many people in our immediate environments and neighbourhood who have not yielded to the Saviour. It is your duty to present Jesus Christ to them.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, make me a responsible bearer of the Gospel message to everyone around me.

THE MESSAGE:

The Christian faith can be hated and persecuted but it can never be destroyed. The idolaters, religious terrorists, intolerant, atheists and others who attack and abuse the followers of Christ will be overthrown. They will end up as the wasted empires of old. The second chapter of Zephaniah tells of the Moabites and Ammonites who mocked and insulted the Israelites at every opportunity (verses 8-11). These enemy groups can be compared to present-day terrorist groups and demonic powers blowing up Churches and launching attacks at believers. However, they will not be victorious according to the word of the Lord, thus: "The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them" (verse 9).

Beloved, it is important for us to understand our spiritual environments as remnant of God's people. As Christians, God intends to use us as His battle axes and weapons of war to fight the good fight of faith in these last days (Jeremiah 51:20; 1 Timothy 6:12). Jesus has promised to build His Church in spite of attacks from different directions. The gates of hell can only try but cannot prevail against it (Matthew 16:18). History records how Rome persecuted the early Christians and was later possessed by them. The Communist Party in Russia also persecuted the Church but was later brought down by prayers. If you are facing hostility around you, ask God for strength to "plunder and possess" your enemies.

PRAYER: Pray today for Christians facing persecutions for deliverance and strength.

TOPIC: A CALL TO REPENTANCE
READ: ZEPHANIAH 2:1-7

Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together,
O [a]undesirable nation,
2 Before the decree is issued,
Or the day passes like chaff,
Before the Lord’s fierce anger comes upon you,
Before the day of the Lord’s anger comes upon you!
3 Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth,
Who have upheld His justice.
Seek righteousness, seek humility.
It may be that you will be hidden
In the day of the Lord’s anger.
4 For Gaza shall be forsaken,
And Ashkelon desolate;
They shall drive out Ashdod at noonday,
And Ekron shall be uprooted.
5 Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast,
The nation of the Cherethites!
The word of the Lord is against you,
O Canaan, land of the Philistines:
“I will destroy you;
So there shall be no inhabitant.”
6 The seacoast shall be pastures,
With [b]shelters for shepherds and folds for flocks.
7 The coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah;
They shall feed their flocks there;
In the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down at evening.
For the Lord their God will intervene[c] for them,
And return their captives.

THE MESSAGE:

God asked the people of Judah to 'gather together' to prepare themselves ahead of the coming judgment. It was a call to awaken them to understand the extent to which their unrighteousness had provoked God and the destruction that would soon come upon them. It was a call to take a wise and timely decision before God's fierce fury would fall on them when His anger began. God called Judah a 'shameless nation.' Though the ruler at the time, King Josiah, was a righteous king, his righteousness could not stop the impending doom that was the result of the iniquity of the people. God told him through Prophetess Huldah, "I will not send the promised disaster until after you have died (2 Kings 22:20). Nevertheless, despite Judah's shamelessness, God appeals to His people to repent.

Beloved, nothing is more precious to God than a life that is directed to His pleasure. You must humbly reflect over your life to see if it is a living sacrifice to God (Romans 12:1). Judgment is coming upon everyone who is unrighteous and unbothered about seeking eternal life through godly living. The Lord is full of mercy and desires that all men will be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). God has created a way of escape from the coming judgment for everyone who will come to Christ and abide in Him (Matthew 11:28; John 15:4). Do not allow the devil deceive you. Repent today and follow the Lord. No one regrets following the Lord in sincerity and truth.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, give me the grace to seek You in righteousness and humility. Amen

TOPIC: GOD IS FAITHFUL TO HIS PROMISES
READ: LUKE 1:57-66

57 Now Elizabeth’s full time came for her to be delivered, and she brought forth a son.
58 When her neighbors and relatives heard how the Lord had shown great mercy to her, they rejoiced with her.
59 So it was, on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him by the name of his father, Zacharias. 60 His mother answered and said, “No; he shall be called John.”
61 But they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.”
62 So they made signs to his father—what he would have him called.
63 And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, “His name is John.” So they all marveled.
64 Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, praising God.
65 Then fear came on all who dwelt around them; and all these sayings were discussed throughout all the hill country of Judea.
66 And all those who heard them kept them in their hearts, saying, “What kind of child will this be?” And the hand of the Lord was with him.

