Transferring is not an option as most schools are done with admission processes. Then the logistics involved is cumbersome and unnecessary. I believe most schools would make it hybrid for international Students.

She herself is there on a good scholarship offer. I hope she sees what we've been trying to say since that Trumps policies are not pro-americans but purely anti-immigrant and xenophobic.

I get your point. But one thing I know is that one can still use a stone to kill many birds. You can get into US,
have a plan B from day one on ways to get into other countries and still get your US degree. People are doing it. Canada and UK for example have other immigration pathways that isn't student Visa. For example, UK has a route for PhD holders. I heard of someone that got into US to study MSc Systems Engineering on full funding and still found his way into Canada post graduation to work as a Data Scientist. The guy even turned down a PhD offer from his US school. Truth is US is a land of opportunities, though, it is unfortunate that they don't want us. Someone that graduated with a 2.2 here still has the chance to get into a reasonable school, study for free or almost free at worst, by just strengthening other part of their application package. The country practically gives you hope of a standard reasonably priced education.

It is nice you're advising them to consider these options--and that is chiefly because you're in yourself. If you are still in Nigeria and grappling with the uncertainties, and other frustrating stuffs, you'd have seen things differently. First, the focus on the US is because of its generosity in aids to international students. We have been on this road before, and I think we settled the matter once and for all. None of those countries you mention support international students as US invest in them. None!

You mentioned Germany. How many people were getting German study visas before the pandemic to set in? I have students who could not get appointment due to "crowd or too many application"--which is a systemic way of saying: "We are not giving more visas, do not apply!" How many Nigerians will Australia give full funding as you got from Austin Peay (maybe with minor deficit, cause I remember you contacted me before you got your visa). Check those countries you listed and see the difference compare to the US.

Policies always change, and true, people must not be rigid in their pursuit. What makes you think Germany, Australia, UK, Canada, and others cannot change their own policies, too? Also, the funds required to process things can be heavy and burdensome. The US, in my view and based on experience, is still one of the most affordable countries, with better opportunities--which is why you chose to go there yourself.

What I am saying? Time changes, Nations change, politicians come and go, pandemic come and leave, but your dream must remain solid--or else, you will miss fulfillment later in life, and regret for not shooting at your ideal target.

If anybody here wants US, I would like to advise them to keep US as option A[/b], and if they can afford to process other countries, they should put that as [b]option B. There's nothing wrong with the present US in the sense that the world itself is experiencing shakes and era of uncertainties, I also do not see Trump as a threat to dreamers who wish to study and work in the US. He's a politician, and it is in the nature of politicians to be temperamental and fickles. The politicians now making policy that students who study in the UK can now stay and get work permit, can change tomorrow, reversing the policy. You see? That is life for us when our own Homeland has refused to grow, and neither you, myself and other Nigerian youths are ready to demand for change that hinges on making this decisive demand.

It is well. I strongly believe the US is going through a transitional phase; things may get better or worse--and we must say that for those countries you mention. Nowhere is certain my dear! But no matter what, one must hold unto his/her dream!
I hope your school is going 100% online in fall, or else, Nigeria is waiting for you

You can keep preaching till eternity. Most people chose a particular country for a reason. Most are potential graduate students and are adults that know the options available to them. They have heard about UK, Australia and Canada, Estonia and Germany, Turkey, North Cryprus, Scandinavian countries and the likes. Some are so desperate that they try five countries at a time. I can apply to a UK university today with my undergraduate transcript, WAEC result and paper reference letters and get an admission offer in 5hours or 3days. Very easy and less tedious. But we still go through the pain of writing GRE, GMAT,TOEFL and the likes to get to a US school. All for a reason. Everyone knows where they came from. Millions of dollars are awarded to Nigerian students in funding every year, you won't get that in any other country. I am sure you are currently enjoying some of their benevolence. My point is that it is not as easy to ignore US as you are presenting it to be

What if it's a decoy for schools to open during fall semester in-person instead of online. I think Trump wants to reopen at all cost and that's what majority of his fans want. If schools don't reopen in-person int'l students will transfer or leave the country and schools will lose funds invariably.

So see this policy/threat in an objective way.

Exactly! With this new rule, new i-20s will have to be issued to students whose schools will be having hybrid and in-person classes. Or else, no visa interview or even entry to the U.S. But it is too early to determine when a student should ask for the new i-20 since embassy is still closed.

If you come and you do the stupid act - you would be brought to book. It is quite pathetic to see how many Nigerian domestic violence issues are occurring amongst newly landed immigrants.

This is not Nigeria. Police will not just drop the charges because the victim said they should. It is a crime against the Crown and it is highly sensitive here- Intimate Partner Violence.

PR does not make you immune from deportation. It has Immigration consequences- criminal inadmissibility may strip you off your PR status and lead to deportation.

I'm sure we all know how tasking this process is. Is it worth landing only to get deported after?
