PoliticsBuhari Media Org Wants Kukah Off National PEACE Committee by engineerboat(op): 8:07am On Oct 17, 2018
.
The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has asked the Catholic Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese Matthew Kukah to withdraw from the National Peace Committee led by former Head of State General Abdulsalam Abubakar.

BMO said in a statement by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke in Abuja that his withdrawal was necessary for allegedly displaying support for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, despite his claims that it was not a political gathering he intended.

The group said the Abdulsalam Abubakar-led committee should be seen to be non-partisan because of the role it was meant to play in the run up to the 2015 election.

“We are surprised, like many Nigerians, to see Bishop Kukah in the company of the opposition candidate at a reconciliation meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and later on claiming to be the strategic mind behind the reconciliation which we believe was targeted towards bringing the two parties together to fight the President Buhari administration.

“This is not expected of a clergyman who is seen in some quarters as the alternate head of the National Peace Committee. He has shown his bias and as such cannot be trusted to be non-partisan,” the group said in the statement issued yesterday.

BMO dismissed claims by the Catholic Bishop that he was not aware of the political nature of the gathering as tales that no one will believe.

“The clergy man was the key figure behind the reconciliation and did this knowing that Atiku was a PDP Presidential aspirant. And if it is true that Bishop Kukah is insisting that he was only exercising his right to free movement, we are also demanding that having shown his hand, he has no reason to sit on a panel that is meant to be non-partisan,” the statement also read

It voiced its support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s admonition that religious leaders should abstain from partisan politics.

I ll stay and fight this battle, says Fayose

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged has alleged that the Presidency has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to detain indefinitely, the outgoing governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose.

In a statement issued Monday by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP said information at its disposal and in the social media, indicated that the Presidency has put the EFCC on the alert to arrest the governor at midnight today and detain him indefinitely.

The party said the alleged directive by the Presidency was not unconnected with alleged plot to use the EFCC and other security agencies to incarcerate the governor for his persistent criticism of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government.

The statement said, “This uncompromising stand of the outgoing governor against the present administration was the reason Ekiti State was invaded and taken by force during the last governorship election.

“By 12 midnight, the governor’s residence is expected to be surrounded by armed men of the EFCC under the pretense that they had information of his plot to escape. This is to achieve their plan to humiliate the governor and portray him in bad light to the public by dramatising his arrest.

“Nigerians can recall that it was the governor who offered to submit himself to the EFCC despite the commission’s clear display of bias and partisanship as demonstrated in its various actions, especially its tweets and putting the governor on security watch-list.

“The EFCC even unprofessionally showed its bias in deriding the governor, making light of a very serious matter by mocking him and asking him to come before his tenure elapsed, which the governor declined in line with his constitutional immunity.

“It is now beyond dispute that Governor Fayose is not a scoundrel running away from justice. Whatever the EFCC, APC, and the Presidency’s spin-doctors may say, it is also clear to everyone that Fayose is not a coward; neither is he afraid of the EFCC”

The PDP said Fayose is prepared and ready to defend himself in the court of law, adding that neither the Presidency nor EFCC is a court of law.

The party said having claimed to have dusted up Fayose’s files; the EFCC should be ready to take him to court once he presents himself at the agency’s office on Tuesday.

“Governor Fayose has offered to walk to the EFCC office by himself and nothing must happen to him. The PDP condemns this resort to fascism by the APC government. The whole world should be at alert to see another demonstration of crude disrespect for the rule of law and rights of Nigerians”.

Meanwhile, Fayose has reiterated his readiness to honour the EFCC’s invitation today, adding that he would “stay and fight this battle”.

Fayose, spoke in Abuja Monday night at a send-forth ceremony organised in his honour by the PDP Governors Forum.

According to him, he would continue to criticise the Buhari administration as his tenure ended midnight.

Commenting on the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration, Fayose said, “They got power by deceit. But they gave no solution. Tell them at the Villa; my name is Ayodele Fayose, Peter the Rock. By the Grace of God, I will be at the EFCC tomorrow (today) by 1pm. I am not a coward.

“Let it be said to them that today is their own. Tomorrow is our own. I will not run away, they will rather run away. They took me to Court 13 years ago, I won after 8 years.

“They harassed my family and I got judgment three times against them. This time will not be an exception. Those who wait for me will wait in vain. EFCC is no court”.

Present at the send-forth ceremony were Governors Udom Emmanuel (A/Ibom); Nyesom Wike (Rivers); Darius Ishaku (Taraba); Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa); Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta); Dave Umahi (Ebonyi); Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto); and the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus.

Presidency orders EFCC to detain Fayose indefinitely, PDP alleges

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the Presidency has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to incarcerate, indefinitely, the outgoing governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose.

