Agaba, I am a strong Buhari supporter and I disagree with enyojo on this, I have never taken the stuff in my life but I will not condemn anybody that does that, hell, my mother in law insists on the thing whenever she comes around to cater for the kids (odeku). Enyojo, wine is alcoholic, infact the kegites have Jesus Christ as their life fellow because his first miracle was to turn water to wine, let us put down the bible sometimes and use the intellect that God has given us to analyse situations, Alcoholism is a problem in Nigeria but there is nobody looking at it (maybe FRSC sha)
Since when is trying to solve an addiction problem become condemning people?
I hate the sin but i can't hate the Sinner. Period!

Jude 1vs 23 'Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.

Most of them were deceived or pressurized into the highly regrettable habit.
So instead of them to trace the truth and get free for life, they deceive themselves by trying to justify the error.

Don't start.
Was it not the same extremism that made Buhari to show GEJ that he has no constitutional backing to do set up an illegal Probe panel?
Was it Extremism that made Buhari deal with those corrupt Politicians saying 'handcuff or Handshake'?

What of GEJ who out of verbal ejaculati*n claimed that MEND did not detonate a Bomb and that he knew the culprits only for MEND to openly admit it? Yet till now he hasnt named the culprit.
IS THAT NOT EXTREMISM?
What of the highly unpopular misguided statement that 'SOUTHWEST IS IN THE HANDS OF RASCALS'. Was that not Extremism for a sitting president to vomit?
Was that not why about 4 million voters in Lagos alone refused to vote him yet were demoralized by the disunity in the oposition and so remained at home?

Strong drink contains alcohol
Soft drink is Non-alcoholic.
Simple.

Jesus turned water to wine (non-acoholic).
For those who have been to Jerusalem, they will know that their type of wine ferments after being left for long and so becomes alcoholic.
That was why Proverbs 23v31 says: Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it goes down smoothly'

So what are you saying ? It is constutitional to allow Ohakim empty the state treasury ? while we wait for inept Nigerian Judiciary and Law enforcement to catch and prosecute him (if that will ever happen ). Dude I suppose you don't live in Nigeria, so you dont know whats on the ground. Nigeria doesn't practise the democracy you were taught about during your school days, at the moment Nigeria is practising LOOTOCRACY supported by a bogus constitution which protects public office holders from prosecution.

Hope one day we will start practising democracy like we studied during school days and like it is done in US and other advanced democracies. Until then we need proactive Governors like Rochas, and if the bankers do not carry out his directive, those accounts will be moved to another financial institution come May 29th !

Chikena !
We are on the same page on this.
I said for those bankers to obey the Gov-Elect, it means that they know about how Ikedi and his cohort were depleting the treasury before the order came.
I whole-heartedly support the pro-active move by Rochas. Afterall why hasn't the April salaries of workers paid till middle of May??

Why blame Aganga, how about good for nothing CBN governor whose only achievement was to discredit the work of his predecessor , uptill now he has not managed to do anything new in the banking sector he keeps promising that banks will be sold , where as the 9 banks do not loan any money they just keep servicing over heads,

GEJ should bring back those who made the economic index grow during OBJ tenure if he wants to make any economic headway by 2015.
I beg to differ.
The CBN Gov only came to open up the rotten silent dealings going on in the banks. In as much as I agree that the approach used by Lamido especially as it regards travelling the globe washing our dirty linens, I still believe that lamido was the best man for the CBN as at the time he was appointed. had Soludo given another term, Nigeria would have collapsed.

Can you imagine the numerous unforgivable debts owed the banks amounting to Trillions? Yet Soludo told us all that Nigerian banks were very healthy.
Don't get me wrong. Soludo in very intelligent and a Performer. But Lamido is a Reformer. You don't want to put as Performer in an Economic mess like we found ourselves. A Reformer in this context has an IRON-CLAD WILL POWER. He steps on toes and crushes them without apologies.

When things are moving as they should, then you can fix in a Performer. This is a person who is intelligent enough to move the economy from zero to greater heights. But a Reformer moves it from negative axis to zero or positive axis.

As a hindsight, Buhari would have reformed Nigeria before a Performer like fashola takes over in 2015. GEJ has 4 whole years to prove whether he is a Reformer, performer or simply an Informer (Storyteller)

Don't mind him jare.
A glarring mayhem caused by cops (who should protect lives) by shooting sporadically into the 'fresh air' (as someone said).
This deserves a high-level of enquiry.

As for the fights that led to deaths of Corp members, it is highly condemnable and investigated adequately.
However, every Nigerian deserves security of life and property. No death is greater or weightier than the other. Death is death.

pls allow okorocha. What u r saying is what it should be but when u r in a country where looters are governors then u must go the extra mile to catch them. Which of the governors in the past has been imprisoned for looting? The corruption charges against them seems to have been forgotten. Pls keep your due process in waiting until we begin to have credible men in power.
You took the words straight from my mind.
The bankers who are more happier to obey an unseen instruction from A governor-elect rather than do the biddings of a constitutionally-backed Substantive Governor know better. Remember that those bank officials stay in Imo state and they know the looting of the treasury taking place there.
They know better.

This topic reminds me of story told by a friend mine about a man from their village. He the guy went to see a doc concerning his health and was told by doc not eat certain food, the man replied ok, you must not drink alcohol like beer the said ok and the doc said must not drink even ogogoro '' local dry gin'' and the man look at the doc and said no need for your prescription na, and doc why? The man said without ogogoro? Na em bi say i don die be dat na.
Likewise this your story reminds me of Proverbs 31v6 that says: Give strong drink to him that is ready to perish, and wine to those that be of heavy hearts.

