NOUN ALUMNUS BAGS DISTINCTION FROM UNILAG

A National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) alumnus, Matthew Ogunsuada, has graduated with Distinction from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) after completing a Master of Science degree in Mass Communication.

Mr. Ogunsuada emerged as the Best Graduating Student for the 2023/2024 MSc Mass Communication set.

He earned a Second-Class Upper degree from the National Open University of Nigeria in 2023 before enrolling at the University of Lagos in pursuit of a more rigorous and conventional academic experience.

A broadcast journalist with Voice of the People Television (VOP TV), Ogunsuada hosts the education-focused programme Edu-Dialogue, while also working as a reporter, producer, and broadcast content developer.

An orphan who lost his mother at the age of seven and his father at sixteen, Ogunsuada’s academic and professional journey has been shaped by determination and grit.

He described the achievement as a testament to his faith, resilience, and perseverance against the odds.

He said his education at NOUN gave him the exposure that enabled him to begin his broadcasting career with Celestial Honours Television, before moving to Voice of the People Television, where he further developed his skills while studying.

During his time at NOUN, Ogunsuada also enrolled for the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) professional examinations, which he passed, earning him the status of an Associate Member.

He also completed courses at the National Broadcast Academy, became a member of the Institute of Corporate and Public Sector Professionals (ICPSP), and obtained certification from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), among other professional qualifications.

I did semester and courses registration earlier this semester. I think one update later occurred on the portal that made my semester fee refunded. I was advised to reregister for the semester and I did. But I am taken to higher semester.

For clarification, I am supposed to be in 300L second semester but the system took me to 400L first semester. I tried to request for change of semester but the system says I can't request for a change because I had registered one or more courses for this semester.



I want to know if I can go ahead with this semester and correct the error next semester, thank you.

The system is so rigid that many persons having this problem have been told so far that nothing can be done. Just register what you can this semester and adjust by next semester.

For the context, I am Direct Entry student. 100L GST courses are showing on my support portal but I can't find them on the registration section. I complained and I was told that only NOU107 is mandatory for DE student. I don't want to hold my breath for that.

The explanation they gave you is correct. NOU107 is the compulsory lower level course for 200L DE students. It's normal to see lower level courses on your support portal.

This is not password reset issue. He has to contact an ICT Staff in his study Centre. Even Support often. Redirects you to your ICT staff for it to be resolved.

This is not a case of resetting password. This must be treated by an IT staff. It happens if you leave your portal for a long while. I am not sure you registered last semester.
If you are yet to send a complaint, I can help you. Just send your matriculation number via my mail on my DP.

My courses for this semester are 2 units each and I have registered only 7 courses so far, which is 14 units. This shows that I am not close to the maximum, so where could the problem be coming from?

At a point, I had to check my registered course and I discovered that the portal MERGED both the ones I registered in my first semester and the one of this my second semester together, hence it's telling me that I have reached the maximum.

Is this semester registered courses not supposed to be treated different from last semester especially as regards unit loads calculation?

Thank you but this is not my case at the moment. I have written all the courses I'm supposed to write(all the GSTs), I have even wrote about 4 more 200l courses not GSTs. NOU107, GST302, GST 202 DES303 all written by me. The only 200l courses they said I must write to graduate are all 200l Eco course. They also said I must met 91 credit units and I now have 92 CU. I'm confused because I don't know what to do again as the person who responds to the tickets insist I must write the 200l courses

I have answered all these questions in your previous comments. Just wait for graduation list

It is a good development that will bring more credibility to the results. The problem however is, anyone can actually claim that there is no network and then refuse to transmit the results electronically. This is not about Atiku or Obi or any body. See it as an improvement to our existing electoral process that will improve the credibility of the outcome.

I have explained this before. If 200L students DE students are required to write all outstanding 100L, what then is the difference between 100L student and 200L student?
As a 300L DE student, what you must do is NOU107/GST107. That is the only lower level course you must do before you graduate.