In a statement issued today in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary, of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, said information at the party’s disposal and all over the social media indicate that the Presidency has put the commission on alert to arrest the governor at midnight today and detain him indefinitely.

The alleged directive by the Presidency is not unconnected with the plot to use the EFCC and other security agencies to incarcerate the governor owing to his persistent criticism of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government.

This uncompromising stands of the outgoing governor against the present administration was the reason Ekiti State was invaded and taken by force during the last governorship election.

By 12 midnight, the governor’s residence is expected to be surrounded by armed men of the EFCC under the pretense that they had information of his plot to escape. This is to achieve their plan to humiliate the governor and portray him in bad light to the public by dramatising his arrest.

Nigerians can recall that it was the governor who offered to submit himself to the EFCC despite the commission’s clear display of bias and partisanship as demonstrated in its various actions, especially its tweets and putting the governor on security watch-list.

The EFCC even unprofessionally showed its bias in deriding the governor, making light of a very serious matter by mocking him and asking him to come before his tenure elapsed, which the governor declined in line with the constitutional immunity.

It is now beyond dispute that Governor Fayose is not a scoundrel running away from justice. Whatever the EFCC, APC, and the Presidency’s spin-doctors may say, it is also clear to everyone that Fayose is not a coward; neither is he afraid of the EFCC.

Fayose is prepared and ready to defend himself in the court of law. Neither the Presidency nor EFCC is a court of law. Since the EFCC said it had dusted up Fayose’s files, it should be ready to take him to court once he presents him at the agency’s office on Tuesday.

Governor Fayose has offered to walk to the EFCC office by himself and nothing must happen to him tonight. The PDP condemns this resort to fascism by the APC government, saying the whole world should be at alert to see another demonstration of crude disrespect for the rule of law and rights of Nigerians.

In the only video published so far, the governor appeared to have received $230,000. All the cash was hastily stashed in his “babanriga,” a native attire common amongst men of northern Nigerian origin.

Daily Nigerian said the $230,000 was part of a series of cash advancement to the governor in a total bribery deal of $5 million.

The published version was uploaded without audio, apparently to conceal the identify of the contractors from the public.

While Mr Ganduje would readily know those with whom he carried out the exposed deal, the contractors believed their safety would be better guaranteed if their personal identities that could otherwise be obtained from their voices in the video are stripped off.

PREMIUM TIMES saw the version of the clip with audio on Sunday evening.

“I think you should collect this money before anyone walks in,” one of the contractors could be heard telling the governor. “I think you should put it on your body to conceal it with your babanriga.”

A brief laughter then erupted amongst them. The video was reportedly shot in one of the living rooms at the governor’s official residence in Kano, the state capital.

“MD will soon be back from Istanbul on Friday evening to give us the other allocations,” the contractor added after telling the governor he had concealed a total of $230,000 in his babanriga for the day’s transaction.

The governor and the contractors also discussed carrying state lawmakers along in the deal, especially on how cash and stalls would be shared to them in the deal for the construction of a market.

The governor is said to have received up to N750 million (about 25 percent) in a deal of over N3 billion with a single contractor.
PoliticsUPDATED: Kano Governor Ganduje Caught On Video Receiving Dollars From Suspected by engineerboat(op):
UPDATED: Kano Governor Ganduje caught on video receiving dollars from suspected contractors

scandalous video has been published appearing to show Governor Umar Ganduje pocketing a vast wards of American dollars in what was said to be bribe payments from public works contractors.

The Kano State governor could be seen collecting the dollars before rolling them into his white dress, “babanriga,” in one of a series of questionable deals allegeldly struck over a span of several months.

The first set of at least 15 clips in possession of online-based Daily Nigerian was published on Sunday afternoon by the platform.

The two minutes video was recorded in 2017 in what Daily Nigerian described as a sting operation aimed at beaming a spotlight on the governor’s alleged penchant for contract racketeering.

The governor has debunked the video as “cloned” and threatened a sweeping lawsuit against its publisher.

But PREMIUM TIMES’ graphics experts who examined the video corroborated the position of Daily Nigerian, which earlier said its internal and independent graphics analysts have authenticated the clips.

In the only video published so far, the governor appeared to have received $230,000. All the cash was hastily stashed in his “babanriga,” a native attire common amongst men of northern Nigerian origin.

Mr Ganduje has denied any wrongdoing.

Daily Nigerian said it embarked on the reporting after receiving a slew of complaints from contractors who said the governor regularly engaged in shakedowns before awarding public projects.

