Why do we celebrate the rich more than the poor in some Churches?

When u say some churches, it's an understatement, the truth is it happens in most churches now.

You don't exist, if you are poor but the moment they start noticing you started cash, you will be well respected and treated Welland it doesn't stop there you become a cash cow. This i see in most orthodox churches especially here in Nigeria.


And when you have been milked, and don't have the money again, u will be automatically forgetton and pushed away like a piece of rubbish. Again you can not be allowed to take some sensitive offices or duties in orthodox churches if you are poor.

Some of this priests will literally drive past you, like you don't exist if you are poor, but will stop by the rich and have a good pleasantries.
At first I thought am the only person seeing this until someone else complained bitterly to me about the issue. This I see as marketing or call it business it's in most churches but more in the orthodox.

My concern is hence they knew this is spreading among them, they should preach against it and treat their parishioners as same.

*MESSAGE:*

At the gathering of about 120 disciples, Peter stood up and addressed those present concerning the fulfilment of the prophecy through David, concerning the betrayal of Jesus by Judas, a member of Jesus' ministry. Since Judas had died, there was need to replace him. Peter anchored his stand on Psalm 69: 25 and Psalm 10: 8, that another should take his office. He therefore expressed the need to get one of the men who had been with them while Jesus was with them up to the time of His resurrection, as a replacement for Judas. Joseph and Matthias were nominated to fill the vacancy. After they prayed and cast their votes, Matthias was elected and became one of the 12 apostles.

Here, we find an example of a free and fair election without rigging. Election rigging is common in some countries but that should not be allowed in the church or in Christendom. Although Joseph and Matthias were duly qualified for the vacant post, a free, fair, and transparent election was conducted under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This led to the emergence of Matthias. Do you support free, fair, and transparent elections or do you participate in rigging? Repent today!

After the Ascension of Jesus intoheaven, the eleven disciples returned from Mount Olivet to Jerusalem and stayed in the upper room. The names of the eleven disciples of Jesus are Peter, James, John, Andrew, Philip. Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. These eleven men were united in prayer and supplication with the women, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Jesus' brothers.

In obedience to the command of Jesus to the disciples not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the eleven disciples gathered and waited with the women and the brothers of Jesus at the upper room. Their main focus was to assemble in prayer until the Holy Spirit fell on them. It is interesting to note that Jesus' mother and His brothers were among those in that upper room. It is good to unite with fellow believers to pray for results since one can chase a thousand while two can chase ten thousand (Deut. 32: 30). Whatever happens, do not miss corporate prayers at home, church, fellowship, and school.

2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

THE MESSAGE:

In Matthew 4:1-11, we witness a profound moment where Jesus, fully God and fully man, faces intense temptation in the wilderness. After fasting for forty days and nights, He experiences real hunger and physical weakness, revealing His genuine humanity. This passage reminds us that Jesus understands our struggles intimately - He does not stand above our trials but walks through them with us. His hunger and vulnerability show that He was not immune to hardship, yet He remained steadfast, demonstrating that our human weaknesses do not disqualify us from overcoming temptation.

Jesus' victory over Satan's temptations is a powerful example for us today. He counters each of the devil's lies with Scripture, showing the importance of knowing God's Word and relying on it as our defense. His triumph encourages us to stand firm in faith, even when we feel weak or pressured to compromise. Just as Jesus overcame the widerness, we too can overcome the challenges and temptations in our lives through dependence on God's strength and truth. THE MESSAGE:

After the devil had suffered two defeats from Jesus, one would think that the devil should give up. But this was not the case. He took Jesus to the pinnacle of the temple in Jerusalem. Here, he wanted to show Jesus that he too could quote from the Scriptures. He requested Jesus to throw Himself down from that high point if He was the Son of God. In fact, he urged Him to do this by quoting Psalm 91:11-12 which says, "For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone." Jesus promptly replied the devil that "It has been said, you shall not tempt the Lord your God" (Deuteronomy 6:16). The devil had had enough and left in shame.

From our text, Jesus teaches us that no matter how long temptation lasts or how many times it occurs, believers need to stand firm on the Word of God, and resist. Jesus won decisively over the devil. May you also win your battles against the devil, and may you rely on the word of God in your heart whenever temptations come! As you resist the devil in your heart, he must flee after a while (1 Pet. 5:8-9a).

THE MESSAGE:

After suffering defeat in his first attempt to trap Jesus, the devil then took Him up to a high mountain, and showed Him the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. He then presented a proposal to give Jesus all the authority and glory of the kingdoms since they belonged to him. However, he also presented a condition that Jesus shouId fulfil in order to get the kingdoms. The condition required Jesus to bow down and worship him. Jesus resorted to the Word of God and told the devil to get behind Him since it is written that "You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve" (Deuteronomy 6:13;10:20)

Christians need to be mindful that the devil does not give up easily when defeated. Rather, he would employ another tactic to tempt the believer to sin. Jesus has shown us that using the word of God against the plans of the devil, will always work. How often do you study the word of God? THE MESSAGE:

Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, was led by the same Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil for forty days. At the end of the fast, Jesus was hungry. Then the devil approached Him for the first temptation. Pretending not to know the identity and personality of Jesus, the devil told Him, "If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." The target was to get Jesus to fall for his deception by trying to prove that He is the Son of God. However, Jesus bluntly referred the devil to the Bible and told him that "It is written, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God" (Deuteronomy .8:3).