THE MESSAGE:

God will never hide His plan and purpose from those who follow and obey Him. Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist was a priest, a descendant of Aaron belonging to the priestly division of Abijah, according to David's order. Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth were both upright in the sight of God but they had no child (Luke 1:5-7). Zechariah had an encounter with God through an angel who revealed to him what God was going to do in his family - the promise of a male child to be named John the Baptist. At the right time, God fulfilled the promise He made and Elizabeth, despite her old age, brought forth a male child which announced joy to all and sundry (verses 57-58). The birth of John the Baptist was an evidence of God's faithfulness to His promises.... though the promise may tarry, wait for it; because it will surely be fulfilled (Habakkuk 2:3).

Beloved, God still answers prayers. If you trust God for breakthrough, miracle or divine intervention, do not give up. Your testimony will soon come. As God visited Zechariah and Elizabeth, He will visit you too and you will celebrate His goodness. Focus on God and trust Him to fulfil all His promises to you. The Lord will show you great mercy and people will share in your joy this year in Jesus' Name. Amen.

PRAYER: Lord, give me the grace to patiently wait for the fulfilment of all Your promises. Amen.

TOPIC: THE DAY OF THE LORD
READ: ZEPHANIAH 1:10-18

And there shall be on that day,” says the Lord,
“The sound of a mournful cry from the Fish Gate,
A wailing from the Second Quarter,
And a loud crashing from the hills.
11 Wail, you inhabitants of [a]Maktesh!
For all the merchant people are cut down;
All those who handle money are cut off.
12 “And it shall come to pass at that time
That I will search Jerusalem with lamps,
And punish the men
Who are settled[b] in complacency,
Who say in their heart,
‘The Lord will not do good,
Nor will He do evil.’
13 Therefore their goods shall become booty,
And their houses a desolation;
They shall build houses, but not inhabit them;
They shall plant vineyards, but not drink their wine.”
14 The great day of the Lord is near;
It is near and hastens quickly.
The noise of the day of the Lord is bitter;
There the mighty men shall cry out.
15 That day is a day of wrath,
A day of trouble and distress,
A day of devastation and desolation,
A day of darkness and gloominess,
A day of clouds and thick darkness,
16 A day of trumpet and alarm
Against the fortified cities
And against the high towers.
17 “I will bring distress upon men,
And they shall walk like blind men,
Because they have sinned against the Lord;
Their blood shall be poured out like dust,
And their flesh like refuse.”
18 Neither their silver nor their gold
Shall be able to deliver them
In the day of the Lord’s wrath;
But the whole land shall be devoured
By the fire of His jealousy,
For He will make speedy riddance
Of all those who dwell in the land.

THE MESSAGE:

Many prophets in the Bible revealed the events concerning the Lord which they also referred to as the Day of Judgment. Through Zephaniah the prophet, God promised that He would search through Jerusalem and destroy the dishonest merchants; those who thought they had power and authority would become powerless and defenseless in the day of the Lord. The judgment of God would come upon those who cheat others to become rich and powerful. It is obvious in the prophecy that there would be no hiding place in the Day of Judgment. Walled cities and highly protected camps and strong towers, shall fall. The warning given by God through Zephaniah was as strong and certain as the one given in the time of Noah before the flood (Genesy 6:1ff). God condemned the people of Judah for their overconfidence, believing that God cannot do such to His people.

Beloved, the day of the Lord is certain. God gives grace and hope to those who will turn to Him with a heart of humility and genuine repentance. Those who renounce their sinful acts and determine to walk with God in total obedience will surely escape the divine wrath. Accumulation of wealth by unjust means is an abomination in the sight of God and will attract eternal damnation on those who engage in it. As we look forward to the great day of the Lord, we must not take God for granted by ignoring His warnings. Be honest in your walk with Him and your relationship with men.

PRAYER: Merciful and gracious God, grant me the grace to be ready for Your coming Day!

