Hi
No, airfrance didn't require a covid test.

Welcome home!

oohunt:
I would advice anyone who wants to travel to go for Air France. They have a flight leaving every week, Thursdays. They did not respond to my emails. Not sure why. But they will be more structured. And yes, they demand for covid-19 test.

I soft landed last November too. I will advise you to file your tax. I was able to file as etc
This was really helpful. Will get on this today.

Thanks winterpeg

Winterpeg:
You don't need to file taxes since you didn't earn any income in Canada and you only did soft landing. I had the same issue too in my family and filed taxes and as a result CRA gave us a bill. It was during the cause of settling the issue that the CRA informed us that we were not supposed to file taxes since we were deemed non resident for tax purposes.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate you sharing this.

We are in the same boat. We did soft landing last year October. I made efforts to file the taxes from here using a a consultant, but he said the tax filing can be done once we return.

Hoping the borders will open soon.

Thanks Salford

When you soft landed, I believe you became PRs on that day.
If I were you, I would file my tax aslong as I arrived in the country before the deadline. Alot of access to government or NGO may ask for your most recent tax return document (notice of assessment) when you apply for services.
In addition, if you opened a savings account when you landed and earned any interest on your deposit, the interest would be considered income by CRA; hence, the need to file. Your bank would have sent to you and the CRA, a copy of your T5 (statement of investment income).

Thanks a lot

DualCore1:
If you do not intend to claim any benefits or tax refunds and you're not owing any tax, you do not need to file taxes except CRA asks you to do so. That's why as a PR, when applying for citizenship, it does not ask if you have filed taxes for 3 years in the past 5 years. It asks if you have been required to file taxes.

That being said, it does not cost you anything to file tax returns. So I would rather file taxes and get any gains than wait for CRA to ask me to file it, that's just my own opinion on the matter.

About being a resident for tax purposes. You have a Canadian bank account so you have established economic ties with Canada and MAY be considered a resident for tax purposes.

No need to file taxes except you want to file zero taxes. You are not resident for tax purposes. When you land finally, then you can file taxes.

Good day everyone! Please I need some advice.
My family and I soft landed September last year in Ontario and opened bank accounts. Didn't apply for health insurance or child benefits or anything.
Please I have read and heard conflicting opinions on the need to file tax.
Please I need guidance on this.
Note that we're returning this year.
Thank you very much!

Immigration officers at your point of entry, if asked.

Well, you can, not read here that that was necessary though

emmatrack:
You mean IRCC? Perhaps one should book the bus/train ahead for proof, right?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by epdcan: 12:36am On Jan 26, 2020
Date of first issuance
Provided it was an "original" license in the first place.
All the best

Itzpearlz:
Please does this also apply to license renewal?
If I renew a license obtained some years back but which is now expired, does it start counting from date of renewal (which would be less than 2 years) or from date of initial issuance?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by epdcan: 12:49pm On Jan 25, 2020
Yes you can.
Let them know Quebec is NOT your final destination.
You are good to go.

emmatrack:
Can a PR (pnp nominee) also land in Montreal and then take bus or train to their final destination? Hope it wouldn't raise any issue?
It has been established earlier in the thread that this is permitted.

Fortissimo502:
Landing in Quebec can be a little tricky actually.

LolaJames101:

Hi SunshineD1
I strongly suggest you move your trip back. Travelling a week to delivery is NOT advisable
Please, 32-34 weeks of you cannot help it but preferably on or before 32 weeks.

All the best!

Hi
The "driving license history" is not required to drive in Ontario.
It is a requirement to enable you skip the wait period to take the road test ( G2 or G) immediately after your knowledge test (G1)
You can drive immediately you land with your naija license, once you write your G1, the letter is needed (if you have at least 2 years driving experience in naija) to enable you book a road test as soon as a date is available.
Hope this helps
MumofTwins2017:
Please is it true that driving license history is not needed to drive in Ontario?

@Etrange, I also eavesdropped.
Pr cards take an average of 12-16days now.
How long are you planning to stay?
I think you should risk it.
Cheers
etrange:
Sir,

Sorry I eavesdropped, I heard you say you landed earlier this year. Please, did you stay till you got your card? If not, how did you return to Canada? Did you get a PRTD did someone help you bring it to Nigeria or did you use a courier service?

I can't stay till PR comes and I need to know my options.

Warm Regards.

