gateleo: Well, to the best of my knowledge, For US schools, there is nothing like length of stay of funds..Once you have the money in your account, just print your statement and send to your sch...you can withdraw the money immediately. I printed my statement since January this year and I just submitted same statement to my sch as POF and I30 issued this month despite the statement showing January date..
Good morning folks, please I need clarification. I have an offer to study Public Health at WIU. The condition for issuance of I-20 and official admission letter is the submission of POF.
The question is, is the length of stay of the fund in the account important for issuance of I-20?
Thank you for this response In my case, the correct date of birth is the one contained in my expired international passport while the wrong one is the one contained in the NIN.
Can you please take me through the process of effecting the change of the date of birth on my NIN and the possible cost implications.
Thanks once again for your response
Blackshaid: First of all, which document contains the real date of your birth? NIN or Passport?
Based on similar experience, the info on your NIN must tally with the info on your passport. I had a similar issue but mine was about name arrangement. I had to swear affidavit and do some other things after I had visited NIMC office.
If the wrong date is the one on the NIN slip then that’s easier to tackle, just visit any NIMC close to you and tell you want to change your date of birth on your NIN to the correct one and they will tell you all the requirements. But if the NIN contains the right date and the passport has the wrong date I don’t know how to go about that you might want to contact the NIS or ask any immigration officer how you will go about it .
Good evening everyone, I plan to start the process of renewing my expired passport through DIY. I will like to know if my NIN will be needed for the renewal because my NIN bears a Date of Birth different from what is on my passport.
FG DECLARES WEDNESDAY 12TH, THURSDAY 13TH MAY, 2021 AS PUBLIC HOLIDAYS TO MARK EIDUL-FITR CELEBRATION
The Federal Government has declared Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th May, 2021 as Public Holidays to mark this year's Eidul-Fitr celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, while making the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government today in Abuja, congratulated the Muslim faithful on this occasion and called on all Nigerians, at home and abroad to use the period of this year's Eidul-Fitr celebration to pray for peace, stability and economic transformation in the land.
Aregbesola who believes that development cannot thrive in a rancorous atmosphere, urged all Nigerians to be law-abiding and embrace the spirit of love, self-discipline, kindness and tolerance, as taught by the Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him). He also called on all security agencies in the country to be more courageous and patriotic to surmount the ongoing battle against resurging insecurity and activities of criminal elements in Nigeria.
He assured that the resolve of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to end the scourge of crime and criminality in the country and restore peace to every nook and cranny of Nigeria was sacrosanct.
"This administration will not be deterred in its efforts, until every Nigerian and resident of the country, is free to move around without fear of any threat to his/her life and property. We are therefore putting necessary measures and strategies in place to strengthen the stability of the country as well as ensuring economic prosperity of our dear nation," he emphasised.
The Minister wishes all Muslims a happy and peaceful Eidul-Fitr celebration.

The new variant of the coronavirus currently causing panic and concern in the United Kingdom and the European Union has been identified in Nigeria by scientists at the Africa Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), at the Redeemers University in Ede, Osun State.
The new variant, detected in the UK in September and dubbed “lineage B.1.1.7” has triggered the current exponential spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the larger path of the United Kingdom, leading to a travel ban on the UK by some countries and a stay-at-home tier-4 level restriction in the affected paths of the country.
Now, scientists at the Africa Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases at Ede, in South West Nigeria, said Monday, through a publication in Virological, a website for the global Genomics community, that they found the same variant “lineage B.1.1.7” existing in Osun State Nigeria since August 3rd when the first sample was collected. Another sample, also from Osun State, was collected in October correspondingly showed the presence of this new variant.
According to Christian Happi, Professor of molecular biology and genomics who is also the Director at the Africa Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), “the B.1.1.7 lineage we found in Nigeria, predating the one described in the UK, has also been observed to rise rapidly in the UK over the past four weeks, indicating the plausible increased spread of the virus by specific non-synonymous mutations in the spike protein.”
Although Nigeria has in December recorded a rise in the number of cases and an increase in deaths, Mr Happi told PREMIUM TIMES in an interview that he cannot credit the new variant for this rise as it was last seen in October and at the time, there was no surge in the number of cases.
“We however haven’t observed such rapid rise of the lineage in Nigeria and do not have sufficient evidence to indicate that the B.1.1.7 lineage is contributing to increased transmission of the virus in Nigeria,” he said.
Should this be a case for panic and worry for Nigerians? Mr. Happi’s team made a case for caution, warning that although the new variant might not be responsible for the rise in cases, that could change when new samples are sequenced .