TOPIC: THE END OF THE WICKED

[1] The word of the Lord which came to Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.
[2] “I will utterly consume everything from the face of the land, ”Says the Lord;
[3] “I will consume man and beast;I will consume the birds of the heavens,The fish of the sea,And the stumbling blocks along with the wicked.I will cut off man from the face of the land,”Says the Lord.
[4] “I will stretch out My hand against Judah,And against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.I will cut off every trace of Baal from this place,The names of the idolatrous priests with the pagan priests—
[5] Those who worship the host of heaven on the housetops;Those who worship and swear oaths by the Lord,But who also swear by Milcom;
[6] Those who have turned back from following the Lord,And have not sought the Lord, nor inquired of Him.”
[7] Be silent in the presence of the Lord God;For the day of the Lord is at hand,For the Lord has prepared a sacrifice;He has invited His guests.

THE MESSAGE:

Before the call of Zephaniah, a wicked king, Manasseh, had ruled in Judah for fifty-five years. Manasseh drove the kingdom into in a terrible and decayed spiritual state which was worse than the original Canaanites who were known for wickedness and immoral acts. The Lord raised Zephaniah the prophet to warn them as he revealed the judgment of God and the coming destruction of Judah and Jerusalem, for their wickedness. The people sold themselves to the devil and engaged in anti-God practices such as worship of Baal, worship of stars, and engaging in foreign religious practices, against the commandments of God.

Beloved, the biblical stories of the wickedness of people in the past and the consequences that followed, reminds every believer in Christ to be watchful. You must be aware and sensitive to the wickedness of the present day, especially the evil practices and occurrences around you. Every impure thought and extreme desire is evil (Galatians 5:19-21). You must not be part of the present day wickedness; do not take part in the present day evil. Flee all appearances of evil (I Thessalonians 5:22). You must stand against evil and wickedness and warn the sinner about the judgment of God on wickedness and sinful acts (Psalm 37:10). Stay away from anything that can lead you astray from God.

PRAYER: Lord, keep and uphold me with Your right hand of love; give me the grace to stay away from the present day wickedness in Jesus' Name, Amen.

TOPIC: THERE IS MORE TO LIFE
(Trinity 3 - Father's Day)

24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

THE MESSAGE:

In our text today, the Lord Jesus Christ exhorts His disciples not to worry about their basic needs such as food and clothing. He argues that if God provides for the birds of the air and clothes the grass of the field, He will certainly meet the needs of His children who live according to His purpose. Jesus' question, "Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?" (verse 25), highlights that there is more to life than pursuing ordinary necessities. This does not imply that Christians should be idle or lazy (1 Timothy 5:8; 2 Thessalonians 3:10; Romans 12:11). Rather, it emphasises that instead of being consumed by worldly concerns, Christians should prioritise seeking God's kingdom and righteousness, by living according to God's Word.

Beloved, as Christians, we are called to a higher purpose than merely pursuing food and shelter. Our primary concern should be how to honour God in our daily lives, not what we will eat or wear. God is aware of our basic needs and desires to sustain us. His purpose, however, is not for us to fight for these needs at the expense of our Christian integrity. Instead, He has designed us to seek first the things that pertain to His kingdom, living by every word that proceeds from His mouth. Worry can lead to distress, hopelessness, and a loss of faith in God's ability to provide. When we prioritise God's kingdom, we can trust that He will provide our needs.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to seek first Your kingdom as I trust in You to meet my daily needs.

TOPIC: CRUCIFIED TO THE WORLD

11 See with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand!
12 As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
13 For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by [a]whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.
16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.
17 From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.
18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

THE MESSAGE:

Today, we want to stress the importance of the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ as the only divine strategy for achieving victory over the flesh. In our text, Paul writes, "But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world" (verse 14). Paul understood that a life controlled by the flesh does not only show in moral decay but also in self-righteousness or boastful moral devotion (verses 19-21). Paul noted that becoming a new creation is made possible when one is in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). The death of Jesus Christ means that the flesh and his deeds have been crucified. Through Jesus' resurrection, a new life under the influence of the Holy Spirit, was made available. Therefore, anyone who embraces the cross of Christ has been set free to serve the living God.

Child of God, you do not need to struggle under the power of sin; your freedom is guaranteed in Christ. The influence of the flesh can only be overcome by your faith in Jesus Christ and the victory He has secured for you; it is a product of His finished work on the cross. No one can overcome the flesh by observing rules and regulations but through the grace that flows from the cross of Christ. Embracing the cross of Christ is the only way to gain victory over the sinful nature. As you determine to live for Christ, never depend on your strength.

PRAYER: Lord, I put my faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Amen.