Mr Ganduje strongly denied being the one in the video, calling the publisher a blackmailer and ordering the state attorney-general to commence criminal investigation and possible prosecution.

Jafaar Jafaar, an Abuja-based journalist and publisher of Daily Nigerian, told PREMIUM TIMES he has decided to take cover with his family following relentless threats to their safety.

Foremost rights group, Amnesty International, and the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists have both expressed grim worries about Mr Jafaar’s safety, calling on both the Kano State governor and the Nigerian government to ensure neither the journalist nor his family faced any debilitating backlash as a result of his journalism.

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a thorough investigation after being shown the video by law enforcement authorities, Daily Nigerian reported.

The presidency is yet to make an official statement on the video. However, even if found culpable after investigation by anti-corruption agencies, Mr Ganduje, as governor, enjoys constitutional immunity from prosecution.

Mr Ganduje, 68, was elected governor as part of the wave that swept the then-opposition All Progressives Congress into power.

Like other APC politicians, in a mantra spearheaded by Mr Buhari, the Kano governor often lays claim to own frugal nature and incorruptibility.

Mr Ganduje’s video comes about five years after a video of a federal lawmaker from Kano was also made.

Farouk Lawan was leading a House of Representatives panel investigating illicit fuel subsidiary payments in 2012 when he was said to have received about $500,000 dollars in bribes from an oil magnate.

Mr Lawan, widely seen as a rising political star at the time, was seen receiving the cash from businessman Femi Otedola in the manner of Mr Ganduje.

Unlike Mr Ganduje, Mr Lawan acknowledged authenticity of the video, but said he was trying to use it to bait Mr Otedola and that federal authorities were informed beforehand.

Mr Otedola denied the claim, saying he was the one who set up the sting operation to expose Mr Lawan and his committee members who were demanding bribes from him even though his oil firm was not involved in any wrongdoing.

Mr Lawan, who was first elected to the federal parliament in 1999, did not return in 2015, and the case is currently proceeding in court.

Asset Declaration: Charges Laughable and Malicious- Ekweremadu

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, says his attention has been drawn to an attempt by the Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP), Mr. Ofem Obono-Obla, to smear his name in midst of the current political activities.

Senator Ekweremadu described the suit filed against him by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on behalf of the SPIP over his refusal to declare his assets to the Panel, contrary to the Constitution, as laughable and malicious.

He said: “Let me re-affirm to Nigerians and my supporters that I have no assets declaration case to answer. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria requires pubic office holders to declare their assets every four years, a requirement which I fulfilled. The Panel requested and obtained copies of my Assets Declaration Form from the Code of Conduct Bureau where everything is stated in black and white.

“For emphasis, all my assets were fully and comprehensively declared to the Code of Conduct Bureau.

“What is at issue here is that the SPIP had forwarded fresh assets declaration forms to me to fill contrary to the position of the 1999 Constitution, a demand I refused to oblige because it is clearly unconstitutional. It is this refusal to disobey the Constitution that I am now being charged for.

“I am aware that the Chairman of that Panel wrote the same letter to some serving Honourable Judges of the Federal High Court, who also declined to fill them.

“I am also aware that the affected Judges petitioned the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mallam Abubakar Malami, who immediately withdrew the provocative letters and fresh asset declaration forms with apologies.

“I am further aware that the Office of the AGF had also intervened in a similar case involving the Obla Panel at the Federal High Court, Lagos and I believe all these culminated in Obono-Obla’s suspension in November 2017 before his recall.

“It is, therefore, left to Nigerians to see the politics of the so-called charges in my case. The Office of the AGF should not allow itself to be used in filing malevolent and unconstitutional charges that destroy our democracy and make mockery of our judicial system.

“I expect the Attorney-General to channel his energy to prosecuting Obono-Obla Panel over his established case of forgery of his Senior School Certificate result instead of this politically-motivated prosecution and smear campaign.

“My position is that the Public Property Special Provisions Act, CAP R4 LFN, 2004, otherwise known as Decree No 3, 1984, which Obono-Obla has relied on to charge public officials to court had become obsolete and power to investigated non-asset declaration vested in the Code of Conduct Bureau by the 1999 Constitution. Only the Code of Conduct Bureau can receive asset declaration forms from public officers.
“It is obvious that this is part of the desperate and panic measures to cripple the opposition ahead of the 2019 general elections. Every opposition candidate and leader should, therefore, be ready for such smear campaigns and onslaughts, but rest assured, however, that they would ultimately triumph where their hands are clean.

“I insist that my hands are clean. Anybody, who knows any undeclared assets of mine, should feel free to avail the public of such information.

“Nigerians and the international community should, therefore, disregard this latest campaign of calumny and witch-hunt”.
