Celebrities16 Things People Say That They Don’t Actually Mean by entadaplace(op): 10:18am On Aug 17, 2014
1. “It’s fine.” Literally nothing could be less fine.

2. “We should get a drink some time and catch up!” I really do want to catch up with you, but inevitably we’ll just run into each other again six months from now and make this same promise.

3. “I’m almost there!” I left my apartment one minute ago.

4. “I’m just getting one drink and then I’ll be home.” I will loudly slam everything in the kitchen when I get home at 1 a.m. and start making nachos.

5. “Your baby is sooo cute.” All new babies look the same.

6. “How was your weekend?” How long do we have to make polite small talk before I can ask if you finally hooked up with that guy from accounting?

7. “I’m not looking for something serious.” I’m not looking for something serious with you.

8. “What’s your name?” I’m not sure why I’m asking this question because I am 100 percent not going to remember your reply. Jessica? Jamie? Oh, Betty, sorry.

9. “I’m about to get on the subway/in my car. Can I call you back?” This conversation needs to end right now.

Music/RadioThoughts For The Nigerian Upcoming Musician by entadaplace(op): 5:05pm On Aug 11, 2014
The Nigerian music industry is probably one of the most interesting yet difficult businesses in the world. It has always been competitive, and these days, income is becoming harder and harder to find. Music as a whole is one of those vocations that gets in your blood and keeps you dreaming throughout most of your life, unless you do something about it. A person with great dreams can achieve great things. Making a little money playing music on the side isn’t so hard, but in order to turn a passion into a career, you have to want it more than anything else. Though there is a ton of luck involved, many factors can be influenced to put you in a position to launch a musical career.

BE EXCEPTIONAL

You can’t make it in this business unless the music you make is EXCEPTIONALLY good. ‘Good’ means that it has a market (beyond your loyal friends and family) and that you can create a standard substantially higher than average.

It’s a harsh reality to face but, looking at the law of averages, it stands to reason that not everyone will be above the center line. If enough unbiased people are telling you that what you do is impressive, do everything you can to become even better. Devote time, effort and – yes – money to fueling your dream. If nothing is ventured then nothing is gained.

QUALITY AUDIO

When people hear your joint for the first time they will be expecting a certain level of audio quality. You need to ensure that your productions are well recorded, mixed and present the musical content in the best possible way for that all important first impression. Did you get your track mastered? Why not? Mastering is as important as mixing. Even if your music is presented as a low quality MP3, it still needs to be well mixed/mastered and arranged to capture the listeners attention the first time it is heard. A weak mix without impact will not be able to do your melodic work justice.

PROMOTION

Never assume that your music will have so much appeal that it will sell itself. Quality alone is no guarantee of success – we all know of music that we think deserves a wider audience while, conversely, we also hear music whose success seems inexplicable. These successes and failures can be explained by a single word – PROMOTION.

People who don’t know your music exists can’t buy it and that’s true even if it’s the best song ever written. Like the Warri adage; “na who buy form dey win Miss World”.

Any and all ways of letting potential fans know of your existence must be explored. Ignoring promotion in favour of churning out new material will guarantee that your fan base won’t expand beyond your friends and family.

HIRE PROFESSIONALS

As your profile grows, it might be time to bring in specialist marketing/promotional personnel. Generally, such people are hired to raise the awareness of your product.

Specialists like this spend their lives keeping in touch with people you’ll find it hard to reach yourself, such as newspaper and radio journalists, pluggers, music bloggers, gig bookers and other essential Nigerian industry contacts. You’ll effectively employ them to take your product to market and work as hard as possible to ensure that awareness of your record moves a few crucial rungs up the ladder. Often, the momentum generated by a few months of carefully planned marketing can be sustained by you thereafter.

CREATE A CATCHY IMAGE

Most musicians in Nigeria severely underestimate the importance of their image. Yes, music is about ‘music’, but music business success is about a total package that includes music, image and visual during live performances, among other things that need to be fully developed and integrated in a congruent way.