Check your result on the support portal. What is your entry level showing?
Secondly, from experience even 200L DE students get to see all 100L courses in their portal. It has always been like that.

Dear All, Good evening.
So, a semester before last semester I concluded my program at NOUN.
When results were released, I saw some 200 level courses as outstanding courses. I was surprised because I started from 300 level with my HND. So, I contacted someone working in the school and she told me she want to reach out to her counselor and she later told me to ignore as instructed by the counselor since I have cleared Gst107 (now NOU107) and GST302.
That every other 200 level courses won't affect my graduation because I started from 300 level.
Few days later a course mate who was also in my shoes called me that she has reach out to another person in the study center and the person said she must write them. Or do all the 200 level GSTs, that she has already registered.

So, I raised a ticket via support and I was told that for me to graduate, I must complete a credit load of 90 units and cleared all relevant courses outstanding. Because of this I decided to take 5 courses with the only GST outstanding. Note, the GST is 200 level GST.
As last semester results were released, I cleared them all with 2A and 3B, pushing my credit units to 92 instead of 90 as a benchmark.
To my greatest surprise, the just released graduation list has exclude me.

I raised a ticket again, I was told there will be another graduation list but I must ensure I addressed my outstanding courses. I'm disappointed, they should have tell me to start from 200 level instead of all this drama.

Did they tell you to address the 200L outstanding courses? From my personal experience, some of the person who respond to enquiries often make mistakes and some it is because of some often conflicting info. For instance, you see that GST105 and GST207 ane mututally exclusive only to see your registrable courses that you have both of them. We have also heard about how ALL GST courses in 100L are compulsory for 200L DE students even when info on the website specifically says only GST107 is compulsory for 200L DE.

From my experience, if you have no outstanding 200L course course, you will graduate. Just watch and see. The fact that your name didn't come out before doesn't mean you haven't cleared all your courses. With the info you have provided, I can confidently say you are done unless your level of entry in their school database is not 300 but 200.

You are not meant to pay from the remita first. You are supposed to get the invoice that you will use to make payment

Check your email for generated remita invoice. Go to remita.net and make payment using the remita number. After the payment, you can CONTINUE HANGING APPLICATION

It is NOT allowed. When you are applying, you will be asked if you are currently running a programme in NOUN. Clicking YES will make you not to proceed with the admission. It's part of the school policies.

Some people don't see anything wrong with this at all. A country where people block the road to pray not realizing blocking the road is breaking of law and God does not support lawlessness! Many still don't see anything wrong with this. Any country where people hold religion above national laws can never progress.

We are over-stressed for virtually everything. Most things are so inefficient. You go to withdraw money in a POS and due to network, you are debited and the POS agent is not credited. You reach your bank and you are told to file a complaint and wait for 48-72hrs. Imagine how they expect one to cope if that is your last money!

Yes, I see some overly religious people in offices too. That was how one staff who was supposed to conduct an exam that happens at the same time all over the country on a Friday. The man said he has to go and pray first. Like, everyone should wait let him go and do Friday prayer first, meanwhile, other Centres would have started the exams. If students begin to protest, some people will say it is because the staff is a Muslim. Nigeria.

I once subscribed data on my network to help a student do his registration on deadline day. Due to poor network, I couldn't. I kept trying till my laptop battery ran down. I eventually ran to use a UPS in my office and it still didn't work out. Had to subscribe data on another network before I finally succeeded. Something that should take me 10mins took me 2-3hrs, spent more money, expended more energy and I was unnecessarily stressed. Nigeria. Let me not forget that it's been more than 6 years, that student I helped with the registration hasn't payed back my money that I used to help him fund his wallet to help complete his registration!

Everything is overly stressful in Nigeria. Many is due to laziness and lackadaisical attitude of staff members while some is the fault of the inefficient system. Some will want you to grease their palm before they do what they were employed to do. If you know you have been living in the UK, canada or US or other countries where things work smoothly, returning to Nigeria wont be easy. You go cry tire.
