Police conflicting statements on Leah Sharibu’s release embarrassing – Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described the conflicting statements from the Police on the return of the last Dapchi schoolgirl; Leah Sharibu as another clear indication that “under this President Muhammadu Buhari led government, confusion now reigns supreme.”

Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, quoted Governor Fayose as saying in a statement issued on Sunday, that it was embarrassing that the IGP could come on national television to deceive Nigerians by giving information that he was not sure of, adding that; “Nigerians can now see why it is advisable to check their calendar when President Buhari and his men say what the date is.”

The governor said; “If the IGP does not have correct information on activities of the Boko Haram insurgents at his fingertips, it goes to show the level of confusion that has taken over this their government and one can appreciate the position expressed by former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. T. Y. Danjuma that Nigerians should take total responsibility for the security of their own lives and properties because as it is, a government that is confused even at the level of its security agencies cannot protect its citizens.”

He described the recant of the IGP statement by the Nigeria Police Force as highly embarrassing, saying; “What the IGP said was unambiguous. He said on Channels Television loud and clear that he was scheduled to travel to Dapchi but shelved the trip so as not to jeopardize the release of Leah Sharibu.

“So, where is the misunderstanding and misrepresentation of what the IGP said? How can Dapchi residents’ anxious wait for the safe return of the already released girls be the reason for the IGP to say that he learnt the remaining girl will be released on Saturday? He said the IGP categorical statement on Saturday, that Leah Sharibu was going to be released and the recant the following day was a further vindication of the United States government’s that animosity between Nigeria’s security agencies and their unwillingness to share intelligence were hampering effort at effectively combating the Boko Haram insurgency.

PDP To Lai: APC Has Come to Its Wits End

Our attention has been drawn to a press statement by the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, wherein he demanded that the certificate of registration issued to the PDP by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be withdrawn because the PDP lost in an election and according to him, does not know how to function as an opposition party.

We want to alert all Nigerians of a clandestine plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government to strangulate the main opposition party and plot the way for the self-succession plan of their candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Our party has been following all the schemes and shenanigans of the APC as 2019 general elections draw nearer.

The main plank of the plot is to ensure that President Buhari runs as a sole candidate in 2019. To achieve this grand plan, they must work to exterminate all known and perceived political opposition platforms in our country.

Is it not strange that a party who, in its almost five years of existence, cannot constitute a Board of Trustees (BoT) in line with the provisions of its own constitution will be asking INEC to withdraw the certificate of a party whose all organs are intact and effectively functioning?

Is it not also laughable that a party, who cannot hold even a non-elective convention, will be calling for the withdrawal of PDP’s certificate?

It is imperative to tell Alhaji Lai Mohammed and his cohorts in the APC that any masquerade that dances first will eventually have to watch the dance steps of others from the stand.

It is clear now that the APC and its Federal Government have come to their wits end. All they need to do now is to sit by and watch Nigerians collectively return the PDP to powers and by so doing restore the nation to the path of unity, national cohesion and economic prosperity come 2019.

PARIS, MARCH 24, 2018: (DGW) As many Nigerians continue to react to the Dapch girls'
kidnap drama, a certain Nigerian Christian soldier, Sergeant David Bako from the Middle
Belt, Plateau State to be precise has revealed how the Dapchi girls kidnap drama was
plotted and executed.

He said he found it absolutely necessary to make the confession considering the criminal
killings across the country which he likened to ethnic cleansing.

In an email sent to our newsroom here in Paris, Sergeant David Bako said the plot was
planned and rehearsed for two weeks by Buhari's loyalists in the army of which he was
one.

He said the desperation by Buhari to rule Nigeria for another four years drove him on to
employ all means to make sure he remains in power.

President Buhari, he said, will be no pushover in 2019 because he has perfected plans to
remain in the Villa beyond 2019.
Continuing the story, he said, they were given N80 million to execute the plot to restore the
peoples' waning confidence in the Buhari government as Boko Haram stepped up attacks recently which was a complete embarrassment to the Buhari government after claiming to have defeated the Islamist sect.