It is undeniable that image plays a dominant role in the Nigerian music industry. Once you enter the realm of the music industry, you instantly have to consider perception; how are you perceived, and what are you transmitting. I would almost go as far as saying that image is just as important, if not more than the music itself. This is because certain bands (going back to Psquare, Flavour and D’banj) have proved that once you get the imagery right, the music does not have to be that good anymore. Image is an aspect of the music industry that is often overlooked by many musicians, and it could be argued that a strong image is what separates commercially successful musicians from others.

CelebritiesI Left Medical School To Pursue My Musical Career – Yung L by entadaplace(op): 11:42pm On Aug 09, 2014
This is an exclusive interview in which i will like you to read on my blog. Kindly read here

Excerpts

Your songs have been making waves in the industry. How do you feel about it?

I’m glad that people like it How did you get into music? I developed an interest in music by listening to radio at a very tender age, In 2002, my mom introduced me to a keyboardist who taught me how to play music instruments. From there, I dedicated myself fully to music.

How did you meet Ice Prince, Jesse Jagz and Ice Prince?

My keyboardist introduced me to Ice Prince, M.I and Jesse Jagz some years ago.

You seem close to Ice Prince, what’s your relationship like?

Ice Prince is more like a brother to me.He has helped me a lot in my career. I do follow him to shows and interviews just to learn and see how things go in the industry. That was how I put up my first record, a freestyle ‘Red Rose’ after which I was nominated for Rookie of the year in 2012.I was surprised because I hadn’t put out the video for the song.

Tell us about Grip Boiz music crew?

Grip Boiz music crew was formed by me, Ice Prince, Endia and Justice in Jos. It was initially called Republicans, so when Ice Prince left for Lagos, I took charge of the group, then we changed the name to grip. We were dropping tracks every week and eventually became big in Jos, but presently we are based in Lagos.

Are there difficulties you face recording with the crew?

No. We all live together. Me and Chopstix stay in the same house but different rooms, he wakes up, creates a beat, we freestyle on it, and that’s how we record. We don’t record under pressure.

When is your album likely to drop?

No particular date [is set] yet for the album, but the extended project (EP) ‘ Marley Project’ will drop this year. I’m presently working on both projects at the same time.

In such a competitive music industry, how do you plan to stand out?

They’ve been telling me that ever since I came into the game, but I have just been myself. I hardly listen to what is out there, I don’t worry about what others are doing and so far, I’ve been winning.

How did your parents feel about you leaving medical school for music?

My mom was cool about it. She didn’t dispute my decision, although she always wanted me to be a medical doctor. I spent three years studying medicine, but when it got to the fourth year I could not cope because all I could think about was music, [so] I called my mom [and told her] that it can’t work, [and] that I would switch to a four year course, which was accounting.

So have you graduated?

No, I’m in my final year

CelebritiesGovernment Should Give Davido Money For Doing Good - KSB by entadaplace(op): 11:22pm On Aug 09, 2014
Singer Kenny Saint Brown is displeased with the lack of recognition thriving entertainers, such as Davido have gotten from public office holders.

In a recent chat with EDP, she said she’s not happy about ‘government neglect of the youth’, particularly those in the entertainment industry.

‘For instance, Davido has won Best African act awards at 3 international awards this year and yet no governor or brand has said well-done to him for making Nigeria proud simply because it’s not sports. Imagine the hype and government support for Blessing Okagbare who won Gold at Glasgow, so much that Governor Uduaghan personally went to Glasgow to congratulate her, this is simply because we don’t have a structure to support entertainment.’ KSB, as she’s fondly called, is going into politics next year and says she wants to focus on youth development, among other issues…

CelebritiesWizkid Spends N20m For His 24th Birthday In Maimi, Expect 5 Other Birthday Parti by entadaplace(op): 2:13pm On Jul 22, 2014
‘Wizzy baby loke loke/Seb’Oluwa lo se o/Owo n wole wa/Seb’Oluwa lo se o ah/Lagos today and London tomorrow/Oluwa lo se o/Omo jaiye jaiye/Seb’Oluwa lo se oh ah’ – Wizkid, ‘Jaiye Jaiye’.‎