Its COPR!
#teamsilentreaders

So, sometime in 2017 a friend of mine mentioned Express Entry to me. For some weird reason, relocation was never a topic in my home. I told her all these travelling matters are always a long thing. (Some canadian lawyer had quoted one ridiculous amount years before when I just enquired for fun as it popped up on my Facebook timeline so I don free my mind)
She said it was super easy and said just write ielts first..."you will pass, it is just english" she said.
I did not research further and just went ahead to register the boo and I.
IELTS- Result came out LRWS 8.5, 8.5, 8, 7.5

ECA- She said "do WES" Meanwhile a colleague of mine had just "tissued" (left the country for...wait for it .....canada!) Realised lots of people had left, I apparently had my nose in the sand all the while.
Anyway, NASU strike delayed WES for months but eventually they came through.
Went back to friend and asked "So what next?"
She said to create profile...I did with the help of another beautiful colleague of mine. CRS 451, few days later, friend called congratulating me...I was confused!
Said there was a draw at 444 (ITA JUNE 25, 2018-did not even know to monitor for a draw)
I was excited but not fully because POF for my family of 4 was not ready.
Needed a couple more months for pof to be complete. (Just assumed I needed 10m, not sure where that thought came from)

Friend said to do a gift deed, decided not to bother.

Read somewhere application was now 60 days and not 90days any longer. Prayed earnestly for a miracle and when 60days was drawing close, decided to decline the invitation. Logged in to decline and saw that I had over 30days to submit, apparently the change to 60days was made a day after my ITA.
I was super excited!
Did all the doables
Medicals- qlife (had booked earlier) and somewhere in the middle east for bae (this was expensive mehn, flight and all...Lagos people we are enjoying)
Pcc- used Mr Abass- got his contact on the whatsapp group my dear colleague had added me to. 8k for both of us

POF- treasury bills, mutual funds, savings account, some small investment savings/products + pension funds. Over Pof was now "worrying me" (I had forgotten all these investments when I was worrying...smh)- these matured and were rolled over without informing IRCC

Friend mentioned a nairaland group, visited briefly and could not make out a lot of things and decided to take a step back (funny as I love to read, just could not deal on that day)

Work reference letter- typed and gave HR and was signed and stamped. It was a bit blurry as I was sort of self employed but had the HR of the company we were created under (long story) sign the letter.

AOR- 16th September

Submitted then came back to read this group.
There and then, some errors I had made started surfacing.
Raised a CSE shortly after for a trip I had omitted on an old passport

Raised another when I felt I had chosen a wrong NOC for spouse

Was so paranoid.

Learnt we were to upload fingerprint pages we did during PCC applications, I only uploaded the certificate

Learnt not declaring side hustle could be seen as misrepresentation, etcetera.
Hey! It was not funny.
Eventually decided to keep the prayers up and leave God to do His thing.

MEP/BIL came on 11th October
RPRF request was seen 27th October. Paid the next day.
Was so sure I was close...IRCC had other plans.
I had decided I won't ask for my VO, request GCMS notes or anything.
Just wait patiently for PPR.
Hmm...
My mind no gree me.
Kept thinking about the last amount paid into my account and how I didn't explain it.
How I did not show the source of the 'monies' for tbills and all.
How google will expose me and my not-so-side business
I now got "How to get a job in Canada" mail, figured I had been moved to London VO as was assumed here in those days.

Anyway, joined an absolutely amazing WhatsApp group....the best ever! (I was in one that had people of different nationalities but the pressure here was too much....permutations, assumptions, questions, once I saw a link here, I joined and left the other Choose Peace!) Created for October AOR but they accepted September somebody like me and group was renamed

When I hit 5months post aor, decided to call CIC, agent was nice, told me eligibility was met but Criminality and Security not started. Told me to only call back if by end of May I did not get my Ppr (shuoo?! End of May kwa?) I thanked him and decided to wait till the 6-month mark. Oh, found out Visa office was Ottawa too.

6 months came and went unceremoniously. My amazing friends in my group were so sweet and encouraging.
The Lord told me not to worry. Held on to that and decided not to call or mail Ralph or anything...till 7/8months.
I was in IP2 from aor and had gone back to IP1 after biometrics/rprf (not sure now)
So I was waiting for IP2 mail. I wasn't checking my profile too regularly either.

4th of April, needed to check the time when I woke up and saw the email icon on my screen, swiped down to check time and saw "Ready for Visa" mail...to be honest I was NOT expecting it.
Also noticed background check was now in progress.
Mail came in again next day (wish I could give one out)

AOR-PPR- 6 months and 20days!

Submitted 8th and Copr received 30th
It has ended in praise
(This was the abridged version)
I want to give ALL the glory to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit!
I pray we all share testimonies soon especially EVERYONE in my Sept/October AOR group.

P.S. please read and read. Gulped down so much from here and the sister thread.
Try not to be scared...let people's stories of their challenges drive you to do all you can and not into fear.
God will come through for us all.
Thank you everyone helping out here- God bless you!