“At the moment, only about 1% of the genomes from Nigeria belong to the new SARS-CoV-2 variant (B.1.1.7 lineage) and one of them predates the first description in the UK. However, this might change in the next few weeks when we sequence more samples from the recently reported surge of covid-19 in Nigeria” they announced, noting that, “other reported mutations such as the N501Y, A570D, and the HV 69 – 70 deletion in the spike protein have not been detected in our genomes yet, this could also be associated with the non-increase of the lineage in Nigeria currently.”
“In as much as the full effect of this mutation isn’t known yet and it is still being studied, the importance of a robust genomic surveillance system cannot be overemphasized as we can identify and report changes in the genomes of pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 that are of public health interest,” the report said
You’re quite correct. Tinubu has every resources(human, material and financial) needed to prosecute his political ambition but age is not on his side. His best shot will be for him to pave way for OSINBAJO who due to being the current VP would have acquired the needed experience to run the nation properly.
omenka: I have nothing against Jagaban but utmost respect. Gentleman is a political sage no doubt. He has the connections and financial war chest to fight any form of political battle in our land, BUT, I'd rather an Osinbajo or some other trustworthy South Westerner flies the APC banner.
I'm hoping all these expeditions are meant to pave the way for someone else. I'm sceptical Jagaban's age might be a clog in the wheels of his performance, same way it has proven to be with Baba.
I just want the best for my dear country- we've been through WAY TOO MUCH.
Soldiers manning the gate at the Military Hospital in Ikoyi have stopped the Lagos judicial panel on #EndSARS from accessing the hospital’s mortuary.
The panel, unannounced, on Friday went to the hospital on investigation into the shooting at Lekki tollgate where 15 protesters were reportedly killed.
Some witnesses of the Lekki shooting accused the military of taking away the bodies of those killed in the incident.
The panel met resistance as it got to the gate of the hospital.
Ebun Adegboruwa, a member of the panel, told the soldiers, who stopped them at the gate, that the panel came to the hospital because it had intelligence that might help with its investigation.
“The facility is relevant to our investigation. We have a pathologist. We are here on the authority of the president, not only the governor,” he said.
“We are following dues process, and it is important we visit the mortuary as it will help our findings.
If we are not allowed access, we will go back and take other actions. We won’t force ourselves in. We have confidential information that the military hospital here is relevant in the investigation of the Lekki event. We heard this hospital is controlled by 65 battalion, and under the 81 division. We are also taking steps to reach military authorities.”
Adegboruwa said though the panel does not have evidence that there are bodies of those killed at the tollgate in the hospital, it was at the facility to verify the claim that they were.
He also said the panel will continue its work until it gets to the truth of the matter.
Journalists were also asked to leave the hospital premises while one of the soldiers threatened that “things will get dirty” if they refused.
Despite the presence of Doris Okuwobi, a retired justice and chairperson of the panel who arrived minutes later, the military did not allow the panel access to its facility.
Olaniyi Osoba, spokesperson of army’s 81 division in Lagos, was not immediately available for comment over the matter.
Earlier, the panel visited the tollgate where Yomi Omomuwansa, managing director of Lekki Concession Company (LCC), took the panel on a tour of the facility.
They do in Ibadan too but mostly in major/government-controlled abattoirs and that's one of the reasons Ajimobi created a central abattoir at Amosun village in Akinyele LGA and ordered all abattoirs to be moved there for proper monitoring but people for whatever reasons opposed his decision then before they finally complied.
There are still mushroom abattoirs operating in localities which makes it difficult to enforce testing because of their size.
backnbeta: On top of this covid? But I'm really impressed that they test their cows to ensure they are safe for human consumption...I don't know if they test ours here in Ibadan, but to be on a safer side, we'll just 'over boil' as usual, until the mycobacterium bovis and any other bad thing dies along with some of the nutrients
From a personal experience of my stay in Yola for 6 years ( I studied at Federal University of Technology, Yola now Modibbo Adama University of Technology), I will say that if the job offer is in the state capital (Yola North LGA) and other surrounding LGAs like Yola South and Girei LGAs, you should take the offer because those LGAs are very safe and in case of any security breach, you can always find safe places.
Yola is a very cool place with a good mix of indigenes and non-indigens and have a relatively balanced religious demography.
You don't need much to live a comfortable life as cost of living is cheap and transportation is also cheap.