He said the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks and killings in the northeast drove the
government to find all means possible to regain the peoples' confidence seeing that 2019 election is as good as lost.

Buhari, he said, does not want to leave the Villa under any guise in 2019. In the email
below he narrated how the plot was planned and executed.

He wrote: " I feel constrained to make this confession and as I make this stunning
confession, I am no longer in Nigeria because I have to unavoidably desert the Nigerian
Army to save my life and that of my family from a possible summary execution by Buhari's secret agents.

Barnawi faction of Boko Haram knows nothing about the abduction of Dapchi girls. We were paid N80 million to carry out the abduction which we planned and rehearsed for two weeks to make it look real. 16 of us, strong Buhari's loyalists took part in the plot and were given N80 million and some trucks with which to carry out the operation.

On February 19, 2017, after we had received the money, we were told to make it a top secret and further told we would be handsomely rewarded if the plan pays off.

The plan, according to our unit commander, is to make Nigerians regain their confidence in the Buhari government, demobilize the PDP which we all dislike with a passion and the Obasanjo coalition which the Villa saw as an emerging threat if something is not urgently done.

Obasanjo, our commander told us will succeed in dislodging Buhari from the Villa in 2019 if we do not contrive a means to make Nigerians believe more in Buhari's leadership.
The money we got was not paid into our accounts but was brought by car from Abuja
totaling N80 million naira which was shared amongst us with trucks to carry out the
operation.

On that night the soldiers stationed in the neighbourhood were deployed to other locations to enable us carry out the operation hitch-free which we did. The Boko Haram flag you saw us carrying was designed by us and had ourselves wrapped up like the insurgents.
There was no such thing like kidnapping by the Barnawi faction of the Boko Haram.

We drove into the school compound in a commando style, broke through the school gate while the night guards numbering three or more ran for their dear lives as they heard our gunshots and chanting Islamic war songs amid Western education is a sin'.

We drove straight into the school dormitory and ordered the girls to get onto the trucks some of whom slept naked because of the scorching heat. Although we had been given warning by our commander not to molest or rough handle the girls as such action would not be tolerated under any guise.

We drove them to an undisclosed location which was unknown to any of us because our
unit commander led the way until we arrived in where they all were carefully kept.

The claim that five of them lost their ives is of course not true as we did not kill or even
shoot any of them following the strict orders and instructions that they should be treated
gently, kept safe and unharmed.

While where they were kept we were told to preach to them, make ourselves look like
terrorists to enable them to believe, recount and narrate what they saw which would make
people believe the abduction story.

We were not allowed to go with our phones to the location where the girls were kept,
therefore we could not take photographs of the girls and the location. Was there any
statement released on the abduction by the Barnawi group? Was there any video footage by the Barnawi group like that of the Chibok girls? That was to make it a top secret which the government does not want to play it.
On the day we were asked to return the girls, police and our colleagues were deployed out of the route to avoid any possible confrontation - I mean with those who knew nothing about the plot.

While leaving, we told them to embrace Islam and gave them clothing because some of
them were taken away naked with wrappers they slept with when we abducted them from
the dormitory.

Out of the money that was shared, I got N3 million and on second thoughts I decided to
return the money to my unit commander to keep it for me as I have no ready use for the
money. I told him I would be traveling to Jos to see my mother who was very ill and that on
return I will collect it back from him and take it to my bank.

Unsuspicious of my motives, he collected it from me and gave me five days to report to my duty post.

With the visa I had in my passport I had to go as far as Port Harcourt where no one knows
me and flew out of the country while asking God forgiveness for the partI played in the
whole operation.

What actually made me repent of the evil is the plot on the ground to carry out ethnic
cleansing in Nigeria and as I write this piece, I make bold to say here that every Nigerian
community in the southern part of the country has been infiltrated by armed nilitias
imported from Niger, Mali, and Chad by the Buhari government to unleash terror on
Nigerians if they by a twist of fate resist the ongoing ethnic cleansing.

