yuzedo: Not at all, my good man...
Old Money - Wealth (most times passed on from generation to generation) that comes with pedigree, class, and quiet dignity. Synonymous with the bourgeois or proletariat class of society. Old money families will typically teach their children six languages and three instruments including violin, piano and other classy shxt. They know the difference between a chardonnay and a cabernet sauvignon, and how to consume, and with what. Vehicles of choice, Mercedes, Rolls Royce. Vacation destinations include Gstaad, Switzerland (they know the G is silent), Ibiza (they know it is pronounced "I-bee-tha" , etc. Examples include Dantata & family, Yuzedo (the Elite) & Sons, etc.
New Money - Riches (newly acquired to the surprise of all including and especially the holder) that motivates one to flaunt it on social media. Buy garrulous jewellery, buy "HUMMER JEEP" or any other Fxcking "JEEP" for that matter (it's not an SUV to them) and champagne every friday with ratchets hoes and equally-loud, "jaiye-jaiye" friends. The money dey quick finish, e no dey ever reach their grandkids because they are averse to buying the future, but would rather purchase vanities in the present. Holiday itinerary - LONDON (e no dey ever pass London, and they love Peckham more than Jesus Christ?! Oh my fackin' gaad!! Can also be found in Woolwich, NEVER EVER in Knightsbridge) Examples include ALL NIGERIAN CELEBRITIES (except Rita Dominic), Femi-Fani Kayode, and Sagamite (Bros i use God beg you na play!)

Politics › Propaganda - Youths Buying Forms For Candidates? by enigmang(op): 12:50pm On Oct 29, 2014 |
Propaganda, is defined as “information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a political cause or point of view.” In the Nigerian political sphere, it seems that we live for propaganda.
The newfound propaganda item, amongst our representatives, or public figures vying for office in 2015, is the claim that their candidacy forms are being fully or partially funded by youth groups, women groups, elders, or indigenes of the local government, constituency, senatorial district or state. The most recent stories have included young people who gave hundreds of thousands, to public figures or representatives, towards the purchase of their candidacy forms. The exaggerated and self-indulgent tenderness, sadness, or nostalgia that these stories breed, need not be mentioned. Alas, sentimentality is the bedrock of Nigerian elections. Our representatives know us, and they have learnt to manipulate our good will.
The standout issue, on these stories that fester sentiment, is one of authenticity. Our experience working to foster transparency in governance and accountability of our representatives over the last few years, including our work tracking constituency projects, has shown us the view from the other side - most constituencies are tired of their current leadership and need change. These constituencies complain of a near total absence of meaningful constituency projects, poor representation, inaccessible representatives, and an apathetic approach from their representatives towards legislature that could potentially enhance the constituency and the well-being of its members.
When a few weeks to the party primaries however, groups from these constituencies who have been largely shut out and uncared for, who have had poor representation and an inaccessible representative start clamouring for the very same representative to return, so much that they go out to purchase candidacy forms, you do not need to be a genius to see that this is propaganda. You do not need to be an expert in the political frameworks of Nigeria, to see that stomach infrastructure must have become involved.
One example we would like to particularly mention would be the case of the representative of the Isuikwuato/Umu-nneochi constituency of Abia State, which motivated us to put up this post. A news headline on AIT this morning announced that constituency members, young people and elders from the constituency purchased her form, and are clamouring to have her back as their representative in the Federal House of Representatives.
This contradicts every piece of information we have, from tracking constituency projects and work in this constituency. Women groups, Youth groups, Party caucuses and factions within the constituency are all mostly said to have fallen out with this representative, with certain groups having previously accused of her claiming their group community development projects, as her projects. Most of these groups have supposedly refused to meet with or deliberate with this representative, and have publicly expressed their disinterest, in her continued representation of the constituency.
This leaves the big question: Who is not being true to the people? Are the members of these groups throwing out misleading information about their relationship with the representative? Or have they changed their minds in the heat of election season? Or is it a propaganda headline, that claims that young people, women & elders of this constituency, are in support of the representative and have even mobilised to purchase her form?
At the time of publication of this item, we have been unable to reach members of staff of the Representative cited in our example for their comment on the news headline this morning. Our guess is that they will vehemently stand behind the headline, as they have a right to. We would really love for that headline to be genuine, seeing as it contradicts all the information we have from the said constituency.
