Atiku to supporters: There will be threats and insults, ignore them… speak facts only

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on his supporters to speak facts only, when campaigning for him.

The former vice-president took to Twitter on Sunday morning to say insults, threats and falsehoods will come, but his supporters must show respect, even when they disagree.

“For everyone who supports me, I ask you to conduct yourself respectfully, even with people who do not agree with you,” Atiku said.

“There will be insults, falsehoods, threats and innuendo. Ignore them and stay focused on the task of rebuilding Nigeria.”

Atiku, who has been accused of being corrupt from time to time, asked his supporters to stay focused getting Nigeria to work again.

“Instead of insults, speak with facts. Let us all work together to get Nigeria working again,” Atiku added.

Atiku promises to fight corruption differently, explaining that he intends to fight the menace by preventing it from happening in the first place.

China opens world’s longest sea bridge

China will open the world’s longest sea bridge to traffic from next week. The 55-kilometre-long bridge linking Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao took six years of preparations and eight years to build.

Construction began on 15 December 2009 and is expected to slash travel time from Hongkong to mainland China from three hours to 30 minutes.

Major work on the bridge consisted of a 22.9-kilometre-long main bridge, a 6.7-kilometre-long tunnel and an artificial island off the bridge, which is considered the most technically demanding part of the whole construction.

Engineers and constructors have tested the coordination of the bridge’s various systems and equipment and the lighting fitted, according to Zhang Jinwen, project director with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Authority.

In the past 14 years, the regional economy and transport network have undergone tremendous changes, leading authorities to re-assess the utilization rate of the bridge, said Su Yi, assistant to the chief of the HZMB Authority.


But Su dismissed worries that the bridge would not have enough traffic, saying, “we have full confidence for the future.”

“We have a whole toolbox of policies at our disposal,” Su said. “It is like playing cards. We can adjust our moves accordingly.”

The bridge will slash travel time between Hong Kong and Zhuhai from three hours to just 30 minutes, further integrating cities in the Pearl River Delta.

Report by a section of the media that the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, had started opening up on allegations of corruption made against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been described as false, misleading and a feeble attempt by the anti-graft agency to sustain its lies and campaign of calumny against the former governor.

Fayose’s Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, who reacted in a statement issued on Friday, said “no amount of sponsored media reports will change the fact that as at today, the EFCC does not have any evidence to prosecute the former governor in court.”

Olayinka insisted that his boss will only defend himself in the law court, saying that EFCC had demonstrated that it was out to persecute the former governor ostensibly because of his criticism of the President Muhammadu Buhari led APC government.

He said; “it is a fact that Fayose wrote to the EFCC on September 10, 2018 notifying the commission of his decision to make himself available on October 16, 2018. The EFCC replied by asking him not to wait till October 16 and that he should come on September 20, 2018.

“Therefore, isn’t it funny that the same EFCC that was desperate to have Fayose report on September 20 is still keeping him in detention, four days after he willingly submitted himself? Isn’t it now clear to all discerning minds that EFCC is only acting as an agent of persecution against perceived enemies of the APC and it is helping to keep Fayose out of circulation as desired by the powers that be?”

While urging members of the public to disregard any report of Fayose saying anything other than demanding that he be charged to court, Olayinka said; “Very soon, the public will still be fed with stories like; Fayose writes confessional statement and eats it, he weeps in detention, begs to return loots among other familiar lies of the EFCC.

“Nigerians should just ignore the EFCC’s sponsored lies and continue to ask why the anti-graft agency has failed to charge Fayose to court despite the overwhelming evidence it claimed to have.

“Most importantly, Nigerians should be rest assured that Fayose will not be intimidated even if he is detained for as long as the EFCC will be ready to take him to court. He won’t say more than what he has said which is denying the EFCC allegations and that the anti-graft agency
is more of a persecutor than prosecutor.”

Secondly, the FBI interviewed Atiku's wife Ms Douglas and she admitted she doesn't know the sources of the money but they were cash transfers that belongs to her husband through a proxy lawyer, english isn't that difficult.

It simply means that Atiku was collecting bribes from different sources and routing it through the accounts, some of the accounts are AUN's account, infact the head of AUN told the committee just like Douglas that there are inflows that belong to Atiku but they barely know the source. That is Atiku's money laundering cases alone amount to over $40m

Jefferson told an investor, Lori Mody, who was wearing a wire, that he would need to give Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar $500,000 “as a motivating factor” to make sure they obtained contracts for iGate and Mody’s company in Nigeria.

William Jefferson, the New Orleans, US congressman convicted in 2009 on bribery charges after he was famously caught with $90,000 cash stashed in his freezer, is now a free man.


A federal judge had reduced his 13-year sentence to the time he has already served: five years and five months.

The reduced sentence came on the joint recommendation of prosecutors and defense attorneys after a Supreme Court ruling in an unrelated case made it more difficult to convict public officials on bribery charges. Jefferson was freed from prison in October, when Judge T.S. Ellis III tossed out seven of his 10 conviction counts.

Jefferson, 70, did not address the court during the hearing but told reporters afterward he was grateful to his attorneys, family and friends for their support and that he wanted to be active in the community.

Patriarch of a family that once wielded considerable political influence in New Orleans, he exchanged hugs with relatives and friends who congratulated him on his freedom.

As for his plans, Jefferson said, “I’m going to go back home and get a Christmas dinner.”

A Democrat, Jefferson spent 18 years in the House of Representatives. The 2005 raid of his Washington home, which turned up cash stuffed in frozen food boxes, made him fodder for late-night comedians.

At his 2009 trial, Jefferson argued he was acting as a private business consultant in brokering the deals and that his actions did not constitute bribery under federal law. The $90,000 was actually part of a government sting initiated after a one-time business associate of Jefferson told the FBI she thought she was getting scammed.

Jefferson’s investigation was sparked by an allegation began in mid-2005 by an investor who claimed that $400,000 in bribes were paid through a company maintained in the name of Jefferson’s spouse and children.

The money was traced to a tech company named iGate, Inc., of Louisville, Kentucky, USA and in return, it is alleged, Jefferson would persuade the U.S. Army to test iGate’s broadband two-way technology and other iGate products; use his efforts to influence high-ranking officials in Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon; and meet with personnel of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, in order to facilitate potential financing for iGate business deals in those countries.

On 30 July 2005, Jefferson was videotaped by the FBI receiving $100,000 worth of $100 bills in a leather briefcase at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Arlington, Virginia.

The FBI videotaped Jefferson receiving a stock certificate from Mody for a company set up in Nigeria to promote iGate’s technology. Jefferson predicted the deal would generate $200 million annually after five years.

Jefferson told Mody that he wanted a similar financial stake in the business in Ghana.

Jefferson sought $10 million in financing from Mody to take over iGate and install “confidants” on the new board. In two payments, Mody wired $89,225 to the ANJ Group LLC, a company controlled by Jefferson’s family.

Jefferson lent $4,800 of the money Mody gave him to an unnamed congressional aide. Another $4,900 was given back to the FBI by one of Jefferson’s attorneys.

The FBI claims it has uncovered “at least seven other schemes in which Jefferson sought things of value in return for his official acts”.

On June 4, 2007 Jefferson was indicted on 16 charges of corruption by a federal grand jury.