If the offer is in an international organization like AUN or Federal establishments like MAUTECH, career progression shouldn't be a problem but if not, you may have to weigh your options.
In all, Yola is a great place.
Epistemology: I need public opinion on this, please spare me your time.
I currently work in Abuja and my monthly salary is #75k a month, so I recently got another job offer in YOLA #170k a month including accomodation...... I actually asked family and friends for their thoughts and advice on me moving to Yola....and I got a lot of negative feedback. The reply are as follow;
A Male friend: Yola is not a peaceful place, there's insurgency there, and I'm in that stage of my life where I need to start thinking of settling down and this might not bode well for me as I might not want to settle down in Yola...( BTW, I'm a 24yr old female.)
Best friend: I'm naturally an introvert(I'm socially awkward) even in Abuja I don't mingle well, if I go to Yola, my Social life will be dead, I might be living a monk's life and also the issue of insecurity.
Parents: if the place is safe, I should go for it.
Northern Colleague: Yola is a very nice and cool place to live with lower cost of living, but I might find it difficult transitioning from Abuja life to Yola.
Me: I lived all my life in the south, and you know how we have this perception of northern states, the first northern place I've been to so far is Abuja, truth is I don't know how safe Yola town is, I have a colleague who moved to Yola for work, but then she's from there so I can't really compare with her...............I already made up my mind that I was going to reject the offer and keep my job in Abuja while looking out for better opportunities...... HOWEVER, after receiving my salary yesterday and buying food, paying bills and sending money home....I noted that 75k is small sha (I always know that sha) , and the fact that I've not been getting feed back from jobs I applied for....now I'm having a second though about the offer, should I go?, Should I not go?
BTW, the position will really boost my CV
If you were in my shoe, what are the things you'll consider and what will you do?
Amadou Gon Coulibaly, Ivory Coast’s Prime Minister and the ruling party’s candidate for October's presidential election, has died.
Coulibaly died on Wednesday after taking part in a cabinet meeting, Patrick Achi, Secretary-General in the presidency, said in a statement on national television.
Achi said the 61-year-old late Prime Minister, who had heart surgery in 2012, became unwell during the weekly meeting and was evacuated to a hospital where he passed away.
He had returned to Ivory Coast last Thursday after two months in France to undergo a heart exam and rest.
“Fellow compatriots, Ivory Coast is mourning. It is with deep pain that I announce to you that Prime Minister, Amadou Gon Coulibaly, has left us,” the statement read.
His death is likely to set off a scramble within the ruling RHDP party to replace him as its candidate in an election that is considered a key test of stability for the world’s top cocoa producer.

The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has placed the mother of late Super Eagles striker, Rashidi Yekini, Alhaja Sikiratu, on a monthly stipend of N10,000.
Mr Olaitan Shittu, a representative of the Minister of Sports, Mr Sunday Dare, disclosed this at Ijagbo, near Offa in Kwara on Wednesday, when he donated Ramadan gifts on behalf of the minister to the aged mother.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the minister donated the sum of N50,000 as part of the Ramadan gifts to Yekini’s mother.
Some of the items donated with the cash included a 50 kg bag of rice, 10 kg bag of wheat and six tins of Milo beverage drink.
Shittu explained that it was not the first time the minister was reaching out to Alhaja Yekini as he was also at her residence in September, 2019.
He said that the Ministry would also be extending the same gesture to the mother of late Super Eagles player, Samuel Okwaraji.
Responding, Alhaja Yekini, who spoke in her local dialect (Yoruba), thanked the minister and prayed fervently for him.
“I have been abandoned for a long time and have not seen any help from anyone.
“I was hospitalised for few days some months ago and I did catered for myself despite scarce resources: even last month, I received treatment from the hospital.
“I need help from Nigerians, but this minister has done very well, especially remembering me in this holy month of Ramadan.
“Since my son died, it has been very tough for me because I do not have any help from people.
“Rashidi’s siblings are not doing well too, so, I was left to struggle for life everyday,” she said.
NAN recalls that late Yekini died eight years ago in Ibadan after retiring from football.
His professional career spanned more than two decades and was mainly associated with Vitória de Setúbal in Portugal.
Besides playing for Nigeria, Yekini also played in six other countries including Ivory Coast.
Yekini scored 37 goals as a Nigerian international from 58 games and represented the nation in five major tournaments, including two World Cups where he scored the country’s first-ever goal in the competition against Bulgaria in the USA ’94 World Cup.
He was also named the African Footballer of the Year in 1993.(NAN)