Fasting is a spiritual exercise that prepares the Christian to tackle spiritual challenges. The devil tempted Jesus with what He needed most at that time, which was food. However, Jesus defeated him by using the Word of God to counteract his suggestions. If the devil tempted Jesus, he will surely tempt you. So be prepared by fasting, praying, and studying the word of God. You will need these when any temptation comes (2 Timothy 2:15).

THE MESSAGE:

Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day in Lent. In our text. Christians are told what they should avoid when fasting. First, they should not have a sad countenance or disfigure their faces to attract attention. A Christian who fasts, should appear as natural as possible such that people will not know that he/she is fasting. This is because God who sees in secret wvill reivard such a person openly. Again, Jesus warns against fasting to be seen by others. Fasting should be done as secretly and quietly as possible. A fasting that attracts human attention loses divine acceptance.

Christ also warns against accumulating earthly treasures but commands Christians to lay up their treasures in heaven where such treasures cannot be destroyed or stolen. Many people strive to be wealthy and acquire as much properties as possible on earth. Such people set their minds on earthly things. However, every serious Christian should lay up his treasures in heaven by supporting the work of God, engaging in evangelism, helping the less-privileged, etc. In so doing, you will build up your bank account in heaven. You can start today.

PRAYER: Lord, please help me to fast correctly and lay my treasures in Heaven. Amen.

THE MESSAGE:

The 6th of the Ten Commandments warns against murder. No wonder in today's text, David prays for deliverance from the guilt of bloodshed so that he could sing of God's righteousness. He asked God to open his lips, to enable him praise Him. He observed that God does not desire animal sacrifice or burnt offering, but rather the sacrifices of a broken and a contrite heart which He never despises. The Psalmist prays that God would do good to Zion and build the walls of Jerusalem so that the people would offer sacrifices of righteousness which will be pleasant to God.

Today, murder rates are increasing in many countries. Some commit murder to eliminate their enemies, steal money, obtain property or wealth, harvest human organs, or collect blood for occult activities. However, Christians must not engage in sins of blood guiltiness. Some cultures offer animal sacrifices to appease their gods, while some Christians present live animals in Churches to showv their love for God. Inasmuch as doing this is not wrong, God is more pleased with Christians who offer sacrifices of a broken and a contrite heart. Do you have a broken and a contrite heart? Ask God to grant you such a heart and you will be blessed.

PRAYER: Father; grant me a broken and contrite heart today in Jesus' Name. Amen.

THE MESSAGE:

David asks God to have mercy on him according to His loving-kindness, blot out his sins according to His tender mercies, wash him thoroughly from his iniquity, and cleanse him from his sins. He acknowledged that he had sinned before God, the blameless judge. He was aware that he was a sinner from birth and requested to be purged, made clean and washed, so that he would have joy and gladness. He asked God to grant him a new heart, renew a steadfast spirit in him, not ban him from His presence, and not remove His Holy Spirit from him. He prayed for a restoration of his joy of salvation, and for him to teach sinners God's ways.

How do you pray when you have been convicted of sin? You can either humble yourself and ask God to forgive you, with a repentant heart, or you can gloss over the sin and move on to other aspects of prayer like thanksgiving, adoration, and supplication. Confession of your sin from a repentant heart is very critical to receiving answered prayers (1 John 1:8-10). Christ taught His disciples to confess their sins while praying (Matthew 6:12). Examine your life today, repent of any sin and ask for God's mercies.

TOPIC: SEARCHING FOR SOULS
READ: MARK 2: 13-17 (NKJV)

13 Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them.
14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.
16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

THE MESSAGE:

After teaching the multitude by the Sea of Galilee, Jesus moved on and saw Levi (also called Matthew), at the tax office. On invitation from Jesus to follow Him, Matthew obeyed. At a dinner in Matthew's house, Jesus with His disciples, sat and ate with many tax collectors and sinners. The scribes and Pharisees demanded to know why Jesus ate and drank with tax collectors and sinners, and in His response, Jesus informed them that only a sick person needs a physician and that He came solely to call sinners to repentance.

Jesus came to seek and to save lost souls (Luke 19:10). The quest to search for souls made Jesus to go to the sea side, to the tax office, and to a dinner with sinners. His goal was to win souls for the kingdom of God. To win sinners for Christ, Christians need to go out for evangelism, to where the sinners are. Do you make it a point of duty to go out and preach the Gospel? This will be hard, except you are born again and filled with the Holy Spirit. Are you a Jesus' follower or are you an online follower? If you are a follower of Jesus, then preach the word (2 Timothy 4:2).