My colleagues have often boasted that the Quran, according to the late Sardauna, must be read in the sea and that is what this government is doing. The Dapchi girls purported abduction is to make Nigerians believe the Buhari government is working and it would, therefore, make no sense to vote him out.

The remaining four years is to make him execute the hidden agenda to carry out ethnic
cleansing. The plot on the ground is to have every dissenting voice executed that would be a threat to the successful execution of the agenda. That is the reason why they first came up with the cattle colonies which the southern leaders rejected.

As I write this piece, my heart bleeds for Nigeria and I regret the part I played in the
abduction of the Dapchi girls to further swindle Nigerians into believing Buhari is the best person to lead the country in the coming years.

Please Nigerians, I beg for forgiveness and ask you to help me with prayers to God for forgiveness in the role I played. Share this story and let it go round to save Nigerians the grave danger of allowing President Buhari to
continue beyond 2018 in the Villa. I will return to Nigeria when Buhari leaves power, God
willing.

Nigeria's ERGP priotises physical capital over human capital — Bill Gates

The co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, says the execution priorities of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, launched by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017, do not reflect Nigerians' needs.
Gates spoke at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja Thursday at the special National Economic Council on Investment in Human Capital, with the theme, "Human Capital Investment in Supporting Pro-poor and Economic Growth Agenda".

He said though the ERGP identifies investing in people as one of its three strategic objectives, its "execution priorities don't fully reflect people's needs, prioritizing physical capital over human capital".

Gates emphasised that investment in infrastructure and competitiveness must involve investments in people.

"To anchor the economy over the long term, Investments in infrastructure and competitiveness must go hand in hand with investments in people. People without roads, poets and factories can't flourish. And roads, ports and factories without skilled workers to build and manage them can't sustain an economy," he said.

Gates said though Nigeria has unmatched economic potential, what becomes of such potential depends on the choices made by Nigerian leaders.

"The most important choice you can make is to maximize your greatest resource, the Nigerian people. Nigeria will thrive when every Nigerian is able to thrive.

He said if the government does not invest in people's health, education and opportunities, there would be a sharp limit to how the country could grow.

On health, he said Nigeria, "is one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth, with the fourth worst maternal rate in the world ahead of only Sierra Leone, Central African Republic and Chad. One in three Nigerian children is chronically malnouriahed.

"I believe the Nigerian primary health care system is not adequately funded. But it also doesn't get the most out of its current funding...More transparency would lead to more accountability which would strengthen governance, leadership and management which would improve quality across the board.

Gates said though Nigeria hasld recorded in polio immunization, the federal government should pursue human capital development with the same vigor in order to achieve the desired results.


He said Nigerian government's revenue "as a percentage of its GDP is by far the lowest in the world, at six percent. "That makes investing in your people difficult".

He said his foundation was working with the Nigerian Governors Forum to help states track internally generated revenue.

Gates said his foundation had committed over $1.6 billion in Nigeria so far and planned to increase its commitment.

He said Nigeria would thrive better with strong investment in health and education, rather than concentratile on physical infrastructure,l to the detriment of human capital development

Gates said though the World Bank's World Development Report showed direct link between the level of education and improvements in employment, productivity and wages, Nigeria's case showed that half of nation's children could not read and write.

The chairman, Dangote Foundation, Aliko Dangote, said Nigeria must prioritize investments in the health and education and alongside other critical areas like infrastructure to be able to compete globally.

Dangote told journalists after the meeting that he told the NEC that there was a need for the private sector to set aside one percent of their profits to support primary health care development and other critical projects in the country.

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai said Gates did not call for a review of the ERGP, but suggested a budgeting system with priorities set out clearly to address human capital development challenges.

"The truth is most Nigerians think that the dividend of democracy amounts to see a road pass by your house, water or electricity. Dangote and Gates reminded all of us today, is that there is something far more Important, than physical infrastructure - roads, electricity, water and that is our investing in the people.
Nigeria is going to be 411 million people by 2050. Today, more than half of our population is very young and unless we try to educate them by ensuring that they are healthy," El-rufai said.


Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who presided over the session, said Nigeria had strong economic growth and development ambitions, encapsulated in the ERGP.

He said all the lofty ambitions in the plan could only be achieved through the determined application of human skill and effort.

“And for that effort to be meaningful and productive it has to come from people who are healthy, educated, and who are, and feel empowered. It is this realisation that has helped ensure that one of the primary planks of the ERGP is ‘Investing in our people’. And it is for this reason that we are expanding the reach and quality of our healthcare, through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS); and working to guarantee basic education for all persons, whilst also upgrading and modernising the quality of secondary and post-secondary education.

“And because this is the 21st century, we know that is also important to ensure that our young people are being prepared for the economies of the future, not the past. This means that STEM education is critical, and that technology must lie at the heart of every one of our educational offerings," he said.

Osinbajo observed that high oil prices and economic growth of previous years had failed to translate into a better life for most Nigerians.

He said grand corruption prevented investments in healthcare and education and infrastructure as well as shamelessly robbed government policies of most of their intended impact.

He said the present administration was aware of Nigeria's problems and prepared to tackle the challenges Dangote Foundation as well as Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation outlined.

The vice president described the government's Social Investment Programme as key component of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.

Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umah, said they appealed to the National Assembly to amend relevant laws "so that we can access the health funds of about 50-50 contributions required by states to access the funds.

"It’s quite challenging because of other contending issues like security, empowerment of women and youth, infrastructure decay and other developmental strands of the various l governance of the state."

“However, Lai Mohammed need not be in a hurry to defend his dishonest and dysfunctional government as he would soon have more than enough to chew.

“This administration will at the appropriate time provide answer to allegations that while the nation sorrow, agents of the APC are busy in financial rackets and criminal round tripping of ransoms, in foreign currencies, to service APC interests.

“The minister should be ready to explain, at the appropriate time, those behind the transactions, who got what and under what agreements, as well as the truth behind allegations of clandestine deals with insurgents.

Forty-four African countries have signed an agreement establishing a free trade area seen as vital to the continent’s economic development, the head of the African Union said Wednesday.

The creation of a free trade area — billed as the world’s largest in terms of participating countries — comes after two years of negotiations and is one of the AU’s flagship projects for greater African integration.

“The agreement establishing the CFTA (African Continental Free Trade Area) was signed by 44 countries,” said Moussa Faki Mahamat, chairman of the AU commission.

However, the agreement will still have to be ratified at a national level and is only due to come into force in 180 days.

Nigeria is notably absent from the signatories after President Muhammadu Buhari pulled out of this week’s launch in Rwanda saying he needed more time for consultations at home.

One of Africa’s largest markets, Nigeria hesitated after objections from business leaders and unions — a sign that getting the deal through scores of national parliaments may face several hurdles.

“Some countries have reservations and have not finalised their national consultations. But we shall have another summit in Mauritania in July where we expect countries with reservations to also sign,” said Albert Muchanga, the AU Commissioner for Trade and Industry.

However other economic powerhouses South Africa, Kenya, Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia and Algeria — known for strict protectionist policies restricting imports and exports — did sign the deal.

If all 55 African Union members eventually sign up, it will create a bloc with a cumulative GDP of $2.5 trillion (2 trillion euros) and cover a market of 1.2 billion people.

Currently, African countries only do about 16 percent of their business with each other, the smallest amount of intra-regional trade compared to Latin America, Asia, North America and Europe.

And with average tariffs of 6.1 percent, businesses currently pay higher tariffs when they export within Africa than when they export outside it, according to the AU.

“If we remove customs and duties by 2022, the level of intra-African trade will increase by 60 percent, which is very, very significant,” Muchanga told AFP in an interview before the summit.

‘No room for the weak’
Proponents of the deal argue that African economies on their own are too small to support economic diversification and industrialisation on their own and will benefit from having a unified platform to negotiate trade deals with wealthier nations.