Wizkid turned 24 years old this year and he was determined to make it the most memorable birthday he’s ever had. In fact, he pretty much tried to make it the most expensive he’s ever going to have. Going by recent activities and forthcoming plans, when the Nigerian Pop star is done celebrating his born day, EDP estimates a total of N20m would have been spent! Already, Wizzy had a birthday party planned for him by Hennessy Nigeria. The all-star gig was held at Escape Nightclub, Victoria Island, Lagos. Insiders tell us, unlike any other night at the club, sales were pitched up for the special occasion. ‘Drinks sold a lot more on the night, there was henny everywhere but the bar cashed out nicely’.

There was also an almost overhaul of the vicinity; the entrance was beautified with a red carpet and a backdrop. An estimate of expenses incurred on the night totals approximately N3m. On July 27, Wizkid says he’ll be taking the party from Lagos to Miami, as he will be riding along the Atlantic Ocean, celebrating with friends on a yacht. The private party holds a day after his upcoming concert in NYC.

‘A lucky Wizkid fan gets to attend my private yacht party on the 27th of July in Miami. i’ll be picking a fan at the NYC Concert on the 26th’, Wizkid announced a week ago. Wizkid will most probably be flying with his StarBoy crew – flight expenses and accommodation for at least three days total about $25,000 (N4,000,000). EDP reached out to a couple of Luxury motor yacht rental services in Miami who all sent in several pricing for one-day bookings. The average price totalled approximately $72,500 (N11,600,000). The service comes with choice drinks, food and security.

Wizkid says he will be having six parties to celebrate his birthday; one down, five more to go..

Celebrities10 Crazy Phobias That You Might Actually Have by entadaplace(op): 9:07am On Jul 10, 2014
Fear of Losing Reception

Nomophobia is the fear of losing cell phone contact. Yes, this is real. In today’s world, some people just can’t stand the idea of not being able to pick up their Blackberry or iPhone and text or call someone – anyone.

Fear of the Color Purple

So, if I secretly painted your bedroom eggplant while you were at work one day, you wouldn’t be very happy about that? The fear of the color purple (I kid you not) is called Porphyrophobia.

Fear of Your Own Reflection

Unless you’re chanting “Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary” into the mirror in a dark bathroom, I’m not sure what’s so bad about looking at your own reflection. But some people, with Spectrophobia, can’t stand to glance at their own face, even in a window. At least that’s a few less people who will be taking pictures of themselves in the mirror and posting them to Facebook.

Fear of Relatives

This one probably makes sense to some people. Syngenesophobia is the fear of relatives. I hope your fear of your in-laws isn’t this intense!

Fear of Magic

Maybe these people watched too much Criss Angel as children. Rhabdophobia is the fear of magic or magic wands (it can also refer to the fear of being beaten with a rod or being harshly criticized). I have a feeling they didn’t read ‘Harry Potter.’

Fear of a Drafty Hallway

Drafts are definitely annoying, but are they scary? Some people find a draft from a window or door, swallowing air and airborne illnesses (ok, I get that one) to be terrifying. These people have a fear called Aerophobia. Fear of air? You better have a tube of caulk and a roll of duct tape handy at all times.

Fear of Mismatched Socks

Ok, so this phobia, called Asymmetriphobia, is really the fear of asymmetry – but mismatched socks are definitely asymmetrical. Don’t let anyone else do your laundry!

Fear of Numbers

These people must hate their birthdays. The fear of numbers or math is called Arithmophobia. Good luck graduating from high school with this one!