PRAYER: Dear Lord, please grant me grace to search and preach to souls.

The Psalmist recalls that God remembered him. David exclaimed in Psalm 40: 2, “He has brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.” After God reversed Hannah's state of barrenness, she praised God and said, "He raises the poor from the dust, and lifts the beggar from the ash heap, to set them among princes, and make them inherit the throne of glory...." (1 Sam. 2: . Isaiah 49: 15-16 says, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son ofher womb? Surely, they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palm of my hands, your walls are continually before Me."

In the same way, God remembers, rescues, and feeds us. For these many benefits and more, the Psalmist invites us in verse 26 to give Him thanks. Do you believe that God has inscribed your name on His palms? If so, let that consciousness be on your heart and mind always. When you pass through any "miry clay" or any "valley of the shadow of death", remember that God knows you by name. Then call upon Him and He will answer you.

*MESSAGE:*

God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt with a strong hand and an outstretched arm. Verse 10 of our text details the killing of the firstborn sons (Exod. 12: 29) and this finally forced Pharaoh to release Israel unconditionally. On their way, the mighty Red Sea stood as a great barrier. To add to this, the Egyptian army followed them in hot pursuit, causing panic and fear. When they cried to the Lord, He divided the Red Sea and they passed through on dry ground (Exod. 14: 8-10, 22). Unfortunately, for the pursuing army, the waters of the Red Sea returned and drowned them all (Exod. 14: 26-28). After passing through the Red Sea, the Israelites travelled through the wilderness for 40 years, and were confronted by very powerful enemies whom God enabled them to defeat and capture their lands.

At a time like this, many people have many challenges. Some people look unto man, money, and idols, for solution. However, in most cases, their hopes fail. However, Christians have the strong hand of God is to see them through life's challenges. Indeed, God will carry you on eagle's wings and give you final victory, if you put your trust in Him. Do you trust God?

22 When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”[a]),
24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”[b]
25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.
26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,
28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you may now dismiss[c] your servant in peace.

THE MESSAGE:

Jesus was presented in the temple as a child. As required by Law, Joseph and Mary brought an offering for the associated sacrifices (Leviticus 12:1-7). Many may have witnessed the presentation, but Simeon was singled out because “he was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him." Simeon had received a revelation that he would not die until he had seen the expected Messiah. The Spirit also directed him to the temple at the presentation time. His declaration in verses 29-32, ("The Nunc Dimittis", refers to the mission of Jesus to bring light and salvation to all people. In verse 34, he prophesied that Jesus was destined for the fall and rising of many people, and for a sign which would be spoken against.

For Mary, Simeon predicted that a sword would pierce through her soul, probably a reference to the sacrificial suffering and crucifixion of Jesus (John 19:25). May we learn to present our children to the Lord at an early age, and create an enabling environment for them to know the Lord (see 2 Timothy 1:5). May we also emulate the devout character of Simeon, so that we can have a positive impact on the lives of people around us!

*MESSAGE*

The Beatitudes are the first part of a series of teachings by Jesus found in Matthew 5: 1-7: 29. They are 8 key attitudes expected of every true disciple of Christ. The associated rewards are also given. For example, the attitude of being humble is essential to having the kingdom of God, while penitence is rewarded by divine comfort. Verse 5 and Psalm 37:1 indicate that the meek shall inherit the earth. Further, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness shall be filled, while the merciful shall be shown mercy. Verses 8-9 declare that the pure in heart shall see God, and the peacemaker shall be called a child of God. Verses 10-12 present the blessings for those who are persecuted or falsely accused for the sake of Christ. Rather than give in or deny Christ, such a person should be exceedingly glad because of the expected heavenly reward.

Let each of these beatitudes serve as a measure of your relationship with God and your preparedness to see and live with Him forever. Do you hunger and thirst for righteousness? Are you pure in heart? Do you fall short of God's expectations going by these measures, pray and ask God to help you.

THE MESSAGE:

The Psalmist likened his trust in God as that of a child who is separated from discontentment, and waiting and hoping in God. How did he come to this point? He was delivered from the pride of the heart and arrogance of the eyes! He confessed that he did not jump into big things or those that required great insight. No wonder he had to accept his calmed spirit as a child separated from suckling his mother's breasts. He ended the psalm by advising Israel to hope in the Lord always.

Before a child is weaned or separated from his mother's breasts, such a child helplessly depends on his/her mother for everything and when not attended to, cries. However, a child cannot stop the mother from weaning him/her! And when this happens, such a child no longer cries, worries and longs to be nursed, but is content because he/she is still with his/her mother. Much more should we be contented and satisfied knowing that God is our Shield and Shepherd. He is also our refuge and strength, and a very present help in trouble. Do you have a calm heart? If not, you need to call on the name of the Lord to grant you a calm spirit. He is a faithful God and will do it.

PRAYER: Father; please still every noise in my heart and help me to trust in You.