The “CFTA will make Africa one of the largest economies in the world and enhance its capacity to interact on equal terms with other international economic blocs,” said Faki in a speech before the signing ceremony.

“The world is changing, and changing at a great speed. International competition is fierce. It leaves no room for the weak.”

However, critics highlight a dearth of roads and other infrastructure linking different African nations, as well as the fact that many countries do not manufacture goods their neighbours may want to import, as challenges to the deal.

Sola Afolabi, a Nigeria-based international trade consultant, told AFP the fact already-existing regional trade blocs were not working, should be a red flag.

“If there is no reward for compliance and there is no punishment for non-compliance, then it is going to be a very nice agreement without any teeth or any legs,” he said.

Breaking the trend
Faki acknowledged that Africans “have seen so many proclamations remain a dead letter, so many commitments without practical execution that they have come to doubt the strength of our commitment.”

He urged for a break in this trend, calling for a deal that “must confound those who, outside Africa, continue to think — with barely-concealed condescension — that our decisions will never materialise.”

The CFTA is a key part of the AU’s long-term development plan Agenda 2063, which calls for easing trade and travel across the continent.

At its most recent summit in Ethiopia in January, AU member states agreed to a common air transport market that could drive down airfares, as well as plans for visa-free travel for Africans across the continent.

Also on Wednesday, 27 countries signed the protocol agreeing to the free movement of persons across the continent.

Governor disappointed as ‘4000’ PDP decampees fail to appear



Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa state went home disappointed when 4000 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decampees failed to appear at a rally as earlier announced.


Mr. Badaru was in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, the venue of the occasion to recieve the decampees and commission projects.

The event, organised by Magaji Da’u Aliyu, a member representing Birnin Kudu /Buji federal constituency, was also put together to donate vehicles to party faithful, flag off a feeder road as well as donate N20 million to students of higher institutions from his constituency.

Danmalam Unguwarya, the leader of the decampees did not turn up when called up to present his speech on behalf of the decampees neither did any of his representatives or decampees.



Obviously rattled by the turn of events and to forestall a commotion by political thugs, Mr. Badaru, when delivering a hurried speech, urged party members to take after him by playing politics without bitterness, insisting that “without unity their collective victory will be at a stake”.

Mr. Badaru then flagged off the Waurno to Dankoshe feeder road, presented a N20 million prototype cheque to the leaders of the student unions and gave out keys of six vehicles to party officials from his constituency.


Mr. Aliyu, who did not give details of the length and cost of the road, neither clarified whether the project is a federal government project or part of his constituency projects.

All efforts to speak with him proved abortive as he declined talking to reporters.

Bello Zaki, special adviser to Governor Badaru on media, said the governor was simply there to commission the projects and support the lawmaker. He said only the APC state chairman could explain why the decampees failed to show up.

Gunmen invade secondary school in Ondo carted away N3m

Sources said that the gunmen on getting to the school headed straight to the office of the bursar and robbed him of the money belonging to the school.
He was said to have been traced from one of the new generation banks in the state capital, where he went easier to withdraw the said amount Reports had it that the incident caused a stir as teachers and students who noticed the strange faces fled in different directions.

The atmosphere became rowdy and it resulted into pandemonium in the school.

The state police Command was informed by some teachers who escaped from the scene. However, before the arrival of police detectives, the robbers had escaped with the money. Contacted, the state police image maker Femi Joseph confirmed the robbery incident. Joseph blamed the school bursar for going to the bank to withdraw such a huge amount of money without police escort. T

he police spokesperson pointed out that “the bursar has been arrested and helping the police with investigation. “The was no robbery on the school, the robbers only traced the bursar and disposed him of the money.

“What we learnt was that the hoodlums traced him to the school after he had gone to withdraw a large sum of money without police protection. The money should be close to N3 million. “He is with us, he is helping us with investigation.

We will quiz him to know whether he knows more than he claims.”. Uneasy calm, still pervade the school as parents of students in the boarding house rushed to have a glimpse of what happened at the school.