@Enyojo,
I was begining to read you with interest, till you came up with the yarn about the man who killed his wife and two kids, then hung himself.
You don't need to fabricate stories to make people see your viewpoint.I know excessive alcohol can be bad for the health.
However i don't believe I am in excess, because I drive normally and I have never had aan acccident in my twelve years of driving a car.
When i drink I don't engage anyone in fistcuffs, infact when I drink I become more careful in what I do.
Thanks for your advise, but no thanks, infact I think I will go out and have a quick bottle before the match between Man Utd and Blackburn.
Peace,Am out!
Do you live in this world? So a case whereby a man under the control of Alcohol murdered his two kids and hung himself seems too huge for you to believe.
Fine. Maybe you won't believe that another man elsewhere who wasn't under any influence killed his only child to get wealth.

If you can believe the second, why have problems with the first?

@Enyojo,
Hi,My name is Richvkunt ,I drink a minimum of three bottles of the ultimate beer every day.
At times on saturdays after a football match especially if my team wins,I go out and systematically get rip roaring drunk.(6-7 bottles)
I live in a well furnished flat, and I pay my rent in advance.
I drive a nice car.I dress well.
Ladies find me attractive, and I do my duty towards them.
On sundays I go to church and do my christian duty.(The only day I don't drink.)

Am I an alcoholic?
Do I need help?
Sorry if I'm abit too froward. You need very urgent help than you can ever imagine.

You know why? I know a man who was exactly doing what you discribed. The man then decided to marry. So to get a decent wife 'who will take good care of my children', he refused to marry those Ladies they meet at joints. So having a measure of control over his habit, he decided to catch break for some time while he becomes more devoted to church activities in the bid to hook a 'serious christian Lady' (according to him).
Having yarns and the swaggs, he got a gullible and vulnerable devoted church girl.

After wedding, he resumed full-fledged drunkeness. Why your stage is dangerous is that, any time you give alcohol a break, on resumption, you may likely start from the Acute phase!

That was what happened to this man. He got so drunk one nyte, came back after midnight. Went into his 2 kids' room and beheaded them. Then hung himself before his wife could know.

That man may not be in heaven today. Evidently.

Tasma:
@enyojo drinking does not necessarily progress in that order. If that was the case everyone that has ever had a drink will end up becoming an alcoholic. There are people that only drink socially all there lifes and others that drink moderately - one or two bottles - all the time. Unfortunately there are also people whose drinking capacity escalates alarmingly.
Everyone must not pass through that order. This is just the commonest order. It can be the other way round. It is not everyone that must pass thru all the phases. But the truth is that Alcohol is an Evil.

bookface:
@Enyojo

I enjoy having drinks with friends in very social settings and many times, I enjoy just getting drunk for the sake of it!. . . .I only do this once in every blue moon and I have been doing this for the past 8 years.
There are months in a row when I don't drink alcohol nor get enticed by the idea of it, as a matter of fact, i just sort of forget about it unless an occasion calls for it.
When the occasion calls for it, i could drink like a fish and to stupor if i wanted to, but afterwards, i'd get back to my normal life and it could take another 9 months before touching another bottle.

what phase of "alcoholism" would you suggest I am?
I'm not an Expert on these things like I admitted. However from your description, you are sandwiched between the Social and the Regular phases. There is still time to get help before its too late. Remember that many people are going to hell for the sake of it.  cry cry

The problem i have with our government is appointing WORLD BANK/IMF SPIES all in the name of hiring Foreign based Nigerian Technocrats.
Olusegun Aganga was loaned to Nigeria from them (So I heard). Ngozi was more diplomatic in her own case. But aganga is so shameless! So many times he has appeared before Senate defending the need to take more loans!!

I found this nice write-up on Vanguard Online Newspaper as a comment by a Reader.:

OPEN LETTER TO PROF. (MADAM) OKONJO IWEALA

Madam Professor, can you kindly tell your successor finance minister Olusegun Aganga that no country have ever borrowed its way into prosperity.Brazil and to an extent Argentina are what they are  today when they stopped the frivolous accumulation of foreign debts to finance dubious "infrastructure projects".It is very very sad that Aganga says he shall keep borrowing until he has reached a debt to GDP ratio of atleast 25%.He obviously does not understand the deep meaning of the word "debt trap".Please tell Mr. Aganga how difficult and near impossible it was to liquidate these foreign debts when you achieved that feat that reverberated around the world.Infact, the creditor nations donot want Nigeria to ever be debt free.If you and your team had not laboured night and day to repay those debts, would Aganga still be talking about reaching the so called debt to GDP ratio of 25% ? Would he not have found alternative ways to finance whatever " infrastructural projects" without borrowing from other countries that have managed their resources well? Some of whom are fellow OPEC countries?
Please ask Mr. Aganga why he needs to borrow so much money when oil prices have remained above $100 dollars/barrel and he has already depleted the external reserve you built to a whopping $62 billion to a mere $32 billion dollars today.Yet,there is no single project in Nigeria to show for the spent $30 billion dollars and all the debts already accumulated so far. What does he need all these unnecessary foreign loans for when he could not convert the $30 billion already withdrawn from the external reserve into concrete economic infrastructure?

Name one country in the world that allowed World Bank / IMF to loan them money and intervene in their economic policy and they came out of the arrangement unscathed.