CelebritiesMBGN And Other Beauty Pageants Should Be Banned’ – Etcetera by entadaplace(op): 12:12am On Jul 07, 2014
Every year, thousands of girls compete in various beauty pageants across Nigeria. While the organisers may believe that they are helping our girls to feel “beautiful,” they are also in many other ways causing significant damage to the self-esteem and body perception of other girls. The girl who won may feel as beautiful as the prettiest woman ever created, but what about the girls who didn’t win? How do they feel? I spoke with some past contestants of one of the pageants (the girls that didn’t win) and asked them why they think they didn’t win, and this is what some of them said, “Because I wasn’t pretty enough,” “Because the organisers didn’t like me,” “Because it is a racket and who knows what she has offered,” etc. Things like this inspire jealousy, low self-esteem, and other self destructive behaviours such as self isolation, social anxiety, eating disorder, drug abuse, personality disorder, bitterness and social phobia among our girls.
Beauty pageants in Nigeria should be sanctioned. Where do we draw the line between “beauty pageant” and “prostitution?” These pageant organisers and agencies are doing nothing but exploiting our girls in order to make money. The society is becoming so twisted and our sense of right and wrong is becoming so skewed. You gather politicians and paedophiles to watch girls in G-strings and bikinis wriggling their waists all in the name of making a show for TV. Are the contestants always meant to lie about their beliefs and relationship status in order to get a good score? Have we totally lost sight of what is morally right and wrong?
Beauty contests seem pointless to me. To tell a woman to submit to someone else’s definition of beauty is crazy. So when the contest is over and someone wins, does that immediately make them more beautiful than the rest? Are they more beautiful according to a panel of judges? I think it is a sick idea and the money spent organising these beauty contests can be more useful for other causes.
Beauty pageant has been nothing but degrading and harmful to our women and children. It turns our women into objects to be used and played with. It makes the women that don’t make it through feel bad about their looks and even those that do get through feel like they still have to do something more to look prettier. These beauty pageants also set false standards about how beautiful women are supposed to look. So, just because a woman is thin with certain looks, it makes them more beautiful? And women that are thick or big can’t be pretty or beautiful? All they have succeeded in saying is that beauty is only skin deep. Well my friend, it isn’t.
Isn’t it bad enough seeing young Nigerian girls forcing eating disorders on themselves just to be perceived as prettier? ‘I am so fat and it is just not healthy’ has become the chorus of every girl on the street. Parents have become very competitive trying to make their daughters more beautiful than their neighbours’ by forcing their children to make unnecessary adjustments to their bodies to look better than their peers. Now we see six-year-olds having hair extensions, permanent mascara and waxed eyebrows. Do these children really need to be exposed to such things to know that they are beautiful? Do we need our children to think that their looks are judged and if they don’t stand out among their peers, they are not beautiful?
Can a woman ever have a sincere appreciation of her body when the only time she is ever praised for her looks is after hours of preparation with dozens of beauty products? Beauty pageants can only judge what we can see at first glance, and women are so much more than that. The society needs to protect the children from the sick idea of assembling girls in camps and tasking them with over-sexualised dance routines. These beauty pageants can only ingrain into our women that in order to be beautiful, they need to be skinny, which for some body types is incredibly unhealthy. Sincerely, what is the moral behind these beauty pageant shows? How have they helped the society in general? With sports, we can talk about mental discipline, fitness and advance body control. For all the money that beauty pageants cost to organise, is it really worth it? Of all the things you could expose our girls to, are pageants really the best thing out there?
When you teach people that beauty is only on the outside, it can cause major problems, not only health problems but social, physical and mental problems also. If a beautiful girl enters a pageant and doesn’t win, she may begin to consider herself ugly or fat or too skinny. Beauty pageants create a lot of problems that can affect not only the girl but the people she surrounds herself with.
Women have always demanded respect from men. Not only should they demand it, I think they deserve it. But why make them scamper around in G-strings and bikinis showing off their bodies, knowing that men are going to go “gaga” and lick their lips. I don’t want to sound disrespectful, but can you blame the men? Men will always be men. We can’t change our nature, but you know what we can change. We can change the fact that our women are naked and competing to be “the most beautiful in the world.” We shouldn’t endorse beauty contest because it brings money to some people. I believe that there are still a handful of women out there that share the sentiment that beauty contests are wrong and give men the wrong idea of what a “true wife” looks like.