This situation is not unique to this representative. It is one of many examples, of what we have seen over the last few weeks. A source close to one of our political big wigs, who wishes to remain unnamed, has gone so far as to confirm that all it takes is a fund-transfer to a youth group, with twice the amount for the form, and the leadership of the youth group galvanise and mobilise members for the charade that a purchase of candidacy form, has become. Third-party purchases, funded by the candidate, being sold to us as community endorsement, then? We would like to however take a stance and reiterate that Nigerians deserve a little more directness, honesty and transparency from those we have chosen from among us, to lead. We have for too long, been treated like a foolish and uneducated electorate, whose representatives only come home to solicit their votes. It is election season again, and it is time for us to demand an end to propaganda, an end to poor representation, and above all, representatives who will look out for us, always.
If the people want you, you do not need to manipulate us and the media.
God bless Nigeria. |
Politics › Meet The Man Who Tamed Nigeria's Most Lawless City by enigmang(op): 10:01pm On Oct 24, 2014 |
He famously claims to be "just doing his job". But in a land where politicians are known for doing anything but, that alone has been enough to make Babatunde Fashola, boss of the vast Nigerian city of Lagos, a very popular man. Confounding the image of Nigerian leaders as corrupt and incompetent, the 51-year-old governor has won near-celebrity status for transforming west Africa's biggest city, cleaing up its crime-ridden slums and declaring war on corrupt police and civil servants. Next month, he will come to London to meet business leaders and Mayor Boris Johnson's officials, wooing investors with talk of how he has spent the last seven years building new transport hubs and gleaming business parks. Yet arguably his biggest achievement in office took place just last week, and was done without a bulldozer in sight. That was when his country was officially declared free of Ebola, which first spread to Nigeria three months ago when Patrick Sawyer, an infected Liberian diplomat, flew into Lagos airport. Health officials had long feared that the outbreak, which has already claimed nearly 5,000 lives elsewhere in west Africa, would reach catastrophic proportions were it to spread through Lagos. One of the largest cities in the world, it is home to an estimated 17 million people, many of them living in sprawling shanty towns that would have become vast reservoirs for infection. To make matters worse, when the outbreak first happened, medics were on strike. Instead, Mr Fashola turned a looming disaster into a public health and PR triumph. Breaking off from a trip overseas, he took personal charge of the operation to track down and quarantine nearly 1,000 people feared to have been infected since Mr Sawyer's arrival. Last week, what would have been a formidably complex operation in any country came to a successful end, when the World Health Organisation announced that since Nigeria had had no new cases for six weeks, it was now officially rid of the virus. "This is a spectacular success story," said Rui Gama Vaz, a WHO spokesman, who prompted an applause when he broke the news at a press conference in Nigeria on Tuesday. "It shows that Ebola can be contained." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/nigeria/11184759/Meet-the-man-who-tamed-Nigerias-most-lawless-city.htmlLong read but worth it.. I have been looking at a number of posts on the internet, and some subtle newspaper messages, and I am wondering if we will really find credible candidates, running for positions in 2015. I have so far seen this person, who i think is a candidate for house of rep, https://www.facebook.com/drejikeoji, but where are the others? We seriously need people that have achieved and done well, either in other spheres of life, or in politics to step up. Hmmmm. |
Romance › Re: Dating Who You Will Not Marry by enigmang: 9:08am On Oct 13, 2014 |
Hadizy: Is it pointless to visit Rome if you don't intend to move there? Is it pointless to see a movie if you're not going to buy the DVD? Is it pointless to drink a really good beer when you know you'll be peeing it away within the hour? Lol!!
Live for now, not later. Do you choose friends based on whether or not you will know them for the rest of your life? No, unless you're some kind of weirdo. The same principle applies here. Why stop hanging with someone you enjoy?
Romance is unpredictable. Anything can happen. We rarely know who we'll fall for. Love is sneaky like that. ( The guy's / lady is married? People get divorced. He's gay? People become straight. He's your brother? Okay, that one's an absolute definite no, although you could probably find a country somewhere in the world where you could marry. ) But...ew.
All I'm saying is don't be so sure you know what's going to happen. You don't.
Even if you do know, even if never marry the guy, it's still not pointless. He's a friend, maybe even a friend with benefits. Being with him makes you happy; is it a waste of time for you to be happy? Is it pointless to get laid? Every relationship is a practice run for the Big One. We learn a little something about life and about ourselves from everyone we date. Is that pointless? Au contraire, mon amie!

What do you think should happen to a Nigerian soldier in the Battle field that decides to be passing information to the enemy BokoHaram, in order for his collegues to ambushed and killed? Or do you think it will be fair to keep and feed the mole among the NA that has led to death of many of his colleagues in the Bush?
I think Bush court martial will not be bad idea, for officers cought red handed as moles. Other softer cases like mutiny can be done using the [/b]normal miltary court martialling process. #MyOpinion Did you just call mutiny a SOFT CASE ?? |
